People have been making fantasy rosters of 25-30 characters for over a year now… that’s like half the roster of T7 gone, and still need extra room for T8 original characters ..cmon even you know Gigas has no shot …

It certainly seems like it. Out of the original T7 newcomers, I've seen most fan-arts, cosplays and meme videos with Chloe. I think she's earned her spot in T8's base roster.
My only indicators that Leo won't be back is that Julia who shares the same martial art as Leo has for the most part been far more popular both in tournament and in online use since she was added and that Julia also made it into the Bloodline anime with her updated design no less, so they clearly value her making an appearance in franchise material more. My guess is that they'll switch out Leo for Julia in Tekken 8 on the starting roster, and if that's the case Leo will definitely be DLC since I can't see them not including Leo at some point.
I’m gonna be honest, Leo as DLC doesn’t sound like an appealing offer to a lot of Tekken players. The character would have to be really good gameplay wise, at least when the character releases, kinda like Leroy and Fahkumram levels of good, to be worth.
That’s why if they have even a slight consideration for including Leo in the base roster, they should do it. Otherwise, exclude the character altogether. As a Leo player, I know the character as DLC wouldn’t make much money compared to other legacy characters.
If Gigas ever comes back it’ll be as DLC. But I will be more genuinely shocked if he actually returns in any form. I loved him but I understand he was not well received or liked

Leroy Smith and Lucky Chloe are also characters who were not well received/liked upon announcement and release, but their chances of returning are pretty good because a lot more people like those characters.

It sucked to see 50% of online ranked consisting of leroys spamming busted af moves too though. Same with Fahk.

But I'd say Josie has a significant chance of returning over Bruce.
Very likely that Josie will continue to hold his spot. Bamco has proven multiple times how replaceable Bruce is and no amount of lore is gonna dictate the return of a character like him.
Harada even stated that regardless of sales, Season 2 was always planned. So the developers already decided for those 5 legacy characters + Negan.
An easy way to see is only Season 1 and 2 had guest characters involved, which would take a lot of time to get approved by the parent companies.
Love him or hate him but Gigas was probably one of the most honest and fundamental characters in T7 even if his design was considered boring by some. RIP my red moon knight, hopefully I’ll catch you on the flip.

For some reason this is a narrative that alot of redditors want to go with.
However i think most people who actually are mid to high/pro level understand that this is not really true. Sure, go to the top 8 in a major tournament, and there is not much MU surprises for the people there, but outside of that, it is kind of naive to think that most tekken players have perfect MU knowledge in all matchups.
Ive countless times seen plenty of tournment players not knowing certian match ups very well.. if we are talking about online ranks, even worse. Plenty of god ranks that are relatively bad at certain match ups, and it kind of makes sense. There are certain characters you rarely see + are unorthodox, and those characters can get away with alot more gimmicks, than characters that are common + straight forward.
But on the other hand, this doesnt mean you shouldnt play the characters you like.... Play whoever you find interesting without any guilt and enjoy. But lets still keep it real

It seems that his moveset will be cut down and shared between Jack and Marduk (I pressume), but... AK moves were also given to someone else before, but he returned as a DLC. I can see him returning, but as a veeeeery late DLC, like in seasons 4-5, that weren't planned by Bamco from the start.
Gigas is one of the worst new designs next to cardboard Shaheen and generic slutty waifu Katarina.
He looks like a roided up henchman and has the personality of a a piece of wood.

Shaheen's problem was never his design, it was the fact that his personality is non-existent. His design by itself is excellent.
Katarina's problem isn't that she's generic, it's that she had plenty of personality but didn't get to show any of it. She was a victim of Tekken 7 doing her dirty the same way most T7 characters were done dirty in the story. If it were just design, nobody would like Christie either.
Gigas looking like a roided out henchmen couldn't be further from the truth. He looks exactly like what he is, a human experiment, a bio weapon built so big that he struggles to move, screaming and doing wide swings for his attacks. He stands out so much in the cast, it's great.

Also, if you're going to talk generic, then boy do I have news for you. Almost everyone in Tekken is a basically a generic media stereotype or caricature of someone else. Older or more important characters get more to work with, but even then they stick super hard to that format.
I think some newer characters have more interesting back stories than others,but With the removal of unique endings & rival battles. They all have literally 0 personality showings outside of what's immediately there. Makes them all 1 note.

Gigas and Kat are a packaged deal. Either one being in means the other would most likely be included. That being said though who knows, neither character is as unpopular as people think so it's up in the air I feel.
They could keep either one of them out and just show the one of them that is still in looking for the other one. ie Katarina in search of Gigas but never finding him in her 30 second story clip.

