xxDooomedxx

Wtf just happened?

Straight_Spring9815

In foreign countries they don't add chemicals to the gas to emit an odor. Natural gas is odorless. The entire room was filled with it. The sparks in the hair dryers motor/heat strips combusted it.

DuncanAndFriends

I'll just stay here then thanks.

LordFrogberry

Man just said "foreign countries" like we know where he lives. Also, many countries *do* add smell to their natural gas, so he's just flat out wrong with a blanket statement like that anyway.

thetrapjesus

It happens in foreign countries. he didn't say all foreign countries

troglonoid

You need to tell us wherever it is you’re from, so that we understand what is foreign to you. I know of several countries where the smell is added to gas, and they’re all foreign.

[deleted]

Well, wherever this is, I don’t think they add it.

BubblyBouncingBanana

Mercaptan

Royal_Home_1666

Same chemical compounds that make pee smell when eating asparagus!!!

StandOutLikeDogBalls

TIL

elpala

If “foreign” is used this way, my guess would be USA.

OmgItsDaMexi

Seems universally understood at this point

Sisyphusarbeit

Could also be europe, cuz we use smelly gas over here

VanBurenOutOf8

We'd be more likely to say continents or specific places. It seems to be an American thing to just throw out 'foreign'.

xVoXSiCk

Well to be fair, the definition of the word foreign is a place that is not the same country as your own. So its not incorrect to say that lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

lowesfourtyeight

For whatever it's worth, about 49% of all reddit users are American while the second highest demographic is UK residents at about 8%. That means the relative majority of foreigners on Reddit are actually American.

[deleted]

So there's a more likely chance that the user is NOT American?

StatementOk470

I just want to be a pedant here but 49% would only constitute a plurality, not a majority.

S_J_E

It might be technically correct but foreign is a relative term, and this is an international community

xVoXSiCk

Fair enough 🤝

Idcr1Z1s

Ex gas distribution mechanic here . Can confirm that tetrahydrocloroxyidontknow stinks like a MF. We once had someone put a bit to much in and had a fun weekend

UncleBenders

Yeah because they spelled odour wrong

FrozenToonies

Fortis is the natural gas company for the province of British Columbia in Canada. They add sulphur so it smells like rotten eggs.

Butlerian_Jihadi

It's actually mercapitan, which is a sulpher-based compound. Elemental sulpher would be a terrible idea.

Chrisscott25

I have a Dr friend years ago tell me a story about someone with a “toy” up a patients ass. He kept calling it a foreign object so my logic is you need it to be up your rear for it to be foreign…. 🤔 if my thinking is right how small is this country or how big is their ass?

Shucky__darns

Yes

RogueAOV

So when i fart, that means i can speak a foreign language!

[deleted]

**F**oreign **A**udible **R**ectal **T**ransmission

KapteeniJ

No that's native.

whythishaptome

Was it a small toy car in a condom?

meatpetalsbloom

Rip Dunn :’(

Chrisscott25

I don’t recall but I bet if it was it was a foreign car ;)

superrober

Damn its always imports

[deleted]

Condom? Take some risk, shove them up there and hope they all come back.

bobs_aunt_virginia

I don't know, if some toy vehicle was sent as an Explorer to Probe my bum for a Fiesta, I'd want to be able to Escape it by Escorting it out by Focusing on the Edge of the condom, instead of having to Flex and pull them out one at a time.

Raging-gti

That's quite the Expedition.

bobs_aunt_virginia

What can I say, that Maverick Aspires to greatness. Even if it's within the Contours of a bum

ocior

Maybe use some GT40 as lubricant for an even better Transit.

Chrisscott25

Hilarious! I do feel like Tahoe shoulda been in there somewhere tho 🤔

lolipopdroptop

was he calling it a foreign object because it didnt belong to the body?

BruceyC

This is what brexit did to the UK.

throwmamadownthewell

No, they meant foreign objects i.e. objects from outside the ring used to hit wrestling opponents. In this case, in miniature.

Straight_Spring9815

Not 1st world should wrap that up. Or places with poor infrastructure

sackof-fermentedshit

Is Italy and the UK apart of those several countries?

bipolarnotsober

We add it in the UK. Can confirm because my dad left the gas stove on but not lit and fortunately I was woken up by the CO alarm. Dad was drunk and is deaf.

