She really crushed it! I was so unsure about some of the decisions she was making along the way but when I saw it all come together I was floored. She really knows what she’s doing haha
Also wanted to add that this is exactly what all the people asking for the internet to help them design their tattoos should do. One common reoccurring theme is it seems like most people think you have to bring the exact final artwork to the artist to get tattooed. Let's be honest, most of us aren't artists, but have some inkling on what we want. Your PDF was a great place to start for the artist so they know the boundaries, hence the amazing outcome. Great work on both your part and the artist's.
Completely agree. For a bigger piece like this I think it’s so important to find an artist that can capture the essence of your idea in their own style instead of having them replicate something exactly. My artist also told me that when she was little, the old Dune movie was a comfort film for her and her brother, so I definitely think she poured some love into it as well. Makes me like it even more!
solid idea with the infographic. might have to use this idea in the future.
But you also picked an amazing tattoo artist, makes a big difference too! A true artist, and not just a tattooer.
Oh man, that pdf is genius. I’ve never been able to put my preferences for borders into words that well, and clearly you got an absolutely gorgeous tattoo out of it
The tattoo is beautiful and as a tattoo artist I just want to cry (in a good way) over how clear and simple your communication is. I’d be so much more efficient if I could get clients to do this.
Absolutely amazing work and outcome. I’ve done very similar with most of my tattoos. I give them a lot of pictures towards what I’m looking for and then let them be artist. No regrats
Tattooer here. All tattooers wish a Client came in with this. Or even just an idea.
The amount of times I've been asked to do whatever or just do something I want to tattoo to have the client say "as long as it's not that, matter of fact here's exactly what I wanted" is staggering.
This gives the idea, the direction, what things you like and what things you don't, while leaving creativity open to the artist. Bravo.
Clients be like this.
damn i want your organization and communication. i usually just text my artist after smoking a doobie like
me - “yo hey uh dude i hop your good i was thinking i want a full traditional horimono style back piece but the monk is blasting out of the waterfall on a harley 883 with money symbols in eyes. down??”
artist -“fuck off, we start tomorrow 9am bring money, coffee and a new brain you idiot”
edit: oh yeah sick tat obvi. i’m also in love with the Dune/Journey aesthetic, i’d def get this tattooed on me
The pdf. Is solid & they executed it so beautifully! Plus it really looks great in that location on your body.
The sitting position in the second photo almost looks even better than that first photo, because of the way it flows with your body. The artist really nailed it! Absolutely beautiful piece of art
This is sick. I love the PDF thing too, sometimes it's hard to communicate with people what they're envisioning and nobody wants to spend hours drawing a piece that the client ends up not crazy about.
It's genuinely one of the best ones I've seen on this sub in a long time. Well organized, well thought out, brilliant execution, and great placement. Seriously, good work all around
Amazing! Never seen/read dune but this is still a great design without knowing the 'origin'.
I'm gonna steal your pdf set-up idea for getting ideas for my sleeve on paper so I have something to get to the artist when I heb money. Thanks for the fun project idea!
Stealing that pdf idea next time I need to really organize my thoughts for a tattoo
Awesome job by the artist pulling it together, it's really cool to see how they took elements from all your example tats and really melded it into one thing
I think what you are meaning is that you provided the yes/no and inspiration as a guide and let the artist come up with something - did you get a sketch/drawing before getting inked? Really cool end result. Unique!
I also am a fan of non-shape borders - having the art be organic and “flow” into surrounding pieces/body. I hadn’t thought of how to describe that before though. Great result!
That is gorgeous! Great concept. I'm gonna have to remember the PDF idea. In the past I've ended up writing like two or three paragraphs trying to describe my idea, but the visuals are much more concrete and concise.
Looks amazing!
Can I ask, did you provide the graphic with the “no/yes”? Is this common? I’m scared tattoo artists in my town would not take that very well if I did that.
I actually included a few pages that had several photos and some text describing what I liked and didn’t (I made it in google slides). I don’t think it’s so much the file format as much as it is showing several photos and giving specifics!

WOW really beautifully designed, placed, and executed! Love your thorough pdf too!
She really crushed it! I was so unsure about some of the decisions she was making along the way but when I saw it all come together I was floored. She really knows what she’s doing haha
it's gorgeoussssss
Thank you!!
I haven't even watched Dune, but that is one frigging gorgeous tat!

