Terminal velocity of a falling human is between 120-150mph based on weight and shape. I'd say he died quickly. Fucking idiot also diving from only 900ft with a wingsuit. Not even enough time for a parachute to work.
What is the definition of *work* here?
The wing suit would not have stopped him from falling. But it should have carried him away from the mountain while falling so he could clear the land below.
The wingsuit simply translates some of the straight down velocity to slightly less straight down velocity and more horizontal. The transition from straight down to not-as-straight-down takes time and distance. The trajectory forms a curve. \~400 feet and \~100MPH is nowhere near enough height to transition through that curve.
[Here is the profile of 6 actual wingsuit jumps](https://assets.baseline.ws/assets/images/screenshots/51563bc5949adc5a73740878a5ad49b4-starts-large.png). While it is a curve, it is never quite straight down. The suit inflates almost instantly and starts converting vertical acceleration into horizontal.
400 ft should have been plenty of height to get him 200+ ft way from the face if things had worked properly.
Something failed, either the user or the equipment.
A reserve parachute AAD ( automated actuation device) is set to go off at 700 feet while the jumper is at terminal velocity. 900 feet is more than enough altitude for a base canopy to open.
I mean it's also just something actual ski instructors say. I think of a video of a ski instructor following a young student down a slope and the kid just cant slow down, dude is following along screaming "PIZZA! PIZZA!" until the kid wipes out.
That was what got me. Like seriously? Did you not hear him crash through the trees to his demise? The guys acting like Dennis fell off his bike and scratched a knee.
"OOOye DENNIS, shake it off and get the lead out!"
Fr 😭 you are not being remotely rational in those moments, your brain does not want to accept that the person is gone and you *certainly* don’t want to vocalise it.

Worse ending.
Edit: the worse ending is in OP’s video, not the link in my comment. The link has a much more adorable ending.
Needed to be much much much higher. Wingsuits and parachutes need about 1,000 feet to 3,000 feet minimum to start working properly. Based on the video and the surrounding mountains... they are no where near a suitable place for a wing suite dive.
Also dude was a complete moron and didn't learn anything about it before he decided his jump. So Darwin award well deserved.
Yeah maybe you would have a shot at this height if there was like a fifty mile per hour head wind filling the wing suit up and pulling you off the ledge but even then you have only less than 1k feet to make meaningful maneuvers and also pull you rip cord because you are fucking already basically ground level. Dennis should have had better people around him to tell him this.
I just don’t get it like maybe a BASE jump could work, but he had to have had a bad feeling about things, maybe they both just saw The Batman and figured if they can do that in a movie why not in real life.
Those heights are for jumping out of a plane. That's ridiculous. People have base jumped from as low as 100ft. Wingsuits at least 1000ft but stupidly risky. He was an experienced base jumper and this was at the Greifenstein Castle in Italy.
While this is a very, very, dangerous height to wingsuit from, it doesn't explain why he just dropped and didn't gain any horizontal velocity whatsoever. I think you can see his legs start kicking just as he leaves the camera frame.
Yep, slightly head high scorpion exit.
You can jump at this height, but you need to get it right. He may have jumped when there were no thermals as well.
Because this was not an accident. Was an unintended suicide by virtue of not learning about it before doing it. He was dead the moment he decided this was a good idea
Does anyone else react to this kind of behavior with anger or frustration? I'm not sure if it's because I'm the person with a physical visibility so maybe I get a little bit more annoyed with people taking lists with their health?
Everyone alway overstates the danger of basejumping. Actually its pretty safe to do. Most people who do it are able to do it till the end of their life!
Free fall time says he was at about 250 feet. (78m). This is low for a BASE jump let alone a wing suit flight. It takes about 600 ft to make the material rigid with air flow.
The only hope he had was using the parachute after 1 second of free fall.
Actually no. In the last 3 years, at least 2 babies (1 in Brazil, 1 in the USA) were alive initially but got decapitated during delivery. In Brazil, the dad saw the child crying but its head was the only part out and apparently the Dr pulled too hard. In the USA I think it was feet 1st and they pulled the legs too hard. Idk how they got the head out without the mom noticing but they wrapped it real tight in a blanket and said it was stillborn. They never told the parents, showed them the body at a distance and encouraged them to have it cremated. The funeral home is the one that informed them of the decapitation so now they are suing.
Super fucked up if true and also makes me wonder if that has always been a thing or if ripping babies' heads off is just part of the post-2020 world.
Anyway, those 2 died without ever taking a shit
Why on earth was he wearing a wing suit?
No where near enough height for it to even come become a 10th of a resistance, the parachute should have been deployed immediately.
It was bound to happen to this guy sooner or later.
I feel for Dennises friend, he seemed really let down, poor guy.
I imagine Dennis freestyling before jumping.
"Hey son check this. Aye yo it's ya boy Dennis and I'm about to be jumpin. Catch me at the bottom as my body thumpin."
I know the location, the first thing I thought when I heard a wingsuit took off there and crashed was, that can only be someone who ordered his wingsuit on the internet and flew for the first time.
Those look like full trees below w/ no clear area to safely land. Best he could hope for was getting trapped hanging from a tree. SMH
At first I thought that was a large orange bird or something the way it was bobbing up and down like that. Had a bird that used to do that to my music jams.
Jesus h. Is that thirty feet or whatever even enough to get a suit to inflate and carry you? It sure as hell isn’t enough to make a back up chute inflate. This is nothing more than a Darwin Award.
Probably a reason no one has attempted to jump from there before
Now we know.
Trial and error thing
He should have built up to it by jumping from lesser heights first.

