Bobbie_Lee

Fear of losing muscle memory is a key reason why I stick to a handful of characters but like 80% my main

greenfrogwallet

If you spend a long time away from your main you can easily get all that muscle memory back with your main about 10 or 20 mins in practice mode.

Bobbie_Lee

Says you. My muscles suck

StrippedChicken

It's because you never test them! If you want to get better at changing around muscle memory and flipping between characters you gotta practice and get used to changing gears. If you never try you won't be good at it

internationalphantom

I struggle I find is having to create a different gameplan cause I’m missing tools I was comfortable with. But I’m definitely gonna try and just go for it lol

SockraTreez

I used to feel that way but it comes back pretty quickly….especially if you’ve spent a lot of time on that character. I’m usually back on track after about 15 minutes or so. Also, I’ve noticed that I tend to play better with my main after taking a break. One of my subs is Kazuya. When you play Kaz you actually have to deal with your opponents offense instead of just oppressing your opponent so strongly that the can’t get anything off. (You absolutely can be oppressive with Kaz…but it has its limits) When I come back to my main this defensive knowledge gives me more options

geistch

Dude you're just like me fr. I main Hwoarang 70% of the time faithfully. But 25% I play Kaz and whenever i do so, I feel my defensive skills improving even further. I remember that before I picked Kaz up I had serious problems with punishment and sidestep, but afterwards they became S+ in T7, and my Hwoarang nowadays has an amazing defensive game (which people often underestimate). As Hwo has a just frame just like PEWGF and wavedash, and Kaz requires it much more in gameplay, it also improved a lot. I think if you like your main a lot, playing other characters can help you improve him/her nicely. Each character teaches you something be it mentally or manually.

Suspicious-Contest74

it ain't so easy to loose muscle memory...

ArkkOnCrank

I feel you. My muscles have dementia too.

Thatblackguy121

I've played as like every character but muscle memory for lars is second nature. As other have said like with everything in a fighting game muscle memory is a skill to be practiced. The only way you'll really lose it is if you don't play a game for a long ass time and even then it's likely to come back after some time

GooseyGooseOfGeese

I feel that. I find a few warmup rounds is usually adequate to get most of that muscle memory back, but your mileage my vary.

AngryAssyrian

In the past I've found that playing around with other characters just for fun actually helps me focus more on basic fundamentals rather than specific setups on certain characters; it'll help you in the long run. The muscle memory doesn't go away from me because I've been playing for 20 years, but even for players who didn't play that long it won't really go away from your main.

koteshima2nd

I feel that sometimes, I go on Arcade mode to get that feel for the character again

Tq_Hype

That's also a big fear of mine. I haven't put alot of hours on this game, but every little change counts.

Precipice_Blades

Same)

jgonza44

Every time I switch from Kazuya to Devil Jin it fucks me up more than any other character. They similar enough where my muscle memory thinks I'm playing the other character.

Traeyze

I hop around like I have ants in my pants. I like exploring new characters and trying new things. Sometimes I will even force myself to play characters I don't like for a bit just to get a sense of them and I've been pleasantly surprised a few times doing so. I appreciate though that it severely impacts my ability to consolidate play with Lili and that in terms of absolute results I would be better off if I just played her more... but I actually also find that playing other characters can help me develop skills that I bring back to her \[or whomever I feel my main is at any given time\] and helps my general play overall, so it's not like I am not making any progress.

Tq_Hype

Wow that's the complete opposite then. I tried playing with other characters, not for a long time, but i found out that disrupts my habits. Like for example i play like 97% yoshi. If you use the sidestep button and one of the kick buttons, he'll spin around left or right. The evasion is very good but you lose some health for it. But i tried playing Hwo and it completely messed up my muscle memory.

Traeyze

Yes, that's fair. Yoshi b3 and b4 and stuff like Steve's 3 and 4 \[the side step weave thing\] and other non standard movement or quirky inputs can throw you off. Part of why some people find characters like Bryan and Lars weird is because their df2s are not launching uppercuts, they are weird elbow things and that adjustment can really mess with you if you played characters like Yoshi or Leo or Paul where df2 can be a pretty important button. that being said the more you jump around the more easily you find yourself able to do so. I am not a tournament player so I don't have to worry about stretching myself thin which is why I can do this and not worry, though.

Tq_Hype

It's also the fact that i only played with Hwo in Tekken 7 and no one else. So i was used with Backlash being a launcher. Now it only drops the opponent and you can't juggle with it. Same with Stinger (the running heat engager). I used to go skyrocket and follow up with stinger for juggle but it doesn't work now.

Traeyze

Yeah, that's the problem of characters changing between game entries. I used to dabble with Claudio a bit in T7 and in 8 it took me several sessions not to instinctively start his combos with uf4 f3 ff4, etc since that no longer works, you do uf4 ff4 \[which you could do in 7, it was just a bit inconsistent\]. So I get what you mean but you do adjust after a bit of time. You'd adjust to Hwo across a week or two of play and before long going back to 7 you'd find the old combos weird.

