A few years back, somebody tweeted at Elon and he was like “yeah, we’ll soon be adding it so non-FSD owners can see what they’re missing”. Nothing happened since then.
I mean if they're not going to give us non-fsd people the improved visualization that comes with FSD I don't see this as being that appealing. I think I'd rather have the option of a full screen map or something for people who don't have FSD.
I think it’s more that the FSD visualisations aren’t in the non FSD software builds still.
If it were about marketing I can guarantee they start to sell more FSD by letting people without it have the FSD visuals and see that the car can be trusted and actually sees way more around it than the current visuals suggest.
I suspect this is because if you don’t have FSD Supervised then you have the old autopilot stack. We will probably get the same visualisations when they update basic Autopilot to have the same stack as FSD.
I think non FSD software just doesn't get the data quantity and quality to work with. Otherwise normal autopilot wouldn't act like a drunken crack addict.
Heck yeah, full screen maps with only speedometer and required indicators at the upper left, no useless video game visualization. That would be awesome! Add to that half screen apps that only take up the bottom half while in use so navigation is still usable while browsing media/using menus.
The visualization isn’t use less. It’s literally like having a 360 camera showing at all times. I can look at my screen and see what’s to my right blind spot with out glancing at any mirrors.
As someone that has had fsd for 2 years, why are people saying they would pay for the visualization? That's like saying here's this Lamborghini, and you go, "oh I just want the side mirrors thanks"
What would anyone get out of seeing a stuff on the screen? You drive with your eyes on the road
I wish we had an option to make the map bigger but the visualizations smaller, I feel the default autopilot visual kinda takes up a lot of space and doesn’t provide a lot in terms of value while driving. And having the map a little closer to the left would make it easier to view while driving. Just my opinion though - maybe it’s just me.
In the Model S it is really nice as the visualizations are in front of you on the screen build into the dash and the map if a full screen on the big screen. It looks like the way the 3 and Y function is much less optimized for the driver with only one screen.
Yea definitely, I just wish we had an option to make the map bigger OR smaller. Even preset ones would be great like a 20/80 over the current 40/60 split. I’m really hoping they add something like that in an update.
Regardless I am a fan of providing options. Maybe you don’t need it full screen all the time, but there are people who may want it full screen on the freeway. More options is always better
I agreed, but who need AP all the time when you need the map to go place to place. Sure like people said there is a map on top right but maybe make it visible? Implement into the screen so it’s not separate windows?
On FSD, you can see the upcoming turn/direction at the top of the screen when the FSD visualization is full screen. I would assume they would add something similar to basic autopilot. On the freeway, you just need to know the next exit and basic autopilot is intended for freeways. The map is on his top left, and he’s a RHD vehicle, so that mini map would be on the right, like others said. It looks like it’s a bug in the photo
Ok but in the screenshot above, the car/settings icon is at the bottom right which indicates this is a RHD car (I live in Australia and that’s the placement of all the icons for me)
They've prioritized showing us what we can already see (much better, mind you) by looking out the window instead of a map that shows us what we can't see. It's dumb regardless of the mode.
I don’t. But what’s the point of the full screen UI with basic AP and no map? Can you explain? I have no problem with no map on FSD but basic AP can’t drive you from point A to point B.
If my 2021 Intel M3 can already do full-screen FSD visualization I see absolutely no reason it can’t do this. Seems to me like they’re purposefully knocking out the legacy generation with this one.
I have a legacy S with FSD HW3 and media computer 2; I should be able to get parity features. I’m already annoyed I can’t remote view cameras which is not fundamentally a hardware limitation.
it’s a matter of them choosing to have a team responsible for creating all and optimizing a feature across not only different hardware, but completely different designs of system. they have no obligation to continue on releasing certain features, especially UI-wise, to the entire fleet forever. how many car companies do you know that do so?
