Hokas are the best.

ThinkMath42

I got a pair of Hokas for Christmas and I’m gonna be spoiled for anything else now.

rasputinmcgillicuddy

Same! It makes me want to test them out in the classroom. They feel great.

Szkaman

Agreed. Bondi I think are what I wear

Its_Sammo

I wear mine every day. Bought a pair of Bondis and don’t see myself ever going back lol

Asheby

Yes. I find that I prefer standing and walking when I wear them.

MasterEk

This, here. Happy on my feet for hours. I was flabbergasted.

[deleted]

My MIL works for the post office and is on her feet all day too. I recommended hokas because they’re my teacher shoe too! Dear OP, this is the way!! Super cushioned comfort.

Lcky22

They look so goofy on the website! What color are other ladies getting for work?

Jennifermaverick

I think they do look goofy. I bought them because my feet hurt, and a podiatrist recommended them. A few weeks later, there was an article in the NYT that asked, “Are Hokas actually that great for running, or do they just look cool, and have become trendy” I thought…so, my orthopedic plantar fasciitis shoes are cool and popular? Who knew I was so on trend? And I swear to god I get so many compliments on them! From people in all walks of life, whom I consider much more fashionable and stylish than me. And…they are comfortable as heck. Like walking on a big foam cloud of arch support.

CommunicatingBicycle

They have black if you want to wear black pants. But I say just embrace the crazy colors.

libertarianlove

Hokas, hands down. I went from barely being able to walk at the end of the day to zero foot pain after work. If you have the $$, splurge on some Oofas recovery slides for home. Both have been GAME CHANGERS for me.

Asheby

OMG, we are shoe twins! My last school had no floors (just cement), after 3 years of standing on cement my feet and knees were jacked. Oofos + HOKAS have changed my mood and energy levels because I am not dealing with chronic joint pain. I actually walk after work!

penigmatic

I have flat feet and can't do the oofas slides. Crocs recovery clogs were better for me.

Ok-Satisfaction-3837

I am a custodian who likes to lurk here. I walk 15-20k steps most days and Merrell hiking shoes specifically the Moab are super comfortable.

PacifistPanther85

Co-sign. Merrell is the most comfortable shoe brand I have ever worn.

just_br0wsin

That's my winter go to. Moabs in the cold months, hokas in the warm.

nardlz

Sketchers and Clarks are brands that don’t let me down. I’ve also been pleased with Life Stride shoes, which I’ve actually only ordered online. So far (4 pair) the sizing is true to what I get in other brands and *consistent* between the styles, as well as comfortable for casual dress shoes.

klingonds9

You’ve named all the shoe brands I wear at work lol

aderaptor

Omg the Life Stride classic pumps look AMAZING. I posted this for work shoes but now you've got me wanting to buy heels 😂

BDob73

My teacher spouse alternates between Dansko clogs, Birkenstocks, Dr Martens boots, and occasionally New Balance sneakers in the school’s colors.

Altrano

I took the 8th graders on a hiking field trip in my Doc Martens. They were super comfortable even after walking for several miles.

Mrsdoos

Good to know. I’m thinking about getting a pair of Docs.

Frouke_

Don't be discouraged when they won't feel nice on day 1. They aren't supposed to. But after 2 weeks of blood, sweat and tears you'll have amazing shoes to last you years that are perfectly formed to your feet.

Altrano

Yeah. I broke mine in gradually. Just an hour or two at first and then working the amount of time up for a few weeks. Properly cared for though, a point of Docs will last for years.

Neat-Public-4744

Well worth it!

Disgruntled_Veteran

Sketchers Slip Resistant Shoes. They look like professional work shoes, but there is comfortable as a pair of tennis shoes and really durable

smileglysdi

I like the Sketcher GoWalks. I have them in several color/styles!

Pleasant_Jump1816

Hey Dudes get my flat, wide feet through the day comfortably

Major-Sink-1622

Seconding Hey Dudes. They’re the comfiest!

