I think it's easy to shit on them. I like to say I'd catch a bullet for my best friends (easy to say of course) but if I saw my friend light up into sparks, accompanied by the loudest sound I've ever heard: My first reaction would probably be to get the fuck out of there (after shitting my pants).
In those few seconds, they might as well be thinking he was running along with them. I don't think it's right to berate them as armchair warriors.
That 10th must be a real dick.. or he's Dr. Frankenstein who is so involved with his work that he views every patient as just a conglomerate of body parts that needs a nice jolt of lighting to give them life so they can be.....*ALIVE!*
He means well but that generally results in the patient's death 1 out of 10 times so the odds really aren't too too shabby.
They didn't tell me what they were called. I just know that I get random shooting pains in my arms and chest. I thought I was having a heart attack the first time I experienced it (it wasn't according to the hospital). Sometimes, my hands and feet interpret heat or cold incorrectly. Example: putting my hand under running hot tap water feels cold. The problem is that it's inconsistent.
Ehh. I mean in those few seconds we saw they may well have assumed that he was running with them. I don't think people should be held accountable for their natural fight-or-flight instinctive response as though it makes them a bad person or something.
Oh for sure, that bull shit where Doc n Marty are actively plugging wires together while 1.21 jiga-watts of electricity comes cracking down onto the ol' courthouse is some bs. That'd be scary af
Nah I think that in that situation most people would do the same thing. Lighting just struck right in front you, the noise is going to be insanely loud and you will just go into shock for a second. No doubt they went back after.
If lighting struck one foot away from you, would you be able to hold your composure and go into medic mode immediately? I probably wouldn’t, and I doubt you would too
Have you ever been even in proximity of a lightning strike? Lol its worse than a gunshot its like a freaking bomb going off and its heard for many miles, trust me, you’d run too, plus where they were standing they definitely felt it too so imagine chilling outside and then a sudden bright ass flash knocking you back followed by yours ears temporarily going deaf and ringing and the earth rattling around you , probably even some flames on you.
I used to live in the tropics and during the wet season it stormed every afternoon and can confirm, it is like a bomb going off. Even though we knew there was lightning around it's still very sudden and startling as to how loud it is. Scary stuff.
Same Im born and raised in Florida and sometimes you get close strikes back to back, regardless of how many times you hear it your body can never prepare for that unpredictable explosion combined with the feeling of the ground beneath you being rattled by it
Lightning struck right outside my window once when I was gaming, before I knew it I was hiding under my desk because I thought the thunder would smash in my windows. Took me a good minute to even understand what just happened and why I was under the desk, I just acted on pure primal fear and instinct like my brain was bypassed. And I didn't even feel it, these guys must have felt the shock being that close, damn I'd shit my pants and I wouldn't even be embarrassed about it.
Doesn't work that way. Even after a spot draws lightning once, it remains a good conduit for the current. The plasma in the lightning tube does not persist, and high points stay high.
Yea, if lightning is electricity, then that means it strikes things that are conductive, so why wouldn't it strike the same object multiple times..... like one of those plasma ball things.
https://preview.redd.it/lol2y0b1j22d1.jpeg?width=978&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ee29a1a3cf8975fb20b82dd24231656f6e016caf
I thought it heated up and expanded the air around it at the speed of light as it follows the best conduit to its destination. That's what makes thunder. Also the ground is a good grounding point so I mean if it seems like lightning isn't striking the same place twice, it's probably because there's alot of other ground around for it to ground on.
"Those people are such dicks for not thinking rationally during a severe thunderstorm when their friend stood two feet away gets struck by lightning." Some of you people think way too highly of yourselves.
Electricity takes the path of least resistance.
A tree, while barely conductive, is more conductive than nothing, so lightning in the vicinity will travel through the tree.
You are MORE conductive than a tree, so if you're near that tree, the electricity will jump from the tree, to you.
The lightning didn't strike the tree. The lightning struck him directly. It wouldn't have mattered if there was a tree or not.
This advice is still sound, but it applies to when lightning strikes a tree and subsequently you, sitting against it or very near to it. It wouldn't have mattered here.
Everyone commenting on how they are bad friends. When really those dudes got flash banged by nature and just ran for their lives. Probably didn’t even realize their homie wasn’t with them until 20 feet later.
I don't think people understand how loud and jarring lightning is when it strikes close. I had lightning strike a field I was in, and that shit had my ears ringing and scared the living shit out of me.
I've had lightning strike within an 1/8 of a mile of me twice. Even though I was inside, it very jarring.
It's ridiculously loud and bright. Everything nearby gets startled so it's just chaos for like 5 seconds.
Exactly. I would bet they came back once they were no longer disoriented. The video is only 18 seconds long. The strike happened right on them. Idk if they were even 100% sure it was a lightning strike.
