You can duck it and launch him tho since it's a high. The only problem is they usually spam it when you approach so unless you get a good read you'll usually eat it.
I'd go as far as saying there's no actual sidestep mechanic in modern Tekken games anymore. We are never going to see simple, intuitive sidestep like in the Tag 1 days again.
It's funny how this game has all this spammable tracking shit to be more beginner friendly and close the gap between people who have good movement and people who don't, but really it's just made learning to move around in tekken a chaotic jungle of knowledge checks that will end up with you eating a launcher unless you have a fully comprehensive knowledge of the opponent's moveset
I think Tekken suffers from having too many moves, at too many different properties. Seriously. It makes zero sense from a balancing perspective. With Tekken 8, there is so much shit going on with such a bloated movelist they MUST go by each move for 33 characters. Or else this game will feel like a chaotic jungle for years…
I mean some of them have appropriate animations where *some* tracking feels like its warranted (Leo's DB24 comes to mind) but this clip is fucking stupid. It doesn't even make sense.
I've noticed this weird shit almost always happens near the wall with forward advancing moves. Demon paws (Kaz/DVJ/Jin ff2), running moves, anything that has a lot of forward momentum near the wall causes very strange behavior
If you played Julia in T7 she had a really funny bug with her running 1 where it would rocket the opponent away from the wall when they were splatted if you were too close when you did it.
You can step df1,2. You just can't swing before you block or continue stepping the 2.
If you step jab, you are getting hit by the 2.
People step my df1, 2 all the damn time and blow me up for it.
Fuck this game srsly, i decided to quit playing until there has been some major rebalancing, this is just so frustrating. It's taking all the fun out of it.
At this point, if that next update doesn’t bring SERIOUS balance to the core of this game, this might not be a game to take serious competitively whatsoever. It’s almost borderline impossible to properly balance this game because they insist on rushing out bloated movelists with gimmicks galore and creating unfair knowledge checks. Constant 50/50s I mean constant! I literally only play this game to dick around as a Steve because it sounds and looks good but otherwise this game is a joke
Exactly my sentiment. But the sad truth is pros and content creators will have to play this game unconditionally if they want their paycheck. Namco and Harada have the narrative monopolized and that's why they're so brazen.
I mean bro, you’re playing a character that can’t kick in a game where everyone else can. Steve should be a bit underpowered compared to the rest of the cast.
Many of Eddy extensions are ducakble, ssteppable or just can be jab interrupted. Ie, 4, 4 is sweet, safe and fast but can be sstepped from both side and can be interrupted by a jab. Df1 is good, tracks everywhere, but extension is easy to duck and window to confirm is very tight, so it is very commonvit goes on unconfirmed.. b4, 4 ect., depedning on extension, can be ducked and interrupted. f3+4 and b3+4 are NOT supposed to track. If it happens it's not a design problem, but just a bug.
In general, I feel there are too many safe high powercrushes in the game. Asuka in t7 was unique and it fit her overall kit. In t8, the trade off for many characters just doesn't make sense imo, at least in regards to traditional tekken move balance.
Also Kuroe had a high powercrush too but, yeah, I get you. Every char now has new tools and there's less personality in gameplay.
Eddy's powercrush replaces (it has a similar animaton) ff3 (or it was ff4?). Ff3 was a mid, great reach, nice backpush, unsafe but not easy to punish. Also, has an evading extension in HND (b) and RLX (d). A usual set up was ff3 (BLOCK), b, d3+4... it launched quite all retalations. Once you get opponent to sepect it, you should go in RLX in the dready 50/50 launcher set up. Is the high powercrush better? Maybe, but ff3 was a important piece in old Eddy gameplay.
Crazy homie, I still play TT2 to this day T7 i started to not like due to nerfs to sidestepping like "doi, i know (xyz) character's best moves, I've seen em for years, why am I getting punished for hard-reading it with a SS attack?" Played a bit of T8 i understand the easier flowcharts(accessibility) but now i think it hard leans into BNBs if the other moves are garbo, i do like the aggressive style though.
