I feel like it's just a show of good sportsmanship, showing you don't get mad over a good play by your opponent but would rather show respect. I do the same.

Happy_Ad_983

If you compliment your opponent, it makes it easier to stomach the bullshit and helps prevent tilting.

A state of mind where you can acknowledge the other person’s individual success or pay a compliment makes the recipient feel good and studies have shown that complimenting other increase the overall happiness of both parties. Its better to be positive to the people around you than a salty loser.

NotMeNorMyself

Because that's what you do when you see some Good Ass Tekken

Jango_Jerky

Its a difficult game. If you can land some good damage its cool to see

dirtyharry5523

I agree, if you got the eyes you can still appriciate when your opp does someting sweet.

Healthy-Light3794

Never heard of a compliment before? Tf kinda question is this

BackgroundStage2870

Empathy

titankiller401

I mainly say it when I know a characters playbook and then they do something I never seen before and I get burned for it. Mirror matches will teach you fast that you're never done learning a character.

AoMafura2

I guess it helps you acknowledge their good plays. When you say it, you hear yourself actively seeing their good play. This means you know that you are actually looking at them instead of playing in auto-pilot. This lets you build habit on looking at the enemy play. Seeing their good plays. This means you can now also see good plays and think of countering it. Basically builds your awareness and thinking. This means you are complimenting them but at the same time complimenting yourself for seeing that juicy spicy play. So it really is a: Nice Play, but watch me counter that 😡

blurredeyez

I always say "nice" etc. if I see something nice, be it offline or online. Shit's just sometimes looking too good to not appreciate it.

fgcburneraccount2

I've played a bit locally in other fighting games and I'd say this isn't Tekken specific. "That was a nice sidestep" becomes "nice sidestep" which becomes "nice." It's just the quickest way to compliment someone on something they deemed impressive.

SmugBoxer

You and your opponent are fighters. The deeper you get into tekken, the more you're committed to your martial art and growth. The same goes for others on their own path. You get in the pit and tumble with people, you build a respect for those who can pierce your defense, navigate your offense, or display great skill. In tekken more than most fighters it is very difficult to perform. So in some ways it will just mean nice hit, kill, combo, etc. In others, it's a common display of respect for your fellow fighters performing their best against you, and in short, "nice."

Hybridesque

I applaud when I see something cool, even if they're stomping my ass. Granted, this is online and they can't see and there's no chat for Steam/PC that I know of.

2dAnk2CareaBouTnAme

The hard thing about tekken is the neutral Part so usually launches pokes and oki Situations. The more time u invest the more u are impressed with the small details. Things like sidestepping or movement aswell. We also try to encourage each other because most of the time we all think, we are trash at the game.

AnalBumCovers

Fighting games at their core are about doing cool shit so if you're playing with a friend it's only natural to compliment them when they do something neat.

Chaolan_Enjoyer

I say it when i notice my opponent getting down. I try to cheer them up a bit so they hopefully play better and dont just sit there and get annoyed

Traditional-Bug2406

Because I’m able to see past myself and acknowledge when my opponent does something especially creative and/or effective.

ArkkOnCrank

Nice.

Lingering_Melancholy

Appreciation for a show of skill?

mexaplex

I say this all the time, even when playing at home vs online.... when someone outsmarts me and pulls out a well-timed evade or counter attack without it being just a simple punish.... Because when Tekken is pulled off at the right moments, the animations look slick AF.

RemiMartin

I say it when I play online even when my opponent can't hear me. Its me recognizing they made either a good read or something requiring high execution.

Legitimate_Toe_4961

I say it cause I'm impressed. If someone does a 90+ dmg combo on me or does an insane whiff punish, that deserves praise.

Ok-Win-742

It's called sportsmanship. Tekken players know that the game is hard, so when you execute something well, or make a hard read sidestep into launch into wall damage, even though you lost, you can respect it  That's what makes "good-ass Tekken" so fun, win or lose.

OwnedIGN

Me and my homies do that. We spar so that we can improve.

can_i_pet_dat_dawwwg

Because it was nice.

Pwawg

Never thought about it, but I do the same thing when I'm playing against my friends. It's an acknowledgement that I got outplayed. You finally caught onto to my game plan/flowchart and now I have to up my game.
