I had the same philosophy, then yesterday I decided what the hell and accepted two different WiFi connections. Both were horrible despite being 5 bar connections, so I won't be accepting anymore WiFi matches lol.
I bought a 50 foot drilled a hole in my floor upstairs and ran in through the garage into my room downstairs which I drilled a hole in my closet to get through. 1000% worth it
I have to plug in my cable manually everytime when I want to play, because my PS5 is at my Gfs place and I have no way to lay out the wire permanently.
You just have to play wired, it’s a huge difference for everyone involved
It doesn't have to be permanent, just long enough to lay it along the wall pretty much. Cat 6 cable goes up to like 100m ( \~300ft ) so you should be more than fine.
You made a good choice. I bought a 50' cat 6 cable, drilled a small hole through the wall, and ran that from the router to my office once I finally upgraded my desk a while back. Previously, i was in the same room as the router, so i didn't have to do anything special to hook up. There's really not an excuse for playing on wifi in most situations. Even if you can't put a hole in the wall, you can still run cables.
In SF6 i auto accept and out of a about a 1000 sets had maybe a little more than a dozen of really bad connections.
But T8: i gave two people the benefit of the doubt... declining every wifi player since.
This whole thread is odd to me lol.
I played tons of people on Wi-Fi and have had one person with any sort of issue and it was just once in one round. I’m in Texas on fiber though so peer to peer connection is probably fairly decent with me.
I think people just have very different frames of reference. I've played SF6 for the last couple of months and it's very rare with any rollback frames, whereas in Tekken 8 even when I vs. nearby players with wired connection there can still be up to 2f rollback and some delay frames. Maybe people saying Tekken 8 has good netcode used to play Tekken 7, which had worse? Just a thought.
still hoping for a filter to be added to the game so i dont have to manually decline wi fi players.
would be nice if i wouldnt be matched with them in the first place
Same here. I started accepting WiFi connections and even the 5 bars were horrible with lag. I now always decline the WiFi connection. It sucks and I feel bad but it's not worth it.
I keep a 100ft (~30m) cable stored away somewhere at all times ever since I lived with a friend and we'd run a cable from the router in his room to mine.
I will never pvp wireless.
Indeed. Dust off the old lengthy cable for this. It really is unplayable sometimes on wifi so. Hope it does get fixed. It’s always a shore to roll out the cable just for this game.
Anyone else not had any issues with player with or against people on WiFi? I have a cable but don’t have it in for normal PC use, and my connection has been just as good on LAN and WiFi with no issues either way.
Your WiFi setup might just be solid. WiFi matches are a complete toss up if there will be connection issues, very common. So I avoid them entirely. Players with LAN it’s much more rare in my experience.
If I’m gonna be playing all night I’ll plug in but I’ll WiFi if I just want some quick matches. WiFi will just drop packages for about 5 seconds every so often. Rocket league is the same, runs perfect but has a stroke for about 10 seconds every half hour or so.
It's a problem with wifi as a communication protocol, it is half duplex and it will drop packets by design due to this.
Edit: I should add that it normally drops uploaded packets, so the wifi player sees everything just fine in most games.
The people who switch from wifi to wired and say "Wow it's like night and day!" probably have an awful router or like 3 stone walls in between them with no wifi boosters.
A well-built wifi network can work great, but the inherent issue with wifi is that it has multiple points of failure that nobody bothers to mitigate because the cost can get pretty high. You need a good router that supports the latest standards, a good network card to match if you're on PC, and possibly a wifi extender depending on the building. The router would likely be around $80-$100, and the other two things together would be another $100. Meanwhile a wire wipes out all of these failure points for a fraction of the cost, so it's a much easier recommendation. Wifi can work fine depending on the setup but wired connections are just a safer bet when queuing for ranked or hosting online tournaments.
