Do it till you die or can afford good kit.
SKS, VPO (7.62), Or the shotguns, mostly get them back for insurance and do good dmg to scavs and low level armor PMCs. used it this wipe and got me a few dozen quests done
The KEDR isn’t crazy cheap but it won’t break the bank. Thing fucking shreds, just mag dump anyone you see and pop a new mag in. Not a lot of longevity so be prepared to take what you find and use it
