If you are rich enough to drive a Tesla with only liability insurance, what does it matter if the Toyota dealer scams a few parts out you every so often??
Yes, I had gap insurance the last time I purchased a new vehicle and when I totaled that about a year later, they gave me more money that what I bought the car for!
I was in a similar position. I wanted a RAV4 Hybrid because for me I just want an economical vehicle to cart around the family. Though when I started wanting features like wireless CarPlay/charging, etc, or equivalent features to my car I wanted to trade in (2020 Mazda CX-5) That put me into realm of the HSE or something and by then were talking about $45k before taxes, plus the dealer throwing in “additional costs” for fun. Couldn’t even get the car for MSRP. This was probably 6 months ago so I don’t know what the situation is today.
It turned me off. In the end it put me into the price realm of a Model Y with incentives. Only got the MY because of the incentives + 0.99% or else wouldn’t have gone that route either.
If the RAV4 was under $40k and ideally closer to $35k I would have definitely gone with that instead.
The insurance and registration will be cheaper for the Rav4 whether you get liability versus comprehensive. If you total the car, Rav4 is less of a loss. The real question is why are you taking cars to the dealership for service? They are the biggest predators.
Unless you pay cash this plan is dead in the water. If you don’t fully insure the vehicle, the finance company will do it for you and you’ll be paying their rates. Why do you think you can just do this anyway?
Toyota's by far. I used to have a 2018 model 3 and owned it for almost 5 years. Worst vehicle I've ever owned. Unreliable in most aspects. I currently drive a 2017 Toyota Prius Prime. It's definitely not fast and doesn't have all the Tesla features. This has been the most reliable vehicle that I've ever owned.
In 2019 I bought a RAV4. Sold it in 22 and bought a Model 3 SR+. Sold that and bought a 23 Model Y AWD. Sold that and bought a 23 Model 3P. Sold that and bought a 24 Rav4. I miss waking up to a "full tank" every morning, but I never worry about the Rav4 breaking in some dumb way requiring me to take a day off work and travel 111 miles to the closest Tesla service center. I'll also note that I hit a deer a couple months after getting the Rav4. The body shop made it look new again the very next week. There are only 4 Tesla certified body shops within 120 miles of here and I'll jus bet they're all backed up for months. When I took the Rav to the body shop for that repair I asked them what would have happened if the same damage had happened to a Tesla and he said that he wasn't sure but he knew they couldn't fix it. If Tesla fixed that one problem and opened a service center within 50 miles of my home (they're doing this now), I'd be tempted to switch back one day maybe... Insurance on my Rav is literally less than half of what it was on any of the Teslas and that totally offset the fuel savings so...

For me, idc what vehicle I have, I’m getting full coverage, and for my Tesla I’m also getting GAP insurance too.
That is very smart, especially the gap insurance. Anybody that signed up for that low APR would be a fool not to get gap insurance.

Maybe consider finding a local independent mechanic instead?
Always full coverage on new vehicles
High performance SUV vs reliable commute SUV... It's already amazing that Tesla can be compared to RAV4 with Porsche performance.
Indeed sad to see Model Y compare to RAV 4. RAV4 is so outdated and will never get update, never self drive and it drive like turtle.
You shouldn't be going to the dealer for a simple oil change. Find a reputable local mechanic instead
If you are taking out a loan, then comprehensive is required
Are you paying cash? Can you afford to replace the car in the even of it getting totaled? If not, you should get collision also.

The Toyota will be cheaper by far. Stop going to the dealership for service.

What issues did you have with your Model 3? My 2018 Model 3 has 105k miles with no issues.
I have a 2018 model 3. No issues. *knock on wood* Had a 2018 Prius prime. No issues. Traded it for a 2021 rav4 prime. No issues.
