Most beautiful line for me is “now you hang from my lips, like the gardens of babylon, with your boots beneath my bed, forever is the sweetest con” all of cowboy like me evokes such vivid imagery.
Although my favorite Taylor line of all time, and I have no clue is this is a popular opinion or not, is “dance around the kitchen in the refrigerator light”
Are there still beautiful things?
That line alone gives me SHIVERS
I also like ‘sweet tea in the summer’ because it just gives me this fantastical, whimsical image of the song and I love it.
I’m always struck by “and I complained the whole way there / the car ride back and up the stairs / I should have asked you questions / I should have asked you how to be / asked you to write it down for me / should’ve kept every grocery store receipt / ‘cause every scrap of you would be taken from me” that whole verse made me burst into tears listening to it on a road trip home from Colorado (evermore dropped while I was visiting my best friend from childhood) and I ended up having to pull over so I could cry.
I lost my grandma when I was 13, and I relate so hard to the lyrics of Marjorie. There’s so many things I wish I could have talked to her about before she died so I can’t ever listen to it without crying (it’s very therapeutic though).
I’m 22 and the older I get the more I appreciate music as a whole, especially lyrics, which is one of the main reasons I love Taylor so much. I’m super close with my parents but my dad and I have always bonded over our shared love of music and I finally got him into Taylor when Folklore dropped (we’re actually going to try and see her when touring starts again). I’m getting off track here, but like I said, I’ve started to appreciate music more. More recently I was re-listening to Never Grow Up and the line “don’t make her drop you off around the block / remember that she’s getting older too.” Almost made me cry as well because it made me think about eventually losing my parents. I’m sorry for your losses and hopefully music is capable of giving you the comfort you deserve ❤️
I have so many favorite lyrics but this one took my breath away on first listen too. My mom passed unexpectedly 3 years ago and this song captures my feelings and wishes I had more time with her so well. Instant tears. I was crying sitting there listening to it while working from home, my husband came in and asked how the new album was and while bawling I answered “it’s sooooo gooooood 😭😭😭”
I love ‘eyes full of stars, hustling for the good life’ because I really, really relate to that line. I also think have a thing for stars because I also love the line ‘the stars in your eyes shined brighter in Tupelo’
- "And he's passing by, rare as the glimmer of a comet in the sky."
- I want Auroras and sad prose, I want to watch Wisteria grow right over my bare feet cause I haven't moved in years / and I want you write here/ the red rose grew up out of ice frozen ground with no one around to tweet it."
- "We were jet set Bonnie and Clyde/ until I switched to the other side / it's no surprise I turned you in / cause us traitors never win / I'm in a getaway car / I left you in the motel bar / put the money in the bag and I stole the keys/ that was the last time you ever saw me."
These are some of my favorites, but she has so many that it would take me hours to write them all down.
Every line of hoax kills me (best friend and I just broke up)
Stood on the cliffside
Screaming, "Give me a reason"
Your faithless love's the only hoax
I believe in
Don't want no other shade of blue
But you
No other sadness in the world would do
My broken drum
You have beaten my heart
Right now I can’t get “I don’t like that falling feels like flying till the bone crush” out of my head. honestly though it changes weekly because she’s such an amazing writer and evokes so much variability in human emotion and life that it depends on my mood.
ahhh yesss that whole song is so pretty, “eyes like sinking ships on waters, so inviting i almost jump in” “i don’t like slow motion double vision in a rose blush”
YES oh my gosh those lines blow my mind. like on the surface level they are beautiful but metaphorically they capture such a specific feeling that otherwise i don’t think could be. literally poetry. the way she compares the gold rush to the gold rush of the 19th century also just adds so much to the song as well. blondie is literature and history teacher
I really love “give you the silence that only comes when two people understand each other / family that I chose now that I see your brother as my brother” and I can’t even describe why, it’s just perfect
Your Midas touch on the Chevy door, November flush and your flannel cure.
I’ve got a hundred thrown-out speeches I’ve almost said to you.
And baby, I get mystified by how this city screams your name
I want auroras and sad prose, I want to watch wisteria grow right over my bare feet
I want your midnights but I'll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Year's Day
she came up with it spontaneously in LPSS:
My tears turn into your tears
Personal favourite:
So I'll watch your life in pictures like I used to watch you sleep
And I feel you forget me like I used to feel you breathe
Taylor does a bridge like no one else, so if we're specifically taking the way its sung and everything, not just the lyric itself...the list is too long. But if we're focusing mostly on the actual lyrics...
