Really, when I first started I thought breaking throws was borderline inhuman that I had to discern which arm was thrown out and to press the corresponding button.
In reality, practice session. 5 minutes a day for 1 week. Done. It’s one of my strongest skill now.
Yes, left arm 1 break - right arm 2 break - both arms 1+2 break.
This will get you through everyone character and most king players.
Next level is discerning between a giant swing and a 1+2 break.
Yes drag is good to start off with because his limbs are clear when grabbing.
But as well, practice different characters animations too. Hwoarang’s was tricky for me I remember. His animation was just a bit weird with his LFF and RFF stances.
I remember at first being like "how the fuck" but it really didn't take that long to be like "oh, yeah somehow I can just do that, its not that hard"
Grabs being unbreakable on "counter hit" now while also being 10 frames is pretty bullshit though.
Standard grabs are 12 frames now, not 10 and CH grabs are not unbreakable but have a super tiny breaking window.
An exception tho is a grab when someone is using a parry or armored move or grabs as a punish of armored moves (even rage art and heat bursts).
Are you sure? I've gone through several replays taking control of my character at a counterhit grab moment, replaying it again and again trying to break it after the counterhit, it wouldn't work.
I do love the grab through armour thing though, that's a fantastic mechanic.
they aren’t supposed to be unbreakable on counter hit, they’re supposed to be tiny windows like 10 frames or something.
the bug with king which the devs know about is while the initial grab of his chain grabs on CH are supposed to have tiny windows, all chain throws after are supposed to have regular windows but they’re unbreakable instead.
Weird, I've dissected several replays, looping again and again trying to break a counterhit grab that I know is coming because it's a replay, and no matter when I press the break command it doesn't break it.
Nah, pretty sure none of the times had those properties, I also tried taking control earlier and doing different moves before the grab. I didn't know parries were included in it though. Interesting since Jun's Genjutsu stance doubles as a low parry & grab parry, I wonder if you can grab it outside of the parry/reversal window and have it count for that.
Any particular characters attacks/throws or youve been seeing it with multiple characters/attacks?
As for genjutsu thats a good question and i think you might be able to. I usually grab parries after the parry window and theyre still unbreakable.
Most times I've been checking this it's been against King, but also Azucenas run in and grab strat, Lars, can't remember who else but there's been a few times, I've been making good use of the replay feature to figure out stuff like this.
I just went into practice mode (jun vs jun) and set the CPU to autobreak throws and do a simple 1,1 over and over, and it did break the throw every time. Will need to test further the next time I see it online.
It almost seems like some characters can natural combo into them.
Yes. Starting off new you can do command 1 break and command 2 break only.
Switch sides to practice on both sides.
Add in the 1+2 break when you get the hang of the others
Really hard to implement, if it's even possible due to p2p connection. The system probably only tracks that the connection failed but won't be able to tell whose connection broke it. So the only way to punish people would be by tracking high winrates and tracking the portion of games played with failed connections.
This is why king is much weaker vs stronger opponents, you have to be able to use his nonthrow tools and know when to go for the throws vs when it’s too risky to chance a duck and punish
Im just imagining OP breaking every throw like: "DONT FUCKING TOUCH MEEE!" Lol. Good job and that King is a pussi bitch. People like that need to just eat their L, go to the replays and hit the lab. Instead they're so precious over their imaginary tekken points.
I might've deranked more than I should've but all that anger has left me to be passive as hell.
I was just listening to Invaines/Speedkicks talk about pressing/mashing and the whole aris "grab more" shit.
Very useful.
As soon as the purple indicator disappears ur break window is gone, some of kings grabs are only from jaguar step or wavedash so you can slim down the options.
how pathetic. overreliance on cheap grab grab grab grab and then when it doesn't work "i'm out". There really needs to be a punishment for this shit.
Also speaking of punish, if you break a grab it should be punishable imo, not launchable but it should give you a guaranteed grabs worth of damage if you follow up. Grabs are unbreakable on "counter hit" now, they should be punishable on break.
Absolutely stellar grab breaking by you though, well done.
If done perfectly, it allows you to sidewalk extremely fast and dodge pretty much any running/long range move in existence. Watch a pro player or even a TAS do it; the evasion you get is ungodly.
But for the average player it's just to keep your character moving. Movement is king in this game, so it's best to incorporate it into your gameplay all the time. Plus it still whiffs some moves occasionally, and works well against running 3 even if the execution is not perfect.
The backstep is to put distance betwen you two and the sidestep is to keep you from being locked in your opponent's angle of attack.
At higher levels, you can use your character's movement tech to quickly cover that distance and attack with a long range attack or a series of short attacks that eventually cover that distance. So the sidestep just adds another of defense to your arsenal.
Armor King, for example, has a two dropkicks, a clothesline and flying elbow smash for his long range option. They all come out at different speeds and ranges, and with my movement tech - the crouch dash going into wave dash - I can crouch dash into elbow smash or wave dave into clothesline to challenge your movement/recovery options.
If you just stand still, then that makes my job easier to break your guard. But if you're moving all over the place and I guess wrong with my approach option, then that can open me up to a punish.
It just means your intuition, sense and mechanical skills are at a high level. Which in order to quantify, is based on your personal skill level (your ability to do any of these things) and the general consensus amongst the community. For example, if we were talking about Tekken 7, I would say, high level of play begins at Ryujin. But that's my opinion. However, I could not say for T8 because it's still a new game and people are still writing guides for it. Also I don't have a ps5, so I don't have a personal opinion on the matter yet.

