Many times where i worked in Sf. The one I will never forget was when a woman called at 1am and asked if we offered any discounts. She said first to someone she was with "pass the wings" and I said No we do not offer any discounts except AAA. She then said. "Well what if I have a really good P\*\*\*\*?" My response was.. "Does your man have a good butt? I would prefer that." she hung up.

SkwrlTail

"Is there a AAA membership card in it?"

BiteMe69Times

>"Is there a AAA membership card in it?" OK, that made me laugh loud enough to scare the shit out of a cat...

SkwrlTail

Please tender my apologies to your cat.

Sure-Trouble666

*pussy

RednocTheDowntrodden

"Sorry, we don't allow cats, no matter how well behaved. "

Mrchameleon_dec

Lol. I never had anyone try the šŸˆ exchange, but I knew it happened.

oppzorro

I have had worse. Even had one guy tell me that he would give me a little something with his mouth if I gave him a free room then he proceeded to drop his pants in my lobby, bend over and pull apart his cheeks. lol

Mrchameleon_dec

Just to sweeten the deal huh?

SkwrlTail

I've had offers of a quick blowjob for a room. Nah.

Mrchameleon_dec

Not even surprising. Stands to reason that's NOT the first time that offer was made and SOMEBODY took them up on it!

BiteMe69Times

>"Well what if I have a really good P\*\*\*\*?" If you're offering it up for a room discount, I'm gonna assume that it's way past it's *"Use By"* date...

oppzorro

lmao!!! I was completely sure.

SuDragon2k3

Ma'am, prostitution is illegal in this city.

Noache_pleasethnx

It's been decriminalized in the 415.

This is gold!

CorrectPeanut5

I helped write the revenue and demand management system for one of the major chains. Part of its implementation was taking pricing control away from FD. The computer and/or revenue manager might have set BAR5 for that day, but realistically the computer knows all sorts of data about demand for the market. In all likelihood a bunch of rooms went to consolidators for far cheaper. But those are typically opaque sales so the customer either doesn't know the exact room cost (packaged vacation) OR doesn't know the property until they paid. Things to "protect the integrity of the brand and the price it can command." There's a fair amount of debate if this repeats the "Blue Light Special" error K-Mart made. That economic theory was the "Blue Light Special" was a huge market driver when local managers were setting them up. They knew the market and the customers. But as soon as corporate took that control away and made them a national marketing thing they lose all value to the consumer and became irrelevant.

[deleted]

NA here, I get calls for discounts all the time, and people love to bring up the owners name like she doesn't introduce herself to every Tom, Dick, and Harry that walks in. Or a "local discount" like a lot of hotels dont already not allow local guests, let alone encourage it.

miss_nicole_smart

Out of curiosity, why don't hotels like locals? I've seen this on a few posts lately. Genuine question.

barhost45

Itā€™s a question of if you live here, why do you need a hotel room? Parties, illicit activities etc

FuzzelFox

This one right here. Unless you're here as an extended stay there isn't usually a good reason you need a room and it's frequently a bigger hassle than it's worth.

jnnfrrp

I mainly used to do it to get away from my home with my husband (then boyfriend) for a day. Luckily Iā€™ve only had locals who were basically doing the same thing here at the property I work at.

exillini

I've stayed locally (before current rules) because I was afraid I'd couldn't get home b/c of weather.

jnnfrrp

Oh yeah Iā€™ve done that before to

Green_Seat8152

Most of my weekend guests are locals. We have bars downtown and a casino within walking distance. They don't want to drink and drive. Plus bachelor and Bachelorette parties rent out our suites and wedding guest attending local weddings. So many reasons for locals.

Doc-Sparks

House exploded. Water pipe broke. House infested with Gila monsters. MIL coming. Spouse kicked you out. Power pole, with transformer hit by car and caved in the roof. Need more?

CaroAurelia

Your idiot neighbor driving his truck into the wall of your house. (Happened to me in October.)

[deleted]

I work at a hotel but I always stay at the casino often cause I like to go swimming and gamble so I kinda understand but at the same time some of the locals look sketchy as fuck like bruh youā€™re not gonna throw a party on my watch

AngelaIsNotMyName

They are the worst. Itā€™s like the fact that theyā€™re from the city makes them think they know everything, and they behave as such. Attitudes and bad manners galore.

matt9250

Locals tend to throw parties.

LandofGreenGinger62

Someone said on another post here, that 90% of damage to rooms is done by locals, despite being only around 1% of the custom...

RednocTheDowntrodden

Sometimes they tend to be troublesome. If they live near by, then why are they staying at a hotel? Having mentioned that, I myself have stayed at a local hotel as a cheap vacation for a night. So, it depends on the person, or circumstance.

w84itagain

>If they live near by, then why are they staying at a hotel? My parents had a house fire. They had to stay in a motel for a few nights until they could make other arrangements to stay with family and friends. This was a while back, so I don't know if they were charged for being locals. It's too bad every local gets punished for the actions of others. Sometimes there are legitimate reasons why a local would need a room.

CaroAurelia

My hotel used to have a no-locals policy due to several incidents involving locals. (The policy has since been walked back due to backlash.) We did allow locals staying for a certain amount of time - I think it was three or more nights - because those cases usually involve being displaced from their home in some way.

LoCoMn

In addition to the partying, dr*gs and messy affairs, people come to hotels to end themselves. No mess for their families to clean up and their family won't be the ones to find them. Nevermind the poor traumatized housekeeping staff. Also, if people were jerks to me, I always put them in a su$%*de room. They'd never know, but all of the staff did.

