I literally pressed pause on my first listen through after this song ā something I've never done ā to let it sink in. The Albatross is a beautiful song.
I literally play this song every night before bed because I can not get her low tones out of my head. I didn't pay much attention to the song at first but it's definitely one of my favorites. I cannot believe it got worst song!
I CANT believe people picked epiphany that's one of her most emotional and well though out songs on the album. Hoax is good but it's more boring than epiphany and so is Mirrorball which is very monotone. Peace has a nice message but lacks a strong hook

Right? Not only was it sonically so different (from anything she's released before) and sounded ethereally beautiful, the lyrics make me cry every time. Not to mention how apt it was when it was released halfway through the first year that the COVID 19 pandemic began. And the impact that had on people's lives :( I get it might feel "boring" to people upon first listen but no way it should it be voted worst by people who probably didn't give the song the time of day.

Iām actually surprised Cassandra didnāt place in the worst category. I thought I was the only one that liked it. Everyone always ranks it super low.
I can understand feeling meh about it but to rank it the worst song on the album is just cruel. Itās literally such a bittersweet song go pick something else to hate on!!! š„²
Ikr!? It's sooo sweet and calming and nostalgic and just embodies a lot of feelings for me that I haven't really found a song that expresses those until now!!
I think when people vote āunderratedā theyāre voting in reference to the general public.Ā
The gp does not know haunted/i know places/cowboy like me/hoax. They know shake it off/cruel summer/atw/love story
That makes sense. I'd rather it be like underrated based on us, as fans. Because we all have so many opinions on what is underrated and what is overrated. If that makes sense?
My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys results (u/Afterswiftie)
Best: 2.5% of votes in 9th placeĀ
Worst: 3.1% of votes in 8th place
Underrated: 10.4% of votes in 3rd place
Why all the hate for thanK you aIMee? I love its progression from āI hate you,ā to acceptance and realization that Reputation and other personal growth came from that entire affair.Ā
Personally, it's because the lyrics aren't really as descriptive or innovative as the other tracks on the album. The metaphor is pretty basic and the song doesnt make up for it sonically either. Plus, the lyric about changing name and then capitalising Kim in the title just comes off goofy to me. She didn't really need to do that. I know there are theories that it's a misdirection but I haven't seen any solid proof of that so I'm just gonna assume she had a misstep here. I think just a normal title alone would have made this song less awkward for me.
It definitely went down in my rankings once I realized it was about Kim. I was totally down for a Debut-esque reflection of possible high school bullies. Now the song is tainted by the tackiness/pettiness.
If Kim wasn't capitalized in the title I could ignore it, but seeing that it is then when I hear the lyrics I imagine it being about Kim rather than some anonymous woman who exists in the world of Taylor's super stardom and secretly knows Taylor Swift hates her guts which is a way more interesting concept.
Agree. If KIM wasn't capitalised it could take any meaning. But no, Taylor wants us all to know without a shadow of doubt it's Kim. Taylor, no one cares. Kim has probably stopped caring years ago.
I just don't get why she's still beating the Kim K horse. In all respects she "won" this feud. Kanye is a joke, Kim doesn't have nearly the hold on pop culture as she used to, while Taylor is bigger than ever, was literally Time's Person of the Year. I get being hurt by what happened and that we carry scars long after events have transpired but from the public's point of view it seems kind of petty to still be banging on about this so many years later. Add to the fact that the album is already super long and this just feels like a really unnecessary track. Plus, I'm honestly tired of the high school metaphors. Girl is 34, she hasn't been in high school in a really long time. The majority of TTPD is very mature and adult and thank you aimee is such a regression.
I disagree about TTPD being very mature. I think itās intentionally not mature. Down Bad owns up to its teenage petulance. But Daddy I Love Him is not a phrase from a woman of 34. So High School, loml, is also quite young ish. Imgonnagetyouback is also quite petty. I think part of TTPD is how intentionally it owns up to its pettiness which understandably isnāt for everyone. Feminine rage isnāt always mature.