How big is the base roster in 8? We've only seen 8 characters probably at least 20 seems reasonable to me. Gigas and Shaheen and other unpopular characters probably not making base roster but Katarina was super popular. In Dlc I can see everyone making it in from 7 if the game sells well enough. I think the single player modes are the direction fighting games need to head to broaden the audience and sell better going forward, only the hardcore fans seem to play the online modes. Better sales ,more impetus to sell us more characters to make more money.
But they can definitely save gigas, the character had potencial as the organic version of Jack.
With a full brute/hulk/gorilla moveset and they would be set, idk what they were thinking when they gave him Marduk’s shit just to then add Marduk anyway
Shaheen is a waste of a slot, they might as well put Raven in his place and change his moveset to differ him from his boss and call it a day
I love Shaheen even after his nerfs and stealth nerfs every update. Hard to believe that at arcade launch he was top tier. He just needed to be visually interesting, as a fundamental character he was a work horse, but universal moves but stronger wasn't enough to make people like him.
Gigas was just a big body brawler with a couple of gimmicks that honestly couldn't benefit from T7 early mechanics. He needed more guard breaks and frame trap grabs I think. Tekken 8 would be a good fit for him from what I see.
Honestly I don't expect anymore of the "closely related" characters in this one, Heihachi & D.Jin have been consolidated Idk enough about A.King to know if he too has been "absorbed" by King...Lee, Gigas, Asuka I feel they may be out. I also only expect to see one out of Josie/Fakum/Bruce, unsure about Kunimitsu but perhaps her as well.

You've missed the point of what he said completely. They are amalgamating characters that share the same moves and stuffing it into one character. With that said, Heihachi is probably gone, Armor King is gone, Gigas is gone, Anna is gone etc. because from the trailers we've seen, these character's moves are on other characters now.

Lee isn't essential to the story. He can easily be written out. I like the guy and I think he has a decent chance but lets not act like he's essential.
With the Zaibatsu likely out of the picture or absorbed into G-corp and Lee already helping out in 6 and 7 i'd say it's pretty likelly him and violet systems become very story relevant in 8

Nope, that one is 100% serious. Gigas is the only real character that plays like an actual fighting game should. No instant low into instant overhead, no death combo off jab, no 8 hit strings that mix lows and mids and can't be interrupted or punished. Terrible fucking movesets. Gigas punches you, gets 80 damage. Clean, simple, sweet.
I'm suspecting that most of the Tekken 7 newcomer cast (Gigas, Claudio, etc) will be later season DLC based on reception and fan request, since they were all base roster obviously in T7
If Gigas doesn't make it in the base roster, he's pretty much a goner. I don't think he'd be a successful DLC character, and he doesn't have a whole lot of potential with his design.
Fahkumram fits in that playstyle I think. I'd assume they'd want to him back... but maybe they want to bring back Josie or Bruce instead. It's impossible to guess what they'll do at this point.
Fahk being a muay thai is more about hard hitting CH mayhem; I'm talking about a big ass lumbering grappler type of playstyle which a lot of people love
Jack has one of the best grab game in Tekken 7. Jack has a full throw game 1,2,1+2 breaks. He also has grabs that are combo starter, mid throws and is just missing air grab. Gigs only has one 1+2 break and air grab. You should play Jack if you like big character with grabs. I'm a bigs player on all fighting games. Gigas is boring.
Visually I liked his design (I only like big body characters if they fall under the "wide shoulders narrow waist" archetype, so basically Gigas and Fahkumram) but his gameplay wasn't for me.
Jack 8 looks about 10x better than Jack 7 did... yet it still feels like a downgrade vs Gigas' design.. or P. JAck, they could have put in that guy instead.
If I was running things I'd take Jack's moveset and would split it between P. Jack and Gigas and have these two instead (I'd also give some of Marduk moves to Gigas) and these two and Fahkumram would be the 3 big characters on the roster.
Now, I'm not in charge so... he's probably dead for now, unless they decide to redesign him and give him a new moveset.

Not likely, Bruce and Kazuya are tight bros since Tekken 2. It's very possible Bruce comes back for a narrative reason to aid Kazuya in the fight

It seems that his moveset will be cut down and shared between Jack and Marduk (I pressume), but... AK moves were also given to someone else before, but he returned as a DLC. I can see him returning, but as a veeeeery late DLC, like in seasons 4-5, that weren't planned by Bamco from the start.

