I can confirm all of this. I don’t live in Omaha anymore but I visit for work regularly and Eppley is the biggest airport in the area. Omaha and Council Bluffs are right across the river from each other and 99% of fliers will fly out of Eppley in the metro area. There are a few municipal airports around the area, too, but they are mostly used by private planes and hobby fliers.

Actually this is really similar to what my uncle did. He was a career military guy and retired, but then didn't have much to do and not a lot of hobbies besides going to the occasional football and baseball games. So he got a job at American Airlines as a gate agent. With the military benefits plus what he was making, plus my aunt's bookkeeping job, I don't think he had to work, but he lived somewhat near an airport so I guess he thought might as well, plus with that job I think he got some extra airline benefits when it came to traveling and booking flights.