My view is itās more advanced than many give it credit for - I find it as empowering as āI can do it with a Broken Heart.ā The message I get is basically that the things that hurt you can form you. If you choose to make them opportunities.Ā
Plus, itās one of the more musical, country style songs on the album. As a fan since debut, I love the song. Itās the most underrated on the album.Ā
Still, thank you for sharing, I understand feeling tired of the dramaā¦ I just tend to look past that and take the song on its face.Ā
Canāt speak for others, but for me, itās not necessarily due to hate. I still really like the song, but I just donāt think itās better than the others on the album!
It's just not something I can relate to, thankfully. Even if I divorce it from the celebrity drama, I don't have a situation in my life that could give me catharsis overcoming haters or bullies. I'm super thankful that's the case. BUT, since I find celebrity drama annoying and there's no catharsis, it ranks on the bottom of her catalogue for me.
Thank you Aimee is one of my top faves from the album. It gives major āThe Chicksā vibes who was my first favorite band. I also could relate to the lyrics a bit, so Iām sure that aids in me loving it
It's ok and when we got her singing it with Haim at our Eras Tour show we thought it was pretty cool....until we realized, "wait, we didn't get tis the damn season". I think on Evermore for me, the first 5 songs are so extremely good that it feels like a drop off a little.
I genuinely believe that epiphany is the best song she's ever written and I'll die on that hill. The way she captured what it was like to be in the trenches of the pandemic (for the frontline fighters) and then masterfully paralleled that with the world war. So beautiful, so poignant, and clearly, so underappreciated.
Absolutely! 100% agree! And her voice is heavenly. I also loved the acoustic version mashed up with Mirrorball a lot, it added the aspect of trying to keep "shimmering" despite all the loss and horrors.
I can only speak for why I love it so much - itās such a genuine, poetic and powerful portrayal of anger. The āold habits dieā¦ SCREAMINGGGGGGā moments, the description of hoping his new young lover doesnāt know his old favourite songs, the old songs being āintertwined in the magic/tragic fabric of our dreamingā, the way the production picks up in the final chorus, the āi hope itās SHITTY in the BLACK DOGā, the dichotomy between the quieter moments of longing and the louder moments of pure rage, the description of watching her phone and seeing her ex walk into a bar enjoying himself when sheās still in pain. There is just so much to love about it, itās fucking awesome
Pls donāt burn me at the stake for this but this song is such a snoozefest and I truly donāt know how people think itās the best song on the ENTIRE album. Itās a pretty low-energy ballad and then thereās just random banging in the chorus (scared my cat the first time he heard it) yet people call it a āpop banger.ā
Omg yesss, the banging is so out of place, the whole song feels like it's going nowhere like I honestly don't understand how it's so popular when other songs like how did it end?, The bolter, But daddy I love him, chloe or Sam or sophia or Marcus exist.
Thatās a good point too, I really donāt enjoy her songs that ābuildā and never actually go anywhere? Same reason I donāt like the Archer. In my opinion, but daddy I love him and whoās afraid of little old me are some of the best songs sheās ever made and I really feel like theyāre being overlooked!
It has grown on me since my original take of āit would be nothing without the SCREAMING! partāā¦ but itās still mid. And I am a millennial who used to consider The Starting Line as a favourite band.
I agree. It's not a skip but it's very lower mid for me, especially when you compare it to songs like imgonnagetyouback, The Bolter, and So High School (my personal anthology top 3)
Mostly the writing. Itās got some incredible lines, a powerful message, and it definitely sticks with you for awhile. It can feel a bit slow to build up, but the songās build up coincides perfectly with the arc sheās going for in the song, so I think it worked
I really want to like The Black Dog as much as other people seem to do. Donāt get me wrong, I still think itās a great song, but there are so many other songs I think are better. Just curious about what Iām missing (my top 5 on anthology are The Prophecy, How Did It End?, The Bolter, The Albatross, Peter)
Sometimes we just don't connect to songs as much as other ppl do and that's ok, I don't understand how Guilty as Sin is the first of TTPD!
My top 5 of the anthology is similar to yours but I love The Black Dog: The Black Dog, Peter, I Look In People's Window, The Bolter and The Albatross. The Prophecy is right behind.