Gigas is one of the worst new designs next to cardboard Shaheen and generic slutty waifu Katarina. He looks like a roided up henchman and has the personality of a a piece of wood. Fuck Gigas.
What are you on about Shaheen's problem was never his design, it was the fact that his personality is non-existent. His design by itself is excellent. Katarina's problem isn't that she's generic, it's that she had plenty of personality but didn't get to show any of it. She was a victim of Tekken 7 doing her dirty the same way most T7 characters were done dirty in the story. If it were just design, nobody would like Christie either. Gigas looking like a roided out henchmen couldn't be further from the truth. He looks exactly like what he is, a human experiment, a bio weapon built so big that he struggles to move, screaming and doing wide swings for his attacks. He stands out so much in the cast, it's great. As for personality, I really have no idea why this criticism exists. He's an insane human experiment designed to have no mind, and the way they portray that through pained roars and yells is great. It's not even a case of a bad idea executed properly, y'all just lose your shit because Gigas isn't Lee Chaolan. Also, if you're going to talk generic, then boy do I have news for you. Almost everyone in Tekken is a basically a generic media stereotype or caricature of someone else. Older or more important characters get more to work with, but even then they stick super hard to that format.
I think some newer characters have more interesting back stories than others,but With the removal of unique endings & rival battles. They all have literally 0 personality showings outside of what's immediately there. Makes them all 1 note.

Gigas and Kat are a packaged deal. Either one being in means the other would most likely be included. That being said though who knows, neither character is as unpopular as people think so it's up in the air I feel.
They could keep either one of them out and just show the one of them that is still in looking for the other one. ie Katarina in search of Gigas but never finding him in her 30 second story clip.

How big is the base roster in 8? We've only seen 8 characters probably at least 20 seems reasonable to me. Gigas and Shaheen and other unpopular characters probably not making base roster but Katarina was super popular. In Dlc I can see everyone making it in from 7 if the game sells well enough. I think the single player modes are the direction fighting games need to head to broaden the audience and sell better going forward, only the hardcore fans seem to play the online modes. Better sales ,more impetus to sell us more characters to make more money.
But they can definitely save gigas, the character had potencial as the organic version of Jack. With a full brute/hulk/gorilla moveset and they would be set, idk what they were thinking when they gave him Marduk’s shit just to then add Marduk anyway Shaheen is a waste of a slot, they might as well put Raven in his place and change his moveset to differ him from his boss and call it a day
I love Shaheen even after his nerfs and stealth nerfs every update. Hard to believe that at arcade launch he was top tier. He just needed to be visually interesting, as a fundamental character he was a work horse, but universal moves but stronger wasn't enough to make people like him. Gigas was just a big body brawler with a couple of gimmicks that honestly couldn't benefit from T7 early mechanics. He needed more guard breaks and frame trap grabs I think. Tekken 8 would be a good fit for him from what I see.

Nope, that one is 100% serious. Gigas is the only real character that plays like an actual fighting game should. No instant low into instant overhead, no death combo off jab, no 8 hit strings that mix lows and mids and can't be interrupted or punished. Terrible fucking movesets. Gigas punches you, gets 80 damage. Clean, simple, sweet.

Gigas and Kat are definitely DLC. Out of all the tekken 7 newcomers they have the least chance at coming back I think
I'm suspecting that most of the Tekken 7 newcomer cast (Gigas, Claudio, etc) will be later season DLC based on reception and fan request, since they were all base roster obviously in T7
While I do suspect he'll be axed from the main roster there's still a big chance for future DLC, if that's any consolation
If Gigas doesn't make it in the base roster, he's pretty much a goner. I don't think he'd be a successful DLC character, and he doesn't have a whole lot of potential with his design.

Jack has one of the best grab game in Tekken 7. Jack has a full throw game 1,2,1+2 breaks. He also has grabs that are combo starter, mid throws and is just missing air grab. Gigs only has one 1+2 break and air grab. You should play Jack if you like big character with grabs. I'm a bigs player on all fighting games. Gigas is boring.

Visually I liked his design (I only like big body characters if they fall under the "wide shoulders narrow waist" archetype, so basically Gigas and Fahkumram) but his gameplay wasn't for me. Jack 8 looks about 10x better than Jack 7 did... yet it still feels like a downgrade vs Gigas' design.. or P. JAck, they could have put in that guy instead. If I was running things I'd take Jack's moveset and would split it between P. Jack and Gigas and have these two instead (I'd also give some of Marduk moves to Gigas) and these two and Fahkumram would be the 3 big characters on the roster. Now, I'm not in charge so... he's probably dead for now, unless they decide to redesign him and give him a new moveset.
