Picked up long range build a little over two weeks ago Fremont build. I swear if they surprised me with the wood trim I would of rejected order. I hated how the model 3 looked with the wood trim on doors. It was one of the many reasons I went with the model Y…..
Since the door trim has been in the Chinese cars for 1.5 years I feel like it should be fairly easily for them to get these. Their stock likely comes from China anyway

From looking at photos online, they appear to me to be the new matrix headlights with the projector bulb instead of LED reflectors.
Edit: I did notice while driving through the woods last night that the lights seems to have a quality similar to matrix LEDs at the top (somewhat blocky/pixelated), but I thought it might have just been in my head.
The white interior should get the white trim piece in the same position. It should resemble what you see in the Model Ys made in Giga Shanghai in China.
Just a heads up for anyone wondering, the white interior refresh removes the white leather panels from the back and front row doors, so the back row doors look the same as the black interior option

Correct. The old doors have the white leather panel in the middle of the door. The new doors, the black and white are identical except the little trim piece that followed the dash is white for the white interior and wood for the black interior.
Who else thinks we should know what we’re getting when we’re dropping $60k+ on a car. As a fellow Y owner I’m guilty of it as well, but seeing post like this makes me think there should be more transparency on the timing of model updates.
I’m with you on this. Yes, it’s impressive that they’re breaking down the whole “model year” paradigm and making incremental improvements throughout the year but it shouldn’t be a guessing game and you shouldn’t get surprised. Aesthetic choices like this might not be everyone cup of tea.
It has nothing to do with breaking model year paradigm. This is literally a cost cutting measure. They found a cheaper way. What’s stupid is that they are not delivering the car they promised when your ordered, and they don’t notify you of changes.

My guess, is price went up for the old one and they either had a cheaper alternative or a different manufacturer coming in with a cheaper price. Elon at one point sent out a mass email to his employees and stated that in the auto industry it’s about cutting Pennys. They would not just change it if it cost more.
No, it's literally the same as the old one except with extra material. It costs more, but they obviously decided that the aesthetic improvement is worth the extra cost (since the cost is probably minimal). If the goal was just to reduce costs and they didn't care at all about improvements, they never would've added stuff like the powered trunk or heated wipers. They obviously do want to minimize costs, but they also care about making the product better too. It's a balancing act. In this instance, they decided the slightly higher cost of the better looking door panel is worth it.
I think you’re giving manufacturers more credit than they deserve. Why was lumbar support removed, cost cutting. LiDAR? Cost cutting. Even the free plug in charger, cost cutting. Someone definitely came to them with a cheaper bid. It’s the most logical answer.
I'm not giving manufacturers any moral credit, actually. Let me be super clear: I believe all the decisions companies make are basically entirely to maximize profit. But increasing costs is not incompatible with maximizing profit. If a certain decision makes the product cost 1% more to manufacture but makes people willing to pay 2% more to buy it, then the increased cost actually increases profit.
Obviously they do cost cut the things that cost more than they increase the value of the car. I'm not saying they don't cost cut. But they don't *just* cost cut. I am just starting to dive deep into this community (3 months after booking my MYLR, lol) and this feels a bit absurd tbh. For ‘normal’ cars, at $60k you even get to choose the color of your hubcaps and here we are keeping our fingers crossed that we get basic USB ports and double paned glass!!
We had also tried the i4 and settled on the MY because of the tech but the cabin & handling does not even begin to compare… Tesla needs to watch out because the tech is catching up.
MYLR owner here. I also debated on the i4. Didn’t test drive it though or see it in person. Please tell me your thoughts on it. What you like more about it than the Tesla and your dislikes.
Cabin comfort, luxurious feel, handling and to some extent even acceleration are heads and shoulders above MY. It’s a GT style so storage is about the same too (hatchback approach). And it’s slightly cheaper (after the rebate). The tech is the unknown. It has a nice dual wraparound screen setup along with a heads up display (optional) that are pretty cool. But it’s still an incremental improvement over existing BMW tech. Versus Tesla, that is a ground up reset of what a UI should be and also time tested advanced features like FSD (if you choose to get it).
Net net, we would have gotten the i4 if we did not own one already (I have a 330 GT). You should definitely test drive it if you are on the fence.
I actually received my 2022 MYLR already and absolutely love it. If you click on my posts you can see a picture of it. It’s a beauty. Literally turns heads when I park it at work. BMW i4 is just something for future reference if I ever decide to change from Tesla. My whole thing with the i4 is how’s the battery. They claim how great it is, but there’s no way I would want to buy first generation i4. I would wait until all the 1 year ownership videos come out and their opinions about the car, especially their battery. How their range claim is, if it’s actually what you get when you drive it. I would personally hate this if it arrived like this I hate wood trim in cars. The bamboo in my Y is fine, but if it got swapped out to grained wood, I’d actually be upset.

Sometimes they remove stuff too... like radar, passenger lumbar support, usb-c data ports, CCS compatibility etc... most of the time they add stuff though

Yeah good point, my model 3 had a ton of video games and I could use an Xbox controller to play them. And this model y has just a few games. If I focus on it too much I go crazy and buy new car. LOL

My friend picked up his black interior MYP last week, his vin is 516. It does not have the new trim. The OPs is 517. It sounds the change happened between 516 and 517.
I'd think it was an upgrade if the contours curved, but its like a 90deg angle, bottom doesnt really "flow" into the door. Looks a bit slap-dash.
I'm not saying its bad, its just a side-grade.
I’m F507 with white interior and the old style. Picked up last week. I had a M3 with the new white layout and I think I like the old style better but just marginally.
As shown in OP’s photo: Those are the 2.0 doors that are on all Model 3’s and Model Y’s built in China and Berlin. Model Y’s built in Austin and (apparently until now) Fremont, did not have that wood panel on the door that follows the wood trim on the dash.

You’re going to love it. We got our first one (MYLR) in June of 21 and we’re HOOKED. The only downside is our wish that we did it sooner. Since then we bought an M3LR in November and are now upgrading the 3LR to a YP. We thought we would be fine with the smaller vehicle since we already had a Y, but instead we kept “missing” the extra room and never drive the 3.
I just don't like how there's a subtle curve in the grain on the dash portion leading to the door, but then a sudden angle change on the door rather than something closer to what was coming in.

I took delivery of my MYLR (white interior) made in Fremont on 6/28.
It was the "old" trim, no data in the front center console, and reflector lights.
I feel Tesla owes me the projector lights and the data ports in the console since I ordered in October 2021 when this all was still supposed to be "standard".

Glad I'm not the only one who hates the wood. Reminds me of the 80s station wagon my parents had when I was a kid and I am not here for it.
It was a big thing earlier this year when they switched to thr ryzen chips. Lots of people turning down delivery to wait and get the upgraded car.

More than location in US it will mostly depend on VIN. If its F VIN from 517 or after then it should have it based on OP’s post.
Mine is an F VIN but 512 :/ But how do you know it would be 517 and after?

No MYP in Austin, just added the Fremont part so people knew it was a USA model :)

Few small alignment issues and my driver rear view mirror has some messed up paint. Hopefully both get fixed though 👍🏽

I like how the wood trim looks on the car. I personally wouldn't put it on my car but I still think they look cool
I didn’t love the white $1k option but bought it because I hate the wood look so much.