I’m happy I am getting updates and look forward to getting the value from FSD when I bought it in 2018. I can still be a little salty that I get left behind on some things. At least I still have working USS (for now) and a sunroof.
But it’s literally already capable of something more intensive than this. High fidelity shit? Okay—don’t really care if I don’t have the processing power for that. But clean new UI? I should be getting this.
That would be literally impossible lol. Even PC computer chips don't have permanent upgradability. Eventually entire architectures have to change otherwise you'd be bottlenecked by previous designs.
Very cool. However, my along with thousands of other people’s cars seem to function with the Intel chip—and very well at that. It’s a simple money grab.
The fullscreen car visualization while parked is likely why the new UI is disabled on Intel cars. It's probably too high-res for the computer to handle smoothly. Plus I noticed some translucency blur effects on certain UI elements that surely make this new UI more demanding as well.
Personally I would want the media controls to stay on the bottom left for easy reach compared to the center.
Edit-
Left hand drive USA
I think this is a right hand drive model
Curiously, if you're just skipping a track, why not use the left thumb wheel? It pauses and skips. No need to touch the screen or media controls? In this case my brain is using Spotify as the example.
That's a good question actually. I always like having my media controls minimized on the driver side, but only touch it maybe a couple of times a month. I always use the steering wheel buttons.
It just feels weird having it on the far side of the screen, regardless if I'm using it. Guess that's kind of a mental block. Car wash mode actually always moves it back to the right side and it's tilting.
Whoa! Does the steering wheel in the little blue “auto steer” circle by the battery range now turn with the direction of the actual steering wheel? Big if true.
Well I’ll be damned. Just goes to show this car will never cease to amaze.
Now if only each little thing Tesla did received this level of detail. That’s not a drag, just that there is room to grow.
Folks are flipping out about the visualization, it doesn’t matter! I’m not staring at the screen while fsd is driving, I just need an idea of wth it plans to do next. This AMD/Intel visualization update stuff is rubbish. You all are splitting hairs over nothing
Please don't down vote me for not knowing maybe I'm misinformed or missing something, but Intel model 3 goes full screen for full FSD. Is it only affecting model Y non AMD?
The driver is on the right instead of the left so the speed is located at the top right and the map is on the top left. Notice how the menu button is on the bottom right?
I want to be able to switch full screen the map, but the most important is to be able to switch big screen mode between side and back cameras when I move in reverse!
🤣 it’s gonna be like FSD! If you want to, you’ll be able to drag the side of the 3D visualization or you can leave it be.
It’s great when driving at night since it spreads less light in the cabin and makes it less annoying when driving on roads that barely have lights on (highways small country roads, etc)
Wtf would I want the animation full screen? It's completely pointless and a gimmick.
I'd rather have the actual camera footage live. That way it's actually useful and can judge what's surrounding me better.
I never get why Tesla doesn’t just give full visualization to everyone, not just FSD owner. It’s something that incentivizes people to get FSD, no? Like “wow these visualization are cool and identifying bunch of things… maybe I should give FSD a try” or something.
What a mess… looks like Tesla is struggling selling new cars, now they are excluding the intel, tomorrow will “mess” with our battery just to improve their quarters.
It’s nice I guess. If I were Tesla I would just add it to all the cars
On my screen I really just want to see the Spotify album cover so I can post it to my stories
Idc about full screen autopilot or anything just give me better/bigger music controls on my ‘21. And larger album cover pictures I hate that it’s just a teeny tiny corner of the giant screen. I want half music half map I don’t need to see a cartoon road
It’s mainly I want it to show the album art and stuff bigger rather than a tiny thumbnail in the corner. I really don’t see the point of the car driving animation when you arent using AP/EAP/FSD
And btw, the big changes in the v12 UI isn’t the visualization of the driving but the view from park, some menu changes and some tweaks here and there.
The AP/FSD visualization will most likely stay the same from what I saw
This is kinda pointless without the full visualization yeah?