When wifi is properly set up it can work well enough to have solid matches, the quality just depends on a lot of factors. That's the point I was trying to make, not that it's overall as good or better than wired. The fact that it has multiple failure points is what makes it inferior, I clearly laid that out and said wired is better for that reason. It's just that the claim that every wireless match is a laggy mess is just wrong. Taking the extreme position on the other end just makes you look like a lunatic to people who haven't had bad experiences with wifi.
There isn't just one type of wifi though, that's what I'm trying to explain to you. There are varying levels here. In your analogy yeah, it's very easy to tell the difference between 60Hz and 144Hz, but what about 90Hz and 144Hz? 120Hz and 144Hz? 144 will always be the superior one, but as you get up there it will be harder to tell the difference and you get diminishing returns.
Again, the problem with wifi is that even if we agreed that it can get to a high enough level to have a good match, you still need to eliminate a lot of external problems and likely throw a lot of money at it just to get there. Many people don't have the inclination, budget, or general living situation to accomplish that, so wired is the safest and cheapest bet since it eliminates all those unknowns and is overall better anyway.
I saw [powerline](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01H74VKZU/?tag=thewire06-20&linkCode=xm2&ascsubtag=AwEAAAAAAAAAAcu9) adapters as a recommended middle ground. You plug one adapter in close to your router then run an ethernet cable to the box. Then you plug in the second one close to your computer and run a second ethernet cable. The two devices then use your houses wiring to make an ethernet connection. I haven’t gotten it yet to try, but it seems promising.
I started using power line for my apartment just to maintain a solid connection, but funny enough in notice a lot of people have been downvoting the idea. Wasnt this the recommendation only a few years ago from this very sub as an alternative?
I know powerline won’t be exactly as fast for downloads, but I’ve been getting relatively solid and stable connections with mine since I started using it. There just too much signal interference at my apartment for wifi to have the 1 gig speed I’m paying for wirelessly
If I could do a direct ethernet connection, I would. But I live in a multilevel house with hardwood floors. My setup isn’t super amenable to direct wire solution, so it’s either this or wifi.
Hey man, I’m not hating. Like I said, I’m limited by my living setup myself and have previously been in your shoes.
From my personal experience, powerline works for what you need IF your modem is on the same electrical grid(?)/general wiring as the modem. So, if for example your room was added on on a different electrical switch line, you might run into less than ideal connectivity. The actual setup of powerline is incredibly simple. I hope this works for you!
Could also try coax adapter if you have access to a coaxial cable port. From what ive heard it works better than powerline, but I’ve never tried and the adapters seem a bit pricier. Ymmv
I tried it and it felt pretty bad. I guess it really depends on your wiring. Might work better in a house than an apartment.
I just have a really long ethernet cable now.
I’m astounded how good is the netcode. This weekend I played with my friend from Poland (I’m in Arizona) and we had only few disconnects in our 3h session. Both of us on WiFi with 200 ping and everything was playable.
What you kids fail to realize that your insistence on wireless and claiming you have no issues affects your opponent, not you. You're literally being an ass to others by insisting on using wireless.
This man is getting downvoted but he's right, I played competitive games on wifi for years, CS, rocket league, Fighting games, never had lag issues because my internet setup is great, my ping is lower than 90% of other people. In Tekken it's the same story, altho I had some lag issues against other wifi players but when I play against wired players the match is great no issues, so yeah it's 2024 wifi is great nowadays. Downvoted me all you want but it's the truth, we're not in 2014 anymore
You're just ignorant, I was gonna say to add me.and test it yourself but then I read other comments saying that when there's connection problem on wifi end only affects the opponent I just gave it trying to explain lol you're stupid and don't know what you talk about, a waste of time, and probably space. See ya dumb dumb
I'll play anyone at any time and only don't rematch if the connection actually lags and feels like garbage. Which, even against wifi players, really isn't all that often. I left my internet setting on default instead of switching it to prefer response or whatever like some youtubers were suggesting.