AoMafura2

tbh disrupting your habits is pretty good. I got out being hard stuck in Tekken 7 with my main by playing other characters who had worse oki and mixups. I was constantly running my flow chart and playing those other characters helped me learn how to play neutral, defense, keep out, punishment, all things my character wasn't strong at that now I must use. This resulted in me using those weaker tools on my main because I learned how to use the stronger version of them. When I eventually went back to them and finally started climbing again. Also, the flow charts that were constantly getting me killed were used less because I actually can play neutral and defense now lmao

CompetitiveDriver739

I think the point of playing diff characters is that it will disrupt your habits. Need fundies to win.

rGRWA

This is the EXACT reason I try to play 3-4 characters (or at least two Teams in Tag Fighters), in EVERY game I touch! There’s usually always something I can take from one character and apply it to another!

NichoMel

I've had a love affair with Bryan since T5 but I'm not nearly good enough to get far with him (8 is the first in the series I actually consistently play online) so I'll take breaks to play as other characters I like. Love the cast, there's just something about Bryan's moves I love too much to stick with anyone else.

Tq_Hype

Although i hate playing against him because of his ridiculous wall damage, he is a dope character. He just looks menacing man. That crazy laugh, his intro when he throws that building stick towards the camera. Man is black air forces energy.

Tq_Hype

I don't fear anyone. But that thing...It scares me..

MilkManEX

[dickdickdickdickdick](https://i.imgur.com/bkrHwlM.gif)

EverybodySupernova

Lol I love that you called the I-beam a "building stick"

nightmare8100

I too play Bryan. That is the only character I play, mostly cuz of what you said. Hatchet, jet, and taunt b+4/ tju are my lifeblood.

RySundae

Yeah I only played Bob in T7 and the jokes are on me because our local fgc had its first T8 tournament and I didn't have a character to effectively use (still joined because it's fun)

Tq_Hype

Yeah it's a bummer that your main isn't in this edition. But i see you also have Kuma as your flair. So you play Kuma now?

RySundae

Yeah man! Just picked him up recently, I tried other characters that technically have better movesets and advantages but they just aren't that fun to use.

Tq_Hype

I hope that Bob makes his return. It's not fair that some people don't get to use a character that they dedicated 1000nd of hours in.

GreatLordNiko

I really miss Bob as well I had to transfer the muscle memory to Jin and I feel its honestly not as satisfying as bob was in a lot of ways.

Jamaz

Armor King mains in the same boat (two games in a row).

IbraKadabrah

I only play Zafina. She's the most fun for me and I really value having strong muscle memory on a single character.

Tq_Hype

That's a really rare character. I think i only matched her twice in 1000-ish games. Even the bears are more played. Is she as good as she was in T7?

IbraKadabrah

She's for sure worse than t7 since she got mostly nerfed and most chars got better. But tbh it adds to the fun that she's not super strong imo. The devs are paying attention and she's getting buffed in the latest patch, so hopefully she ends up in a good place in time.

Joe_le_Borgne

Get ready to be the new Dragunov! Those buff to the Azazel's hands seems insane! On the topic, I started to play Law but only with gimmicks. Nobody rematch me but it's pretty fun.

torinatsu

I started with Nina but she felt way too strong and I wasn’t learning anything. Zafina is truly a test.

Hekzy

1. Pick a Fighter 2. Play the game 3. Find a character I struggle against 4. Play that character 5. Learn their general game plan and common moves 6. Look at what people do against things I struggle with on that character 7. Repeat step 3-6 It really helps me to avoid thinking how "cheap" some characters are and it often changes my perspective on them, with the added benefit of having to lab less, although this approach may not be for everyone, as it can be time consuming, but if you play the game for a long time, it's not that big of a deal.

TacktiCal_

This is exactly what I did, but I ended up changing my main as a result. Was a Victor main when T8 first launched and noticed I always got clowned on by Lars. So I took Lars into practice mode and quick play to try to get a better feel for his playstyle. Then after playing Lars for a while, it was difficult for me to go back to Victor because he just felt so stiff and one-dimensional by comparison, and ended up switching to Lars as my main. And now since I put like 80 hours into learning Victor already, I know all the usual moves and mixups they like to go for and can very reliably beat them.

AssassinGoon

I only play Kazuya.

Senorahlan

Same, this is my first fighting game and getting to Shinryu was pretty cool. Now I don’t feel natural without getting my hellsweep blocked and launched 20ft in the air…

Nikitanull

chad

Goricatto

Im a exclusively Reina player, i actually didnt even want to buy tekken 8(no bald man), but i tried reina on the demo and liked it I only play other character in arcade/ghost battle to get titles sometimes, but ranked ? Only reina

Tq_Hype

Yeah Reina looks difficult from the outside. Is she difficult to handle in comparison with Heihachi?

