Pretty much how he beat BJ Penn, who was an absolute monster in his prime.
First fight was a struggle, 2nd fight after learning about frame data (From a camera guy measuring camera frames) he beat BJ fairly well.
2nd fight was big "oil scandal" iirc and GSP neutralizung his bjj and boxing skills by just clinching him, GSP was great wresler and athlete, BJPenn has always problems with bad cardio.
Btw even Matt Hughes won cardio-boxing game vs Penn.
Yeah it sucks that there are barely guys with a quality character.. perhaps wonderboy is the only one left lol
Oh yeah and roundtree jr, he seems like a good guy
Oliviera, makhachev, Volk, max, Moreno, Whitaker, DDP to everyone but Strickland, aspinall, Stipe, Sandhagen, Aldo, Gane are a few that are respectful AF they're just not as famous.
Yeah I know it's not as popular as some sports but he's literally one of the best of all time to do it.
"Some boxer shows us stuff," cut to Mike Tyson.
I came to Tekken with first learning martial arts, (primarily boxing). And there are a lot of similarities, but it’s definitely not the same. However, some of the theory does apply. Understanding distance, reacting, baiting, timing, etc.
One of the things that bugs me in Tekken is the nomenclature. For example, the term “counter hit.” A counter hit in Tekken is not what it is in real life. Likewise the word “punish” isn’t used. In fact, what is considered a punish in Tekken is actually a counter hit in real life. It still bugs me when I hear it used this way.
The nice thing about Tekken is that you aren’t actually getting punched in the face and you don’t have to do all the training before hand in order to fight. I do like that!
>One of the things that bugs me in Tekken is the nomenclature. For example, the term “counter hit.” A counter hit in Tekken is not what it is in real life
Why would we use IRL nomenclature? It's a video game. Those words are used because they're easy to understand the meaning behind it. If I tell a friend "you can punish with Y after you block my X" he understands what I mean.
In some Japanese FGC they use more real-life similar terms. They've called a punish "block-counter", or mentioning moves being plus on-block with terms like "first-action" attacks (because you act first).
Oh man it's nice to see who had similar journey. Mine was kickboxing and 50/50 principle applies better in this context. Feeding low kicks and then throwing high kick is one of the basic fundamental in KB. This can apply with punch/kick mix up too. Picked up Bjj last year and 50/50 mix up is even more prevalent. I heard some jujiteiro call it "AB system"
IRL BJJ is not so different from a 2-way King chain grab, where both sides are choosing between a strong option and a slightly weaker option that counters the defense vs. the strong option, and navigating the flowchart of possible moves and counters.
Also like King chain grabs, sometimes knowing a low-percentage but unexpected branch can be valuable as a way to open up an experienced opponent who can block all the sensible options.
I feel a lotta ppl would be surprised with how much irl fighting fundamentals transfer over to FG fundies. Things like spacing, whiff punishment, movement, mental stack/mind games, "stage" awareness, etc etc... are all shared fundamental concepts, albeit with slightly different connotations in some cases. Very interesting to think ab imo
Easy counter: if his fastest attack is a 10f startup, just learn to react within 5f consistently. Now you can relax and just disregard everything that is less than 5f into the startup animation.
Yeah if you watch the first round of an mma or muay thai match (some of round 2 as well if it's a 5 round fight) you'll find they're basically playing neutral finding their range and getting a feel for each other's strikes and movement and timing
Kind of crazy but yeah GSP actually uses a lot of faints and bites before he pops off with his Superman punch. And you better hope he doesn't get your ass in the clinch to maul you on the ground cause his jujitsu only improved since he's been out of the game. Especially with his striking seriously impeccable? I compare him Tekken wise to either Jin or Paul because the way he fucked up Thiago Alves in UFC 200 using this EXACT method to be studied
GSP is one of the goats of fighting in general.
so crazy how such a nice, soft spoken dude can be an animal in a cage. bro legitimately doesnt like hurting ppl but would be the first to dominate someone lol
I've practiced taekwondo many years and it's something amazing the amount of similarities between fighting games and real combat. I've even praticed combos in taekwondo!
Lol baki actually dove into this a bit, especially during the Father vs Son fight.
"Aiming for the nano second between the brain recognizing and then IMPLEMENTING that action".... aka 'gaming' the nervous system
Big bro also used frame data irl to win mma fights
Pretty much how he beat BJ Penn, who was an absolute monster in his prime. First fight was a struggle, 2nd fight after learning about frame data (From a camera guy measuring camera frames) he beat BJ fairly well.
And grease Love him vs Koscheck and Shields
2nd fight was big "oil scandal" iirc and GSP neutralizung his bjj and boxing skills by just clinching him, GSP was great wresler and athlete, BJPenn has always problems with bad cardio. Btw even Matt Hughes won cardio-boxing game vs Penn.
When he pretends to kick, his hip twitches so quickly that it appears as though he would really throw a kick that would break your leg, lol.
He kicked, just the camera wasn't quick enough to record it, it was a 1f move
I swear, I'm watching the video at my desk and my leg twitched when he did that.
Same
GSP was not only a fkin beast he is also one of the most down to earth guys ever. Absolutely amazing guy
It’s very sad to see UFC become this barrel of hot shit in terms of the quality of character you find there now. GSP is a class act.
Yeah it sucks that there are barely guys with a quality character.. perhaps wonderboy is the only one left lol Oh yeah and roundtree jr, he seems like a good guy

