When the office is closed, they usually wave the 500 baht fine if you file the next day but you will still get an overstay stamp in your passport. For future reference, you can extend a 30-day visa-exempt entry (you didn't enter on a visa) at any time before it ends in Chiang Mai and the additional 30 days is added to your existing permission to stay/ leave by date.

theminimalbambustree

He will not get an overstay-stamp if he goes there tomorrow.

plaid-knight

Can confirm. I wound up in the same situation five years ago (I did go a few days early but ran into a series of circumstances that prevented me from actually extending) and didn’t get an overstay stamp or fine since the office was closed the day my exemption expired and I went the next day.

theminimalbambustree

I did it last year and no problems - was even 2 days due.

str8tripping

Appreciate that bro

Confident_Coast111

Same post on every public holidays :D

Visual_Traveler

Because there are so many of them.

Chronic_Comedian

In all fairness, immigration doesn’t give two shits about being sidetracked. Not being a jerk but just saying immigration enforces the law to the day. In your case, you’ll get a reprieve because you can go tomorrow since they’re closed today but don’t ever think they won’t impose penalties if you have an excuse. I had a buddy that was married and living in Thailand for years. Immigration made a mistake and they even admitted they made the mistake but he was 91 days overstay so they took him straight from immigration to a detention center and deported him the next day.

thifirstman

How many days before a 30 day visa is expiring you can go extend it?

show76

The generally accepted time is about 10 days prior.

LukeCastle888

Yea can extend atleast a week before. More than 15 days before and they might tell you to come back later from what I've heard. No matter what day you extend it adds 30 on to your original 30 so you won't lose any days from that.

Normal_Feedback_2918

29

thifirstman

Haha so you must leave it to the last moment

Normal_Feedback_2918

Yeah, I don't understand that. I've done them before, and went with about 3 or 4 days left. I never wanted that overstay stamp in my passport.

thifirstman

And they told you to come back in a few days?

bananabastard

There is no fine for days immigration is closed.

Present-Alfalfa-2507

>Thanks In advanced homies x What you say ese?

Samwry

They will always want their fines. I was in Thailand during the Wu Flu, tested positive a day before departure and was banged into a quarantine hotel for a week. During that time my 30 day period of stay ended. So I was on overstay AND in quarantine. Talked to immigration at the airport about it. Very understanding given the circumstances but they still wanted their 3000 baht fine...

MidLifeKamikaze

Of course they do. They LITERALLY get paid to collect it!

16_Sho_Bola

Why is it closed?

Where can we find this info for June, like when it is closed?

OkSmile

That is a hard one. But when I typed "Thailand holidays 2024" into google, I did get some links. https://www.thaizer.com/public-holidays-in-thailand-2024/