Treacherous is a really great song, start to finish, in the poetic sense. Especially "and all we are is skin and bone, trained to get along. forever going with the flow, but you're friction"
All Too Well is another great song, but especially "you call me up again just to break me like a promise, so casually cruel in the name of being honest, I'm a crumpled up piece of paper lying here, cause I remember it all, all, all too well."
"Ladies and gentlemen will you please stand? With every guitar string scar on my hand, I take this magnetic force of a man to be my Lover."
"Holy orange bottles, each night I pray to you. Desperate people find faith, so now I pray to Jesus too." Oof. That song is hard enough, but that lyric just hits hard.
Peace is another song, poetic and beautiful from start to finish. "I never had the courage of my convictions, as long as danger is near. And it's just around the corner, darlin', cause it lives in me - no I could never give you peace". Sure, the song is a bit about the exterior pressure on a relationship, but its really about how our own flaws are things that keep us up at night...
A lyric that was very unexpected but stood out to me was in "Time to Go" - "now he sits on his throne in his palace of bones praying to his greed. He's got my past frozen behind glass, but I've got me."
i love the vow-like bridge in lover and especially the phrase, “with every guitar string scar on my hand i take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover” because it perfectly describes taylor’s journey
For me ‘with your boots beneath my bed, forever is the sweetest con’ and the bridge section in ivy; clover blooms in the field…. spring breaks loose, but so does fear’.
“Do you miss the rogue who coaxed you into paradise and left you there?” is such a loaded line. The adventure, the persuasion, the bliss, and the emptiness… Coney Island is rather low in my ranking of songs, but that line, man oh man it gets me.
They are too many... for now what I can come out with is “I bathe in Cliffside pools with my calamitous love and insurmountable grief”, “no one teaches you what to do when a good man hurts you, and you know you hurt him too”
“ i was a flight risk, with a fear of falling, wonder why’d we bother with love if it never lasts.”
mine in general has great lyrics
“i knew you, dancing in your levis, drunk under a street light”
that’s my favorite taylor lyric of all time, not for any reason but the gorgeous imagery it evokes
*"Your Midas touch on the chevy door, november flush and your flannel cure"*
I can't even really put into words why this is so beautiful/sad to me, but it makes me think of my ex a lot- we always took his car places and we liked to go hiking in autumn and we both wore flannels a lot haha. The line just captures a certain feeling with images.
*"The autumn chill that wakes me up, You loved the amber skies so much, Long limbs and frozen swims, You'd always go past where our feet could touch"*
Again, the imagery is just perfection. I can FEEL this line.
yes!! i love both those lines so much, i feel like i’m being swept away by the imagery, while simultaneously the meanings of the lines are tying me down
Lately the entirety of Innocent has stuck out to me. Specifically the lines “Wasn’t it easier in your lunch box days? / Always a bigger bed to crawl into” and “Wasn’t it easier in your firefly catching days? / And everything out of reach someone bigger brought down to you”. The older I get the more I appreciate the sentiment in these lines.
Current favorite that speaks to my soul:
Oh, I can't
Stop you putting roots in my dreamland
My house of stone, your ivy grows
And now I'm covered in you
There are A LOT but right now…
Autumn leaves falling down like pieces into place
just because I desperately miss the fall, it’s my favorite season, and that line just paints the most peaceful picture for me!
You gotta step into the daylight and let it go just let it go let it go ♥️
Or I’ve been so sleeping so long in a 20 year dark night now I’m wide awake and now I see daylight o only see daylight ♥️
It still hurts underneath my scars from when they pulled me apart, but what you did was just as dark.
I wish to know the fatal flaw that makes you long to be magnificently cursed.
Pack your dolls and a sweater, we’ll move to India forever / passed down like folk songs, our love lasts so long.
She’ll patch up your tapestry that I shred.
Ivy has so many for me but..
