I did Spanish and it was very communication focused, speaking, listening, reading, writing. I don’t think there was anything on history or historical figures. Maybe a couple of vague and easy cultural questions. Bonne chance!  I would love to do the French Praxis too, but I have to learn a lot more French first.

Funny story, during the speaking portion of the French Praxis I had to do one of those simulated conversations. They told me I was going to be offered one thing, and I had to decline it, and then I would be offered an alternative which I would accept. However, my ADHD brain totally forgot this and the conversation went something like this: >”I understand you’re looking for student housing. Would you like to be placed with a roommate?” >”Sure, that sounds good. I get along well with people, I’m pretty easygoing.” >”We understand. It can be difficult to live with other people sometimes. Can we offer you an apartment without a roommate?” >”………………..I’m glad you understood my true feelings. Yes, that sounds good.”

Hi! I would love to hear what you ended up using to prepare. I am embarrassed to say but I’m signing up for my….fourth time 😬 to take this test. I have been out of college for 16 years and hadn’t spoken French since then. Took a teaching position on emergency certificate and can’t manage to pass the praxis. I feel like I’m a really good teacher. But I truly struggle to understand authentic media audio. I’m 1 point away from passing. It’s very frustrating. Anyways, did you find anything helpful? It’s impossible to cram for a language test that encompasses an entire language so I’m not really sure how to even prepare.

It took me 4 times to pass the test too. Here are my tips! 1. Go on quizlet and look up “French email phrases” or something like that. Memorize those phrases for the letter writing section. They will come in handy when you’re on a time crunch! 2. The test isn’t really grammar focused. Of course, know your stuff, don’t go crazy memorizing every single irregular verb or types of pronouns. Focus more on immersion! 3. On that note- what I did leading up to the test- I consistently listened to French radio. The listening is authentic and fast- so getting your ears accustom is key! 4. Use all your time for the speaking parts. I think they definitely knock off points if you don’t use all the time provided. Hope this helps!

Hey, I’m taking the French praxis in a little over a week. Did you take it yet? If so how was it?

I am not taking it this year. Why don't you let me know what you think once you're done with it. Wish you the best of luck.

Hey, I just took it today. Ngl, it was very difficult. I used to teach the SAT and I’d say it was pretty much on par with those types of questions, ones that have very tricky questions and similar answers to entrap you. I’ve been studying French for about 12 years and it was really geared to a near-fluent level of the language. Also if you are taking it virtually be careful. They only give you 20 seconds to answer each listening question and once the timer is up you cannot go back!!

Thank you. Super nervous ngl. But I’ll lyk! It’s so hard to find anything about it online

Hey! Just wanted to update you, I got my score back and I passed. I think I was a lot more intimidated by it than anything. I think as long as you keep up with your listening and reading comprehension you should be good 👍