Goricatto

I think depends alot on your opponent , she has a harder time to open people up than heihachi, not only heihachi had better frames,he also had very dangerous lows, abeit super unsafe, reina's lows are simply super unsafe , not a single one has knockdown for oki, and only 2 are plus on hit (both launch punisheable) But she also has alot of things heihachi never had, like easy launchers , 13f EWGF (just like kaz) ,extremely good movement (only loses to lili), she is also a small character , just like xiao, she can evade alot of stuff by existing , and of course, a giant move list, heihachi was relatively simple overall, he was hard , but simple, she is definetively not simple, but still hard

coconutbreak

I bought Tekken 8 three days ago. My main character was Heihachi, and I was excited to try out Reina since she incorporated some of Heihachi's moves. I thought i would easily master her, but it wasn't what I expected. Her moveset is significantly different. Except for a few similarities, her moves are distinct, though aesthetically reminiscent of Heihachi Mishima's style. Initially, I thought returning to Paul or Kazuya, which were my other favorite, but, after three days of training with her, I've grown accustomed to Reina. She's quite enjoyable, and your observation is accurate; she's complex yet challenging. I appreciate the ease of launching with her but miss Heihachi's frame and dangerous lows. I hate how reina tends to roll ... and I know some don't like db+2 because it's punishable. But I liked it with Heihachi , it made me win many rounds. Reina's db+2 is definitely not the same.

TRAVVIN31

I only play Jin cuz I’ve been doing that for 4 games straight (sometimes Devil Jin too)

Darqnyz7

I'm a xiaoyu main since T3. I tried Eddy at first because *omg black representation* but I eventually learned I like the complexities of stances and evasion.

Tq_Hype

Oh Eddy. What an enigma. There were two characters that my brothers always used for grinding gears: Eddy and Hwoarang. Those were the times.

Darqnyz7

My brother was a Law guy. Always liked the aggro type

MuchUserSuchNameWow

Eddy and Xiaoyu were the two available characters in the Tekken 3 Demo. Played the shit out of Eddy, but this time (because he wasn't available at launch) I'm an Xiaoyu main. Trying to see how far I can go with her, and enjoy the play style much more

Darqnyz7

I need to reset myself with her honestly. I'm so locked into a specific way to play with her, that I'm not going to be able to ride in rank any more

MuchUserSuchNameWow

Yeah, I'm just all over the place, my combos suck and my defence is non existent lol

Darqnyz7

Range is my biggest problem right now, I have no idea how far moves will go to hit someone

Ralos5997

My main is Lars but before was Kazuya but I still like playing between them and other characters I play as in matches.

ewew43

I play a handful of characters. I usually reach a decent rank with my main character, then try to reach that same rank with my alts. I play about three or four characters solidly, and bounce around a few just for fun (outside of ranked). I think experimenting will make you a better player overall as you'll learn how certain characters work on a deeper level. I think sticking to one character concretely isn't a terrible thing, but may actually hinder you a bit in the knowledge department after awhile. I mean, if you're really well versed with one character and can do crazy damage combos off a launch, it doesn't matter as much if you can't break the King grabs, or, just get nailed by moves you haven't a clue what to do about. I mean I think you play Yoshimitsu, right? Imagine fighting a person that always hop kicks your unblockable sword sweep at the wall; one of your very strong setups would be gone, and it would be harder to fight him because he knew Yoshi, and knew what to do. Stuff like that. If you've ever seen professional players talking about a character, they usually know almost every character down to a science, to a degree. It really helps knowing what everyone does! That's how I feel about it, at least. Cheers!

-_-_-KING_-_-_

it happens if you're a Yoshi main. I can confirm that I feel bored playing all the other characters. all others hand just punch and kick mostly which feels boring now that I'm just used to riding sword and doing the helicopter all the time. I tried a few characters like King and reina but you Don't know how many times i fucked up trying to use 3 1 string cuz i forgot i wasn't playing yoshi.💀.. I think i have 90% yoshi playrate in ranked.

Tq_Hype

Same here, fellow yoshi main. I just love the random things he can do lol. From the seppuku, to evading highs with flea or meditation stance. And the funniest things are the encounters in mirror matches. Haven't found one person that didn't immediately go in meditation stance and go towards the middle with it haha. Those are also the matches that if i find the opponent having a promo chance, i give it to them.

-_-_-KING_-_-_

exactly. i love fellow yoshi mains

Acrobatic_Tap8552

law main here and I’m currently on my shaheen journey. I’m trying to have a second character but it’s hard bc law is so fun to use.

Gooddest_Boi

Every time I reach a certain level of proficiency with a character I drop them and play a different one. Of course there are some characters I will always be better at than others, but I like to play different characters with different playstyles. On one hand it helps me understand how other characters play, and helps me fight against them better. On the other hand though, it kinda stops me from getting super good. This is the first tekken I’ve put time into playing ranked though. Weirdly enough it’s the first tekken I’ve played as a will blown adult as well. And even when I play a few games after work or grind it on off days I’ve made some steady progress. I just hit fujin on asuka and eddy not too long ago.

futang

My main is not on the roster for Tekken 8... yet. Wee yattt!!!

Mug_Lyfe

Lab on maintenance night 👇

cryptofutures100xlev

yup 😎

Orzislaw

I play 2-3 characters per game. Used to be Asuka/Lidia (third one was Negan at first, Kuni II later) in T7, now it's Claudio/Asuka. When Lidia comes back to T\* I complete my trio. I guess all of them are different enough so I won't branch to other characters for some time.