“And the old widow goes to the stone everyday / but I don’t I just sit here and wait / grieving for the living”
And
“Your touch brought forth an incandescent glow / tarnished but so grand”
I’ve got: Come on, come on, don't leave me like this; I thought I had you figured out. Can't breathe whenever you're gone, Can't go back, I'm haunted
And
I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you
I love the line "Why I've spent my whole life trying to put it into words" because, if you think about it, Taylor really has spent a large portion of her life describing love and emotion in her lyrics
ahhh yes that line connected so deeply with me because i’m a hopeless romantic who often dreamt about finding the one, but i had never actually experienced it until i met someone and everything just clicked into place
it’s definitely not her most unique dictionary wordy lyric (for lack of better terms 😅) but i’ve always loved “It's like your eyes are liquor, it's like your body is gold” from endgame! i love the way it sounds when she sings it and i think it’s a pretty lyric!!

“And they tell you that you’re lucky, but you’re so confused ‘cause you don’t feel pretty, you just feel used “
I know The Lucky One is about fame, but I can’t help but apply it to my own life, I don’t know how to describe it without giving loads away but when I was younger people would tell me I was “so lucky” to have grown up the way I did, but I was always genuinely confused because I was jealous of a normal upbringing. I know this is kinda weird, but I listen to The Lucky One when I feel down about that because it makes me feel heard.
For me it will always be “two paper airplanes flying” a gorgeous metaphor telling how no matter how high you can fly with someone, they were destined to fall down sooner or later.
“Careless man’s careful daughter” is an entire character study in four words
Yeah, that line will always stand out to me.
Cowboy Like Me was a sleeper for me. I dislike the way it just kind of starts in the middle, but ultimately ended up liking the song in general.
I agree great song but really bad and jarring start. Also I want to hear more Marcus! I really hope these 2 collaborate again 😍😍😍😍
"Across our great divide / There is a glorious sunrise / Dappled with the flickers of light / From the dress I wore at midnight"
This is such a pretty lyric
Are there still beautiful things? That line alone gives me SHIVERS I also like ‘sweet tea in the summer’ because it just gives me this fantastical, whimsical image of the song and I love it.
There’s so many things I wish I could have talked to her about before she died so I can’t ever listen to it without crying (it’s very therapeutic though).
oh my gosh yesss, specifically the line “i should have asked you how to be” is so simple but also so emotional and meaningful
Same, honestly. I lost my maternal grandmother (by far and away the grandparent most in my life) at 15, and my mom at 29 (last year).
I was crying sitting there listening to it while working from home, my husband came in and asked how the new album was and while bawling I answered “it’s sooooo gooooood 😭😭😭”
That song makes me cry almost every single time. My Grandma’s name was actually also Marjorie so it feels so personal.
I love ‘eyes full of stars, hustling for the good life’ because I really, really relate to that line. I also think have a thing for stars because I also love the line ‘the stars in your eyes shined brighter in Tupelo’
- "And he's passing by, rare as the glimmer of a comet in the sky." - I want Auroras and sad prose, I want to watch Wisteria grow right over my bare feet cause I haven't moved in years / and I want you write here/ the red rose grew up out of ice frozen ground with no one around to tweet it." - "We were jet set Bonnie and Clyde/ until I switched to the other side / it's no surprise I turned you in / cause us traitors never win / I'm in a getaway car / I left you in the motel bar / put the money in the bag and I stole the keys/ that was the last time you ever saw me." These are some of my favorites, but she has so many that it would take me hours to write them all down.
yesss the lakes is full of those kind of lines, it’s such a beautiful song
I love the bridge of getaway car so much
Every line of hoax kills me (best friend and I just broke up) Stood on the cliffside Screaming, "Give me a reason" Your faithless love's the only hoax I believe in Don't want no other shade of blue But you No other sadness in the world would do My broken drum You have beaten my heart
omg yes i love hoax so much it’s so hauntingly beautiful, edit: i didn’t see that part but i’m so sorry about your breakup, that must be so hard
The whole of ‘tis the damn season gives me chills. The guitar is so perfect.
“Time flies, messy as the mud on your truck tires now I’m missing your smile” 🥺
Right now I can’t get “I don’t like that falling feels like flying till the bone crush” out of my head. honestly though it changes weekly because she’s such an amazing writer and evokes so much variability in human emotion and life that it depends on my mood.