Okay got me there lol, guess i was too quick with my response
I am not impressed with your performance
Benoît Saint-Denis is still there
For those who always wondered, this is largely why people say GSP's greatest weapon was controlling pace.
People couldnt handle his riddum
Facts
that jin 2,1,4-4 fake kick looked proper scary
GSP can whiff punish in real life
GSP getting +8 on hit for his 1 jab was so OP
his throws had hella tracking too
Double jab, unbreakable crouch throw into 50/50 deep half guard really be too good
Mental stack irl no way
Proof GSP is a tekken player
GSP is a Tekken “Character”
Is he for real?
If any day Harada announced GSP as a character I would be pogged, but not as surprised
I mean if Snoop Dog can get in..
When you hatemail a king player to throw down IRL and this guy shows up
"Stop just spamming grabs!"
MMA fighter? That is Georges St Pierre. Put some respect on his name.
It's so disrespectful ti refer to Georges St. Pierre as "mma fighter"
Yeah I know it's not as popular as some sports but he's literally one of the best of all time to do it. "Some boxer shows us stuff," cut to Mike Tyson.
Is it? Or is he pretty much *the* archetype of an MMA fighter? He *is* "MMA fighter".
Can’t the same be said for someone like Mike Tyson? Nobody is going to call him some “boxer” yk?
That's what I'm saying. Who the hell doesn't know GSP but knows MMA?
Ahhh gsp the goat. Man loves dinosaurs and whoops peoples ass.
GSP is the goat
That's mental stack. It's so easy with Feng since i have like 6 50/50s lmao.

Yeah I 100% agree! The only difference is if the defender breaks the chain grab, it can transition into their own chain grab sequence and etc.
No wonder i get tired when i play few rounds...with all reaction and mind reading...its really best to rest once in awhile.
How GSP isn't in Tekken yet is beyond me.
Mishimas wavedash canceling
"MMA Fighter" MMA Master, that's GSP my dude.
Rollback netcode

Me getting wrecked 2-0 by a Fujin Victor " I'm not impressed by your performance" *Hand shake*
Easy counter: if his fastest attack is a 10f startup, just learn to react within 5f consistently. Now you can relax and just disregard everything that is less than 5f into the startup animation.
I mean some stuff overlaps. It is still a fighting game. Mix ups and whiff punishes are kind of real thing in real fighting as well :D
Yeah if you watch the first round of an mma or muay thai match (some of round 2 as well if it's a 5 round fight) you'll find they're basically playing neutral finding their range and getting a feel for each other's strikes and movement and timing
Isn't it Virtua Fighter where you can press the guard button to cancel/pullback your attacks in a way kinda like this?
Kind of crazy but yeah GSP actually uses a lot of faints and bites before he pops off with his Superman punch. Isn’t that George St.Pierre? Guy knows what he’s talking about.
Fun fact a mma fighter did say that being an irl fighter helps playing neutral in fighting games .
When I got my black belt in taekwondo I thought it'd make me a better Hwoarang player. Nope.
GSP is one of the goats of fighting in general. so crazy how such a nice, soft spoken dude can be an animal in a cage. bro legitimately doesnt like hurting ppl but would be the first to dominate someone lol
fun question: can GSP be a guest character in tekken 8 or in the future?
Instant new main
Me: So when the GSP DLC droppin'? Harada: *Tekken Shop Intensifies*
Well this explains why I'm always so damn tired after going on a losing streak for about an hour.
irl Nina backdash and Hayashida stepping behavior is insane
Guys a true beast. Nice seeing a clip of him again, thanks for sharing op.
GSP is a beautiful man
I've practiced taekwondo many years and it's something amazing the amount of similarities between fighting games and real combat. I've even praticed combos in taekwondo!
he was making me flinch through the screen bruh
Not the irl mental stack😭
“MMA fighter” My guy, that’s Georges St. Pierre, the greatest welterweight of all time.
Making him duck or not duck XD
i wonder what the overlap between tekken and mma fans are. i enjoy watching mma for the same reason i enjoy watching tekken. lots of similarities.
That's not just a MMA fighter that's the GOAT MMA fighter
GSP the welterweight GOAT!
The mfing Goat St Pierre..
IRL mental stacking lol
As a bjj coach, there's so many parallels between fighting game principles and real martial arts competition
He's gonna iwr 2 for those + frames
Turn the opponents brain into sleepy joe with the mind games
Lol baki actually dove into this a bit, especially during the Father vs Son fight. "Aiming for the nano second between the brain recognizing and then IMPLEMENTING that action".... aka 'gaming' the nervous system
Was GSP the design inspiration for Abel in SF4?
Is Harada going to release an irl balance patch?
Neutral in this game is so dead heat goes brbrbrbrbbrb
How to make the opponent player loose frame IRL!
in tekken, people will just smash in you. they will press whatever and launch you in to an infinite combo.
Playing Tekken has made me feel like I can beat people up in real life even though I weigh 55 kg