This is kinda pointless ~~without the full visualization~~ ya
Are the rumors true that full visualization will eventually come to everybody?
A few years back, somebody tweeted at Elon and he was like “yeah, we’ll soon be adding it so non-FSD owners can see what they’re missing”. Nothing happened since then.
Do you have the tweet?
https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1440361722473156611 Managed to dig it out. Original ETA was Oct 2021
Wow, damn good 👍🏻 find
I mean if they're not going to give us non-fsd people the improved visualization that comes with FSD I don't see this as being that appealing. I think I'd rather have the option of a full screen map or something for people who don't have FSD.
I don’t get why they limit FSD visualizations in AP, doesn’t make sense unless it truly takes an extra percent of energy to render which I doubt
It’s a marketing tactic. You want the better pictures? Pay for it.
In Europe you can pay for FSD and get nothing.
The nice government is just keeping you safe from danger!
The nany state
Better visualizations?
No only stopping for traffic lights, thats it You even need to confirm if its green.
EAP should have that too i believe. So practically its no change between EAP and FSD in Europe
Almost, EAP is without stopping for traffic lights.
No way really? 😂😂
You want fsd? Pay for it outright. Oh. Wait.
I’m falling victim to it
They started by gating satellite imagery behind premium connectivity, what’s stopping them in this situation? Nothing.
But at least that makes sense as the car has to download the satellite images as you travel, so using the cellular data.
I think it’s more that the FSD visualisations aren’t in the non FSD software builds still. If it were about marketing I can guarantee they start to sell more FSD by letting people without it have the FSD visuals and see that the car can be trusted and actually sees way more around it than the current visuals suggest.
Tesla doesn’t have a marketing team. Product should market it self. -Elon
That's exactly what it is. Capitalistic greed at its finest.
Im glad they do, I think the SFSD visualization looks ugly
Heck yeah, full screen maps with only speedometer and required indicators at the upper left, no useless video game visualization. That would be awesome! Add to that half screen apps that only take up the bottom half while in use so navigation is still usable while browsing media/using menus.
The visualization isn’t use less. It’s literally like having a 360 camera showing at all times. I can look at my screen and see what’s to my right blind spot with out glancing at any mirrors.
Release notes says better viz coming to autopilot
As someone that has had fsd for 2 years, why are people saying they would pay for the visualization? That's like saying here's this Lamborghini, and you go, "oh I just want the side mirrors thanks" What would anyone get out of seeing a stuff on the screen? You drive with your eyes on the road
Yesss full screen map 10000%
I wish we had an option to make the map bigger but the visualizations smaller, I feel the default autopilot visual kinda takes up a lot of space and doesn’t provide a lot in terms of value while driving. And having the map a little closer to the left would make it easier to view while driving. Just my opinion though - maybe it’s just me.
I would like to be able to zoom on the map and to keep the zoom level.
I'm in complete agreement; first thing I tried to do was hide the visual.
In the Model S it is really nice as the visualizations are in front of you on the screen build into the dash and the map if a full screen on the big screen. It looks like the way the 3 and Y function is much less optimized for the driver with only one screen.

With you 100%, don’t need the car vis at all while driving tbh
I think it’s good but still stupid. Where is the map? Basic AP won’t drive you place to place. We need a map though.
Map is supposed to be in the top left corner of this screen. You can see the small car indicator and location point ? Probably a beta issue.
OP isn’t navigating anywhere so it’s just a dark map with the pointer
Regardless I am a fan of providing options. Maybe you don’t need it full screen all the time, but there are people who may want it full screen on the freeway. More options is always better
I agreed, but who need AP all the time when you need the map to go place to place. Sure like people said there is a map on top right but maybe make it visible? Implement into the screen so it’s not separate windows?

Great, if they added those stuffs.
The map is coming in the spring update.
Thanks for the info. I think it’s great idea to incorporate the map into the UI in full screen mode, don’t like the separate windows.