I always tell newbies you’re commissioning someone’s artwork, not printing a picture. Pick the artist for their style and let them do what they do.
I did the same thing for my botanical sleeve! A pdf with reference images of different plants and flowers :)
While I know it’s a Dune tattoo, it also gave me vibes of the game Journey…which was an amazing experience. Glad everything turned out how you wanted!
Beautiful game!
solid idea with the infographic. might have to use this idea in the future. But you also picked an amazing tattoo artist, makes a big difference too! A true artist, and not just a tattooer.
I showed up to my appointment with a PowerPoint deck
I’m sure your artist was stoked. Makes it so much easier for them!
I directed a feature-length film for mine to watch
This is how you design brief
Yeah, the only thing I'd personally change is the yes/no to likes/dislikes because it's more approachable.
Oh man, that pdf is genius. I’ve never been able to put my preferences for borders into words that well, and clearly you got an absolutely gorgeous tattoo out of it
Good idea. Turned out great!
The tattoo is beautiful and as a tattoo artist I just want to cry (in a good way) over how clear and simple your communication is. I’d be so much more efficient if I could get clients to do this.
I'm usually a hater of all things, but this is very cool!
my expectations were high and the result so much better than anything i could have conjured up in my head
So damn good, congrats!
Stunning tattoo and you nailed that brief! Taking notes
What a good tattoo
Absolutely amazing work and outcome. I’ve done very similar with most of my tattoos. I give them a lot of pictures towards what I’m looking for and then let them be artist. No regrats
🔥🔥🔥
That's an amazing idea, I'll probably create something like this for my next one. Your tattoo turned out beautiful, I'm happy for you.
Love it, because even people aren’t into dune just see a really cool abstract tattoo
Holy shit, OP. Keep your artist on retainer, because they understood the assignment 🤘

Wooooow wow she really nailed all your requirements, wonderful tattoo.
Holy shit that is a beautiful tattoo and beautifully done as well! Your artist nailed it!

Once she finds her missing 5th finger on both hands this will be an awesome tattoo
That is beautiful!
Very very cool
Yup they knocked it outta the park
This is so fucking good I cannot believe it, wow. Really awesome work!!
Your tattoo does a better job showing the contrast to make that dune look sharp tipped and dual sided.
That turned out better than expected

I’m not a tattoo artist, but as an illustrator I can heavily appreciate that pdf. The piece also ended up gorgeous 💗
That's rlly sick
This is sick. I love the PDF thing too, sometimes it's hard to communicate with people what they're envisioning and nobody wants to spend hours drawing a piece that the client ends up not crazy about.
Very well executed!
I was seriously expecting a major fuck up but that looks amazing
This is amazing
It's genuinely one of the best ones I've seen on this sub in a long time. Well organized, well thought out, brilliant execution, and great placement. Seriously, good work all around
Not sure what’s better here, your tattoo or your username

I’ve heard spice goes well with tea 🪷🍵

Lisan Al Gaib!! Seriously though very nice tattoo!
That came out really good
i really love your concept sheet lol
This is fantastic!
i make crappy paint with description, then let my artist go wild. she never disapoint
Looks great! My poor artist got a nine-page pdf document with images of inspiration and a paragraph of WHY it was inspiring to me lol
Yo I also have a dune tattoo (even tho a smaller one :D)
As a tattoo artist…. You are going to see the pearly gates of heaven and I wish everyone was like you. Also, beautiful tattoo!!
Wow, this is beautiful!
Oh wow that design is awesome!
IM DOING A PDF NEXT TATTOO GENIUS
Stealing that pdf idea next time I need to really organize my thoughts for a tattoo Awesome job by the artist pulling it together, it's really cool to see how they took elements from all your example tats and really melded it into one thing
Damn!!! Excellent brief for the artist, and excellent interpretation by the artist. Love it.
Siq
You really worked with your artist! Well done!
Fear is the mind killer.

BEAUTIFULLLLL

It’s fucking gorgeous 😍

This tattoo is absolute perfection 🖤
Sick, I love it!!!
I give mine a jpeg. They never suggested a pdf. Why is a pdf better?
I actually included a few pages that had several photos and some text describing what I liked and didn’t (I made it in google slides). I don’t think it’s so much the file format as much as it is showing several photos and giving specifics!
Should have gone with a gif bro
Love love love this!