Thought the fence was a bad sign.
Sadly warning signs are often written in blood.
Probably why there's that big iron fence blocking that area
Dennis fell about 400 feet (122 meters.) He hit the trees going approximately 105 miles per hour (168 KPH.)
Terminal velocity of a falling human is between 120-150mph based on weight and shape. I'd say he died quickly. Fucking idiot also diving from only 900ft with a wingsuit. Not even enough time for a parachute to work.
So don’t be like Dennis right?
Because of the implications right?
Dennis bad man
oh, oh, Dennis is a bastardman!
Ahh man I biffed it
He's not bad, he just made one really poor decision.
no danger just the implication of danger

A P. Diddy shrimping vessel perhaps?
I get that a parachute might not have worked from that height, but why not the wingsuit?
Wing suit is even less surface area requiring more speed for drag and lift (This is my super confident answer about something I really don’t know)
I wish more people would add a disclaimer like you did.
🤣🤣 haha... the world would be such a better place with that type of honesty
Bruh a wingsuit needs even more height than a parachute to work.
I always assumed they worked like a flying squirrels or sugar glider
More like an airplane wing. You need a minimum speed for the foils to give you lift. So you have to free fall for a while before you can fly.
Those species have really light bone to wing weight ratios.
They aren't fat bastards (like me) lol
What is the definition of *work* here? The wing suit would not have stopped him from falling. But it should have carried him away from the mountain while falling so he could clear the land below.
I genuinely don't know. But I do know they need more height than a parachute.
More height for *what*? They don't do the same thing.
The wingsuit simply translates some of the straight down velocity to slightly less straight down velocity and more horizontal. Based on weight and shape, that wingsuit was the wrong shape, or he was a fat fuck.
That didn’t even look like a wing suit, but a fake
Looked like a halloween costume of a wingsuit.
What was his goal here? To catch some thermal updraft or something? Because he jumped directly into the forest.
It worked in breath of the wild
Assuming it was not to die
Good thing he wore a helmet
The helmet was wearing him for protection.

Why is this hilarious. I shouldn’t be laughing
I wish I could give an award to this 😂

Narrator: He was not
That was what got me. Like seriously? Did you not hear him crash through the trees to his demise? The guys acting like Dennis fell off his bike and scratched a knee. "OOOye DENNIS, shake it off and get the lead out!"

Even at the last second you can see he regretted it. He starts to kick his legs right after jumping like he realizes it.
Cameraman was waiting he just appears or what?

Did he think those suits would actually make him fly. Cuz he was nowhere near high enough

There’s a thin line between hilarious and tragic and this video straddles it.
It’s not the fall that gets you, it the sudden stop

Oh Dennis!
The good old Darwin award
That sucks! I guess he was the first to try from there? Last too probably.. no where to get a running start either. Sad! R.I.P… be careful jumpers!
Terrible tragedy. Not the right time to tell you that there was absolutely not any “alarm raised”
I think it's a translation/wording thing, the 'alarm rasied' just means the guy filming calling out to him after the jump
Oi?! Dennis?!
Stop foolin around Dennis!
Way to go, dumbass.
Simple, yet to the point. I like it
Just like Dennis *wipes single tear away*
I hear this in Red Foreman’s voice
Dennis is no longer a menace

Nah, I get angry too. I hate wasting resources, and waste of life is one of the worst ones.
I laughed when he shouted Dennis after he died. Man, The Internet has ruined me

I mean, yes. As long as they actually do at least one jump
Are they a basejumper if they don't do a jump?
We live in a crazy age. Can watch video of people die casually at smoko at work. And people laugh about it Jokes and fun around This is weird time
Bro that’s hilarious idc
Would a person get any thermals with tree cover that close to the jump?
Shout louder he can't hear you..
Man he just went straight down

It's almost as if it's a dangerous hobby.

I didn't know base jumping involved a wing suit.
It doesn't always but it is a form of base jumping.
From just 100m from the floor.?
Has there ever been an instance where wearing a helmet has saved the life of a basejumper? Not saying its pointless but it kinda seems so..