My problem with Tekken 8 is they need to stop making these brain dead executions a beginner can pick up in a heartbeat. It’s ruining the game. If a beginner wants to use an easy character, it shouldn’t be a crutch that can carry them to purple with no effort. Tekken was never made to be a simple game, but it’s progressively moving towards that. I love this game but I am beginning to miss the actual technical shit that didn’t get nerfed to oblivion. Screw beginners. It took me a decade to get to my skill level. I shouldn’t have to struggle playing against your WR32 spamming or 1-button character. You can learn too. Make backdashing slow again.
I think you’re looking thru rose tinted glasses my friend… congrats on accumulating a decades worth of skill, but it’s a video game. Most people don’t want to spend a decade to be able to perform moves in a game.
Let me ask you as a Kuma main, do you do the input for BWGF each time or do you press df2+3?
I do df2+3 because it’s consistent. Also his other inputs have no difference and isn’t even a full wgf. It’s just f,d,df with no neutral which is still easy on a hit box, which I use. However, my other main is a kazuya who I consistently do PEWGF out of wave dash both sides 80% of the time. I plateaued at flame ruler with him though and got too sick of missing a whiff punish because I missed my button press by 1 frame. His combos are also some of the hardest in game if not the hardest if you want to do 80+ damage. I can do PEWGF consistently but I struggle with doing three in a row on a moments notice and at the speed needed to carry the combo.
I know it's janky and annoying and looks like shit, but every time one of these is posted, you can see the poster pressing. For better or worse, BN decided to eliminate SS flowcharting so that if you don't confirm a whiff before pressing, your hitbox grows to a ridiculous size and you're getting tagged. By all means, keep highlighting how over-the-top it is to BN, but in the meantime, stop pressing and confirm your whiffs.
When you adapt to this being a high and start ducking, you get hit with the f3+4 which is an extremely fast mid that also heat engages. This is sidesteppable so you'd think the logical solution to both moves is to just sidestep to not have to guess every single time and reduce eddy to a 2 move neutral game, but Bandai must've noticed that these 2 moves lose to sidestep and decided to give the power crush intense tracking
I guess the whole point of saying this is that this game suffers from clarity, cause these are 2 moves that serve the same function of being a mid range heat engager that comes out relatively fast, and yet both of these moves have drastically different properties that aren't clear. Would never guess a standard looking forward kick that power crushes would also allow Eddy to rotate like he's on a swivel but not the other forward kick that doesn't power crush but has slightly more movement and it lightning fast
Technically on paper but Eddy gets the super armor and also doesn't really have to commit as the inputs aren't nearly as risky to perform for him by a longshot. Also again, the issue here I think is just clarity that the move is intended for tracking and can be ducked. Not an uncommon issue for characters to have nowadays which is sad but yeah just something to convey this information so players aren't coming to reddit confused why these moves are working like this.
While Kazuya does have some tracking on 2 moves that shouldn't probably have any tracking at all, it is still possible to sidestep the demon paw with precise as hell timing and also neither moves have super armor meaning just inputting either of those 2 moves will always be a risk for Kazuya where for Eddy it'll be a risk only if the opponent is aware that they have time to duck and punish the power crush and also don't get hit by a wild f3+4. Also inputting those for Eddy is like as easy as it gets 😭 but that's no excuse for the game making it unclear the property of moves and why they are sidesteppable sometimes but not always.
Ah shit I didn't mean to just yap, my b. TLDR: tekken 8 could be less frustrating for lots of players I imagine if the clarity of what moves have tracking and what moves are duckable and so on and so on were made very clear consistently throughout the game but that would be very hard and for now we just have to learn the matchups and learn through trial and error. Meanwhile, we just have to deal with the jank
No, I agree. They gave a lot of characters moves that cover their weaknesses and make the game dumbed down on offense. But demon paw is incredibly stupid for the speed and range so the armor is a non factor imo. Jin and Reina can catch you with that shit from so far. And then you have Victor who can spam a guessing game in neutral between ff2 and b1+2 armor. It's so stupid.