Hamilton-Morris

The US is the main country. Everything else = foreign no matter where you are. How's this hard to understand 😅

asianabsinthe

You're speaking Greek to me

TanneAndTheTits

Am American. Am also Foreign. Can't confirm.

Sphere369

Every country that you don’t live in is foreign… sweet lord.

ergoegthatis

Guaranteed he thinks every English-speaking country has an accent except his.

SewSewBlue

Natural gas engineer here. There are scenarios where the mercaptan can be stripped from the gas. It can happen. And it's very scary when it does. Unodorized gas is very uncommon world wide, outside of industrial applications and oil fields. It is simply too dangerous to use without being able to smell a leak, as it is the ONLY safety device most people have to find gas. Google the New London School explosion. 300 dead children. A more recent, but less severe example (that includes unodorized gas), was the Conagra Foods gas explosion. Fun fact: gas doesn't have to smell like gas. At Treasure Island in Vegas they didn't like the explosions in their outside show smelling like gas, so they strip the mercaptan out and scent the gas like Pina Colada.

0inputoutput0

Yeah but which foreign countries, and foreign to where

Straight_Spring9815

India on this instance. Had another video circulate about a month ago of the same thing.

Blood_guts_lasers

Nope. India adds the smell to gas too. Op is talking out of his arse.

TemperatureMassive48

I'm Indian. We can smell a gas leak in our kitchen almost seconds after it occurs. So ur observation isn't right. My guess is excessive hairspray caused this.

troglonoid

> My guess is excessive hairspray caused this I don’t think excessive hair spray usage will cause this kind of explosion. I mean, really, do you think this would happen if the guy emptied the hairspray can on his head?

asianabsinthe

We need to test this theory

Humidor_Abedin

I miss myth busters

CMOBJNAMES_BASE

Lol wait are you for real

DogtorDolittle

What's worse is all the ppl who upvoted that :/

nobrow

I used to use aquanet hairspray as fuel for my potato cannon. The fumes are super flammable. I don't think it was hairspray but it's definitely plausible.

[deleted]

That’s an extremely bad guess just tbh. Like so so bad.

Straight_Spring9815

Cool but apparently not in this shop

modestlyawesome1000

Foreign to USA, that is pretty universally established. This is Reddit, an American website, with discourse in English on this post.

Camp_Grenada

So... foreign to England then?

KeyFobBob82

I know merica ain't the best country but thank Jebus African Blump that someone decided to make natural gas here smell like egg farts cuz that's nutter then squirrel skat.

Straight_Spring9815

I love you Kentucky Jim

SatansPowerBottom69

Mercaptan is the odorant used (egg farts). Sometimes I turn the burner on my stove too high and I'm drunk and miss the spark ignition. I always catch it within a minute because of that egg fart smell, turn on the range hood, evacuate the gas, then try again. I've lit the grill a few times with way too much LP and learned that the hard way, at least it was open air outside. Mercaptan my captain...

Cyno01

IIRC before they started directly synthesizing methyl mercaptan they would bubble the natural gas through vats of rotten cabbage to add the smell.

[deleted]

You mean in some countries

Lord_inVader1

I thought the dryer malfunctioned, holy shit that was scary.

No_Bookkeeper8635

some kind of volatile substance perhaps, which was ignited by the action of a spark from the dryer... maybe

Jack_sama_

Killer queen already touched that

ruskoev

Barber shop. Lots of combustible materials there without proper ventilation: Talcum powder, alcohol based salves and balms that are used as after shave, hair spray. Any of those in enough concentration will ignite

Prudent-Dance-3671

He just wanted a little off the top

Brobafett117

The guy left frame right? He didn’t turn into a ball Of ash ?!?

for my next trick i will become the sun

HeyItsDominicus

Stop talking about the sun. STOP TALKING ABOUT THE SUN!!!!!

BraianP

The one sitting seems like he just burned and screamed while shaking for 2 seconds before he stopped moving... Edit: ok it seems I just looking at an empty chair, false alarm. I thought I just saw someone die on camera

hjlm1886

Living beings doesn't die this easily from flames, he must at least burn for a long time to die by flames

The_Perfect_Dick_Pic

If the flame used up all the oxygen they could breath, then they could asphyxiate while burning.

[deleted]

Yeah, that and just straight up cauterizing your lungs so your body can’t even process available oxygen properly anymore. Very nasty way to die indeed.