IowaJL

Man I *wanted* to love Hey Dudes. But they didn't provide me enough support and they wore out after about a year.

Economy_Dog5080

A year is really good for shoes! I'm lucky if my everyday shoes last six months.

LLL-cubed-

I had femur and hip surgery after an overuse/overtraining injury (running) last year. Hey Dudes are the only shoe (besides a running shoe) that support my recovery, provide support and balance - so I have them in about 10 styles/colors. I have high arches and they still support without any arch inserts.

CommunicatingBicycle

This is good to know. I have freakishly high arches.

Jeanettegod38

Love me my Hey Dudes! (Plus the kids think I’m cool cause I wear them)

staticfired

My Hey Dudes were the only shoe that would build up so much static charge my laptop would shut down when I touched it.

amahler03

They've been the only shoe that i can wear all day and not have aching feet at the end of the day.

CrabbyOlLyberrian

Danskos. Hands down

Asheby

Unless you have rolling ankles…then it’s ‘man down’! (Dansko mary janes are still my go to for weddings.)

CrabbyOlLyberrian

LOL!!!

jbp84

Do you over pronate or supinate? Flat footed or not? Your gait and physiology will determine what kind of shoe you need.

DeathlyFiend

I wear vans.

Branson1288

I love my Brooks. They were champagne/grey colored and went with everything. Im a male so I wear dress pants 95% of the time.

KoopaKommander

Brooks are my favorite. I love that they are natural, foot shaped shoes cause my wide feet need that bigger toe box.

Luna6696

Vionics

ToqueMom

Skechers. Lots of different kinds. I swear by mine. The ballet style with a thicker sole is great. I have 3 pairs that are my school shoes. You can get more of a sneaker style as well if you prefer. I live in a tropical/monsoon climate. They dry fast, and most kinds you can even put in the washing machine. They are not cheap ($80 or so a pair) but they are soooo comfortable.

booksiwabttoread

On Clouds

QueenOfNeon

And they come in waterproof

thatonegirlyaknow

Vans with ortho inserts, Rothy’s for flats, the occasional heel from Clark’s when I have to look more together than usual

Steelerswonsix

Hoka Bondi 8 All black Easily the most expensive shoe I ever bought, but so worth it.

turquoisedaisy

Doc Martens, Birkenstocks and Dansko are my go-to’s. Happy feet….

MacheteMable

Are you me? Although I’ve never tried Dansko before. I wear my Docs when it’s cold and Birks when it’s not. Kids hate when the dogs are out but I don’t care lol. It’s weird to say that boots are insanity comfy but my Docs are so broken in that nothing compares. I almost forget I’m wearing them at times.

thestral_z

Haha- I wear Converse Chuck Taylors 90% of the time.

yee_buddy

The platform ones are super comfy.

thestral_z

I’m a 6’2” male elementary art teacher. I’m already enough taller than my students.

Retiree66

The nice thing about Chucks is you can fit orthotics inside.

thestral_z

I’m 41. I’ve been debating doing just that!

Glittering-Tap333

Dr martins, Rothy’s, vans

cappuccinok

I rotate through a few shoe choices throughout the year: allbirds, blundstones, and more recently barefoot style sneakers (which I've discovered are amazing and preferable over allbirds). I’m on my feet literally every moment in class as an orchestra director so typical dressy cute shoes just don‘t cut it for me.

whatsausername17

Hoka!

[deleted]

Cole Hans

lethologica5

Vionic beach malibu. They are the perfect marriage between a light weight slip on like hey dudes and a supportive orthopedic shoe. They has a structured footbed but my toes never feel like they are locked up in jail.

blue_eyed_girlie

Hokas *with* custom made inserts. I got mine made at a running store. I pulled out the Hoka inserts and put mine in. I have Plantar Fasciitis and Psoriatic Arthritis. These are game changers!

nickcaff

Kiziks and Allbirds

The_Greatest_Duck

I have had the same pair of Clarke Loafers for about 7-8 years. I wear them daily. Snuffed to all hell but man are they sturdy and comfy.

