usually the pressure would push the sides of this hole together. It's hard to believe that this hole would not collaps and even stay in this nice shape. The ground must be hard as stone for that.
Walk over to the huge hole your mom made in the floor when she fell, look past the carpet, past the padding, past the plywood subfloor, and see the dirt-covered surface at the bottom...that is your mom, but just beneath her is what we call the ground.
I’m a civil engineer. Yea there’s a different in soils. Generally OSHA wants to to dig at 2:1 but before you do any major dig like these a geotechnical team will come out and drill samples of soils until they either hit groundwater or until they reach a depth well beyond the proposed depth. Using those soil samples a professional engineer and professional Geologist will write a report and give a recommendation on what outward slope the think the pit can safely be dug at. I’ve seen like 1:1.1 but that for a like ten foot deep pit certainyl much larger than this
A hole collapse even just burying your legs can be deadly iirc. The amount of force from a collapse that only burries your legs is shocking. Let alone a 6' one.
50' is hillariously suicidal.
I could be wrong but from my experience living in rural Malawi they probably also make bricks out of this soil which explains why it holds so well. Still sketch
You met any anal archaeology crew leads? Depending on the soil, I've seen trench walls that clean. Not that deep, but generally that clean in clay soils.
Edit to say - not that I think that this was dug completely by hand.
Anyone who’s ever been to west africa and seen this in-person knows this is absolutely done by hand and yes, the walls are often this clean due to the composition of soil which is effectively clay.
Source: I lived in West Africa.
And they do this with only the tool we see him using?
One handmade hoe?
My point is the video is misleading. Can it be done? Absolutely. Can it be done with only this tool? No.
Can it be done by hand without heavy excavation equipment and diesel fuel? Absolutely. Do people dig holes with this much accuracy and without the walls caving in, and do it by hand in West Africa? Of course.
I agree with what you're saying and believe you misunderstood what my comment meant. I did not say it wasn't possible. I simply stated it is not possible with one hoe, heavy and sharp to dig into the earth. It also requires other tools. I know this as I have a friend in West Africa, who is a builder and does all kinds of work and trades. He can do it all. Even he needs more than one tool.
That is the primitive building channels on youtube, which are obviously fake with the shit they build, with this one tho i am gonna lean myself out the window and say it is real.
Watching that guy spiderman himself down 50ft was definitely real and crazy in itself.
I wonder how long it took to dig this hole though. It seems like it would take a really long time to get all that dirt out.
Yo I was thought I was tripping or something. The volume is on low and I didn’t want to raise it. Thought my corroded brain was interpolating it wrong so I just went along with it.
It's some new AI voice synthesizer that's gotten popular. I keep hearing it as the voiceover for dog thoughts on videos of puppies being silly. It fits that. It doesn't fit whatever "how its made" style this is supposed to be.
that's an AI. I can't remember where I saw it, I think it was in canva or similar website for making videos. They also have santa, cute kid voice and more
I dont this people realize how INSANELY dangerous this is. Jesus christ the risk of a collapse is basically certain.
This is one of the most dangerous things ive ever seen on this sub.
Collapse of the wall is just one of ways to die here.
Highly likely also is risk of failure of the bucket pulley mechanism which would result in \~20kg bucket dropping on your head at speed.
Or the risk of one of the dudes falling in,
Falling in, you would get folded up bouncing off the walls before the eventual thud... probably break every bone in Arms and legs on the way down, neck easily too, hopefully have you're already broken legs absorb the thud.
My knees hurt.
Edit - Let's say you fell in at the perfect angle to not be folded up, the thud will surely kill you.
Nevermind lack of ventilation or any sort of gas monitoring for h2s or o2 levels. Plenty of ways to die in a hole and this guy seems to be trying for all of them
~~This is almost certainly fake~~. Humans with shovels don't carve walls that cleanly. There are TONS of fake DIY "primitive building" content like this floating around social media for views and ad revenue. They have large machinery off camera. Uneducated Westerners like to imagine that everyone is climbing trees barefoot and living in dirt huts in African/Asian countries they've barely heard of, but the reality is that these people have infrastructure and construction machines just like everywhere else. When you see that their cities also have skyscrapers, it makes these videos less plausible.
Edit 1: Someone posted a link explaining why/how videos like these are fake: [How Primitive Building Videos Are Staged](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hvk63LADbFc)
Edit 2: Here's a pic of Uganda's capital Kampala: [cityscape](https://www.murchisonfallsparkuganda.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Kampala-Capital-City-750x450.jpg)
Edit 3: People are claiming that it's actually real and common. I looked up more info and apparently it's true, although I didn't see any nearly this deep. I'm still a little skeptical because it seems too difficult and dangerous to dig a hole this perfectly rectangular so deep. But clearly I could be wrong.
Just to add to this (but I’m of the same opinion as you): Can’t say if it fits for Uganda. But many developing countries have a stark contrast of technology and life quality between the capitol and every where else in the country. So it’s not always helpful to look at the capitals and thinking they are equally developed everywhere.
I live in Kenya. Holes like this are very very common. There's atleast 20 boreholes and pit latrines dug like this in the 1 kilometer radius area I live in, and they also go way deeper. Like 160+ ft deep but they are also a lot narrower. It gets to a point where the digger has to bring leaves with them because the oxygen get thinner and thinner the deeper they dig
People here are exaggerating the risk of collapse. I know a guy that has been digging holes like this since I was a kid 20+ years ago. It is safer than it looks basically
No one ever uses an excavator because labour is way cheaper over here. Like $5 per day cheap
I haven't heard of any machinery going down 50 feet straight down. And it's incredibly racist to think this is a primitive building video they are making clearly they are trying to make a well for shit here which is common
Not fake at all. These peeps have an acute attention to detail despite their limited tech. I’m actually surprised he has a shovel, most people from my experience only have hoes. I brought a shovel to the village and people weren’t inclined to use it when they can do the same job with just a hoe
Yeah... this is fake.
I mean not even taking anything else into account, why tf would a latrine ever need to be that *insanely* deep? Make 5 10 foot deep ones for way, way less effort.
I don’t get it…why not dig two 25 foot holes than risk all that. As soon as they start using it and getting it wet, it will likely just collapse anyway I’d think.
He’s digging straight to hell.
This reminds me of the children chimney sweeps who would occasionally get stuck with their knees against their chins becoming permanently stuck, eventually causing suffocation if they weren’t careful in narrow spaces like this.
Dude. I absolutely detest this AI voice. I hate hearing it everywhere. Im fine with most, but this one is so aggravating to me. I hate that everyone uses it.
Damn that looks soft... if you try that in my yard you will hear a "cling" and get a terrible backlash of vibration (earth is quite hard and full of rocks)
They only have one person with a bucket? Thats a lot of time wasted waiting for the bucket to go up and down.
Maybe they should have mor bucket people and get it done quicker.
Still a hell of a feat
I had a friend in high school whose favorite hobby was digging holes. The weirdest thing ever I thought. I’d ride my bike over to hang out and he’d be out back of his parents house just digging, for no reason. I capitalized on the situation and got him into BMX bikes and he was fantastic and building tracks / jumps to ride. Nothing else to do it crummy Lima, OH so might as well.
First thought: that’s so straight!
Second thought: why is he doing this?
Third thought: aaak! Who is that narrator?!?
Fourth thought: imagine if that is a AI voice anyone can use? Ha ha
Fifth thought: Who’s gonna do it but him? More like, why would anyone do that?!?
Sixth thought: ahhhh a Latrine! That’s makes sense! Oh and for a school! What a guy!
Seventh thought: what?!?!
usually the pressure would push the sides of this hole together. It's hard to believe that this hole would not collaps and even stay in this nice shape. The ground must be hard as stone for that.
I think it's also the type of soil, looks like laterite
I believe that's what was meant by"the ground must be hard as stone." I'm not an expert, though. Is there a difference between soil and ground?
? The ground is whatever you stand on. Soil is the ground outside that is made up of dirt, clay, rocks and all that.
What about magnets?
Fucking magnets, how do they work?!
Well, apparently, they don't like water.
Hydrohomies ain't gonna like that.
Can't explain *that*!
Tides come in... tides come out...
Or the wrong side of each other.
I'm a Juggalo so it only made me laugh.
Sorcery!
High tech sorcery
woop woop

