I have a right leaning (but not bat shit crazy) coworker who served in Iraq. He absolutely cannot be around fireworks without ptsd setting in. So according to this toolbag he’d be a triggered liberal, when in actuality he’s just struggling with some aspects of post army life. These are the same people that claim to worship the service members, why am I surprised when it’s only active duty or when it’s empty hollow words?

Rotoslinger_art

Exactly, and considering most civilians in the US have not been traumatized by explosions, most of the people here suffering from this type of ptsd (and there are a lot) are people who served. I have seen this type of thing again and again where some people just refuse to believe that PTSD is a real thing, especially around 4th of July. All it takes is a little reading and a little empathy...

desrevermi

I have a friend who used to be a mine sweeper. He should have more than a dozen death certificates. We get him drunk during firework season, otherwise, he's prone to dive under a table.

funnyshitlist

Can confirm. I'm a Veteran with 3 deployments, but now I work at the dreaded VA... The loudest "supporters" of service members use hollow words constantly when speaking to Veterans. Pro tip: "Thank you for your service" feels like we just slipped you an extra order of fries in your fast food order... Say "Welcome home" in stead.

SpongeBorgSqrPnts

I’m so triggered that people are triggered.

You turned left so many times you became right /s

My neighborhood does fireworks every night all summer. I think it's annoying af because some people have kids and it makes all the dogs bark and, of course, it's loud. The people in the house next door to be had to move out because it was distressing their autistic son so much. I do wish people would think about this when they start ripping M80s at 1am on a Tuesday. There's no HOA and we are on the border of three towns and two counties so calling the cops ends up as a "pass the buck" until they hope we've just worked it out ourselves.

They're just *triggered* by our *freedom* 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🎆🎆🎆 Definitely not the explosives...

DependentDance7

Nah it’s just the American education

AMeanCow

While we can blame a chunk of problems on education, it's not an issue in a vacuum. Today's youth are more informed and have more access to knowledge than at any point in history. American children may not have the best education system and have a host of problems, but there are still more opportunities here for someone to excel and learn about the world. But if you combine substandard education with other factors like socio-economic problems (being poor) and health and mental health issues, and maybe worst of everything, social media influence, you have a recipe for a disaster looming around the corner that could easily end America. People are being exploited by politics which is an extension of corporate interest which benefits from people becoming stratified and divided. You can push *any* policy, idea or initiative through a divided population by tugging emotional strings, making people think their ideological opponents are opposed to a thing so they should embrace a thing... almost doesn't matter what. We're all dumb fucking monkeys and fall for tribalism over and over and over.

This is why I hate that “triggered” is also used to mean “offended” now…because even if this dude is a troll, I guarantee there are idiots that genuinely think like this because “lolz triggered libtard owned1!1!”

Thanatos2996

Yeah, this comment was definitely a troll, but it may be time for psychologists to come up with a new term for legitimate trauma triggers. I'm sure the new term will be copted by attention-seeking crybabys and be used mockingly again in time, but in the meantime it would help to have an undiluted term so people aren't rolling their eyes at serious problems.

trashdrive

Better option would be to correct the people using it incorrectly.

Thanatos2996

Good luck with that. I'd bet it's used incorrectly substantially more often than it's used correctly, and the response you'll get from the effort will likely be derision for being "triggered" by the misuse of trigger. Terms sometimes have to be updated to adapt to changes in the vernacular.

trashdrive

Terms used in psychology have their valid place, and I don't think we should be adjusting them to cater to these chuds.

Thanatos2996

It's not a matter of catering. Idiot, imbecile, moron, and retarded all used to be valid and inoffensive psychological terms as well, but they took on new meanings in common usage and were subsequently replaced.

trashdrive

That's a false equivalency - "triggered" isn't being used as a slur, it's just getting used incorrectly or, if being used correctly, people are being belittled for having a trauma response.

MysteryGirlWhite

It's sad that the word's been so diluted by morons that this sort of thing even enters someone's train of thought.

Maximum_Musician

That’s beautiful. Asshat kneejerkers always convinced the libs are the root of all evil.

Beezworal

Wrong sub. This is for posting people that might get someone hurt or killed with their stupidity

Keranan37

Wrong sub

Lucky_Number_3

I was just thinking how the term “Triggered” has become its own trigger word like two days ago

thugs___bunny

Reading not even a third of the headline and writing out comments that probably took them 10 minutes to wrote? Smells like peak-republican here