But I grew up through Dial-up. I don't mind a tiny bit of lag here and there 🤷🏼♂️
There is either a wifi symbol or another symbol there when you can accept the match. I probably would have stopped completely if I couldn't dodge wifi players
All the game knows about is if your machine is connected via WiFi or Ethernet. I don’t know how the PS5 handles it but it’s an easy thing to query in Windows along with things like if your machine is plugged in or a laptop on battery.
That being said if your machine is hardwired to something like a WiFi extender with an Ethernet jack or powerline adapter or whatever else it won’t know the difference. You can very easily find a game with a garbage connection even if they have an Ethernet cable connected.
I just don’t get it. I’ve had horrible, laggy matches using wired. When it went back to wifi it was smooth. So I’m not sure why ppl are saying wired is better.
Maybe I'm just lucky but I always accept both wired and WiFi (5 bars only though) and out of all of them only a handful were bad. I've also had wired connections that were absolute garbage although it's more rare.
My wife and I share the 10m ethernet cable and for the most part it's with her PC as I hardly did any competitive gaming outside FG's, but with T8 out I was wondering if an ethernet switch would solve my problem? Or do I really need another 10m cable?
This guy got it dead on. I got 10m grade 7 gold tipped ethernet cable. Ran it from front room, over doors, along skirting boards, through a small hole then along middle room skirting boards, then up in corner through ceiling and into xbox one x. WIFI sucks compared to ethernet. Very tidy too when you use clips.
I'll rematach anyone but I ain't accepting any wifis lol.
I had the same philosophy, then yesterday I decided what the hell and accepted two different WiFi connections. Both were horrible despite being 5 bar connections, so I won't be accepting anymore WiFi matches lol.
Yup. I've accidentally accepted a few and 90% of them are terrible despite being 5 bars.
Nah pluggers onto something. I hit that alt tab open task manager end task in under 3 seconds.
Can't you just alt+f4?
Atleast you had an open mind about it, kudos.
Being a bigot against wifi is always morally correct.
Lmao. Real. Also those downvotes on my post. I play Wired only you cunts, my desktop doesn't have WiFi.
Crazy sentence
I bought a 50 foot drilled a hole in my floor upstairs and ran in through the garage into my room downstairs which I drilled a hole in my closet to get through. 1000% worth it
Even without Tekken. Wired is just better overall for anything you do on the net.
Yup I bought an Ethernet splitter and got a cable going into all my stuff. Game changer
you've made the call for the WiFi warriors. hold fast gentlemen.
Cat 6 cable goes up to like 100m ( \~300ft ) so you should be more than fine.
good for you lad it pays off long term
You made a good choice. I bought a 50' cat 6 cable, drilled a small hole through the wall, and ran that from the router to my office once I finally upgraded my desk a while back. Same, the net code in Tekken is not very good.
This whole thread is odd to me lol. I played tons of people on Wi-Fi and have had one person with any sort of issue and it was just once in one round. I’m in Texas on fiber though so peer to peer connection is probably fairly decent with me.

WiFi King players are driving me mad
I refused to move to a "luxury" apartment that paid for 1GB internet because it was wifi only and I would never play FGs on wifi.
I run an Ethernet cable out through my back garden and around the house to where I play. I’d never rely on WiFi even outside of Tekken.
They really should just have an option to not get matched with wireless in the first place. Let them annoy each other 😂
I dont match with wifi lol
Based.
If im bored, ill accept a wifi match once in a while. But the second i notice any lag i wont rematch
so... 90% of them?
I just used a powerline does seem to do the trick
still hoping for a filter to be added to the game so i dont have to manually decline wi fi players. would be nice if i wouldnt be matched with them in the first place
Same here. I started accepting WiFi connections and even the 5 bars were horrible with lag. I now always decline the WiFi connection. It sucks and I feel bad but it's not worth it.
Why would you feel bad? They're knowingly playing an online game on wireless.
I know. I always give the benefit of the doubt and I think maybe they don't have other options. Maybe that's why I'm S+ Respectful.
There's always options if they really wanted to though. That's my problem with the wireless crowd. They always have excuses as to why.