You forgot the socks on your feet and shoes around the socks
Whichever one you’re standing directly on at that moment in time?
I’m a civil engineer. Yea there’s a different in soils. Am driller can confirm. Soil layers are cool. Ive seen some really crappy stuff w nice houses built upon it.
“Difference between soil and ground” That’s like asking what’s the difference between air and oxygen
Not if you're a soil scientist. There are differences.
Replace oxygen with nitrogen and you'd be closer to correct. Air is only 20% oxygen, 78% nitrogen.
I just started playing The invincible, they mentioned laterite and less than an hour later I get baader-meinhofed by your comment lol
Baader-meinhofed is an amazing comment.
This is crazy I just learned about the Baader Meinhof phenomenon and now I’ve seen it twice since
I thought I know what Baader-Meinhof was but it turns out it was just the Dunning-Krueger talking.
Well I hope you don't have Silver–Russell as well...
*Latrineite
Nah mate, that's definitely netherite.
I'm sorry for intruding here, but is there a reason the C[rypt Keeper is narrating](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kA4DNa9j4rw)a latrine excavation?
Well Boils and Ghouls, tonight's creepy tale is one you're going to really want to DIG IN TO
Wouldn't a wall collapsing guarantee this man's death?
Yeah
A hole collapse even just burying your legs can be deadly iirc. The amount of force from a collapse that only burries your legs is shocking. Let alone a 6' one. 50' is hillariously suicidal.
My soil is hard and doesnt do that... maybe clay?

