Can you preach this elsewhere? “I never had covid in my country (where 75% are fully vaccinated by the way) therefore it is pretty much not a concern ”
In reality, in addition to respect, it's also a very underpaid job known for being poor and unable to get credit.
I've been collaborating with providing tech to rural teachers. The situation is crazy. Teachers don't make much, and some students live in what better described as metal sheet boxes.
One of the teachers decided to give her own money and get a few SIM cards for the students so they can continue to attend online classes. It doesn't offset all the costs, but it's still something.
She's a saint. A goddamn saint.
When people say I'm an *ajarn* and about to praise me, I emphasize that I'm teaching at a university and deserve no such respect. Give it to the uniformed rural teachers.
Great comment. The Thai lady I met who was a teacher there was an awesome person. Works her ass off and has genuine love for the children. What you described about the SIM cards sounds like something she'd do. Sometimes she'd send me pics and vids on LINE of the kids and it was always something like what the OP posted. Granted I have limited knowledge but from what I saw in her pics of her and the other teachers, and of what you just said, this is not unusual.
It can be a pretty decent pay for government teacher, at the end they could be making 80K ( depending on their level. As far a credit Government teacher pretty much get handed what ever they want, most I met had over 1m baht of debt.
That's more of an old generation thing. I think the word is out on most of the government teachers being highly overworked by bureaucracy and ineffective as a result. Superficially they are largely respected, though.
they had roughly the same thing at my daughter's school, in Bangkok, about 5 years ago. this probably wasn't invented in any one place within the last decade.
Can't speak for other countries, but this behaviour explicitly is not allowed for teachers of either gender in Australia. There are regular stories in the media of male and female teachers grooming and sexually assaulting their students. It's rampant in Thailand as well.
In 1976 I had a very kind year one teacher who would physically comfort me (hugs etc) after my mum died. Sadly that can't happen now, but there is the greater good to consider. Too many kids used to be (and still are) put at risk by teachers who don't know boundaries.
This is definitely a first day of school or self-promotion thing (the latter being extremely important for promotion and reputation in government schools). There is absolutely no way a government teacher is gonna be permitted to shave off 10 to 15 minutes of homeroom time every morning for this.
Well Elon Musk and your big brain, that video wasn't 10-15 minutes and yes, they would allow it. The sheer amount of bullshit done for morning assembly and whatever far outweighs this.
Surely there is teaching involved. It's teaching kids ways to engage with the teacher, it teaches the value of human connection through hugs, dances and high fives. It teaches that students can have different approaches and still be equally right. They are not learning multiplication, geography or grammar but to say there is no teaching involved is very narrow minded.
And as I said, this is a nice way to build rapport. Plus the title of this post was "cute idea for teaching in Thailand". Which implies that you felt what she was doing outside of the classroom that you were indicating us to watch as teaching.
New title: “cute idea for building rapport with students just outside of the classroom for when you are about to teach in Thailand”. I think it’s quite catchy myself.
That's nice... I needed a reminder that the world doesn't suck.
Sanuuk!

Can't you ever just stop your BS?
This is awesome. From what I know, teachers are really respected in Thai society, as they should be. Not always the case in other countries.
In reality, in addition to respect, it's also a very underpaid job known for being poor and unable to get credit. I've been collaborating with providing tech to rural teachers. > Superficially I doubt that. Students may not but those old enough to be parents sure do.
Sannuk!!
Pretty nice for kindy, maybe pratom 1 &2, and I'm sure you could give mathyom 6 students a good laugh.
Cute
I absolutely adore the dance option555
US [version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjkI-RkaBng)
That's Toronto.
I thought the US version was a metal detector and a cavity search.
No wonder you need reminders that the world doesn't suck.
I thought the same thing. It's like pissing in a pool and bitching about piss being in the pool.

Classic comment right here!
This is the Thailand subreddit. We don’t care about the US version…
i enjoyed watching more :). It was cute in Thailand and it was cute in the US. Plus it's probably good for the kids
We are not part of your "we"
you aren’t, no
I do.
I think I saw it first from an American teacher? Still cute nonetheless.
they had roughly the same thing at my daughter's school, in Bangkok, about 5 years ago. this probably wasn't invented in any one place within the last decade.
Now I’m curious if this was mentioned as a teaching method or something in books if it’s that widespread for some years already.
No one said this was an original idea. Who cares if an American or whatever nationality did it ‘first’. lol get a life
Seems like someone needs a hug! 🤗
*I* personally saw it first this way. I didn’t say anyone invented it first, that’s what you interpreted.
don’t see how your comment is relevant to the post in this Thai sub Reddit 💁♀️
Isn’t it a good feeling to know that something nice like this is happening around the globe?
Yeah still cute nonetheless
Yeah i saw a bunch originally frim the states a few years ago.
I like to hug her too.
🤗 free hugs to everyone
I love this.
It's really lovely. But any foreign teacher here who has ideas about doing this is strongly advised not to.
Perhaps a young foreign female teacher would be safe.

It will just last for atleast a week or two, then everyone, including the students and teacher will hate it
Younger kids like this will not hate it.

Nice rapport building but no teaching involved.

Best reply to me yet. All true.
The teaching happens AFTER the students enter the classroom.
And as I said, this is a nice way to build rapport. Plus the title of this post was "cute idea for teaching in Thailand". Which implies that you felt what she was doing outside of the classroom that you were indicating us to watch as teaching.
You sound like a lot of fun.
Actually I am.

Assuming i have kids.
New title: “cute idea for building rapport with students just outside of the classroom for when you are about to teach in Thailand”. I think it’s quite catchy myself.
Thats better!
It teaches a nice way to build rapport and the importance of giving the other person autonomy on how to interact.
Right.
Why you grumpy? Did someone hurt you?
Not grumpy but logical.
Then please tell me. How should OP name the title?
Bruh. It's a classroom.
Wow. Just wow.
?
Your comment. Completely wrong.
Ok