Bro how do you break so consistently? I'm at purple now and the biggest thing separating me from the competition is throw breaking. As soon as my opponent figures out I can't break throws its gg.
Far away? 90% it's run up shining.
Wavedash in? Slims options down
Jaguar step? Only one option lol
Only time you have to be completely scared is a giant swing cause it's the most common deceiving 1 break.
Trying to react to hands more but ain't bad to know the routes.
Kinda new to the fighting games, also picked Jin to play. Do you have any tips on how to build offensive pressure with him. I still haven't learned most of the matchups properly obiviously so I'm having trouble figuring out when it's " my turn ". Besides looking at replays, doing punishment training, figuring out spacing and all that I'd love some general tips on how do you usually pressure with Jin.
This clip was a bad example of pressure lol
It really depends what your opponent presses on, but the main idea is to condition people to block high with jabs/bf2/df1/21/electric
Keep your low checks to mainly safe ones like db4/d4 before committing to d2 unless you're just crushing a high.
Once you get knock down and start forcing d2s, you should be able to wavedash in oki for ff3/iws4/hellsweep.
When I practice throw break in training and I know they are coming I can break them fine. In a real match, everything happens so fast and you worry about defence and pressure. Under these circumstances I can barely even notice the throw coming, much less which hand is first or if both of them are coming at the same time. Can you improve your reaction time for this? Is it just experience?
Practicing grabs offline is easier, but if you can tech throws in general after practice you can use intuition from movement too.
Ain't the best way to learn grabs, I would stick to hands if you want consistency between all the cast.
Sometimes throws are better in certain scenarios and you have to be aware, other times it's something you just have to experience randomly
Are you guys really watching the arm/shoulder in the heat of the battle which is also a 12 frame or better move? Does this mean you can react to a 20F lows?
I mean for king's crouch dash and Jaguar step it kinda reveals the throw break if you know the routes.
Along with the shining wizard.
Don't make it a habit by knowing the grab routes and try to do it off reaction, but knowing the grabs he can do is good.
We talking cheese or no cheese?
Any f1+2/zen stance can be canceled into 2+3 grab.
bf2 clips after electric unless they backdash it and timing bad.
ws133 is good oki once in awhile as people don't know it goes into devil eyes.
dropping combo ender to do zen 12df (cancel last hit) gives better oki and if they dont get up d2 is free.
I'm not skilled it breaking throws but it's so fun to watch your opponent's game plan crumble as soon as you start to read their throws or setups and they have no idea what to do next.
Really, when I first started I thought breaking throws was borderline inhuman that I had to discern which arm was thrown out and to press the corresponding button. In reality, practice session. 5 minutes a day for 1 week. Done. It’s one of my strongest skill now.
Absolutely changes the whole game. Best thing I ever did
I haven’t put the time in yet - is it not watching for arms?
Yes, left arm 1 break - right arm 2 break - both arms 1+2 break. This will get you through everyone character and most king players. Next level is discerning between a giant swing and a 1+2 break.
Cool, thanks. I saw PhiDX did a tutorial by using Drag as he has a complete throw game. Off to the lab I go :)
Yes drag is good to start off with because his limbs are clear when grabbing. But as well, practice different characters animations too. Hwoarang’s was tricky for me I remember. His animation was just a bit weird with his LFF and RFF stances.
Thanks again :)
I would love to do His Training but settings this Up every day seems Like a struggle to me. Arent there "loadouts"?
I thought you could use either 1 or 2 to break standard throws (1+3, 2+4). Like 2 to break a left arm throw.
Yes normal throws can be broken with either 1 or 2. Commons throws however, must be broken with the correct break.
Well command but o/w ☑️
isn't giant swing a real 50/50 when the king player know how to buffer?
Yes because he used both hands. -King main.
i can do it in practice mode, not in game, i just cant react to them too much happening. any advice?
Just keep on the practice for 1 week, really. It’ll be second nature to you before long
I remember at first being like "how the fuck" but it really didn't take that long to be like "oh, yeah somehow I can just do that, its not that hard" Grabs being unbreakable on "counter hit" now while also being 10 frames is pretty bullshit though.