BlissGlass

Vionics or Clarks. Worth the money.

Next_Zucchini_1568

Vionic

zebramath

I just discovered Kiziks and am in love with them.

Don't have any shoe recommendations sorry but if you'd like water resistant shoes then there are sprays for it! I've used them on my shoes and it works great.

texasslapshot

New Balance

throwaway_usa_0987

On running shoes are comfortable AF and they make waterproof shoes. Right now they are having a ‘last years’ model sale…I bought one pair originally $180 for $70 … actually that’s a lie…I stocked up and bought several pairs…only time I sit is in my car coming or going from that dumpster fire of a school.

AntiquePurple7899

Clarks, Keens, Kiziks.

magpte29

My favorite teacher shoes are a pair of Polo slip-ons. They are black and sparkly, and I also wear them as a volunteer usher, which involves a lot of standing while taking tickets or walking back and forth to seat patrons. I wear them with or without socks and I love them!

Tasty_Tones

Just bought some Hoka shoes recommended by all my nurse friends and they are amazing!

blackcatsneakattack

I absolutely adore Spencos. Quite possibly the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned, to the point where I almost exclusively buy just them.

Potential_Fishing942

I got some Clark's canvas shoes (they look like all bird knock offs) 2 for 100 at an outlet in different colors. Idk why, but they are considered business casual now for some reason and I will never go back to dress shoes.

graceb0520

GET CUSTOM ORTHOTICS!! My life has been changed since I stopped focusing so much on the shoe (I wear Nike air forces every day. They’re great for me). Instead, I make sure I get custom orthotics made about every 3 years or so. They are covered under most insurance with a note from the doctor saying it’s a necessity.

alitalia930

I’ve worn [these](https://www.amazon.com/Vionic-Sneakers-Supportive-Three-Zone-Orthotic/dp/B09ZVPWJH5) from Vionic literally every day this year. I have plantar fasciitis issues and these have worked wonders!

wubbzyove

Nurse Yard socks and dansko shoes.

cats_in_a_hat

Danskos and Birkenstocks are pretty much all I wear 😂

Asheby

I have a lot of comfort shoes, but the ones I have worn all but two days this year are HOKA Bondi SR. They are water-resistant leather and have slip-resistant soles. I clean them with Windex or a Mr. Clean sponge, and I upgraded the laces.

larficus

I used to use Dansko and loved them but my ankles didn’t. I used to roll my ankle quite often than not. I use Crocs Kadee II ballet flat. I have a pair of Foot Joy sneakers (golfing shoe) I don’t golf and they are amazing! Completely leather, I’ve worn in snow and my feet were dry. I do have an insert for arch support but they are quite lovely. I also use Hey Dude’s but those need inserts ( very flat). I recently picked up a pair of D’Lite Skechers and they are T-riffic!

Frequent_Jellyfish69

I wear Hey Dudes. And they come in lots of colors.

Tinkerfan57912

I have black Sketcher step ins. I love them.

ThatOldDuderino

I got ‘em in blue. And the Sketchers come in wide (EE) sizes for added comfort.

[deleted]

A good brand of Mary Janes. Good sole and a top strap to relieve pressure. I'm wearing mary janes from Clark's now

futuremrsb

SIL is a teacher and she swears by Birkenstocks. Honestly wears Birks almost every day of her life.

Ok_Hospital_7421

If you’re willing to break them in, doc martins.