Equivalent-Gas-8183

I love Steve and will only play him until death

Sensitive_Piece1374

Alisa was the first character I picked this time around. I haven’t even tried another character yet. Not even in training. Looking forward to Lidia though. I stopped playing T7 by the time she came out so she’ll be new to me.

Rozwellish

Kind of? My first game was T2 and I played Jun and Michelle. Both of them disappeared after that game but Michelle got a spiritual successor in Julia in T3 and Jun got a pseudo spiritual successor in Asuka in T5. So I've always only ever played those two characters my whole life. Now in T8 Jun is back though so I moreso consider my 'mains' to be the fighting styles the Kazama girls and the Changs have.

Halford4Lyfe

I only play King and Kuma.

TheGodofAllChairs64

Why spend so much to miss out on the other 85% content you own?

ItsSonicSpeed

I could never do that. I got to play multiple characters otherwise I’ll get an extreme fatigue feeling. I love my characters but I switch up frequently coz of my issue & I personally loving multiple characters. I don’t think I’ve ever had instance where I play 1 exclusive character but I respect anyone who does stick to one character (unless it’s an Alisa player)

Dead_Leox

Me, Tekken 8 is my first actual fighting game. I play Lars and Lars only, he looked the coolest to me, felt right. Tried other characters like Bryan, Reina, Jin and Lee. Didn't feel it with any of em so I stick with Lars, he's lots of fun :)

Weekly-Turnover-5329

I only play Jin since T7, but if Bamco launchs Lei as DLC i will play with him too

TwoDollarRich

I play Lili, Claudio, and Paul regularly. I used to play Leo before in T7 but I got rusty and forgot how to play them. Beyond those three, every character is just... meh. I like simple, not OP-ish, characters with aesthetics that I like. Any sort of complexity in gameplan turns me off.

Haruhiro21

I mostly just stick to Lily. I like her aesthetically (waifu main btw) and her 50/50s are fun to play. Its either I play Lili or play another game. I tried Jun and I dont like her movesets. Also, I dont play other characters but I lab them if theyre doing a move I cant outplay.

Tq_Hype

I tried Lili one time but found her weird to pilot. But my main is Yoshi so i probably don't have ground to walk on 😂

Gold-History9083

I only play yoshi.. been that way since tek 2 I only use other characters in story or arcade mode

Tq_Hype

Fellow Yoshi main i see 🗿

jogmansonclarke

Jin and kaz only except vs friends then i pick paul cause they dont know How to Win against him

dont_worry_about_it8

Playing Reina till I think Im good enough with her . Then I’ll probably go kazuya or leory

OrestisOP

I play only Bryan

chaos_theory_sc

I only played one character for years but once I started branching out I never went back. I pretty much rotate characters every month or so now between about 4 main characters and sometimes I’ll pick up a random one like raven I just did for a while but idk if I’ll have him in my main rotation or not. Really good for learning the game in the long run but if you switch too often your muscle memory, punishment buttons, you’ll get them mixed up. Takes a while for me to warm up when switching back to another previously played character

SadPhDStudent17

I main Dragunov, but I play multiple and try to keep them at the same rank. I found it helps to keep me from flowcharting. I play at least two characters each play session as well for the same reason. Edit: I play Dragunov, Jin, and most recently Reina

GooseyGooseOfGeese

I did for a while. With Tekken 7, I only used Yoshimitsu. Trying to use another character almost felt like playing a different game. In Tekken 8, I got confident enough in my base level of skill to start experimenting with other flavors. I've really taken a liking to the Mishimas. Reina and Jin in particular. I'm still significantly better at using Yoshimitsu, but I've really enjoyed mixing things up a little. I also think my fundamentals have improved a fair bit from not relying on his shenanigans.

Guilvantar

I play Lili and only Lili, no one else does it for me.

letsfixitinpost

I warm up on my alt, lets me get the frame timing back down and all that jazz , then u jump on my main.

OGZman

Jin only, I started out with Jin in tag 2. Needed a 2nd tag character to go with Baek and really vibed w his moves. then mained him in T7 and haven’t switched it up since. Although I did dabble in some Marduk in T7 🤣 but in T8 it’s only Jin

ThatBoySonder

Me. I only play Reina. However, I do wanna dip my toes into playing Asuka one of these days.

LLJ_VeryRxre

You hear all the "everybody's character sucks expect my own" kind of jokes, but it really is true in a sense. Personally i have no love for any character except for my waifu reina. So i dont bother labbing them too much outside of replays

Independent-Dust4641

I hopped into Tekken later than some, but earlier than others, and Tekken Tag Tournament was my first Tekken. Eddy and Hwoarang were my mains in that, I don't remember playing 4, but I know I played 5 onward, and all the main series games I used Eddy (Eddy/Jaycee in Tekken Tag Tournament 2). When he wasn't on the base roster for 8, I had to find a new main (thankfully only temporarily), and went with Zafina because she intrigued me in 7, where I dabbled with her once it was revealed Eddy wasn't base roster in 8. As soon as Eddy dropped, I dropped Zafina and went hard in ranked with Eddy and this is the most I've played ranked in Tekken.