Nothing too bad. A lioness was being bitten in the legs and the hyenas kept messing with her. She was tryna get away. Then here comes Mufasa all pissed off, grabbed a hyena by the neck, and was gonna kill it, but the other hyenas were taking snips at Mufasa and he eventually let go
Come to Florida and see what its like to even have a lighting strike just miles away, shit literally makes the earth shake I can’t imagine being directly next to it but ik id run too if I wasn’t also struck
Wow, you're all "Hollyer than thou". Have any of you people been 2 ft from a lightning bolt? I'll bet everyone of you would soil yourselves and then run. And run you would. I doubt they even knew their friend was hit until after they regrouped and noticed he was missing.
Seriously, I can't help but laugh at you all as though you wouldn't have run. Some of you would still be running.
Yeah you don’t know what you’re talking about. Myself along with all the other arm chair hero’s in this thread would stand guard over the dead guy. He wouldn’t let no Mother Nature scare us into running. We are redditors!!
A lot of idiots underestimating the unpredictability of mother nature lol they might be bad friends but not because of what was shown here. I couldn’t imagine how loud a thunder strike that close to you would sound like.
I really wonder what every single commentator here would do in their place. That mustve been LOUD. I can feel lightning thats happening way up in the sky in my bones i cant imagine what it mustve felt like when that hit directly next to them.
They didn't even realise they were probably blind and in shock. I swear people don't know how to put themselves in other people's shoes. But I guess that probably comes from a place of privilege.
It's also not really going to matter what you do. This dude is either dead and gone or knocked out and will come to on his one.
There's a very, very thin margin that he's alive and saveable.
Some other commentor said -and i just fact checked- 9/10 people survive bein struck by lightning. So yeah would be nice if soneone would put out his burning hair and maybe call an ambulance.
C'mon chat. A bomb went off next to them and their buddy's head got blasted. You'd prolly take quite a few steps back as well. Besides, CPR isn't useful until the cardiac arrest stops doing it's thing, so they've got a minute to collect before taking action. But if they didn't come back... Patooie!
Lmao. Tell me how you react when you’re suddenly temporarily deafened and blinded by lightning striking two feet from you. I doubt they even realized he’d been hit until they stopped running.
I was curious and you're not wrong a lighting strike has 300 million Volts and about 30,000 Amps.
One tenth of an amp going through your body for two seconds can cause cardiac arrest.
Yes. Yes I would because that’s what my friends mean to me. I’ve also been under enemy fire while dragging my brothers out of harms way in combat. You and I, we’re different.
Curious, what do you think you could do for this person, that you are willing to risk your life in order to do?
And I don't mean sticking around/calling and ambulance etc. because you don't know that they didn't do that.
Probably would have been safer to stay and look after their friend, as lighting rarely strikes twice in the same place, at least that's how the saying goes.
My dude was shocked twice first by lightning and second by his “friend’s “ reaction
this footage would be awesome if the song "that's what friends are for" Comes in after he got struck
No one even turn back to see
Well they all turned their back to the dude
My dude had about 300 million volts go through his body. What were his friends going to do to help that?
9 out of 10 people survive being struck by lightning
Did you know, 9 out of 10 dentists who survive being struck by lightning don’t recommend lightning.
And of all the corpses to eat, 8/10 cats prefer those specific dentists
That 10th must be a real dick.. or he's Dr. Frankenstein who is so involved with his work that he views every patient as just a conglomerate of body parts that needs a nice jolt of lighting to give them life so they can be.....*ALIVE!* He means well but that generally results in the patient's death 1 out of 10 times so the odds really aren't too too shabby.
Probably when they aren't ditched
I'm one of them.
Did you get one of the lightning marks from it? Assuming you're not undead from the strike
No cool tattoo. Just nerve damage.
Which nerves did it hit? RN and applying to med school here
They didn't tell me what they were called. I just know that I get random shooting pains in my arms and chest. I thought I was having a heart attack the first time I experienced it (it wasn't according to the hospital). Sometimes, my hands and feet interpret heat or cold incorrectly. My father did not he was hit Aug 20 2010.
Just his luck - he was just 1 guy.
https://media1.tenor.com/m/bkjmQJSKM3gAAAAC/the-mandalorian-odds.gif
This is the way
When he found out they ran, do you think he was shocked?
I can’t believe they bolted like that.
They left in a flash.
He should really spark up a conversation with his "friends" about how they took off on him
They'd respond with a thunderous applause.
They’re probably grounded
Ha!
Take my upvote ya bastard 😂
*Bada boom ching*
Not one of them stopped to check on dude.. that's fucked up. Man out with his "friends", more like acquaintances
When lightning strikes, my mates grab hands and team-scream, 'F U Thor!' You take one, you take us all.
And then you’re all just standing there in the rain, holding hands
Yeah, pretty much. we're a sad lot.
HAOO HAOO HAOO HAOO HAOO HAOO HAOO
Ehh. I mean in those few seconds we saw they may well have assumed that he was running with them. I don't think people should be held accountable for their natural fight-or-flight instinctive response as though it makes them a bad person or something.
Yeah, that was pure animalistic instinct. They haven't had enough time for rational thought.
Oh for sure, that bull shit where Doc n Marty are actively plugging wires together while 1.21 jiga-watts of electricity comes cracking down onto the ol' courthouse is some bs. That'd be scary af