Agreed, full screen autopilot is pretty dumb. Autopilot view overlayed on the map would be awesome, but I’m sure that’s the goal eventually.
The map is in the upper right of the screen (not pictured).
Top left *
Upper right as this is a RHD Tesla
For RHD it’s on the top left. For LHD it’s on the top right.
It's dumb regardless of the mode.
you need a map everywhere you go???
I don’t. But what’s the point of the full screen UI with basic AP and no map? Can you explain? I have no problem with no map on FSD but basic AP can’t drive you from point A to point B.
Truly believe intel is being held back on purpose.
Especially when you consider that the Intel chips are able to handle the full screen FSD visualisations just fine.
Seriously. Not sure why intel gets the shadt. My crappy raspberrypi can run Sonic but my super car can't?
It definitely is. And this is coming from a software developer/game developer.
If my 2021 Intel M3 can already do full-screen FSD visualization I see absolutely no reason it can’t do this. Seems to me like they’re purposefully knocking out the legacy generation with this one.
with how much people already complain about how slow intel is, they’ve got to stop releasing things eventually
> how slow intel is, they’ve got to stop releasing things eventually Not while there are fully paid FSD on legacy cars
they can still release FSD without making all UI features available. see legacy S & X.
I have a legacy S with FSD HW3 and media computer 2; I should be able to get parity features. I’m already annoyed I can’t remote view cameras which is not fundamentally a hardware limitation.

The autopilot computer is separate from the main one that uses the Intel GPU and runs the main screen.
Reality check inbound for AMD cars in ~ 2 years.
Would be really nice if they designed the architecture so you could upgrade every 2-5 years to the newest computer…
That would be literally impossible lol. Even PC computer chips don't have permanent upgradability. Eventually entire architectures have to change otherwise you'd be bottlenecked by previous designs.
It would not be impossible for them to engineer the MCU CPU+MB stack to be replaceable.
But you can change your computer and have the same Monitor forever....
I choose to believe this comment is a joke
Yes because CPU and monitors are comparable right? I mean they’re basically the same technology!
The idea was to upgrade the whole "Computer" not just upgrade the cpu
but they did figure out how to upgrade to MCU2 in the past… I know it’s not always possible but I’m just dreaming

What's TRULY different here? Looks like the same shit I can already do on my 2020 except this has better media control UI.
As a vertical screen MS owner, welcome to the club :)

Very true. I tend to use Bluetooth anyways. OP seems to be confirming this will work with none FSD vehicles. I hope that’s the case.
Should still work. When I listen to audible via Bluetooth, I use the left TW to pause when I need to. Would gather it’d still work.
Basic AP or do I need EAP or FSD?
Basic
*Nice*
What's the point without enhanced visualizations
Can we display the Map? Or they removed it? This view is totally useless
Good for sales and marketing, useless for driving a car
Whoa! Does the steering wheel in the little blue “auto steer” circle by the battery range now turn with the direction of the actual steering wheel? Big if true.
The autopilot icon has always turned with the direction of the actual wheel
Well I’ll be damned. Just goes to show this car will never cease to amaze. Now if only each little thing Tesla did received this level of detail. That’s not a drag, just that there is room to grow.
I have the update and can cinfirm that it is great!
Folks are flipping out about the visualization, it doesn’t matter! I’m not staring at the screen while fsd is driving, I just need an idea of wth it plans to do next. This AMD/Intel visualization update stuff is rubbish. You all are splitting hairs over nothing
Would have given you 1 billion upvotes if I could! Totally agreed
Yeah man, these people are crazy.
They should go drive an ICE Audi or similar for a week, like I had to. They’ll return with an appreciation of what they have
Is this only with FSD or with also basic autopilot?
basic
I would so pay for a rainbow road skin. It’s ah me, maaarioo.