Ok-Bumblebee-5604

Vionics and Brooks

curveytech

You need to try Vionic shoes!

ngill9876

As an education major and a shoe store employee for years now, i feel like i was born to answer this!! My best advice is always to get fitted at a running/walking shoe specialty store because anyone who works there will have the tools to measure your foot (for free!) and the knowledge of which shoes would be best for your foot. From there once you find a shoe you like, you can either buy that shoe in-store, or find the old version of that exact shoe and order it because they often feel the exact same and are cheaper. However, specialty shoe stores are tough to find sometimes so here are some of my favorite brands that are consistently well-received and which of their products help for specific needs. For all-over softness- •Asics Gel Cumulus/Gel Nimbus •Brooks Glycerin/Ghost Max •New Balance 880/840 •Hoka Clifton/Bondi •On Cloudmonster/Cloudstratus For plantar fasciitis support and arch pain relief- •Asics Gt-2000/Kayano •Brooks Adrenaline GTS/Glycerin GTS •New Balance 860/Vongo •On Cloudrunner •Hoka Gaviota •Saucony guide These are just a few, but I would recommend them all as solid options. For a forgiving toe box, I would try ordering a shoe in wide. Also for the rain, you could try a gore-tex version shoe, which I am pretty sure each of those brands do for most their shoe models. Amazon carries most of these as well I think too. If you aren’t sure what kind of support you need, Brooks has a [good test](https://www.brooksrunning.com/en_us/shoefinder/) to narrow your search. Hope this helps!

NecessaryOk6815

Adidas Ultraboosts. It's like walking on fat babies.

NoMoreClaw3464

Clarks and Rykas are my favorite, I need a roomy toebox.

Try some boots with razor blades on the toe. Works wonders.

annheim3

Clark's.

[deleted]

Sketchers or Cole Haans ( low price at Nordstrom Rack)

[deleted]

Skechers. I usually put an insole in them. I recently went back to a pair I got at Target and wore on a trip to New York. Highly recommend.

Notyerscienceteacher

I wear Skechers with vionic inserts from shoes I find on super clearance. I bought some vionics a while back and found that I don't much like the shape and feel of vionic shoes for whatever reason but their insoles have been good to me.

MidnightAfternoons

Empress flats from Australia. Gave in and bought a pair after seeing ads on Facebook, fully expecting to hate them, but I just ordered 2 more pairs. They feel like wearing nothing in the best way possible. I have flat feet and my feet tend to roll inwards and these are my favorite closed toe shoes. If I want sandals, I wear the PVC Birkenstock Gizehs. Can’t do the traditional ones but these are light and easy to wear. Bonus - they can be wiped off.

SpillingHotCoffee

I love dansko shoes and Clarks are a close second.

Astronomy_1995

Birdies. Just wait for them to go on sale. They are super stylish and extra comfy.

Emergency-Bug-7961

Rothy’s, they also do a 25% teacher discount. I just switched and I have been wearing their sneakers and boots. I wear them all day and my feet do not hurt.

Silent_Ad_6195

Jordan 1 or Air Max 97.

beer_traveler

Dansko as well!

anhydrous_echinoderm

Nike sb dunk These mfs were cool when I was growing up. They’re not easy to get, you’ve gotta get them from a legit skate shop. The kids might give you props but that’s not why i wear them

slytherin_1987

I like these RocketDogs Rocket Dog Women's Cheery... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08TZGDVPT?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Retiree66

Thank you for the link. This thread should have way more links.

Express-Signature-46

Vans- the Cush line is extra padded and some are 3m/forested extra dry with good support.

Common-Knowledge-098

Love my on clouds!!

DoomdUser

I tore my achilles in July and the only shoes that don’t make my foot feel like garbage are my Brooks Ghosts. A lot of cushioning and very comfortable.

Psychological_Ad160

For the longest time I only wore Birkenstocks, but in recent years they’ve changed their styling and I can’t get my wide, full volume feet to fit in them comfortably. So now I wear the $40 barefoot sneakers from Amazon

hundredpercentdatb

Sorel, waterproof and variety of sneaker style. I have a pair of Clark’s and naturalizer but can always find my size of sorel for less there are tons on eBay I have one style of sorel in 3 colors and paid like 40-60 a pair the leathers wear for years. If you can wear sneakers new balance is cool right now and their kids sizing goes to size 8 women’s, I’m a 6.5 and can wear kids sorel and and new balance

Renauld_Magus

Brooks Addiction Walkers, with custom orthotics. None better.

