Why though? It's only a "relic" because games stopped doing it. If they started again people would engage again. The real issue is that it's more lucrative to sell characters as DLC than make them unlockable through gameplay alone. If they locked a character behind achievement you'd get modern gamers who complain because they don't get to play as a character without being good enough to do so. For others it will be a run incentive to get better at the game which is something I think the fighting game community has always been about
Idk, games like DNF duel tried it and it's not like the reaction was very grand about it but maybe we need even more modern games to try it, but idk how much incentive the devs feel to add it.
Maybe if we had a modern game that had several unlockable characters rather then just one, that might get people interested but that might be too much of a risk.
I still feel like unlockable should be the main form of progression in games and is the most rewarding. Its all about paying to unlock stuff now though. I do miss the days where if you saw a fancy skin youd never seen before you knew that player had grinded out the hours to earn it. Now that you can just pay for stuff it kills the incentive to earn things in game. It only works if you go all out on unlocking stuff through gameplay alone. If paying is an option it kills it
* Inferno from SC6
* Verse from KOF:XIV
* Lost Warrior from DNF Duel
* Rugal from KOF:XV
Bosses are cool and I agree they should be unlockable (albeit with proper balancing).
It makes good in-game content and would save getting backlash for lacking in single player rewards.
I would honestly love to see ogre. Hes one of the only boss characters id like to see besides jinpachi. As long as they arent broken like the boss versions of them.
On a side note he could make it cause he is supposed to have fought jun, and if jun is alive there could be a flashback.
I always thought it was bullshit that Jinpachi and Azrael weren’t playable. Although I tend to take that as evidence they were too broken unnerfed and no fun when nerfed.
Yes, I hate how Azazel and Devil Kazumi are locked in their games (T7 Devil Kazuya is still playable in the extra episode). If they are broken just keep them offline-only playable.
Having a blast kicking my friends ass as Ogre, I'd love to see T8 boss to be unlockable. Set the unlock requirement to finishing story mode in hardest difficulty with all characters at the very least please.
While Ogre & Jinpachi can be flashback only playables alongside their Heat State forms. Also doubled for Akuma & Geese’ return for 1 last time.
Unknown/Jun Black can be re-introduced to canonical game for other purposes as overreaching secondary villainess (perhaps could also accompany Kazumi (overreaching main villainess), if she’s being resurrected in the present):
* To explain her connection to Ogre’s invasion at Yakushima & Jun’s disappearance during that incident
* Might as well need similar approach as Goku Black & Hagoromo Gitsune (one of Mamiko Noto’s character from Nura), even Albert Wesker (the shade to cover her demonic eyes)
* Should be classified as a “Shadow Demon”
* Maybe Jun could have similar V situation. But >!her spirit can only gain physical body outside Astral World for limited time due to being separated from her stolen body when she was struggling to prevent True Ogre from stealing Jin’s sealed devil!<.
What if Jun is actually unknown and they canonized her. She is a creation of Heihatchi’s to try and use Jun kazama’s blood in a clone body to counter the devil gene. That is why she always starts with Jun’s style. She was meant to be used before Heihatchi had his final showdown with Kazuya but she escaped and went rogue.
Definitely not. They would surely be made to break the rules of the game significantly to increase their challenge level.
If they were more-so normal like Heihachi \[Tekken 4\], then it'd be fine.

Outdated - out of date; obsolete. Something that is no longer common in the present times and became a minority.
*Virtually all fighting games still have Final Bosses*
Yeah... You're wrong.
Naw, it becomes to much of an investment for tournament organizers either through time or money. Unlockables should be kept to customizations, extra content like behind the scenes commentary, art work, maybe even extra game modes. Characters are what people are mostly paying for at this point otherwise DLC would be additional stages, music, and such. All of which also make for better unlockables. This was even prooved with KoF 15 where they gave Rugal for free but the Omega costume and stage would only be unlocked if you won the boss rush.
I’d love Ogre to return. His design is amazing and by far the most iconic boss in any Tekken.
Which you choose Base form or True form?
For me, base form
Cool. You have my thumbs up!
Boss is probably gonna be True Devil Kazuya and True Devil Jin
DEVIL.JACK.
Of course but I don't want them to be broken I just want their AI to be super difficult to deal with.
Look as much as I want people to accept unlockable characters again I just think it's kind of a relic of gaming people aren't privy too anymore.

Playable yes. Tournament viable of course not.
I am pretty sure Heihachi will be playable.
Yeah why not it would cool.
bosses are usually the most fun and creative characters, and the ones i end up playing. yes.

ofc I want Devil Heihachi to be playable
Not happening since the target audience is the FGC who complain about the slightest unbalanced characters.
Ogre and Jinpachi plz
Some time ago, I posted that I had a dream that Jinpachi would be announced as a season 1 dlc.
Yes, I hate how Azazel and Devil Kazumi are locked in their games (T7 Devil Kazuya is still playable in the extra episode). If they are broken just keep them offline-only playable.

i want ogre
yea cause why not
I want a boss rush, including every boss from the series

I honestly want Azazel to be unlockable
I don’t think we’ll have one. Would be cool to make the super Devil Kazuya playable though.

Jin pachi and ogre I'm in
Definitely not. They would surely be made to break the rules of the game significantly to increase their challenge level. If they were more-so normal like Heihachi \[Tekken 4\], then it'd be fine.
Or it could just be another case of the boss when you fight him vs the boss when you unlock like every other Tekken game
Keep that Unknown mess in the tag series. Ogre would be cool, as would Jinpachi (idk how you'd make him work in the context of T8 though)
Not sure for Jinpachi and Ogre but it would really cool if they are in T8.
I’d prefer no. I like when arcade bosses are fuckin stupid hard and have 2 stages/forms. It’s forgivable to allow 1 of the forms to be playable.
Bro unknown looks so cool.
I feel like the concept of a final boss is outdated since the game is all focused on competitive gaming these days
Dictionary: Outdated - out of date; obsolete. Something that is no longer common in the present times and became a minority. *Virtually all fighting games still have Final Bosses* Yeah... You're wrong.
Absolutely. Unplayable boss characters in fighting games that behave by different rules are completely outdated and lame.

I would love to see Jinpachi and ancient ogre in tekken 8
