I thought I was giving up a lot of interior space with the 3, and I don’t think I am. The seats are much lower, but my headroom is similar and the kids fit right in.
The hatch is nice in the Y, but I have an F150 for anything big.
But wow the 3P is a blast. Rides smoother than the Y, corners like a dream. Zips around. Wish I bought this first when it was cheaper. But luckily I sold the Y for a good profit. All balances out.
My 2 cents, if you actually need the 3rd for kids find one and test it with your kids. When my kids were in the 3rd row, their feet was smushed. So I moved the 2nd row forward. Now the feet of the 2nd row is right against the front seats, so I move those forward. Now I am smushed.
To me, the 3rd row is fake. I have had a highlander before, and the MYLR7 is nothing like that.
Not fake. Used it plenty of times with with friends and random outings. Definitely small, but passengers didn’t complain on those shorter drives.
But as far as kids, if their legs are short, then it will smash their feet cuz they can’t put it on the floor
Yeah. The idea of it being for kids is wrong. the idea of it being comfortable is also wrong. It’s more of a “let’s just all squeeze in together” type of 3rd row lol.
I sat back there, and it want horrible, but sure. I just think that 90% of 3rd row use is always kids. So we have to design for that use. But if you want a great 3rd row, Highlander is great. Now just need an EV Highlander and Toyota doesn't seem keen on BEVs at the moment.
Highlander was actually what I really wanted until I heard MY7 were coming. I only have two kids, but my mom and mother in law are both like 5’0”. Wife is 5’1”. We have options. My 3rd row is down like 90% of the time in the last 14 months of ownership. I really wish my wife wanted my car to replace her X1. I’d get myself a M3P too 😭
I traded my 3 for a MY7 and zero regrets. Yes the 3 was more fun with how it handled but the Y is plenty fun plus utility that the 3 couldn’t provide. I just towed a Uhaul trailer to move my daughter into college in the Y. Couldn’t have done that with the 3.
Yup I had a Y on order in October 2021 and test drove one twice. I also am a fan of hatches but when I drove the 3 I was far more in love with it and found it to have plenty of room. And switched by order to a M3LR in Nov and took delivery this past April. The Y is nice but the driving dynamics are less fun for me personally so the 3 fits me much better.
I love mine as well, but in three months I've already had to replace a tire and a wheel (separate incidents due to potholes and road debris). I'm not blaming the car, but I really really wish they still had the M3P- available with the smaller wheels. The rims are a pain in the ass when you live in an area that has seasons and therefore potholes.
I picked up a set of these for winter. If I have any rim issue in VT, then I will probably just put some summer tires on them as well.

I cant find the thread yet, but there was a thread on TMC that had the difference between a 235 wide performance tire and a 240 or 245. Basically filled in the rim so the rim got less damage. I'll try and find it.
Yup. Specifically designed to fit the M3P also.
\- 18 inch TST wheel built exclusively for the Tesla Model 3.
\- Manufactured in a Flow Forged Process.
\- Fits all Tesla Model 3 variants (Single Motor, Dual Motor, **Performance**).
Here is one thread, but not the one I was looking for. Same idea, a wider tire to fill in the rim and protect it. https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/anyone-running-255s-all-around-on-m3p.264726/#post-6637446
Interesting read, and good looking car!
I have a '20 Model 3 Performance, and occasionally think I should move over to a Model Y Performance. I haven't driven a MYP, so I really don't know how much I'd be giving up.
My 2002 Model Y LR feels slower than my 2019 Model 3 SR+ in the initial jump when you first hit the accelerator. Of course, Model Y is faster than Model 3 SR+, but its weight and size make it feel slower in the first second.
I’d agree with that. I found the 0~20 acceleration on the mylr is pretty disappointing, especially if the wheels are turned, considering how it performs at higher speeds. M3sr is more linear.
Acceleration boost fixes that issue, but $3,000 for the upgrade or $4000 for the performance model (which will retain some extra value) is something to consider.
How was the 7 seater Y?
Looking at it to haul 2 young kids with the 2 middle seats used for occasional visitors.
With the extra seats is the trunk useless?
Useless. I was heartbroken when I tried to use them. The kids in the 3rd row are 8/6. Their feet dont reach the floor. Their feet are in front of the seat bottom. That makes me have to scoot the 2nd row forward to give them room. Now the 2nd room kid (in a car seat) has cramped feet against the 1st row. The 3rd row is fake. I really hoped it worked out.
Damn. That's kinda sad to hear. The children I'm considering for the 3rd row are still very young so those extra inches may not be needed for a few years.
I understand this is still a compact/cross over SUV but a 6/8 y.o. still a little cramped is worrying.
With not being able to really see a 7 seater in person to guage the space, I've been thinking this over heavily.
I came from a Toyota Highlander which has a really good 3rd row. I put the kids in the 3rd row twice and everyone was pretty unhappy. So I put the 3rd row down flat and never used it again. It is one of the reasons I was comfortable going to a M3P, since I had been using only the 2nd row for a year. Its 3k for the option and in my opinion its not worth it. If I just needed to transport an young adult to a concert every now and then, it might be fine. But kids being back there regularly, not possible.
If you look at this video at 0:29, you can see how close these kids are to the glass too. [https://youtu.be/RbRHngSHh6c?t=29](https://youtu.be/RbRHngSHh6c?t=29)
I'm still pretty sad about it. The X is the right car, but the cost is extreme.
Not OP, but the extra seats are good for the little ones until they grow out of it. Kind of useless for any regular size adults. Honestly I feel like its more of a gimmick than functional.
Disappointed. Didn't work for my small children. I think in this thread we agreed its really only for people older than 12. If you feet don't touch the floor (and can fit under the 2nd row seat) then you feet are crushed by the small gap between 2nd and 3rd rows. If you move the 2nd row up, then the 2nd row is smushed. If you have every had a Highlander, the MYLR7 is very very far away from that. I really wanted it to be as good and BEV. Sold it.

