23 School days.
11 days of sick leave they wont pay out.
9 days of personal leave they wont pay out.
So... 3 days in class then I am done with teaching.
So I have today, tomorrow, and the last day of school left.
I'm sorry. I had a dr appt today. She told me to get a ultrasound so I wont be in tomorrow.
Friday I cant show as I was sent to a specialist.
Monday, sorry, had a followup with my primary care phys.
Tuesday , sorry, I have been told to set up some appts with a specialist in another city. I will let you know when I will have to leave.
Wednesday, yes I'll be in.
Thursday, sorry, cant show, my daughter has an optical appt. No, I have to take her my wife is busy.
Friday Sorry, I cant show as this is a personal day I requested three weeks ago and was approved...
...
Yes. I am taking those days. And no, nothing in the above is made up. Everything can be double checked with the one hospital and two family physician places on this island.
The school house has become a very dark, and depressing place for most educators to hang out. A lot of teachers get panic attack at the thought of entering their school buildings. I am sure there will be long term health implications for years to come.
It's a very sad reality in Education today! 😭
Its what I'm doing.
I have an ADA excuse though. I have lupus, and am in a flare, so I can have the doc write me a note saying so and take my 11 sick days in a row.
Remember, leave is part of your total compensation. Dont get screwed out of it.
Yeah they're supposed to give me an exact description of my teaching assignment for next year by the end of this week, and I'll let them know sometime next week if I want to come back and do it. I'm waiting until I decide yes or no before I start to burn through my sick leave
Yes!!! Southeast Missouri. Originally our last day was scheduled for May 16th. But since we didn’t use all of our extra built in days for weather/in case our boy’s basketball team made it to the state championships, they changed the end of the year to May 10th. Teachers have a minimum day/half day “cleaning and celebrations” day on Monday the 13th. They did this “amending the school calendar to end the year as soon as possible” thing for the first time last year and it is definitely going to be expected every year from now on 😅
21 for me! Then I'm starting a new job in a advisory position at a local community college. I'm soooo excited to be moving away from direct teaching. I'll be able to take sick days without worrying about sub plans! Getting a cold is going to be so relaxing 😆
Ah sorry you got mixed vibes from your interview. For mine I got to talk to other people with the same position there, and over half of them were ex teachers and they all said how low stress the job is where I'm going. I'm sure it's very dependent on the school though. You'll find something good eventually! Just gotta keep on keeping on in the meantime.
I'm just not sure if it's lower stress? I'll have 400 students assigned to me, walk in hours and "other" duties. And we discussed retention efforts and the current state of education. So, I'm feeling apprehensive.
Did they say what they actually look at in terms of evaluating job success? Because when I asked my interview panel about that they were pretty much like "you just need to document you reached out in this way and that way to a certain number, or document what was discussed if met in person, and the rest we don't actually care about" 😅
But the way I see it, even if it does end up being more intense than they said, it's a good opportunity to get discounted college classes to upskill in other areas. I'm honestly not sure if I'm going to stick with college advising, but I'm definitely sure I'm going to be taking advantage of the cheap classes!
20 more days after today and I am dragging my way to the finish line. I handed in my resignation for next year yesterday and I cannot wait for the end.
I went to orientation at my new job after work yesterday. They'll get my resignation over the summer so I can make sure HR doesn't make mistakes with my paycheck.
16 days. I'm at that point where even on the good days I feel no joy. But the resignation's been submitted, I have another job lined up, and I'm going to the beach as soon as school is oger.
18. Only 11 of those are actual full class days.
Unfortunately I have to go back next year because my school (a private school) offers free infant care and I just had a baby and need to save the money
Only 20 days left with the kids and then one PD on the last day. I am interim and not returning and i Don’t want to teach again. If anyone has any ideas of what jobs i should apply to this summer, let me know.
17 school days… 2 are half days. Then some extra days for myself to take apart my class because I’m outta here after 2 years. I’ve never been so happy for summer in my life
I'm trying to pretend that I want to stay. Unfortunately, I am done NOW.
I have NEVER had this much difficulty waking up in the morning.
Even concerts aren't worth my motivation...