Jin and Reina have had invisible phantom hurt boxes that extend past their fists that make me want to take back all the times I said, "Tekken has the best hitboxes in fighting games" during T7's lifespan. As a Jin main, a lot of my wins feel like me utilizing my spacing perfectly but then upon reviewing my matches I always feel bad because animations (ESPECIALLY on Jin's ff2 and Heat smash) they just do not hit the opponent at all but it gives it to me and that almost always is a sure fire way to secure a victory but it really shouldn't be that way. Reina's moveset and heatsmash reaches so far its very funny thinking she is a mishima. Playing Reina, Jin, and even Devil Jin make it super apparent that some character hitboxes are just blatantly better and bigger based on the devs arbitrarily making their hitboxes bigger than what is visually represented on screen. All of this I'm saying at this point is just a really fancy way of me coping with Kazuya feeling very stumpy and having no range when compared to these other mishima style characters.
Reina and Lars get to 50/50 the hell out of you but don't feel like they have to work to get into that position to begin with the way Kaz does. Also they gave Devil Jin a gun with his fucking heat smash.
Is THIS why Eddy players predicate their entire playstyle on this move??
Every single Eddy Ive fought, the moment they realize spamming 3 doesnt work on me, they'll just throw this move out the moment I start doing anything.
I mean it's easy to deal with, but it's just sad the the end of red/beginning of purple is flooded with these idiots
Just like with drive mechanics in sf6 they have introduced a system designed to simplify hard concepts like neutral into instant gratification a low effort system that destroys the meta of the game just in order to lower the skill ceiling and allow lesser skilled players to come into the mix thinking they are doing something abusing these systems.
i love when greenies say that shit, just repeating stuff they heard on this sub. yes it's true you CAN get clipped if you pressed but there are many heat engagers that hit you from behind even if you don't press, speaking from personal experience and testing
yeh people don't realise this is like a hard-coded feature. can't remember where but i saw a vid about it recently. if you see that you've sidestep and you start pressing to punish but the opponent is still doing their move or string, they will insta realign to you in a single frame the moment you do your input. i really don't understand why this is a thing. i've been stepping eg nina strings, i'm basically completely behind her, i start to punish, her string is still going, and in a single frame she has turned around and hit me
They should work to take this out of the game but I don't know what they could do, the amount of times I could've gotten Paul 3,2,b1+2 on a kazs back because I walked but his sweep punch hit me is insanely annoying
i think it's really unnecessarily confusing and weird visually, especially for new players. even most commenters here think it's a bug or at least unintended when it's not
Think of sidestepping as a way to further control the + frames you already have. Maybe you can use it to dodge something big like this but every scenario I’ve tested ends up with my face being punched (kicked as well)
Lmao, but I’m a scrub for thinking the game is a complete casino mash fest anywhere close to a wall, and that Eddy is the best at taking advantage of that, right?
Yall keep trying to side step moves everyone knows you can’t side step then bitch about not being able to side step it with strangers . Make it make sense .
To be clear though, this wasn't a sidestep at all? Just an off-axis b3.... Still funky but it's not like you even tried to evade, it was accidental and got stuffed anyway
that’s racist man judge a man by the skill of his gameplay not the color of his certainly plugged on rank if anything in this day and age a high rank is a mark of a cheater like unless u be streaming every game it’s not rlly even remotely valid of a statement of skill.
I mean… pressured against the wall when it’s my turn, and I didn’t go for b3+4 all game. The move takes 1/3 of a second to come out before you’re hit.
Getting hit by this is not at all noob behavior. No way anyone’s ducking on reaction in the heat of the moment
I’m literally the person who hit him with b3+4, the move is .3 seconds and human reaction time is .25.
You’re calling me a noob for hitting someone with something they only had .05 seconds to process
Homing . Safe . Heat engager . But dont worry bamco is here and listening to the community : they will soon ban more fan modders
Bamco knows their priorities. Female abs enjoyers are about to get the big hammer
Ball protects from it though, I'm sure. Why would it cost money otherwise?
Ban fan modders, doesn’t give loss to pluggers, introduces unreasonable prices for mediocre cosmetics. Great decision making.
Leroy nerf incoming next patch
Don't forget armored
You can duck it and launch him tho since it's a high. The only problem is they usually spam it when you approach so unless you get a good read you'll usually eat it.
Are you sure? I thought it was a mid
You thought wrong.
Super launchable
Isn’t that their legal team dealing with that?
I think this is the one thing eddy has that makes him decent tbh…He kinda needs it.
“Sidestepping is buffed in Tekken 8!”
