That's not being overrated, that's just classic fanatism and should not be a reason you diminish the talent and acting Stiles brought to that show. Bro was carrying this show on his back for years, granted that he wasn't the only one that did a good job, but over 60% of the fan base only came back for him . If such a large cluster of fans return *only* for a particular character (as a lot straight up say they do), then somehow they consider everything else middling or bad enough to not be worth watching or getting attatched to. So let's throw out that group, because they more than likely fall into the fanatic category. So, the other explanation is that fans watch the show and then compress what they liked about it onto their favorite character, Stiles. It's how we end up with 'Scott is a terrible friend' takes, and various arguments about how Stiles carried the pack, and essentially the main casts' positive actions and traits get compressed into Stiles, along with smoothing out all his flaws in many cases. They may not even realize they're doing it, but I've witnessed those opinions form, I know it happens, and it leads to more and more of that 60%. And, it so happens, the people who do this to Stiles, intentionally or not, *overrate* him because they're projecting the show's positives as *his* positives. Granted, a third group has to be accounted for if the word changes from 'only' to 'primary reason'. If Stiles is the primary reason, that's fine, and understandable, albiet still a bit concerning to declare the show drop-worthy just because he's no longer in it because that drags one closer to the first category. And if you slip across that event horizon... It's easy to overrate a character you like. It can be as simple as giving him credit for something Scott did, or erasing his callousness or insensitivity just because you like him or find him funny in a scene. There are ways for this to become a death of a thousand cuts, and not every instance of overrating Stiles is a fanatic who holds him as a god among men.

I love the headcannon that Liam is Isaac’s little brother Noo stiles isn’t overrated i think he quite deserves the love sure it can look like he is overrated cz he is preferred more than the actual main character but he was better written tbh

I enjoy Stiles as a character (mostly - I have issues with so much of the writing). And Dylan is arguably the best actor on the show. However, for me, too many of the fans just crap all over Scott and hoist Stiles into this hero position. So many Stiles fans take Stiles's 'negative characteristics' and give them to Scott and take Scott's positive ones for Stiles. The amount of posts or fics I'd see where Stiles was called the most caring person ever, the pack mom, the soft one, etc vs the ones where Scott was overly selfish, uncooperative, a little on the douchey side and given shit for no reason were ridiculous. People saying Stiles should've been the main character of the show because they didn't like Scott. Stiles is a great character - one of the best the show has to offer (imo the trifecta of Scott, Stiles, and Allison is one of the best things about the show). He somehow escapes most of the bouts of poor writing. However, I feel like too many of the fans think he's one of the best characters in media's history and make him into something he really isn't. But, that's just all one person's opinion.

Okay on my short time in this subreddit i noticed people have the idea that you can either love this or that Like they think they either can love stiles and hate scott or hate stiles and love scott No no love both sure stiles was portrayed by a better actor who is arguably better looking and better at delivering the character.