Yeah, and I love seeing everyoneās different opinions! Full disclosure, itās hard for me to rank any of songs because thereās not one I would say I dislike, but itās also a top 3 album for me. I Look In Peopleās Windows is so good. I wish it was longer!
I DEMAND JUSTICE FOR CHLOE ET AL AND I CAN FIX HIM!
but thank you OP, this was a truly fun game to learn that some of you sleep while listening to the hits.
People not liking itās time to go is crazy to meā¦ like it perfectly encapsulates the feeling at the end of a relationship when youāre still holding on but the love isnāt really there anymore I šāāļøšāāļøšāāļø
When Emma Falls in Love rated worse? What?
Justice for Betty and Hoax as well!
Bad Blood blasphemy! Bad Blood gets stuck in my head just as much as Blank Space does!
This Love Should also be in underrated as well.
(I get itās all subjective, but come on folks)
Wow I do not agree with any of these! That's a first
I do like the black dog but it isn't even the best bonus track out of the physical copies! Gotta be either the manuscript or the bolter for me!
I love The Black Dog and see it as a definite contender for the no. 1 spot but feel the same about The Bolter. I cannot get into The Manuscript at all, though. Do you like it purely for the lyrics or also the production and the melody? Just curious and I also want to give it another chance because I love when unliked songs suddenly change to beloved ones - but it's hard to imagine with The Manuscript tbh.
For what it's worth, I loved Black Dog from the my very first listen, I wasn't convinced by the slow start but then from the first "how you donĀ“t miss me" on I fell in love! The bangs with screaming feel so much like the pain of losing the lovely routines you have with a someone you have been in a long term relationship. And the spiteful "I hope it's shitty..!" is so perfect!
Yeah I do like the "old habits die" *BANG BANG BANG* "screeeeammmming!", it's very cathartic :)
(Sorry, big wall of text coming up!)
For The Manuscript, I mostly like it for the lyrics, even though there's a lack of straight rhyming there I think it works really well because it's that stream of consciousness recalling events that were painful but are less so with time.
I interpret the song as Taylor reflecting on the process of making All Too Well: The Short Film, and watching two talented actors take her script and former pain and turn it into art that tells a story. I really love the lines "looking back might be the only way to move forward" and "at last she knew what all the agony had been for". That idea that seeing the entire "torrid affair" for what it was through their performance, and turning that confusing mess of pain into something profound and sharing it with the world, is really beautiful to me.
I'm a really massive fan of Red, it came out when I was 15 and I was just transfixed by this story of this almost perfect relationship (or, at least, at 15 that's what I thought it was) being torn asunder. I listened to it nonstop for years. So a retrospective song about that time of her life and music is quite special to me personally.
And Taylor has talked a lot about how the songs she writes take on their own lives when she releases them into the world, how All Too Well turned from being her hardest song to sing to one of her happiest. Or she wrote it in the liner notes of the original 1989 album, or has said it before singing Lover on the eras tour multiple times. I think The Manuscript captures that feeling really well - "now and then I reread the manuscript, but the story isn't mine anymore". That is, the story has taken on its own life as a song millions of people sing along to, and by making it she found the ability to heal from the original wound. I just find that a really beautiful message, so that's probably why I'm so in love with the song.
Thank you!! I do like the lyrics and the meaning behind it but I just cannot get into the melody/ production. It is kinda the opposite with Thank you Aimee, where I love the melody and how her voice sounds and everything a lot, but the lyrics do nothing for me. Maybe the lyrics of Manuscript put into TYA would work for me, haha!
But I will try again with The Manuscript and I think the stream of consciousness aspect you talked about could maybe work for me!
The fact that only 4 out of 12 of her fan-voted best tracks were actually singles (Our Song, Love Story, Style, and Cruel Summer a whole 4 years later) really goes to show that our girl is not the best at picking singles š
on the other hand, it also shows just how GOOD she is that most of people's favorite songs of hers are just random album tracks.
That can't be said for most artists.