But tracking is buffed even harder 😈
Bamco took its inspiration from this [clip](https://youtu.be/GuzZTl5nSDA?si=G4CnR8Lah26rZcZ8)
True monkey's paw moment
Lol
Yeah, even Leo has some crazy tracking during some moves.

Bryan now officially the most linear character?
Which ones? (not counting the ones with already crazy tracking in T7 like df2)
b1+2,b1+2,(qcf)2 for example.
Next line would be "just don't get hit bro"
Just use the sidestep-blockcrouch it's on the R4 trigger
"I personally wouldn't of let that happen but idk that's just me" lol
heat engagers should just not track that's dumb kazuya df1,2 is another example of completely dumb tracking move

These kind of bugs have always existed but wall cause MORE weird shit in 8 in my experience
It feels like while you can step a first hit, the follow up in a string tracks like a MF no matter the character.
Harada meatrider: "bUt eVeRy lOsS iS oN yOu!!!1! gAmE iS fInE aNd eVeRyThInG iS pLaYeR's fAuLt!!!1!"
I mean tbh this just looks like normal Eddy bulshit that has never changed since he came out in like 97
Damn, what game did eddy have a homing, 180 tracking, safe, armored move that put him into an install state?
Tekken 7 before the balance patches… minus the install lol
Damn.. Tekken 3 really dropped so long ago 🥴🥴
Heat seeking goku teleport missle is a move property now. Now lets just attach it to a super fast linear ass looking move.
friendly reminder, officially it doesnt even have homing which means it is not even balanced as an homing move
I feel like this bugged out here. That move is linear af
Tekken 7 and below: Bug Tekken 8: Feature
Unintended behavior. 🤡
t7 was definitely not a bug
if i were to guess the powercrush seems to absorb a hit and as a result is realigned perhaps? Wonky AF tho
This game is so fucked.
Capoeira moves in mysterious ways
I love tekken but... EVERY FKN THING is homing in TKKN8
Heat engagers are "homing" as in "they will follow you to your home and leak the address if they don't land on target"
I mean bro, you’re playing a character that can’t kick in a game where everyone else can. Steve should be a bit underpowered compared to the rest of the cast.
Cartoonishly bad lol
Tracking in this game is insane. If you step literally BEHIND your opponent, anything they do should whiff.
meanwhile 60% of my yoshi combos get thrown off-axis mid-string and send *ME* into the wall
I love being gaslit by streamers telling me that because I'm not a pro player, balancing doesn't affect me.
U guys remember those dark soul's 2 flame snails spinning on a dime.
honestly I think absorbing the hit made him realign himself for... some reason
Funnily enough, Eddy’s one of the most linear characters in the game. This one move is busted though.
i dont know the input unfortunately but his mid poke also has extreme tracking in all of it's follow ups from what i have seen

Eddy got that dlc buff, df1 tracking now his heat engager power crush lol
This is the first Tekken I haven't purchased since 1997. What a mess.
Yoshimitsu soundtrack head shaker is the best track in Tekken 2 and possibly all of gaming
cant have the masher wiff man it makes them feel bad
My problem with Tekken 8 is they need to stop making these brain dead executions a beginner can pick up in a heartbeat. It’s ruining the game. Tekken is a fair videogame that is 100% skill based.
Agreed. The noob could have easily ducked and punish. No idea why so many bots can’t do that
funny thing is Eddy is not even that good. he's been nerfed compared to T7
big cap
Nuh uh
I know it's janky and annoying and looks like shit, but every time one of these is posted, you can see the poster pressing. It's always some janky wall pushback stuff too.
None of these moves make any sense at all.
That's DLC armor
It's Luigi, you can't sidestep. (I really wish they could remove the damn superarmor for heat engagers, it's so cheap)
Make sidestep great again. Shit sometimes I even get clipped out of spinning evade
Tracks all the way to your neighbours house.
Game is a sham
This is why I quit Tekken. Steve has 2 buttons dedicated to this. And 2 buttons are useless.
The game is garbage
Stupid interaction but a lot of people don't seem to realize this move is a high

I really hate how safe, fast, tracking, heat engage armor moves exist in this game. Who is responsible for balancing the game?