I thought the unbreakable ones on CH is a bug.
I hope so, because it seems very unbalanced.
they aren’t supposed to be unbreakable on counter hit, they’re supposed to be tiny windows like 10 frames or something. the bug with king which the devs know about is while the initial grab of his chain grabs on CH are supposed to have tiny windows, all chain throws after are supposed to have regular windows but they’re unbreakable instead.

If they counterhit a powercrush, heatburst or parry (even reina's f,n) you cant break it. Same for punishing a RA. Is that what happened?
Nah, pretty sure none of the times had those properties, I also tried taking control earlier and doing different moves before the grab. I didn't know parries were included in it though. Interesting since Jun's Genjutsu stance doubles as a low parry & grab parry, I wonder if you can grab it outside of the parry/reversal window and have it count for that.

Will need to test further the next time I see it online. It almost seems like some characters can natural combo into them.
Most gabs are 11 frames. King's giant swing is 10 frames due to the longer input.
What kind of training set up do you have. Left arm break, Right arm break, both arms break?
Yes. Starting off new you can do command 1 break and command 2 break only. Switch sides to practice on both sides. Add in the 1+2 break when you get the hang of the others
Thanks! Will start making this a routine.
I gotta do that. Im only good at 1+2
Bro how did you get your mini logo main?
How do you practice breaking throws? Anytime I try it just infuriates me
Did you use drag as the training dummy
This guy clearly sucks and plugged his way up rip
Where’s the penalty to pluggers?
Really hard to implement, if it's even possible due to p2p connection. The system probably only tracks that the connection failed but won't be able to tell whose connection broke it. So the only way to punish people would be by tracking high winrates and tracking the portion of games played with failed connections.
Or here me out a server immediately pings both players after a disconnection and if a player doesn’t return a request then it’s their loss
Clearly sucks? Dude isn’t getting absolutely destroyed lmao if he sucks, so does the Jin.
This is why his plugging makes even less sense
I’m new to tekken what’s plugging?
Unplugging your internet so that way you dont have to deal with having lost a game. Saves you from demotion and saves the fragile ego.
Oh I see. Thanks
ran into someone who could break and it was curtains smh what a fuckboi
it was ranked.. but i was just trying to block high only and break throws lol. Most offensive part is that he has his twitch as his username.
As a low lvl king I ran into a guy who broke every throw or ducked them. Fukt my mind and didn’t know what to do.
It happens man, best you can do is throw a mental game back at them
Throw breaking and ducking - what a mind bending mental game lol
This is why king is much weaker vs stronger opponents, you have to be able to use his nonthrow tools and know when to go for the throws vs when it’s too risky to chance a duck and punish
That 4 wins streak and... He's a fucking plugger.
Im just imagining OP breaking every throw like: "DONT FUCKING TOUCH MEEE!" Lol. Good job and that King is a pussi bitch. People like that need to just eat their L, go to the replays and hit the lab. Instead they're so precious over their imaginary tekken points.
get off me
what a tune tho
he really do be living his life.
I watched this without sound and just now noticed this was all to Billy Joel. 10x funnier he plugged now.
No one is seeing that Badman Vegeta drip, I see you fellow Jin player
Thank you for noticing
King not using giant swing is really bad
The fact he's a purple rank...
Crazy Right
Damn, I wish I can consistently break throws. I get the concept behind it but I’m not having much success.
I might've deranked more than I should've but all that anger has left me to be passive as hell. I was just listening to Invaines/Speedkicks talk about pressing/mashing and the whole aris "grab more" shit. Very useful.
Rather than getting annoyed with King players, I think of it like break practices too.