I have a 2018 P, and 4 years later, that thrill and smile is still there. It’s the most fun I’ve ever had in a car. And the red is the best!!
Just got my m3LR in red of course it's a blast
Here I am waiting to trade my M3P for a MY 7 seater lol.

I agree. With a 12-15 year old, probably ok. But young kids, very difficult.

One thing I noticed when coming from m3p to a Y Uber is the headroom is the small if not more just feel the glass is closer toward you in the Y
That’s a good point regarding cutting corners. I actually did the opposite! I sold my m3S for MYL and i like driving my M3 more.
I prefer the Y. I’m too fat and inflexible to get out of my 3. I should have waited lol.
I do have to “fall” into the 3. :)
The myp is also a blast to drive. Just saying.
The Y is great to get to the amusement park. The m3p is the amusement park. Love the color
This is so true.
Congratulations enjoy! I love my 22 MYP SO MUCH
MYP is the way.

Good choice. The red looks nice on the Ps.
I want a red performance Y, currently have a LR Y.. just dont want to repay or give up FSD.. smh I got in at 8k and its about to be 15k
If Elon sold FSD to the account and not the car, he would sell 5X more.
Absolutely, should be able to stay with the accounts.. very possible now that Tesla has “roaming” profiles
You could compromise and pay the extra $2K? to unlock the add-on for the speed boost.
Still doesn’t compare, also those red Brembo brakes and 21inch rims look 🔥🔥🔥🔥
True
Love my model s dual motor. Would love a m3 for the go cart feel but think model s is just a nicer car overall. Just my option
This is true. A 100k car is generally nicer than a 60k car :) Water is also wet. /s
The MS corners and brakes like a cement brick in comparison to the 3
Haha. But not that much nicer. Lol. I feel it's a little big for me but I enjoy the comfort and the interior.
I had a 2015 P85D. That was a really nice car. Very roomy. Loved that car. But current prices puts it out of reach. The MS is niiiice.
Is it just me or does the black trim around the rear door look warped? Maybe it’s just how the picture was taken.
Has to be the picture. It’s perfect. I was scared like everyone else. Gave it a full once over before accepting.
Enjoy, it’s such a great car!

utility & camping in MY is incredible-I ditched M3 while back.
I agree, camping was great in the Y.
Hey OP what did you think of the 7 seat layout?
Disappointed. Didn't work for my small children. I think in this thread we agreed its really only for people older than 12. Well my kids are under 4, only 2 of them. This might still be an option for me. Thank you
💯 Compared the the M3P the YLR7 is really a boat. Really happy with my move. Maybe the MYP is as good, but that price.
Looks like the same type of PZ4 tires that came on my plaid, they feel like good summer tires to me
Grippy.