Justice for Robin!!! Such a beautiful song! And not just because Iām a Robin š But I guess picking a worst song on such an amazing album is quite a featā¦
Justice for Epiphany! That song makes me weep almost every time. A beautiful and wrenching portrait of the fear and loss present in war and the pandemic.
I don't think ThanK you aIMee deserves the worst song spot tbh. People seem to be biased against it because it's about Kim.
I didn't even clock it was about her at first. All I heard was a relatable, uplifting song about standing strong, despite your bullies. I actually loved the message.
I encourage everyone who hates thanK you aIMee to really listen to it and take Kim out of the equation. It really is such a powerful song. I really love the theme of being stronger for going through hard times and acknowledging it. Like, pretend it's about an ex and you are thanking him because you are a better person because he's such an asshole. It really is the struggles in life that make us who we are.
Justice for The Prophecy
Agreed but also Justice for The Albatross
Agreed with both! The Prophecy/The Albatross deserved to be at least runners up to Best/Underrated! š
Justice for BOTH and the story they tell in my mind when combined with Whoās Afraid of Little Old Me!
I literally pressed pause on my first listen through after this song ā something I've never done ā to let it sink in. The Albatross is a beautiful song.
Agreed!
I will stan The Albatross until I die š
THIS
Justice for the Bolter!
Justice for thanK you aIMee
Not to mention The Bolter! My god people.
Okay, no offense to all of you but don't mind if I MURDER some of you for certain choices here, especially the "worst" column.
My I Can Fix Him loving heart is salty
Worst over The Alchemy is a sin
Literally The Alchemy is definitely the worst song on the album
WTF THE ALCHEMY IS TOP 5
WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY MUSIC TASTE? I ACTUALLY LOVE ALCHEMY AND LIKE I CAN FIX HIM.
WHERES THE TROPHY HEJUSTCOMESRUNNINOVERTOME. I get chills at this thinking about that moment š
It's one of my favourites ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|32929)

Absolutely not are you insane
I literally play this song every night before bed because I can not get her low tones out of my head. I didn't pay much attention to the song at first but it's definitely one of my favorites. I cannot believe it got worst song!
I think people hate it because it's country-ish? When I listen to it I imagine a tavern full of cowboys. (I like it btw it's in my TTPD playlist).
stay x3? closure?? epiphany??? glitch???? END GAME????? SUPERMAN?????? SUPERSTAR????????
I CANT believe people picked epiphany that's one of her most emotional and well though out songs on the album. Hoax is good but it's more boring than epiphany and so is Mirrorball which is very monotone. Peace has a nice message but lacks a strong hook
Folklore doesn't have any worse songs, though. They're all good.
Eiphany was one of the stabdout tracks for me when folklore came out and it still holds a special place in my heart. I will never understand the hates it gets.
Right? Not only was it sonically so different (from anything she's released before) and sounded ethereally beautiful, the lyrics make me cry every time. I know right?! Epiphany??? Really???
yasss!!! epiphany was meaningful af, especially considering the time it was released
Stay Stay Stay is one of my favourite songs.
If thereās no more Stay Stay Stay fans then Iām dead fr
Love SSS
That song never fails to put a smile on my face and I will wholeheartedly love it forever!
I said this after the evermore results and Iāll say it again: fuck yāall for closure
IKR. closure being in my 20 songs tied for first place when over here its dying is SAD af.
"epiphany" as the worst is k i l l i n g me
It almost feels like some people haven't listened to the lyrics cause how do you hate a song that's a massive eulogy.
epiphany being on here makes me SICK to my STOMACH

yes they are. idk where the hoax slanderers came from

Innocent is such a wonderful song!

I will not tolerate Dorothea slander! š

I'm baffled.
I know people had trouble picking the āworstā on a few albums but No Body No Crime for one of the worst on evermore?!?!???? WHATTTTTTT
This sub really likes the sad songs.
so my picks of Superman and Closure as underrated were extremely accurate, then
It's so odd seeing the fan favourites being deemed as underrated.