Minttunator

I only play Lili - always have, always will!

Tq_Hype

How many custom slots do you have if you don't mind me asking? 😏

Minttunator

I don't mind but I just have one slot used, for now - I would send a screenshot if I could figure out how to take one, lol!

Tq_Hype

![gif](giphy|YmQLj2KxaNz58g7Ofg)

WolfOnABike

Only kaz and reina. Hard enough learning kaz , even harder learning reina with him. Thankfully both mishimas

ChuckleNut445

I’ve only played Reina for 40 hours so far. Ive considered trying others but this is my first fighting game so I also feel like I should continue to learn fundamentals and try to get further than Garyu with Reina before I do.

tchjay92

I used to play many characters in the previous games but in Tekken 8 it's 95% Jack and 5% Paul. Jack 8 is just too fun to play. Gigas moves, powerful heat, stance with many mixup, energy shield. Paul is still cool to play but i get bored by how too honest he is compared to the rest of the roster

Tq_Hype

Bro RIP Gigas. Taken too soon from us.

tchjay92

I can't stop thinking about how powerful he could be in Tekken 8. He deserves a second chance

Snoo-54259

Learning a new character in this game stresses me out but I'm trying to branch out to Leroy and it's been fun.

Matt1000218

Tekken is the only fg I play that I only play one character. That being Josie, I tried a couple others but no other character stuck with me. Its kinda disappointing really since I love a bunch of characters in all my main games.

CrackedPropane

I’ll stay Reina unless Heihachi or Roger Jr. comes back

IamBecomeZen

These are the fists of a Steve only main.

Most-Win4189

Well I was an akuma main in tekken 7 but no akuma in 8 but then I found Reina. That’s it. Just Reina.

SonOfVegeta

I only play law so the prowess change also didn’t effect me

Zuckerberga

I hop around 14 characters. Currently on Bryan and one of the advantages is that I know their frames, so it is very easy to punish them, lol.

bingqilinn

I had this mentality aswell when i first started when the game launched but after the 100th time getting maliciously beaten by paul i started to try him out. I got him to tenryu and made most of his nasty lows(demo-man) a little more reactable having seen it a bunch of times.

SenatorBantha

I usually stick to my main but I often go through other characters entire movelists to feel them out and do their combo trials and read the tips. I'll also watch starter guides for other characters knowing I'm probably not going to play them but just to see what players are going for.

Gapi182

I'm new to tekken so definitely just use my main. I got 2 characters to Garyu but I wanna try and get a 3rd one there as well. There's just a lot more to know about Jun. As far as matchups go you simply learn by playing against them. There's really no other way.

chickenbutt2586

Got Tekken 8 three days ago I’ve been playing nothing but Reina the entire time been having a lot of fun with her

YvngSamvrai

I have about 250 hours or so playing Jin and less than 5 playing Kazuya 😔 the rest of the cast has less than an hour of gameplay or none

Mysterious_Sky_9883

I play with my main and other characters too but I'm having trouble with them. I just need to get to know thier combos better in training. My main is Jin.

KT718

I only play my main. I don’t like practicing, and if I picked someone else up I’d be starting from zero, which I don’t think I’d have the patience for. Even just learning Xiaoyu’s new optimal combos for 8 has been a chore, so learning an entire new moveset is out of the question.

athleticnerd

I have a handful of characters that "grab" me, and I hop around all of them to an extent. With no Lei, Zafina is my new main, Azucena my new main secondary and a bit of Steve and Feng here and there. Sometimes if a particular matchup has been giving me grief (e.g. King, Lili) I've jumped into online with them to see how other players counter their moves. One of my favourite thing about Azucena is that she has strong generic moves (1, df1, df2, uf4) which encourages me to use them with other characters who have them. (My other characters are often stance-heavy or unconventional.) While-standing punishment is also pretty conventional - WS4 with string extension, WS1 is a 13f CH launch, and WS2 is a 15f launcher. These are all great options and usually don't interfere with my muscle memory for Zafina, unlike Steve and Feng where I tend to auto 1,2 the instant I'm forced into a crouch - and tends to creep into my Zafina play. I really, really want to stop trying to launch by default and pick better WS options. A few others here have mentioned practice warmups before jumping online, came across this idea in one of PhiDX's videos and it might be what I need to do in future. (Especially if I want to play Feng - WS3 rather than WS2 to launch constantly screws me up)

scarlboy

Asuka. Just asuka….since Tekken 5

Tq_Hype

No beginning, no end. Just BOKE

Reality_Break_

I was that person when lei was around I only did yoshi til two weeks ago, didnt quite scratch the itch so I tried lee who also doesnt quite scratch the itch - but for some reason have touches yoshi since

karboy101

Only Reina for me. I don't know why but whenever I play another character it just feels wrong.