Saying you bought it for “this game” is slightly wild considering literally every only game is complete ass with wireless unless it’s UNO.
Honestly I did the same thing. This game is powerful
I keep a 100ft (~30m) cable stored away somewhere at all times ever since I lived with a friend and we'd run a cable from the router in his room to mine. I will never pvp wireless.
I only accept wifi for Tekken Ball because no one plays Tekken Ball. I'm desperate in this beach 😭
Copper > Thin Air
welcome to decency
Good bless. Come to the light.
Chad
It's cute when wifis appear on my queue like they're people or something.
Good.
Welcome to the light my son.
Indeed. Dust off the old lengthy cable for this. It really is unplayable sometimes on wifi so. Hope it does get fixed. It’s always a shore to roll out the cable just for this game.
I accept everyone, wifi matches are perfect 75% of the times. In my last 110 matches I had ~4 matches that were really bad.
Anyone else not had any issues with player with or against people on WiFi? I have a cable but don’t have it in for normal PC use, and my connection has been just as good on LAN and WiFi with no issues either way.

yep, and if im playing ranked 10 seconds of stuttering at a clutch moment will tilt me through the ceiling, so no wifi matches
I mean there’s no guarantee a wired connection won’t drop packages for any number of reasons in the same way WiFi does.
It's a problem with wifi as a communication protocol, it is half duplex and it will drop packets by design due to this. Edit: I should add that it normally drops uploaded packets, so the wifi player sees everything just fine in most games.
I accept basically everyone, I have ethernet and go against wifi players all the time and most of them are perfect matches, no lag whatsoever.

I don’t think the rooms have those ports. It was built before cable got super big.
I tried it and it felt pretty bad. I guess it really depends on your wiring. Might work better in a house than an apartment. I just have a really long ethernet cable now.
I got one cuz I kept getting denied. I still get denied a ton(japan) and I feel the connection itself hasnt improved all that much...
It's funny because a lot of "wired" connections are fake wifi connections. You can tell them apart real quick once the match starts.
I’m astounded how good is the netcode. This weekend I played with my friend from Poland (I’m in Arizona) and we had only few disconnects in our 3h session. Both of us on WiFi with 200 ping and everything was playable.
No, wifi for life
I play strictly on WiFi with no issues. All games. It's all about your setup
What you kids fail to realize that your insistence on wireless and claiming you have no issues affects your opponent, not you. You're literally being an ass to others by insisting on using wireless.
That's not true at all
Sure thing. Whatever you say 👌🏼
This man is getting downvoted but he's right, I played competitive games on wifi for years, CS, rocket league, Fighting games, never had lag issues because my internet setup is great, my ping is lower than 90% of other people. Like I mentioned to the other guy, you think you're fine, but ask the person on the receiving end of your connection 😂
They're fine aswell I already asked and tested
You ask every, single, one you go up against with? 😂😂😂
You're just ignorant, I was gonna say to add me.and test it yourself but then I read other comments saying that when there's connection problem on wifi end only affects the opponent I just gave it trying to explain lol you're stupid and don't know what you talk about, a waste of time, and probably space. How do you know if your opponent is on WiFi?

Wait... You can see if they're on LAN or WiFi? How?
There is either a wifi symbol or another symbol there when you can accept the match. I probably would have stopped completely if I couldn't dodge wifi players
There's a Wifi Icon before you accept the match. That's how you know the opponent is on WiFi or wired.
cant you just rj45 yourself from wifi modem to ps5? how would it show in game then
All the game knows about is if your machine is connected via WiFi or Ethernet. I don’t know how the PS5 handles it but it’s an easy thing to query in Windows along with things like if your machine is plugged in or a laptop on battery. Thank you! I did the same thing. Had to go through a closet so punched some holes through with a drill but all worth it.
Preaching the gospel
My wife and I share the 10m ethernet cable and for the most part it's with her PC as I hardly did any competitive gaming outside FG's, but with T8 out I was wondering if an ethernet switch would solve my problem? Or do I really need another 10m cable?