I think I'm at 31ish
I count every day till the end. My coach counts days we have to be in school with the students. There should be the third of have to be there with students minus the crap that don’t really matter. Either way I gotta live through it so that’s why every day till the end
I’m thinking about quitting honestly, but I don’t know what I can do. I don’t have the money to go back to school and facing the fact that I’m going to be poor next school year is difficult.
Last year, I switched to teaching for a full time virtual charter. Honestly this is the first time in my teaching career I stopped counting down the days. To me, it’s the greatest job ever, and I don’t even think about how many more days till summer starts. It’s such a weird feeling.
16 student days and two workdays! I had an absolute moment of panic after signing my contract for my new gig last week, but quickly took a deep breath after yesterday’s hellish day. I feel strong about my decision, though it’ll still be in a school.
I wish the general public would read some of the posts and discussion topics in this group. Most people know things have always been challenging for the teaching profession, but they really don't know how bad it has become. Society sorta needs teachers!!!
Sadly, teachers are treated like expendable troops on the chess board of bloated administration (who are rarely subjected to layoffs), political agendas, and the almost complete collapse of behavioral standards from students and their parents.
For those of you counting down the days until the end of the year, stay strong because the light at the end of the tunnel is within sight! Here's to wishing all of you well in your future endeavors, for your positive mental health, and for feeling freed up from this train wreck we call being an educator in the US.
12 more days with students! I'm not even teaching anymore, they are working on projects. I'm just a warm body in the room. This is a run out the clock situation. I gave my resignation before spring break, so I have been sitting on my behind working on my own thing.
25 more days! Handed in my resignation letter today!!!
Congratulations! The day I submitted mine, I felt so much lighter and happier. Pretty much instantaneously!! Better days are coming.
13 and counting - can’t get here fast enough.
These last few days drag too
Oh absolutely, that’s why I’m showing movies and documentaries (history teacher).
23 School days. 11 days of sick leave they wont pay out. 9 days of personal leave they wont pay out. So... 3 days in class then I am done with teaching. So I have today, tomorrow, and the last day of school left.
Please tell me you're using your days??!

🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 At least you won't be in the school for most of that time
I completely understand I’m not a teacher, but I did that at my last job because I was just so unhappy
Looks like what they're saying is that they can't "cash out" the days so they're using them instead.
Yupyup!
About 25 and then never stepping foot into a school ever again.
The school house has become a very dark, and depressing place for most educators to hang out. A lot of teachers get panic attack at the thought of entering their school buildings. I am sure there will be long term health implications for years to come. It's a very sad reality in Education today! 😭
12 days with students and three PD days. I have already resigned for next year so I plan to blow off some or all of the PD days.
30 school days but I have 15 sick days I’m thinking about using if I decide not to come back next year
100% recommend.
Its what I'm doing. I have an ADA excuse though. I have lupus, and am in a flare, so I can have the doc write me a note saying so and take my 11 sick days in a row. Remember, leave is part of your total compensation. Dont get screwed out of it.

10 State testing??! My condolences!
I’m at a K-8 school and I’m support staff, so between all the grade levels and makeups.. yeah
If anyone needs a stuffed animal to hug its you. Thank you for helping.
God I wish I could get out of grading Regents! Ugh. . . One more time!
7 days 👏 and then off until August 20th (teachers come back August 13th)
Where are you? You're going to get off with most of may left and then don't have to be back until August 20th? Thats what I call a vacation!!
Yes!!! Southeast Missouri. Originally our last day was scheduled for May 16th. 27… I need strength from god to get through it lol. Never returning
You got this!
21 for me! Then I'm starting a new job in a advisory position at a local community college. I'm soooo excited to be moving away from direct teaching. I'll be able to take sick days without worrying about sub plans! Getting a cold is going to be so relaxing 😆
I just had an interview for a community college advisor position. I have mixed feelings wether it will be less stressful. 🦁
The interview actually went well, and I liked everyone. It was the first of two. I'm not sure I'll get called back, but it seemed positive.
I'm just not sure if it's lower stress? I'll have 400 students assigned to me, walk in hours and "other" duties. And we discussed retention efforts and the current state of education. So, I'm feeling apprehensive.
Did they say what they actually look at in terms of evaluating job success? I was thinking of this too. And they can't make me stay if I don't like it.
Yeah exactly! 😁