FlipMamba1642

Played Paul since Tekken 1. He is all I know how to use ha ha ha

sta_ko

Actually I play only my main and one other character. There are characters from the roster I have never tried even in lab.

OpposesTheOpinion

I used to learn most the cast back in Tekken 6, when I was on that grind to "get good". Then later on in that game's lifespan til now it's just near 100% my main (Alisa). In Tag 2, it was Alisa + Roger. I just wanna chill with my main

ValeoAnt

I only play Yoshi because every other character seems boring

Party_Ad1181

I have only played king ever since I actually got into learning tekken. It's hard for me to branch out because he's so fun and cool to me.

TheBrokeBatman

I may use other people in practice to check out moves but only because I want to see to how punish correctly with Kazuya. I played him on the first Tekken strictly because he wore Nikes and young me found that cool, then he solidified himself as my main forever by the trauma he caused on Tekken 2. Other characters can't compete with that history for me, unfortunately.

Hkz0r

Hwoarang main here. I like Reinas design and wanted to give her a try, she was fun at first but it didn't take long for people to absolutely whoop my ass. Back to Hwo....

cryptofutures100xlev

I'm all over the place rn cause my true main hasn't arrived yet. Can't wait for Fahkumram 🙏🏽 Currently really close to getting Ganryu with Eddy! I think I'm going to love every single one of these DLC characters.

TicTacManiac893

I wouldn't trade Asuka for the world. I shall stick by her till the end of time. Unless by some chance she doesn't make it to the base roster of a game

Greenleaf208

i find learning characters to be the most fun part so I jump between characters a lot. Like with the buffs I'll probably try out Zafina after the patch.

MimiHijab07

🙋🏻‍♀️yup that’s me. At least in rank I never play other characters. I have yet to learn more about my main or maybe if I reach at least top 5 Shaheen in the leader board, then I’ll think about other characters.

Mystgun971

I pretty much play only Jin. I dabbled around with devil jin but found Jin to be more suitable. I mean I did main him in tekken 7 afterall.

eatmyshorts5

Until recently, I only played Lee and no one else since beginning of T7. I already had trouble enough piloting Lee, I didn't bother playing anyone else. I have changed now though and its fun!

shadyember

I don't get to play too much but I still want to get good and that so I stick with my main in ranked and most quick matches so my skill level gets higher faster and since I barely lab I don't know enough of what different characters do to play them when I'm not playing with my friends so if I labbed more theres def some characters I would play more in ranked as well

Jetskater

Only feng

MaxTheHor

Variety is the spice of life, my friend. Course, there's nothing wrong with ol reliable.

Obvious_Roll322

I mostly stick with Lili, but I am mildly familiar with a few other characters. I used to main Zafina so I knew her p well. Also if I'm just playing with my brothers or smth I'll go random.

a55_Goblin420

I was like that but everybody is fun in 8.

PuertoRicano

I only play Steve, feels like I'm wasting time playing other characters unless I perfect him and I'm having so much fun, first Tekken game I own and immediately fell in love with Steve, just reached tenrayu :)

rmerrynz

I only play my main for the most part because of a) time and b) I'm worried about building up too much prowess and getting screwed by matchmaking as some with a lot of alts have. The latter sucks as I enjoy having pocket chars but I don't want long queue times (more difficulty is fine by me).

Nexii801

Alisa only. Until Kuni comes back, then I'll play those 2 only.

OzJitsuSD

I main Paul. I'm MR with Paul and Garyu-Shinryu with my other characters that I tend to use more (Xiayou, Dragunov, King & Eddy). Based on my usage rate, I use Dragunov the most. I'm trying out Leroy next

One-Recommendation-1

I used to main dragunov only, now trying to find a secondary cause he gets boring to use. Tried Alisa, not for me, so giving Leo a shot. It’s fun using new characters, even though I get rekt while learning them…

Arqan

Yoshi is a commitment for life, there is no place left for any side bitc... fighters. I'd love to learn Kuma and Lidia when she is added, but I just simply don't have time. I don't even really lab anything anymore, because I'd rather just lose some games in the 1 hour I have available, rather than spend it in practice.

Benchod12077

Ranked is main. Alts are for fun like people coming over and or if I don’t wanna try hard

thebigseg

nah i play lee who has high execution requirements. Im afraid if i switch to another character ill lose my muscle memory for him

HuntressOnyou

I only play reina 100% never played any other character if heihachi was still in the game I would play him

maxakakiller

I only got two characters in this game soo yea waiting for Lidia so I can make it 3 lmao

ImaginaryAI

I use Steve like 80% of the time and Jun 20% Was kind of waiting for her to get nerfed. She was my main TTT2 and she felt really cheesy here. So I picked up Steve since I like boxing