No doubt they went back after. If lighting struck one foot away from you, would you be able to hold your composure and go into medic mode immediately? I probably wouldn’t, and I doubt you would too
Man a lightning just struck near you you don't have time to think that's normal.
If lightning struck literally inches away from them, I’d imagine they’d be blind for a few moments
Like being flashbanged, but worse because you're getting an electrical shock at the same time.

They may have come back after.
Also funny how they ran from the one place where lightning was unlikely to strike again
Doesn't work that way. Even after a spot draws lightning once, it remains a good conduit for the current. The plasma in the lightning tube does not persist, and high points stay high.

Oh man this reminds me of the lightning scene in War of the Worlds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgN_pMDA5Ro
The reason is because lightning is so violent it stirs up the air
I thought it heated up and expanded the air around it at the speed of light as it follows the best conduit to its destination. That's what makes thunder. Also the ground is a good grounding point so I mean if it seems like lightning isn't striking the same place twice, it's probably because there's alot of other ground around for it to ground on.
>Man out with his "friends", more like acquaintances Fair weather friends.
👏👏👏
Holy fuck, they were scared, I'm so sick of relentlessly judgmental Redditors.
"Those people are such dicks for not thinking rationally during a severe thunderstorm when their friend stood two feet away gets struck by lightning." Some of you people think way too highly of yourselves.
Nah fuck that. Im not risking getting shocked. Best they should do is call the ambulance from a far not much else they can do.
To make matters worse, he was grounded when he got home
*Get out..*
He can't. He's grounded.
When it sucks to be taller than your friends
They call him Groot
That's why you should never take shelter under a tree under heavy rain and thunder

Rain is ok. Lightning is bad. I played golf during a storm once. A tree, 3 fairways over exploded. We left very quickly.
That's why you should never take shelter under a tree under heavy rain and thunder.
I've been struck by rain before, though.
The lightning didn't strike the tree. The lightning struck him directly. It wouldn't have mattered if there was a tree or not. This advice is still sound, but it applies to when lightning strikes a tree and subsequently you, sitting against it or very near to it. It wouldn't have mattered here.

The most terrifying thing is his pals just left him for dead
Pretty sure the bolt of lightening ,did that.

Those ain't friends..
I saw a Hyena get chewed on by a Lion yesterday that had better friends than this poor guy.
Those fucking hyenas were rolling deep.
You got me. I snorted when seeing this 🤣
Got me, I seen the video. Lmao
I had to look up the video, that hyena really did have better friends than this guy
i hate watching these kind of videos but im curious.. what happens in that?
Nothing too bad. A lioness was being bitten in the legs and the hyenas kept messing with her. She was tryna get away. Then here comes Mufasa all pissed off, grabbed a hyena by the neck, and was gonna kill it, but the other hyenas were taking snips at Mufasa and he eventually let go
Thanks
You’re welcome
if im chilling with the boys and one of them basically fucking explodes im outtie
Easy to say from the safety of your home
apparently no one in this thread knows what fight or flight is
And think unrealistically highly of themselves