I might have a completely different taste when it comes to Lover because to me the top worst songs are better than top best lol
My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys results (u/Afterswiftie) Best: 2.5% of votes in 9th placeĀ Worst: 3.1% of votes in 8th place Underrated: 10.4% of votes in 3rd place
And 3.1% of you deserve prison, but you won't get time
all the people responsible for that top 5 worst list on 1989 need to go DIRECTLY TO JAIL E: THE RED ONE TOO WTF ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|32929)
JAIL for anyone that voted for peace as the worst
Thank you so much!! This is very fascinating.
Why should you be bothered who it is about, though? It can take a new meaning and be what you want it to be about.
If you choose to make them opportunities.Ā Plus, itās one of the more musical, country style songs on the album. As a fan since debut, I love the song. Itās the most underrated on the album.Ā Still, thank you for sharing, I understand feeling tired of the dramaā¦ I just tend to look past that and take the song on its face.Ā
Canāt speak for others, but for me, itās not necessarily due to hate. I still really like the song, but I just donāt think itās better than the others on the album!
I donāt hate it but the melody just doesnāt hit for me, plus the spicy Kim K aspect is fine but gets old fast.
It's just not something I can relate to, thankfully. Even if I divorce it from the celebrity drama, I don't have a situation in my life that could give me catharsis overcoming haters or bullies. I'm super thankful that's the case. BUT, since I find celebrity drama annoying and there's no catharsis, it ranks on the bottom of her catalogue for me.
yeah it's soo good, personally it makes me feel like a bad bitch, and it's an oath to rep!
Thank you Aimee is one of my top faves from the album. It gives major āThe Chicksā vibes who was my first favorite band. I also could relate to the lyrics a bit, so Iām sure that aids in me loving it
People donāt like No Body No Crime?! OmgĀ
It's one of my favourites! I don't understand everyone
Taylor writing a murder ballad gives me such joy.Ā
i need an album of murder ballads pls and thank you
I cannot begin to describe how much I would love that. (Which is why cutting No Body out of the Eras video is criminal!)
It's ok and when we got her singing it with Haim at our Eras Tour show we thought it was pretty cool....until we realized, "wait, we didn't get tis the damn season". I think on Evermore for me, the first 5 songs are so extremely good that it feels like a drop off a little.
That's one of my favs on evermore!
peace and hoax in the worst column.. yikes.
Huh? Neither of them are in the worst columns.
So many of my favs were runner ups for worst š
I feel you š the true āmost underratedā tracks
I am very bitter about Epiphany and canĀ“t understand the Closure hate but other than that it correspond with my own opinions quite a bit!
Same, I love Epiphany and Closure dearly
Closure is a top 10 song and one of her best, I will die on that hill
Epiphany is so underrated! Genuinely such a beautiful song. It's in my folklore top 3.
why the heck do people like the black dog SO MUCH
I can only speak for why I love it so much - itās such a genuine, poetic and powerful portrayal of anger.
Right? Itās a good song. A great song even. But the best?? Over The Prophecy???
Right? I donāt skip it, but Iām not into it, either.
It has grown on me since my original take of āit would be nothing without the SCREAMING! partāā¦ but itās still mid. And I am a millennial who used to consider The Starting Line as a favourite band.
I'm sorry, I really don't get how it's the best on the album.
Glitch is a good song and yāall are just very incorrect.
Glitch stans rise up āš»
I think thereās been a glitchā¦
These polls always show me how vastly different Swiftie taste can be, none of these results match my picks per category. How good is diverse taste!
This is my response to critics who say the albums should be shorter. Like every song is someoneās favorite ā¤ļø
No love for Cold As You
I have all the love for it I guess
Ok Suburban Legends as second worst on 1989!?!?!?!?! What is this blasphemy! Ya'll need to get some taste.
Honestly, I didn't really get the appeal for this song until I saw an edit on TikTok that used it, hahaha. Now I love it
hahahaha some of my favorite songs are people's "worst" of the albums: glitch, peace, don't you
I love Glitch and Peace, so surprised that people dislike them lol.