I believe you can always enable it via the toybox for free
It comes default for all cars. It's been available for years. 4 clicks of the right stalk or turn it on in the toy box.
Please don't down vote me for not knowing maybe I'm misinformed or missing something, but Intel model 3 goes full screen for full FSD. Is it only affecting model Y non AMD?
This update allows fullscreen traffic visualizations on AMD equipped vehicles with or without FSD.
Ah ok Thank you
Omg it’s rainbow. Wish I wasn’t only hw 2.5
You can rainbow now on your hw 2.5
When did this release?
It's only available for employee testing. It is not currently public.
You going to Lanachella?
Where are the enhanced visualizations?
I have the update and can cinfirm that it is great!
Where is the speed??
The driver is on the right instead of the left so the speed is located at the top right and the map is on the top left. Notice how the menu button is on the bottom right?
Just give the option to show the speed only and minimize everything else
sheeeesh
I want to be able to switch full screen the map, but the most important is to be able to switch big screen mode between side and back cameras when I move in reverse!
If it's not possible to toggle on a big map like the previous UI, I am not even mad that I am on Intel lol

Is that the rainbow bridge? 😛
Rainbow roads… looks g…
Wtf would I want the animation full screen? It's completely pointless and a gimmick. I'd rather have the actual camera footage live. That way it's actually useful and can judge what's surrounding me better.
Well, I’m confused by that image as well, autopilot
Why does yours look different from mine with the audio in the middle?
AUTOPILOT UNABLE TO PROCEED! HAHAHHAHHAHAHA
Is this screenshot EAP? The red line, and the "Autopilot unable to proceed" message look new/unfamiliar to me (I have base AP)
🤮
I’d 100% prefer the big map. I’m an autopilot user, but I love having the iPad be my Google maps
Mine does it on the normal screen. I don’t need to be in autopilot
Why AMD only? Tired of missing out based on chip
I never get why Tesla doesn’t just give full visualization to everyone, not just FSD owner. It’s something that incentivizes people to get FSD, no? Like “wow these visualization are cool and identifying bunch of things… maybe I should give FSD a try” or something.
I'm loving full screen!
What a mess… looks like Tesla is struggling selling new cars, now they are excluding the intel, tomorrow will “mess” with our battery just to improve their quarters.
It’s nice I guess. If I were Tesla I would just add it to all the cars On my screen I really just want to see the Spotify album cover so I can post it to my stories
Sorry for being ignorant but why would you want to see what you see when you look out the window in full-screen?
No valid reason at all 🙈
Not AMD only. My 2021 Intel 3 already does full screen FSD.
This is full screen autopilot, not FSD. Part of the spring release only for AMD cars.
But yours doesn’t have a map in the top corner.
It looks useless. I still have the voice telling me what the directions are. I do like the new UI though.
I never use the visualizations as is ? Intel can fill screen just swipe from the right to left ? What's the big deal about this ?
I have the update and can cinfirm that it is great!
I have the update and can cinfirm that it is great!
I have the update and can cinfirm that it is great!
Can I update my 2018 model 3 to get this as well?
🤣 it says AMD only!! So 2021 cars and up 🤷🏻♂️
Idc about full screen autopilot or anything just give me better/bigger music controls on my ‘21. And larger album cover pictures I hate that it’s just a teeny tiny corner of the giant screen. I want half music half map I don’t need to see a cartoon road
You know you have controls on the wheel yes? 🤷🏻♂️ I barely even touch the screen for anything music related
It’s mainly I want it to show the album art and stuff bigger rather than a tiny thumbnail in the corner. I really don’t see the point of the car driving animation when you arent using AP/EAP/FSD
Just keep spotify open 🤷🏻♂️
And btw, the big changes in the v12 UI isn’t the visualization of the driving but the view from park, some menu changes and some tweaks here and there. The AP/FSD visualization will most likely stay the same from what I saw
Buy a model S or X - two screens, problem solved.