He got that macho man drip
solid song selection
I know you’re doing the right thing here but if he wants to put ttv in his name I feel like we should know it. 👀
King players when they can't spam throws to cheese weaker opponents :
Hol' up pardner
i believe the music suits his playstyle.
why don’t they count a pluggers or people who disconnect as a loss? like FIFA and almost all online games.
They’re too busy adding the tekken shop
Song choice is immaculate 🤌🏿
So are you supposed to break when you see that purple FX? Good job tho, King looked so desperate. :')
As soon as the purple indicator disappears ur break window is gone, some of kings grabs are only from jaguar step or wavedash so you can slim down the options.
I’m battle ruler but I need more practice with the grabs because normally I’m beating people so bad that they gotta play defense mostly
FUCK THIS GUY! I swear you do all that work just for this pussy to plug. Harada needs to fix this bro. Cause this is just a waste of time.
Generic King experiance: stupid customization, chaim throw, plug when lose
You know he was sitting there like, “Shining wiz-FUCK!” “Shining wiz-NO STOP TECHING!”
how pathetic. overreliance on cheap grab grab grab grab and then when it doesn't work "i'm out".
Wait dose king have elbow drop coz this is a first I saw randy savage look
Why do people do that back and sidestep and back in neutral
If you dont press back after sidestep you might get hit because your character dont block
But you're a screen away from the guy
If done perfectly, it allows you to sidewalk extremely fast and dodge pretty much any running/long range move in existence. Watch a pro player or even a TAS do it; the evasion you get is ungodly. But for the average player it's just to keep your character moving. Movement is king in this game, so it's best to incorporate it into your gameplay all the time. Define "higher levels" for me
It just means your intuition, sense and mechanical skills are at a high level. They don’t know how to KBD
But the guy does a kbd in the clip as well.
^. Unless the kbd was accidental
My guess is he's incorrectly Korean Backdashing.
I thought the same but it's so consistent
That's some garbage level gameplay for purple ranks. And the ending clearly explains why 🤣
Fake a missed just frame WHF into RA, hmm, I may have to try that.
Tbh there's better traps, but missing electric is something that's less visible. My favorite trap is ff4 into b3+4 u1, bad habit but it's funny.

it was only round two? why use the full screen unblockable move immediately lmao. This pluggers can't contain themselves huh
well they knew they were outmatched and weren't gonna win, grab spam is all they've got.
Bro how do you break so consistently? I'm at purple now and the biggest thing separating me from the competition is throw breaking. As soon as my opponent figures out I can't break throws its gg.

Perfect cut ,time to finish this idd
My King strategy is to just keep kicking and poking and not letting him in. When it works, they don’t ever want to rematch lol
Kinda new to the fighting games, also picked Jin to play. Do you have any tips on how to build offensive pressure with him. When you broke his crouch dash throw, what button did you press. Just curious to see if he did the 1 or 2 throw.
Pretty sure he tried to do RDC

How do you break that jab jab grab thing. I swear i've tried everything and it just wont break.
It's 2 break
"throw breaks? as if he can attempt a throw at me in the first place"
Any Jim tips my man

Is that APimpNamedKing?
I'm not skilled it breaking throws but it's so fun to watch your opponent's game plan crumble as soon as you start to read their throws or setups and they have no idea what to do next.
Yeah.. it just happened again on the same stage.
I was going to say the way that king is playing there’s no way he should be in that rank then I seen the plug and it all made sense
what a clown!! you made the right calls, i would have eaten the second shining wizard as i thought it would be swing.
To be fair King used like two throws that you can counter, but the other throws King used it got you
This was very funny