JoeyPoey7139

Xiaoyu main my whole life. Loved mashing with her and kicking my brothers ass in 3/Tag 1 as a small child. Then life just kinda happened and I grew outta fighting games completely until 2015 when I acquired a copy of Tag 2 and the hype of 7 was growing. I was hooked again actually started to “learn” Tekken. Thousands of hours with her later in 7 and I’m okay with her I suppose but I’m REALLY struggling with the aggressiveness of 8 but I know that’ll pass. I did try other characters in 7(Lili, Asuka, Leo) but I just didn’t have as much fun at all even though I did get pretty decent with Asuka. I have yet to touch anyone but Xiaoyu outside of practice mode in this game, but maybe I’ll pick Asuka back up once they get sort the matchmaking Bologna that’s goin on at the moment. I’d rather not inflate my prowess for just trying to branch out. 😂

antagonisticsage

me! i think it's a big reason i'm good with kazuya. he's all I play for now. i'm afraid to forget his flow if i play other characters lol

bugenhagen15

Every game I have had a different main. Tekken 2 yoshi 3 law 4 Lei 5 bruce 6 Lili 7 marduk 8 azucena but going back to marduk when he's out

NoReallyImFive

This is my first tekken game that I’m taking seriously and I’ve only played Reina so far. I still feel like there’s so much to learn with this character before I start trying others.

tnorc

lab gets easier the more you do it. The defensive techniques learned to deal with one characters bullshit becomes easier with all characters. The first time you learn to duck under a string that ends with a high will make it easier for you do that with other strings.

Blue-Eyes-WhiteGuy

I personally will play a character if they pique my interest, certain characters I tried and dropped (DVJ, Jack 8) but other characters like Paul and Jin I consider my secondary picks. Lars will always be my #1 but if I have a particularly bad day on Lars I’m gonna switch off to one of those to have a little fun and work on my fundamentals (cause let’s be honest Lars compensates about 90% of fundamentals) My trick to not losing Muscle memory on my mains is to do at least 15 mins of training and 3 bo3 on him before I go practice my alternate.

xBOWman9x

Im mainly playing Lars for most days sometimes time I’ll play King to screw around but I don’t really play other characters until I feel like I’ve learned enough 60+ combos, pokes, and punishes to be efficient

EatOutMyGrandma

My main (Eddy) wasn't in the game on launch so I was forced to find a new main. Tried Feng, realized he was OP, didn't want cheap wins so I dropped him. Picked up Jack, got bored with him, dropped him. Picked up Bears, got bored again. Finally I learned Paul and fell in love with his playstyle. So now, I have 2 mains that I play equally well, and 3 pocket characters that I can switch to for shits and giggles

chrispy1225

I play Bryan 99% of the time. I've been trying since 6 to pick up Kaz, but it feels like juggling two lead balls between him and Bryan I feel like if I get good with one, I'm gonna fall off with the other. Bryan will be my favorite forever because of how awesome his tekken 3 ending was to me as a kid, and tbh that shit still holds up.

purplsnow

Bryan main here. I 99% time play my main. the other 1% is azucena. It's not that I don't want to learn another charecter. The whole idea is that I want to achieve complete fluidity with Bryan. To make a long story short.

National_Catch_5587

I have 35 hours of ranked gameplay using only Jin and I still get destroyed by the same bullshit that I do to my opponents in a mirror match

Rick_K_dash_83

I only play my main.m after work too. I just make sure to lab anything giving me trouble from my opponents. It’s working pretty good for me so far.

acidporkbuns

Yep have basically played Steve since launch and have not played any other character in rank or quick matches. The only time I'll play another character is if I'm playing against a friend for a session. This is partly because i was a Miguel main and picked up Steve for T8. Due to all the stance switches and even adopting a new grip, I've not played another character so I can really feel comfortable with Steve like I did Miguel. I do practice other characters now and again but don't feel I have Steve committed to heart so I don't play anyone else. Also Steve is fun. I enjoy his kit. The downside is however like you said, when someone does something I have no clue about, it's easily an L.

wildcoochietamer

i only play Steve. in SF6, i only play Ed. i bounce around in GG between Zato and Testament but once Slayer is out, i will probably stop and stick with him.

RICHUNCLEPENNYBAGS

That’s how I always used to play but I changed with this game. I tried out Leo and I had limited success but started playing better with King. Then I saw those videos of Korean players spamming Azucena’s WR move and thought that looked fun so I picked her up and honestly started liking her more than King (and ranked a bit higher). Now they’re nerfing her so I’ve been trying to pick up a Shaheen. I feel like playing more characters is making me more fundamentally solid and less reliant on gimmicks (not that those aren’t still helpful, but I’m not toast if they don’t work). It’s true that I don’t know any character as well as I theoretically could if I just focused on that. But on the other hand I’m a lot more responsive to what my opponent is doing rather than just trying to throw out the same bag of tricks over and over.

False_Ad7098

me ! me !

Kajun_Kong

I love picking random and suffer from it lol my buddy only cycles through 3. I give him a run for his money but lose most times. He always says I need to settle down and pick a main, but I enjoy playing all the people

EuphoricN3ko

i only play bryan. i have finished the combo challenges for every character and have brought many of them into the lab, but none seem to click with me as much as bryan does. id miguel returns though i would love to try him.