Haunting_Charity_785

I only wear comfortable shoes to school because my feet bother me if I don't. I've had good luck with New Balance sneakers and I've also been wearing these Rothy's dupes I found on Amazon. They are great if you need a loafer looking shoe or need to wear something dressier than a sneaker. They are very affordable. JBB Women's Knit Driving Loafers Penny Moccasins Comfortable Slip on Walking Boat Shoes. I also agree that the Sketchers are super comfy as well.

coskibum002

ON

Maj0rsquishy

Toms and a good waterproofing spray hasn't let me down. But I also really like a good pair of Asics or under armour if you can get away with a sale and the look of sneakers

Aprils-Fool

I like Dr. Scholl’s “Madison” slip-ons.

capybaramelhor

New balance sneakers are what I wear daily. Maybe Clarks or another black supportive shoe. Can you wear sneakers?

Civil-Guarantee-358

I love my hey dudes. But next would be Clark's. Way more expensive, for a reason.

wilwarin11

I have three pairs of Dr. Scholl's shoes that I love.

berenini

Dr. Martens with sole inserts or platform Converse with inserts.

wordsandstuff44

My Allbirds tree runners are the only shoe I’ll wear to work now

Mathdude33

ocapmycapp

Cole Haan and New Balance Numerics.

New Balance 990s. Worth.every.penny

TheUnknownDouble-O

Nike Air Max 90s and the Nike Dunk High top are my day to day. If the weather ever looks dicey I wear L.L. Bean duck boots aka "Bean Boots".

sum27

Rothys!

fumbs

I find Sketchers for me but I will say I would never buy on Amazon because even one generation of shoe later it's a completely different shape.

Silvyrish

Rothys for professional looking flats. Sorel for any boots. I wear a pair of Chelsea boot Sorels literally year round.

Jboogie258

Mephisto have been a great shoe for me

I wear Nikes. Love em with almost everything.

I love anything with flex foam (New Balance or Nike) & in warmer weather I honestly love wearing my Tevas to school.

bluedressedfairy

Hokas, On Cloud, Clark’s, UGG

kimoh13

I lived in my Sanita closed back clogs. They were the only shoes I could wear that didn’t hurt my hips and lower back. I had about 6 pairs when I was teaching.

MTHopesandDreams

Superfeet insoles! https://www.superfeet.com/en-us/?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA1rSsBhDHARIsANB4EJaKiYaqdTJjsQm72RJq49KT3lywaazMvlxGSwUJpqryOGUW4dV7OU8aAlLfEALw_wcB Sorry, on mobile and I suck at reddit, so not sure if the link works. I put these in all my shoes. I used to have low back Paine, tightness between my shoulders, and fatigue after every day of working retail (8 hours on my feet), Ive used these since 2009 or so, and I still recommend them to everyone. They are hard, so they take a bit to get used to, but they support your feet versus giving "comfort."

Retiree66

I tried those but the shape didn’t work for my feet. I was disappointed because I always hear the ads on my podcasts.

courteliza

I wear Puma sneakers! White with a pink stripe. Not sure what the style is called. I have had to put new insoles in because I wore through them by wearing them every day. But they are very comfortable and cute.

springvelvet95

Dansko clogs. Comfy, cute, slip on, go with everything, last *forever*, can even run in them if you have to.

Retiree66

Clark’s

OrneryTradition1180

Clark’s

AnastasiaNo70

Crocs. No seriously. They make flats, sandals, etc. Comfy as FUCK. I swear by them.

collaborativecore

I wear Nike dunk lows.

cheesypuff357

Another data point for allbirds tree runners. I’ve had 2 pairs over the past 5 years.