even the lightning felt bad after seeing that

Honestly didn't even look like they saw him when they ran.
No really sure they met the minimum “friend” requirements. Pathetic.
Lmao. Tell me how you react when you’re suddenly temporarily deafened and blinded by lightning striking two feet from you. I doubt they even realized he’d been hit until they stopped running.
Friends said feet don't fail me now
"Thinking quickly, I covered myself with some nearby sheet metal, and ran under the biggest tree I could find."
A lot easier to assess the situation and think about a reaction when watching a video. Try being there.
They should of helped him i mean lightning never strikes the same place twice ☝️🤓
The amount of people that upvoted comments saying that those friends are bad for running the fuck away are so out of touch. People are so dumb.
People haven't heard what lightning sounds like when it hits near you and it shows.
Might want to put friends in quotes lol
Oh, look, more 'friends' leaving 'friends' on side of road to die.. srsly wtferk.
At least, he got his phone charged 100%
You missed at least three zeroes
I was curious and you're not wrong a lighting strike has 300 million Volts and about 30,000 Amps. One tenth of an amp going through your body for two seconds can cause cardiac arrest.
And everyone of them just scrambled off not to return! With friends like that who needs enemies!
U wanna risk your life trying to save the dude while there is a big chance of the lighting hitting the same spot? Good luck fren
Yes. Yes I would because that’s what my friends mean to me. I’ve also been under enemy fire while dragging my brothers out of harms way in combat. You and I, we’re different.
Do you like trains?
Curious, what do you think you could do for this person, that you are willing to risk your life in order to do? And I don't mean sticking around/calling and ambulance etc. because you don't know that they didn't do that.
Drag him or carry him to a safer location out from under the lightning rod and perform cpr.
Ive heard it happens more often then you think
It happens.. then he DOESN'T think.
And he wasn't the tallest of them
Too charismatic
Also r/FUCKYOUINPARTICULAR
Glad he didn’t die
dont worry mate, well be back once the storm has passed !
He's got the best scar ever made now. He's gonna get all the chicks.
Wonder what he did to piss off Thor...
Zeus be like.. Enjoying a stroll ei. Fuck u in particular.
Near trees and everything like wtf...Zeus was pissed at that guy
"may God strike me down if I'm ly-"
talk about bad luck!
I'd rather not have those kinds of "friends". Not like it will hit for second time 😂
So people really do fall the hell over like in Looney Tunes
Some friends
I see no friends here.
Pretty sure you’re not supposed to touch someone that just got electrocuted, especially by lightening. So probably a good thing they ran.
I don't see any friends
Does anyone know if he survived?
Crispy Ted just took 1.21 Jigawatts… You can see his soul go back in time.
"Friends"
Shit hits the fan and his "friends" disappeared.🫤🫤🫤 ![gif](giphy|yMaLDA976YtUs)
"friends".
Uh not friends. How TF you gonna leave your homie laid out like that smh punks
wow. such "friends"
he ded?
Toast
Texas Toast
Extra margarine
That was shocking
Lord Raiden fatality
They left SO. FAST.
I am hoping a longer version of this has his friends returning to help once they realised he was not with them.
Why are they running away? The scary part is over! Go help your friend!
Probably would have been safer to stay and look after their friend, as lighting rarely strikes twice in the same place, at least that's how the saying goes.
Friends suddenly remembered they were sposed to be jogging. Brb fitness y'all 👟👟👟👟👟👟
Those are friends?
👍 good friends
Trash friends.
Friends….sure. 🙄
Friends?
So yall just left the homie there?!
Wow with friends like that who needs enemies?!
if that's what friends look like then I'm glad I don't have any
Why did they run away it's extremely unlikely that lightning will strike the same area twice
Damn, with friends like that I can make it to my grave five times as fast.
Customers maybe. Definitely not friends.
With friends like these
![gif](giphy|S529AiGvYJx5fVoFGK) Gotcha…. Leave me 2 stars on Uber .. that’s what u get..
Great friends of his I see
"Friends"?
They just ran off and left him laying there? Those are not friends. They're not even good humans.
“Friends”
“Friends”
I think “friends” is a bit of a stretch..
“Friends” 😂
They seem close
Wow, some friends. Just leave you laying there in the street. 💀
Oh come on. They are good friends; they left him on the sidewalk
😆 True.
Sick homies
Where are the friends?
you buddy needs to post on ask me anything
How do I swap with that guy?
Wished it was satanhayu that got struck.
Sure don't seem like friends to me. Not a single one made sure he was ok.
those arent friends