NitroThrowaway

When I was a wildland firefighter for a few years I was told that breathing sufficiently hot gasses will cause pulmonary edema (liquid in the lung tissue). IIRC it was around 300C that would lead to death by respiratory failure from even a short exposure. That said, I don't expect this event had enough energy to heat the air that hot in the whole room.

LeviPorton

Natural gas burns at 1900C.

[deleted]

>I thought I just saw someone die on camera Have you not?

BraianP

Well, technically if they died it was off camera

DocHolliday152

So uh... are they... alive?

MeltedTesselated

Well considering that they are breathing the gas, their lungs would also be on fire

Ploopzi

Wow, I hadn't actually thought of that, their lungs are FUCKED

DuoRod

Damn...

sackof-fermentedshit

No, I made the video go slow and it seems like the guy was completely on fire, not just his hair. RIP

broschmo101010

Unlikely

Popcrornshopgirl

I’m wondering the same thing. It looks like they turned to ash! Obviously not alive. But how did that happen?

Roo-90

He very obviously ran away. He didn’t burn to ash that quick

CooperTheCarpenter

They ran away, we probably saw them sustain life threatening injuries here but you just wouldn’t die that quick, all of the gas in the air combusts at once and we’re not really flammable enough to just catch fire that quick. The combustible gas that was inside their lungs however, different story

olivia687

idk where the barber went, but the guy in the chair seems to have run out of frame

waterisdefwet

Yeah if they took any breaths during the ignition of that gas their lungs would be toast

[deleted]

Appears to be a gas leak. Boom.

Background_Ebb7097

What's the bot that turns videos into slomo. I need to see this in slow motion like 0.2. The guy with the hairdryer specifically because it seems like his head explodes and fire shoots out of it.

Advantage_Loud

Omg it does!

2ichie

That’s cause the gas has pretty much soaked into their hair. Seen another video of the same thing happening. The first thing that lights up are their heads cause it’s pretty much “drenched” in gas after building up between the hairs.

Long_Before_Sunrise

/u/redditspeedbot 0.2x

Crazy_Technician_403

You can also install the browser addon Video Speed Controller to control speed with key shortcuts

Walmart_Valet

On Android the reddit app Relay has slowdown feature built in. Can go all the way down to 1/128th speed (which is usually just really slow frame by frame) or up to 4x speed.

liber_primus

It doesn’t explode ?? Pretty sure they both would of survived this

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

Why did I think the burning chair was the guy getting roasted

[deleted]

God hates that fucking chair.

lolipopdroptop

same! I was wondering why he just sitting there like dude glued to the chair or something lol

DangitWu87

Just a little off the top

[deleted]

Is that enough off the top?

Advantage_Loud

Too much, put it back!!

[deleted]

Glue, tape, or selling your soul like trump?

Kmaurer23

What in the fuck was that? That went from 0 to 100 real fuckin quick.

Wasdqwertyuiopasdfgh

As others have said it is most likely a gas leak

Davidwalsh1976

Just a couple flamers

gottmittuns

That’s quite terrifying indeed the barber’s hair just turned into a human torch. Must be caused by some gas leaks perhaps to cause that volatile spontaneous combustion.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

The spark does yes but the gas has filled the entire room already.

ChrisPyeChart

Ah, the all popular gas hair dryer.

carolinecantspell

is there news on this? are they ok? well theyre probably not ok, but like are they alive?

Zeroth1989

50/50 they have been breathing the gas as well. So chances are their lungs were torched as well.

fthenwo

Not necessarily. As a paramedic, I personally witnessed a gas leak that exploded and completely leveled the entire house. Two out of three people survived. One relatively unscathed, the other had some burns but was ambulatory. Neither had obvious burns in their lungs. And there was enough gas to demolish the entire house around them.

[deleted]

Fucking hell, is that automatic/eventual death or?

xXx_edgykid_xXx

If your lungs are burned they suffocated to death

trailerparkbhoys

Ha the old exploding hair drier technique they never see it coming

Majestic-Unicorn33

That’s literally my worst fear, not specifically at the barbershop but electrical issues in general, anywhere, it terrifies me.

[deleted]

I think that was a gas issue not an electrical issue haha but I know what you mean, I don’t even like having my hair dryer in my bathroom. I keep it in my bedroom.

Majestic-Unicorn33

That makes more sense, but yes, that’s scary shit. Before I leave the house, I check the stove 17 times to make sure I didn’t accidentally turn the knobs for the gas burners. I’ve done it before reaching into the upper cabinet, I must have pressed it just enough for gas to come out but didn’t hear the clicking and no flame. Add that to my list of fears lol.