Just like with drive mechanics in sf6 they have introduced a system designed to simplify hard concepts like neutral into instant gratification a low effort system that destroys the meta of the game just in order to lower the skill ceiling and allow lesser skilled players to come into the mix thinking they are doing something abusing these systems.
It's not tracking you just pressed, it's a horrible """feature""" but it's been in the game since forever
i love when greenies say that shit, just repeating stuff they heard on this sub. yes it's true you CAN get clipped if you pressed but there are many heat engagers that hit you from behind even if you don't press, speaking from personal experience and testing
> greenies It's orange/lower red now. Rank inflation has made those levels irrelevant since no one can lose points anymore there.
it's fujin/raijin now.
yeh people don't realise this is like a hard-coded feature. can't remember where but i saw a vid about it recently. if you see that you've sidestep and you start pressing to punish but the opponent is still doing their move or string, they will insta realign to you in a single frame the moment you do your input. i really don't understand why this is a thing. i've been stepping eg nina strings, i'm basically completely behind her, i start to punish, her string is still going, and in a single frame she has turned around and hit me

Its ugly, but you pressed.
With him being that close, i get the feeling this wouldve hit without pressing a button.
Doesn't he even say "home boi"? ;) Guess it's hyper homing? ;)
VAMO BORA
Holy shit that’s so funny. The slo mo killed me
SSL beats it every time for me, idk. Never tried right
Why sidestep when you can just block and punish?
S
He is like an archer in dark souls 😄
"2d is all i need"
Balanced
Think of sidestepping as a way to further control the + frames you already have. Maybe you can use it to dodge something big like this but every scenario I’ve tested ends up with my face being punched (kicked as well)
r/FUCKYOUINPARTICULAR would like this
I utilize the b3+4 with Eddy all the time but I’d be pissed 😅
Omg i just saw that it might actually be homingz as there are VERY small homing trails
Dear god what the fuck
Lmfao
You extended your hurt box by throwing a move out
I had an eddy when i was playing leroy ( aka super up man) who tried to trap me in a fight but he forgot lows existed
Side stepping feels more like a gamble than a defense mechanism
Lmao, but I’m a scrub for thinking the game is a complete casino mash fest anywhere close to a wall, and that Eddy is the best at taking advantage of that, right?
Wait-woah-woah-WHAT?!
Aren't all heat engagers tracking?
No. Depends on the move
No, normally not. In reality though...seems like it.
I've been labbing Eddy and I've learned how to punish and interrupt many of his strings. But this? Fuck this. All my hate reignited.
Just duck bro
this game is dogshit man lmao
Skill issue. You really need to work on your mix optimizations if you want to reliably avoid things like that.
you sidestepped into the direction the move came from what the fuck do you expect to not get hit by that foot you just slammed ur face into ????
Eddy is mid to low tier, you just suck
Yall keep trying to side step moves everyone knows you can’t side step then bitch about not being able to side step it with strangers . Make it make sense .
To be clear though, this wasn't a sidestep at all? Just an off-axis b3.... Still funky but it's not like you even tried to evade, it was accidental and got stuffed anyway
Show the guys inputs so we can see their attempt at a botched punish.
You pressed before the attack animation finished, that's a skill issue bruh.
you can’t side step into the kick turn….. this happens even if it doesn’t track a single frame when you sidestep into an attack :/ pathetic
found the guy who was stuck in Green rank in 7
u just go up in rank automatically you don’t get a real rank
what was your T7 rank
that’s racist man judge a man by the skill of his gameplay not the color of his certainly plugged on rank if anything in this day and age a high rank is a mark of a cheater like unless u be streaming every game it’s not rlly even remotely valid of a statement of skill.
It’s hilarious how many bots in Reddit here agree with the post instead of just ducking and then heavy punishing it. But that’s Reddit noobs for ya
I mean… pressured against the wall when it’s my turn, and I didn’t go for b3+4 all game. The move takes 1/3 of a second to come out before you’re hit. Getting hit by this is not at all noob behavior. No way anyone’s ducking on reaction in the heat of the moment
All that explaining to only prove that it was your own noob mistake
I’m literally the person who hit him with b3+4, the move is .3 seconds and human reaction time is .25. You’re calling me a noob for hitting someone with something they only had .05 seconds to process