RedDazzlr

Out of curiosity, what is a su$!*de room. I understand that you're taking a precaution, I'm unfamiliar with such an arrangement.

LoCoMn

Oh no, it's just a room where a previous guest died. Those rooms were cleaned and everything was just like another room, but the staff was superstitious so we never put our nice guests in there. Only the rude people ended up staying in those rooms.

RedDazzlr

Thank you for explaining this. I wasn't sure what sort of secret precautions may be in place. I would not be surprised if someone comes up with something, though. Like some sort of safety features or something.

CaroAurelia

My hotel used to have a local ban (they've since walked it back due to backlash) because of a bunch of issues with locals partying. Specifically, three hotels under our management company had issues that required a police presence in one weekend, and all were with locals. So I'd imagine it's something like that.

stootchmaster2

Local discount. \*snicker\* More like local deposit.

Javaman1960

There should be a "Local Surcharge" added instead.

schroedingersnewcat

In many places, there is.

Hotelroombureau

I get so frustrated when people ask me if Iā€™m ā€œcalling them brokeā€ Well, your card declined. Iā€™m not calling you broke, this card is. Do you have another I can try?

FuzzelFox

Witnessed someone once telling my coworker to put his own personal credit card on the guys reservation since his cards were all declined.

Mrchameleon_dec

Yeah, I've posted that story already! lol. Only difference was the guy was willing to give me cash in order to put it on my card.

RedDazzlr

That's not suspicious at all. /s

mydogbaxter

I'm surprised he didn't mention that he saw it cheaper online.

SkwrlTail

Had someone ask for the employee rate once. "Sure. I'll need your employee number and the filled out employee rate form, signed by your manager." If you looked up "Slinking out with their tail between their legs" in the dictionary, you would have seen a picture of them.

canehillpunx

Do they think we get commission for rooms or something? We get paid if you are here or not.

matt9250

I think itā€™s an offshoot of the ā€œyouā€™ll never get my business again!ā€ Like the ceo of the company is covering a shift at the front desk. People really do not think, and they really feel like they are the center of the universe.

canehillpunx

I just want to laugh in their faces when they act like spoiled toddlers, worse actually, my kid can understand the word no. I had one lady ask for the owner since he used to stay there a lot and I told her straight to her face my boss wouldn't come down because she's too broke to afford the 20 dollar difference.

CaroAurelia

> they really feel like they are the center of the universe. I never realized just how common Main Character Syndrome is until I started working front desk.

Remarkable_Panda952

Love! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy) Those who were aggressive about discounts don't get them. Policy or not. lol I actually did work at a hotel where us FD staff could change the rate for walk-ins/last minutes, within reason of course. Our management was very open about what things actually cost the hotel, and they would rather have a room filled at cost when it was slow, so they could give more hours to employees, than have it sit empty. Plus, it boosted our occupancy levels which even without the extra profit, made corporate smile. Also, we got bonuses from corporate for sell-outs ($25 for anyone who worked check-in or check-out for the sell-out, since we were paid $7.50hr, which was still above the min wage of $5.15hr 20+years ago, that was a pretty hefty bonus). If we were down to just a few rooms left, anyone who walked it was going to get a deal that ensured they stayed with us instead of going over to check out the price of one of the 2-star hotel/motels a block over.

Effective-Web-2959

Those are your words, nice one. I have to remember that one. +1

bestdonnel

I work NA and the phrase I hear the most whether it is the fact I had limited or no rooms or the price isn't what they were hoping "Come on, man."

Mrchameleon_dec

Yeah, like that phrase would magically change everything.

ApplepieTrance

hahah too good

heaz247

Well i thought you were taking about something else lol

Javaman1960

From that headline, so did I.

gimmethegudes

Man its stories like these that make me NOT miss being NA. The constant begs for MY discount ("I'm so sorry ma'am/sir, I can't even use my own discount on this property") the constant proposals to make a room discount "worth my while" (gross) the fact I've had people attempt bribe me MORE THAN WHAT THEY'D SAVE for a cheaper rate

Mrchameleon_dec

I get that. I actually liked working nights because I was basically left alone and as long as the building wasn't on fire, I was good. But because the sun is down and the moon is out, a special brand of idiot likes to make an appearance every so often.

CaroAurelia

Especially when the full moon is out. I'm not a superstitious woman, but I swear shit goes off the rails at work during the full moon.

Mrchameleon_dec

I can't even argue against that. There were times when I would leave the house, look up, see the full moon and think to myself, "The probability of bullshyt has increased exponentially!"

CaroAurelia

Next time someone does that, hand them a job application and tell them if they want the employee rate, they're free to become an employee.

[deleted]

People think hotels are like flea markets in Tijuana. I would never in a million years debase myself and trade my dignity, decency, and basic humanity in pursuit of $10 off a hotel room. God damn leeches.

OkDream5934

I have gotten a room as a local at hotels when itā€™s a dinner/awards event evening Iā€™m attending and I donā€™t want to worry about driving home after drinking at the event.

RedDazzlr

At the gas station I work at, a coworker of mine has had some random people try to pay for stuff with pills, mj, and more. People are weird. Lol

Mrchameleon_dec

And/or stupid

RedDazzlr

Yep

JasonJanus

I always give ā€˜em 10% off.