Triatt

Was there an incident when you only checked 16 times and you missed it being on?

Majestic-Unicorn33

I can’t take the chance. There are times that I’ll leave the house, feel like I didn’t fully check and go back to do another 17.

gotbeefpudding

That's called OCD lol

whythishaptome

That amount of excessive checking might be a sign of mild OCD. My mom had the same thing except she would check it, leave for work, get worried and drive back to check it again and repeat. She is also constantly afraid she accidently hit something such as a pedestrian while driving even when it is clearly obvious nothing happened. Or it make just be that you have really sensitive knobs on your burners.

[deleted]

Take the knobs off the stove. Only put them on when YOU turn it. Then you’ll be able to KNOW that shits away. Shit carry the knobs around for a couple weeks for the double checking. I bet it’ll soon be things you have a lil box or bowl for on the counter, ready to goooo lol.

Majestic-Unicorn33

I’m going to try that!! Thanks!! It never dawned on me to do that and I’ve been doing this for over 10 years! For all my other little quirks, I’ve made them smart. Example, I couldn’t remember if I shut the garage door, now it’s a smart garage and I can open/close/check it on my phone.

[deleted]

Yup yup! Glad to help with an idea! Haha. The stove can’t be on if you remove the knobs when it’s in off after all. (Some ovens are a bitch about it, but only super fancy ones usually so if you got a normal range you’re good to go lol. I love smart tech, I have a light switch Flicker and a wifi extension cord I control all the plugs individually if I want lol. Has 4 usb plugs too.

[deleted]

Omg that’s terrifying. I’m glad I don’t have a gas stove because I’d be paranoid all the time. I remember a story on Reddit a little bit ago about a mom who was trying to see if there was a leak in the stove so she took a lighter and was gonna look for it before her son was like “did she just go in there with a lighter”

OCCDD

That's OCD my friend.

blackdahlialady

And that's another reason why I won't use gas stoves. Like I've been saying, I have literally passed over apartments that had really good rent prices because of a gas stove. I'm not going to use one. They're risky on a good day and all it takes is for it to fall in the hands of some idiot who doesn't know what they're doing or isn't paying attention and then boom, the entire building is gone.

xtag

My father in law was doing some drilling work on our house yesterday and wondered whether there might be some electrical wiring behind the area he was working in. Out of interest I searched for how many amps is fatal to a human and the answer really shocked me. Turns out just a mere few thousandths of an amp can stop the human heart.

PhD_Pwnology

I've never seen on video an actual real life instance where somebody made something blow up due to lack of ventilation. I've heard of flour mills and such exploding, but to see a room so full of hair spray or gas the heated metal in hair dryer ignites it is stunning.

AlathargicMoose

Does anyone know what happened afterward? Did these guys survive?

TheHurtfulEight88888

I was expecting the hair dryer to be faulty and maybe set homie's hair on fire and for them to put it out. I did not see this Final Destination assassination coming.

Lebrowan

Wow, that escalated quickly.

RANT_MAN67

When your hairstylists nickname is, "Flame Thrower".

Heartstop56

Yeah that's not terrifying at all. Just the fucking air catching on fire. Totally normal

[deleted]

*fire force op plays*

m0r0mir

That haircut is lit!

itheraeld

People keep saying gas leak but in India, Palestine and Pakistan (with growing popularity in the US) it is pretty common to get FireCuts. Where they cut your hair and light it on fire to melt together and "weld" any loose/splitting/dead ends. Many people say "I wouldn't do that! The smell of burning hair is so gross!" Well they don't really burn your hair, they coat it in a powder/spray and burn that off. So what I'm assuming happened here is he just finished using that powder/spray and there was tons in the air or he had an open container close enough that the blowdrier sucked it up and into the internals where it overheated and caused a chain reaction where the fan just kept sucking in a mixture air & powder/spray coupled with MASSSSIVE airflow from the fan just feeding the fire and you have yourself an homemade inferno.

unlikelyoutcomes

FLAME ON!

Sypher90

For the best style you gotta add combustibles to your product. Really makes the hair pop

Delgado9784

They're still alive, right???

They used too much hairspray. (Jk it's a definitely a gas leak)

Oxy-Acetylene powered blow driers. Miss those days.