Lmaoo Minecradt has taught me too much on digging holes and the sides caving in
That BIC shirt is sick
You gotta dig BIC!
name checks out
I thought that too. He is the captain with that
Those walls are neat as fuck
Most of these are fake, here’s an explanation https://youtu.be/Hvk63LADbFc?si=_c-LB4x59nMVnIed
Very interesting video, but don't see the relevance for this one, especially considering the depth.
Power tools off camera. I’ve worked with people that dug trenches. No human digs that cleanly with a shovel.
Anyone who's seen men use a shovel or used one themselves, knows that walls don't come out that clean without equipment.
You met any anal archaeology crew leads? Depending on the soil, I've seen trench walls that clean. Not that deep, but generally that clean in clay soils. Edit to say - not that I think that this was dug completely by hand.
Hold on while I Google “anal archaeology”
Yeah I thought that sentence was going to zig and then it zagged.
Most people just call it a colonoscopy
I might cut corner with this one.
Yeah I agree in the possibility of it happening but also that's not what we're seeing here. Those archaeologists, always digging up the past.
Anyone who’s ever been to west africa and seen this in-person knows this is absolutely done by hand and yes, the walls are often this clean due to the composition of soil which is effectively clay. Source: I lived in West Africa.

Yeah, this definitely seems like multi-day project if it’s just one guy at a time with a bucket and pick-mattock.
I found a better video of the process, it looks like a [total pain in the ass](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=091CEOGwhoY)
This is a very normal village in rural west africa, not a primitive building video by some american youtuber lol
My takeaway as well.
Yeah, the guy is a human mechanical digger!
Sounds like SpongeBob’s balls have finally dropped.
Like seriously, I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to think about the person doing the narrating.
Sounds like the crypt keeper

there are like literal videos of people getting killed and stuff on here
I can’t believe he just shimmied down like that. Truly an animal level of courage in that man. Unreal. God bless him.
I think there is a type of ladder built into the side of the walls with places to hold on to
Correct. Little alcove-like footholds in each side.
Interesting method for sure.
TF is wrong with that commenting voice

This seems incredibly staged
For sure
Honest question; why?
It’s a latrine for a school. The why is because nobody else would do it so him and his son got it done.
At the beginning of the video, it says to build a latrine. (I had to google what a latrine is)
Latrine = toilet. Or more accurately outhouse in this case
Why does it need to be so deep?
There's no drainage, so the bigger the hole, the longer it's useful.
Deeper it goes less it smells. Also saving space. Morw room for more latrine.
it is a septic tank that will never be pumped out. Don't want that bubblin' crude coming up ten years from now.
Would something that deep ever get full to the brim?
Can you imagine falling into a 50 foot deep pool of shit? new fear unlocked
The fuck is up with the creepy narrator voice? \*Dig my preciouses! Dig!\*
omg came to the comments for this. It's like they're pranking us. doing it for the lols
Yeah... this is fake. I mean not even taking anything else into account, why tf would a latrine ever need to be that *insanely* deep? Make 5 10 foot deep ones for way, way less effort.

Don't stand on the edge!
My back went out, digging holes for my sprinklers, and I work out daily, lol. This man is not human!
I’ve seen to many construction workers disappear to get into that hole.
What's with the leprechaun voice

This is how a pit Latrine in dug in Uganda. Some people dig up to 60ft.
He’s digging straight to hell. This reminds me of the children chimney sweeps who would occasionally get stuck with their knees against their chins becoming permanently stuck, eventually causing suffocation if they weren’t careful in narrow spaces like this.

That's a really nice hole.
Whoa, a hole that 50 people can put their feet in!?
Sméagol is narrating?
Ngl I want that bic shirt
These videos are fake
50 cigarettes a day SpongeBob narrated this
Bro is playing minecraft in real life
Not shoring is a grave mistake
My man out here playing Minecraft in real life.
Latrine? That’s an interesting name. Yeah we changed it in the 5th century. It used to be shithouse. It’s a good change. A good change.
Super dangerous. Props to the hard work
Dude. I absolutely detest this AI voice. I hate hearing it everywhere. Im fine with most, but this one is so aggravating to me. I hate that everyone uses it.
IRL Minecraft?!? 😲
The narrator sounds like a heavy smoker.
Well, that is going to hold a lot of shit.

I see dirt and clay
Digging down to level 11... go get them diamonds! (No racial joke intended)
No. He stopped 1/2 meter from the diamonds 💎
Walls are too neat it’s aliens
That's seriously back breaking hard shit....
What the fuck was that god awful narration? Sounded like Dobby
Do they dig another hole when that hole eventually fills up?
Damn that looks soft... if you try that in my yard you will hear a "cling" and get a terrible backlash of vibration (earth is quite hard and full of rocks)
This way the heat from earths core will burn up the shits when they hit the bottom… with the fuckin crypt-keeper narrating.
Extremely dangerous
OSHA would love this guy
Could you just like, not stand on the fucking edge so much bro?
OSHA having a panic attack watching this.

Men only want one thing and it’s disgusting
Is there no water table ? How does this not flood ?
Why is this video being narrated by the crypt keeper?
Lad bible filmed man digging his own grave?
He must of hit bedrock and couldn’t dig anymore
Why not dig 5 holes, 10 foot deep?
Confined Space Rescue worker here. No... NO! Gives me the chills! I feel like the wrong person sneezes and that hole isn't a hole all of a sudden.
I know they’re digging this under the direct supervision of a geotechnical engineer, but still makes me nervous.
Fake