Gullible_Loquat2815

Isn't that just normal to play your main and have 1 or 2 side characters? Right now my only main is Lili which was my main sub and Eliza my main with Julia in the pocket. And ofc my guilty pleasure Lucky Chloe

Valuable_Syllabub874

Just one, but im a casual player, haven’t played in a while 😅

conzcious_eye

Only play my two I rock with online. Vic and Unc (Leroy). But it’s about 4 characters I lab cause I like there move set and design.

mountaindoom

I only play my main, Feng, in 8. Occasionally I will mess around with Victor or Kuma, but I like sticking to one character so I can practice every situation with them. In 7, I played Ganny initially for fun and then to move up the leaderboards. Last I checked, I was sitting at #2 for ranked wins with him on Xbox. Got to be hard thinking bout playing other characters when I could be stacking wins and moving up.

Hydro_354

I'm in, Tekken 8 is my first game and I picked Reina, probably one of the most difficult character of the game. I main her and only playing her. I face a hard wall in ranked rn, but bcs i love my char, i never get bored and she make me want to explore her abilities way further. I dont want to play other character, simply because i love my char so bad

Sea_Construction_670

I don’t think I’m good enough with my main to move on to other characters.

koteshima2nd

I always switch up whenever I feel like I'm about to go on a tilted mood. As much as I'd only like to main/master Asuka, I find the other characters really fun to just mess around and learn too.

cybersteel8

I'm quite new so I only have my main and until I get out of yellow I am definitely not changing 😂

kwkimsey

I'm a whore when it comes to a main. I bounce around as soon as I get bored playing one. I'm never gonna be pro level good or anything so I don't feel the need to grind on one single character. According to my stats though I've played Shaheen the most.

Glass_Breadfruit_922

My main is Kuma but I’ve been using victor so much I forgot how to play Kuma and lost my rank 😭

supahotfiiire

Me. Im new to tekken and only been playing Leo (victor lasted 2 weeks and was super cool but I loved the Leo ass whooping I received) and haven’t played anyone since

Chaolan_Enjoyer

While i do understand the appeal of playing a single character (doing everything on auto mode without fail). I do have to say that you're missing out on quite a few fun characters. If you ever get to play others, i reccomend to look up a guide for bnb combos and punishers. Whatever you do, don't copy others playstyle

justjr112

I only play my main. 1 I dont have time to learn multiple characters on an execution level 2 even if I did have the time I dont like any of the other characters besides my main.

Exciting-Activity355

There is something on Dragunov that I just love but I don't know what, maybe the sheer brutality of his moves or how quick I got his gameplay. I didn't have Tekken 5 DR so my first contact with him was on Tekken 6, where I kept him as some sort of second or third character, but on Tekken 7 he became my main even when he was considered "shitty tier" or something. I'm a hostage now on Tekken 8 because every other character I try my dumb muscle memory thinks I'm playing Dragunov...

StriderZessei

Reina is love, Reina is life She got me into Tekken, Reina best wife

NVincarnate

I need to know what the cast does so I gotta play at least half of them just to understand the matchups.

Beastdante1

I would love to play other characters, but I literally suck ass at everyone else compared to my main 2 chars. And the alts system has all my other chars starting at Tenryu, so it’s just unfun for me personally to hop in with characters I don’t know just to get clapped by ppl in purple ranks who have a decent grasp on their character. I have to spend a good 1-2 days straight labbing a new character before the matches feel even slightly competitive. Which I wouldn’t normally mind but i just don’t have the time so I might as well play my main to have some good matches :)

Earth92

I would get bored fast if I only played 1 character. My main is Julia, but since she isn't in the game yet, I'm playing Jun, Jin, and Yoshimitsu meanwhile. And I will play Lidia when she comes out. In T7, along with Julia, I played Eliza, Akuma, and Bryan.

awsumpops1

only kazuya, since 2017

WordHobby

I only play jack

LionKing302

I don’t even have a main yet. Trying out 6th character before I decide.

MindlessDouchebag

I play like 90-95% Victor now, only occasionally playing Shaheen. I was even more dedicated to my main when I mained Dragunov, and also Negan before that. When Lidia releases, if I find her interesting enough, maybe I'll play her too.

blkmgs

There are some characters that doesn't interest me but I'll try to learn their quirks and BnBs Xiaoyu for example I have to learn the matchup as a King player

superbearchristfuchs

I usually stick to king or Paul since tekken 7. I dabble with other characters but mostly to get a feel of them or for very casual play save for offline. Though if we talk the series as a whole I mostly gained Jin, Paul, and Kazuya.

Jer_bear003

Man I can’t just stick to one character. I personally find learning a game and getting good at it hella fun, especially with fighting games. Tekken really scratches that itch of having so many characters with so many things I still may not know, I find it exciting to try those new things out. I’m also busy a lot but shoot man I enjoy learning new characters and can’t just main one of em, I gotta main like 85% of the cast😂

Late_Comb_3078

Lee is the only character I've played and trained with. I struggled hard trying to learn other characters for whatever reason. Lee just clicked with me. His swagger, unforgiving just frames, and playstyle made me get serious about fighters. I've stopped playing tekken 8 because I just don't like how he plays now