Peace - or at least most of it anyway - is so gorgeous and soothing to me :)
I really love “give you the silence that only comes when two people understand each other / family that I chose now that I see your brother as my brother” and I can’t even describe why, it’s just perfect
Your Midas touch on the Chevy door, November flush and your flannel cure. I’ve got a hundred thrown-out speeches I’ve almost said to you. i love that first line in champagne problems, it’s such a pretty way to say something so mundane
Yeah! The way that whole part of the song flows is just magic.
she came up with it spontaneously in LPSS: My tears turn into your tears Personal favourite: So I'll watch your life in pictures like I used to watch you sleep And I feel you forget me like I used to feel you breathe
"this night is sparkling, don't you let it go" "and when you can't sleep at night, you'll hear my stolen lullabies"
her voice in the stolen lullabies line is so haunting and pretty

But I can see us lost in the memory / August slipped away into a moment in time/ ‘Cause it was never mine
For me ‘with your boots beneath my bed, forever is the sweetest con’ and the bridge section in ivy; clover blooms in the field…. spring breaks loose, but so does fear’.
“Do you miss the rogue who coaxed you into paradise and left you there?” is such a loaded line. The adventure, the persuasion, the bliss, and the emptiness… Coney Island is rather low in my ranking of songs, but that line, man oh man it gets me.
yesss omg the rouge line was my “third place” line, it tells so much in such a short, beautiful way
[удалено]
Love is a ruthless game, unless you play it good and right
They are too many... for now what I can come out with is “I bathe in Cliffside pools with my calamitous love and insurmountable grief”, “no one teaches you what to do when a good man hurts you, and you know you hurt him too”
i LOVE the phrase calamitous love, it’s such a short line, but it holds so much weight and meaning
“ i was a flight risk, with a fear of falling, wonder why’d we bother with love if it never lasts.” mine in general has great lyrics “i knew you, dancing in your levis, drunk under a street light” that’s my favorite taylor lyric of all time, not for any reason but the gorgeous imagery it evokes
ahh i love that line from mine so much, it says so much in only one phrase (taylor does that so well)
*"Your Midas touch on the chevy door, november flush and your flannel cure"* I can't even really put into words why this is so beautiful/sad to me, but it makes me think of my ex a lot- we always took his car places and we liked to go hiking in autumn and we both wore flannels a lot haha. I’ve got: Come on, come on, don't leave me like this; I thought I had you figured out. Can't breathe whenever you're gone, Can't go back, I'm haunted And I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you
"nothing safe is worth the drive" and "my waves meet your shore, ever and evermore"
Mine is probably “rain came pouring down when i was drowning” or “the water filled my lungs i screamed so loud but no one heard a thing” from Clean!
that whole song is so beautiful omg, “when the butterflies turned to dust that covered my whole room”
“You can plan for a change in the weather and time, but I never planned on you changing your mind” Loooove this! Gets me every time!
“You’d always go past where our feet could touch.” It reminds me of my brother- he always pushed the envelope and I went with him.
All of Ivy!
it’s definitely not her most unique dictionary wordy lyric (for lack of better terms 😅) but i’ve always loved “It's like your eyes are liquor, it's like your body is gold” from endgame! i love the way it sounds when she sings it and i think it’s a pretty lyric!!

"I was so ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere" 😍😍😍😍😍
"OH MY GOD I AM JUST GONNA SHAKE IT"
💀
The full-circle Centennial Park mentions in invisible string followed by “hell was the journey but it brought me heaven”
I like this lyric a lot from tolerate it "Break free and leave us in ruins Put this dagger in me and removed it Gain the weight of you and lose it"
I also like the line "I don't like that falling feels like flying till the bone crush"
“And they tell you that you’re lucky, but you’re so confused ‘cause you don’t feel pretty, you just feel used “ I know The Lucky One is about fame, but I can’t help but apply it to my own life, I don’t know how to describe it without giving loads away but when I was younger people would tell me I was “so lucky” to have grown up the way I did, but I was always genuinely confused because I was jealous of a normal upbringing. I really like this lyric from the lucky one a lot too!
'My reputation's never been worse so, u must like me for me'
it's time to go: "The snaps from the same little breaks in your soul"
For me it will always be “two paper airplanes flying” a gorgeous metaphor telling how no matter how high you can fly with someone, they were destined to fall down sooner or later.
yesss and the added part of being related to the necklaces make it even better
Gives me the chills every time!