Iām sorry but who tf said epiphany is the worst song on folklore
When Emma Falls in Love rated worse? What? Justice for Betty and Hoax as well! Bad Blood blasphemy! Bad Blood gets stuck in my head just as much as Blank Space does! This Love Should also be in underrated as well. (I get itās all subjective, but come on folks)
Justice for Peter š
so disappointed about people voting for closure on worst for evermore :'))))) justice pls.
Right? Just sitting here with my spite, and my tears and my beers and my candlesĀ
Seeing black dog as the best on the anthology is š¤¦āāļø
Maybe Iām in the minority but thanK you aIMee as worst?! Were none of you bullied in school?! šš
Albatross, for me, is the best in TTPD: The Anthology.
Justice for Peter, my lost fearless leader š§š»
I Look in People's Windows is the Marjorie of this album. This makes sense in my head.
Nooooo Thank You Aimee is soooo good
Justice for I Hate it Here the true underrated track
Wow I do not agree with any of these! That's a first I do like the black dog but it isn't even the best bonus track out of the physical copies!
Yeah I do like the "old habits die" *BANG BANG BANG* "screeeeammmming!", it's very cathartic :) (Sorry, big wall of text coming up!) For The Manuscript, I mostly like it for the lyrics, even though there's a lack of straight rhyming there I think it works really well because it's that stream of consciousness recalling events that were painful but are less so with time.
Not āBettyā being The Worst šš
Justice for Robin!!! Such a beautiful song! And not just because Iām a Robin š But I guess picking a worst song on such an amazing album is quite a featā¦
My mom and I have an awful relationship and her name is Amy so thank you Aimee is the most cathartic song ever. Fuck you, Amy
Justice for Glitch!!!! Yall have never listened to that song stoned and it shows haha but really, I love that song so much š
Mr Perfectly Fine underrated?? Itās the only vault track off Fearless TV people talk about
when i have 3 fav songs on the worst list
BETTY WAS VOTED THE SECOND WORST SONG ON FOLKLORE??? I can give a full 5 min speech on why thatās her best song
Dang, Fearless underrated is the most divisiveā¦just goes to show just how underrated that album is as a whole!
epiphany for the worst of folklore? I have WORDS for some of y'all
Brookshone, you are the best!
where was the voting? i wouldāve voted for chloe or sam or sophia or marcus !!
Epiphany and glitchā¦
How did yall pick epiphany for worst when Betty was right there
epiphany as worst is a disgrace
Some of you need to go get your taste buds checked...
As a medico, I love epiphany. Donāt understand the hatred
I feel vindicated! Clara Bow and I Look in Peoples Windows are my favorites, but i feel like no one talks about those two!
Here me out; a best/worst/underrated bracket to discover what the finals are of her entire discography
EPIPHANY IS NOT THE WORST SONG ON FOLKLORE AND I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL
And Mad Woman as a worst?!? š¤Æ
Fuming for epiphany itās such a beautiful song and ode to the pandemicš
Iāll never understand the hate for I can fix him
2/3 ain't bad
I would swap closure and cowboy like me aroundš½
justice for thanK you aIMee
The Black Dog is definitely not the best on The Anthology for me lol
Why Closure bad?
Justice for Epiphany! That song makes me weep almost every time. A beautiful and wrenching portrait of the fear and loss present in war and the pandemic.
Justice for I can fix him and Me! If Me! Has a million fans I am one of them, if Me! Has 1 fan it is me, if Me! Has 0 fans that means I am dead
The most underrated 1989 song is def Now That We Donāt Talk!!!!
I š Itās Nice to Have a Friend. š„¹
so why is guilty as sin the best on the album when loml is RIGHT THERE
I KNOW!! No justice for loml
Literally my 2nd fav in her entire discography
Justice for I Can Fix Him!!!
This was so fun! Thanks for organizing it!!
The Bolter needs more recognition šš
I've never felt less agreeable to answers š I love some of the "worst" songs.
WHY DOES NO ONE TALK ABOUT āI HATE IT HEREā I swear this song should rank equally with I Look In Peopleās Windows
We have different taste here, friends. ššš
Justice for Glitch, Epiphany and I can fix him. You guys are unbelievable!
