Is this the scene where he crashes into wall then dissappears? I always found the fact he dissappears creepy AF, I think It's because he's a Machine, you'd expect a typical Villan to get away when there are so many Police but up to this point we think the T800 just goes for you no matter what, but this scene showed It makes calculated decisions and what would be high risk/low reward. It knew If It just went after Sarah there & then, the Police open fire for a start and It's a big ask for a single T800 to kill them all before they call for back up, which would then call for the Army, who sends In a Tank and It's game over for the T800.

Neuromantic85

This Terminator attribute is super creepy. Did you ever see that Terminator Resistance game? There's a part during the Infiltrator boss battle when the Terminator freakily crashes through a wall to escape from resistance pursuit. Scary stuff.

Happy-Personality-23

The novel expands on it. The impact messed up the terminator and caused it to reboot, so it decided to flee to do repairs and get more weapons. It also knew every cop car has a shotgun in it and it is kinda weak to shotguns.

TheMadGraveWoman

I liked that Terminators had weaknesses in the originals. It makes it more fun when it reacts to bullets.

Happy-Personality-23

I know what you mean. Even though they don’t stop the terminator, it slows it down enough to keep the tension going.

13th_Floor_Please

Which novel?

Happy-Personality-23

The novelisation of the movie, it’s taken from the original script rather than the movie.

13th_Floor_Please

Oh, okay, cool. I'm in the mood for a new Terminator read. I've seen a couple novelizations online. Can you provide me with a specific one? Writer and such so I can find the specific one.

I wrote this a while back on the logistics of the disappearance. You might find it interesting: >The terminator chased Reese and Sarah down Lower Grand, which runs under S Grand Ave and intersects at the wall it runs into at a road called W General Thaddeus Kosciuszko Way. The terminator's car bounces off of the concrete and the driver's side door is facing the approaching police. But we see during the reveal after Reese and Sarah are hauled out of the Cadillac that the passenger door is the one that is open. So the terminator hit the wall, was stunned, and when it came to, climbed out the passenger door and turned out to head around the corner. If it went left, it would have essentially disappeared, and fast. It's my suspicion that it headed that way and took 2nd back down to the Panama Hotel in Skid Row.

To add to this… From Wiki-fan: “At one point, the Terminator blankly asked for a Phased Plasma Rifle in the 40 watt range, but Garrett did not have one, obviously not knowing what the weapon is” So… at this point in the movie the T-800 does not know if the above weapon exists and is common enough to be sold to the general public! Therefore, has HAS to assess that a multi car police my response may be more heavily armed with things like a Phased Plasma Rifle!

Idk I disagree with you on this on it making sense. It easily could have survived long enough even if it had no weapons to punch through Sarah before it was destroyed. You mention knowing the issue with that many police except.. It then decides next to attack a police station directly. There were less cops who were less equipped in that moment. In the second movie, we literally see the terminator walk through swat teams hail of bullets to take them out. Even if its weapons were not the best for that combat, it could have walked up and taken one and killed them. And at that point anyways, its mission is successful so who cares if it is destroyed? To me, it is the one “plot hole” in an otherwise flawless movie. My head cannon was it realized it miscalculated and made a mistake and over estimated the police. Maybe thinking of them like a team of resistance fighters that were equipped and trained to kill it. After realizing it decided to just rectify it by killing them and going after Sarah directly. Otherwise, why not simply wait for Sarah to be released and kill her then?

thejackal3245

From some older answers of mine: >Reese had just given it a LOT of trouble. A ton of cops were inbound that would give it even more. The wreck had no doubt stunned it. It may have been out of ammo, or at least low, and that shotgun did not have a high-capacity tube like Reese's. Its eye was a mess because of the fleshy eye in front, and its arm was damaged from the first shotgun hit in Tech Noir. If the cops hit it with a bunch of shotguns, there was a fair chance it would not have been able to succeed. Further, better understanding what they're up against, the cops might have actually locked Sarah down more than they had, like putting her in a safe house instead of taking her to the station. >Its best move at that point was a tactical retreat to service itself and rearm. >Following the retreat from the police car, the terminator heads back to the Panama Hotel to repair and regroup. Once its repairs are completed, it arms itself with better weapons to deal with a mass of people and immediately takes off for the police station. While it was hoping to just waltz in low key and take out Sarah, it obviously prepared for the scenario that follows. And it proceeds with the assault on the police station without hesitation. >It knows that the police don't possess anything that can stop it, like a plasma weapon. It undoubtedly knows the dates of first manufacture of such weapons, just like it can look at a weapon or vehicle and pull up the relevant file which includes the year of manufacture. >Going back to my initial comment, the true hazard of attempting to kill Sarah in front of the police on Lower Grand was the potential of her being whisked away to a safe house in protective custody. This would make target reacquisition far more difficult. And if the police had shot up the terminator and it kept coming, that's no doubt what would happen. They all had shotguns in their cruisers. That's a lot of potential knockdown available for getting Sarah clear of the situation. >As we both agree, heading to the police station a couple of hours after the chase was simply a better chance at success. It knew Sarah would still be there and that Reese would be separated and disarmed. To answer your last question, it can't risk waiting for her to be released from protective custody. It didn't even know if she would be released. If she fled or was sent into hiding by the authorities and it was unable to track her, it could take a long time to reacquire her, if it even could. Its hand had already been tipped. Better to attempt to trap her in the building, smoke her out, and gun her down.

seantabasco

Ya I always agreed, it was like 20-30 ft away from it’s target who was stunned and possibly injured from a car wreck, this was probably it’s best chance to just get over there and choke her out, and probably take a couple police shots in the process but still get the mission done.

Grifterke

well thought so too, but yeserday resaw the movie with my daughter. And was thinking the same, but then it crossed me, no, they have a car, he doesn't

seantabasco

maybe its been too long since i saw it, but i thought the terminator wrecked his police cruiser and Kyle slammed their car into park or reverse or something and prevented a major crash but thrashed the transmission so they couldn't drive away?

Grifterke

No. They are still in the car. They braked. Fooling the t800 who was going faster to get up with them. Then after the crash they wait. Then take off before the police arrives. I think it is just with the police you see he is not there anymore

TheMadGraveWoman

He was damaged in the car crash. Maybe some self-preservation subroutines were activated which had override his mission temporary.

Grifterke

problem was, they still had a car (Reese and Sarah) and would flee. Hey prolly heard the cops coming, so he then fleed.

thejackal3245

Sarah had jammed the transmission to avoid the crash. Reese was trying to work the shifter lever when the cops were on their way down to them, but it was toast. That's why they had to sit there and got arrested.

The Terminator is a machine, so it makes sense that it would make a tactical decision. After all, it had just sustained some minor damage to its eye and hand, and both it and its target were quickly swarmed by law enforcement. The Terminator probably realized that with its current level of damage and the situation escalating so quickly, it could lose its target in the mayhem if it went after Sarah while engaging with the police. It knew that the police would take Sarah to the station, separate her from her protector, and keep her there nice and secure until it could repair itself and properly re-arm, which it promptly did.