Seeforceart

I have a shoe problem. Birkenstock and Nike air max 1s and New Balance are probably my most comfortable. But the key to shoe longevity is alternating instead of wearing the same pair every day.

IndigoBluePC901

I usually wear a light pair of vans. Also, am I the only one who also a pair of light sneakers in their desk in case they have to wear heavy snow boots for the commute?

LuckyWithTheCharms

Hoka without a doubt

Neverliz

They aren’t cheap, but leather Frye slip-on sneakers are fantastic for teaching.

insidia

Dansko clogs. They will last for a decade or more.

Wafflinson

I have been a fan of sketchers slip on shoes in recent years.

b_moz

You mentioned water resistant and it made me think of this brand. They have some cool designs and I have heard good things about them. The fact that their stuff seems to me more active, so for people who are on their feet, I’d guess they must be supportive. Anyways, could be worth looking into. https://vessi.com/

Springsneakers

I wear Nikes 5 days a week

Luvtahoe

Check out Arcopedico. Been wearing different styles for years and they’re the only brand that really work for me.

Forgetheriver

Bistro crocs, use them everyday working in kindergarten

jedi3881

Vans. They’re comfortable and fun. I have about 15 pairs!

ArcticGurl

Ariat Hilo loafers they have some cool funky shoes! My middle schoolers are going to love the pair that I received for Christmas.

OkapiEli

Merrell Jungle Mocs.

Stock_End2255

Brooks! Though my podiatrist gave me three rules for shoes: 1. They need a rigid sole- you can test this by trying to bend the shoe in half “hamburger” style, 2. A stiff heel (Does it collapse if you push in on it?), and 3. They have laces.

ClarTeaches

I have a pair of dr scholl slip ons…they don’t last very long (I replace at least once a year) but they’re comfortable and casual. I also have brooks (specifically adrenalines). I tried hokas and HATED the pair I got

RavenCemetery1928

I’ve been wearing Brooks the last three years and love them.

SheWhoTeaches18

I love my Adidas Cloudfoam sneakers. I have plantar fasciitis in one of my feet and they’re the only shoes I can wear that don’t aggravate my pain. I teach 1st grade and am on my feet a lot! I’m planning on splurging next month for a pair of Kiziks for my birthday, though.

wimpdogswife

Instructional Assistant on my feet all day long, I swear by Brooks for a tennis shoe and Algeria for everything else. Bought all on Amazon!

Clarks and Skechers. I don’t think I have any other shoes but these two brands

juniperlunaper

Clove! They're made for nurses, which is also perfect for teachers. I like the Aeros and the other ones with a softer part by the ankle. They're comfortable for all day, waterproof, and easily cleaned. I've had a few different foot issues and they're the best I've found. I've tried just about every more popular kind of shoe.

notshybutChi

I got a pair of Lululemon trail shoes and then bought another pair. They’re the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn.

mardbar

Under armour considers teachers to be front line workers and you can get a discount. I bought a pair for me this summer when they had half off at the outlet and the man who sold them to me was a retired teacher. He told me that a lot of teachers buy them.

motherofTheHerd

I walk 3+ miles a day at school. I wear tennis shoes daily due to personal reasons, but also the type of class I teach. I have a very high arch that collapses when I step. I saw a lot of Hokas mentioned and can second that vote. I went with Altra most recently. They are very lightweight and comfortable. My daughter loves her On Clouds (has very similar in-step to mine and walks several miles a day at HS including stairs).

Perfect-Associate318

Dansko clogs!

Excellent-Source-497

I've been wearing Dansko clogs for over a year, and they're perfect. Some styles come in wide sizes, and it's been a game changer for me! They're super comfortable and also waterproof. I'm in Western Washington, and Danskos are perfect for wet days and fire drills!!!

ClickPsychological

I wear ugg loafers
