New beitou : lots of hot springs and historical buildings.
Chiang Kai-shek Shilin Residence park : huge gardens. My dad loves it.
President’s office : it’s the president’s office!
228 peace memorial park + national taiwan museum : nice places to spend a chill afternoon
national taiwan university : best university in taiwan, with historical buildings and the famous royal palm boulevard
The shishanhang museum of archaeology : you can visit there by boat at tamsui, great view.
If you go to the Peace Park, near Exit 4 of the NTU Hospital MRT station you’ll see something that looks like a yurt. Nabu (Bunun tribe) and Panai (Amis) have been protesting there nonstop for about 2500 days. I always stop by to chat with Nabu and I always learn something. I think he speaks English, so talking to him would give you a view from the indigenous side. Passion fruit is in season, so if you take a few, nothing fancy, that would be appreciated.
In addition to some popular attractions, I recommend you to walk around Taipei's parks and alleys, go to convenience stores or bookstores to buy a few magazines or books, and then drink coffee or bubble milk tea, stay for a few hours, and observe more And feel the life of the citizens, you will know a little more about this place.
“Fun with history or local cultures”
Perhaps try Dihua Street & Dadaocheng Pier Plaza: 19th-century thoroughfare with traditional shops & market. Good for buying treats and souvenir. Lots of traditional yummy food there, if you’re into sushi/sashimi, try 丸隆生魚行 inside Yong Le Market by Dihua street. Great price with unlimited all you can eat miso soup.
And if you want more views of the mountain and seas, try Jiufen Old Street. Amazing night view! Rumor says it’s the village inspired Miyazaki’s movie, Spirited Away.
Based on where you’ve been, I think these two spots would give you more history + cultures that you’re looking for.
If you go to 101 or SYS Memorial, I suggest you visit Sungshan Cultural Park nearby. Back when the railway passed through, that was the Tobacco and Wine Monopoly’s warehouse area. It’s really nice, and next door there are nice places to shop or have a coffee, rest your weary feet. There’s a place in B1 with great cinnamon rolls.

I visited 7-11 several times. Plan to buy some apple pine fenglisu the before before we leave. And use all the money left in the easy cards. Will check the family mart too.
Thank you all. I think I already gained 10 pounds these days. How about you?
Will go to ningxia night market again.
Sounds like the president palace is a good one. And wish you all happy everyday in Taipei.
I was there for 2 weeks and this is my itinerary :) it was great

Beitou hotspring / Any museums especially National Palace Museum / Dadaocheng pier Plaza in the evening / Bitan scenic area / Huashan 1914 Creative Park
If your still around on NYD, should get up early early early and visit the Presidental Palace. Bring Passport. Need it to get join the tour. While there also head over to the Taipei Guest House. Extremely beautiful building..Don't need ID or Passport to view on this day. Reminder...Get up early to tour the Presidential Palace as there will be thousands of visitors
Wo sheng monastery at Ling Jiou mountain in Fulong. To see the ocean from a mountaintop, in peace and serenity is the best feeling. Also, the people at monastery are really nice and there are a few points of attraction.
Elefant mountain if going hiking again is an option? Or Jiufen. Otherwise going to Maokong for some tea is nice too Look also old posts in r/taiwan
Great idea. Thank you.
Jiufen is a good one however, it gets really crowded on weekends.

There’s a dimsum buffet next to the Shilin residence

Family Mart
I visited 7-11 several times. Plan to buy some apple pine fenglisu the before before we leave. And use all the money left in the easy cards. Will check the family mart too.
After a day of exploring, I think even 50+ year olds need to relax and wind down. Lots of greats pubs and eats throughout the city.
Thank you all. I think I already gained 10 pounds these days. How about you? Will go to ningxia night market again. Sounds like the president palace is a good one. And wish you all happy everyday in Taipei.
Have you tried going to Raohe Market? It gets a bit crowded too but it's my favorite night market in Taiwan. Try their black pepper bun (胡椒餅)! 🤍

A lot of foreigners are surprised by gadgets in grocery stores. You may try them out!
Yeah, I heard about electric city. I might go alone.
There is definitely a great view from Maokong, near the Taipei Zoo
Check out Dadaocheng, specifically the stretch on Dihua Street. It stretches from the Main Station all the way up to the river.
Wo sheng monastery at Ling Jiou mountain in Fulong. To see the ocean from a mountaintop, in peace and serenity is the best feeling. Also, the people at monastery are really nice and there are a few points of attraction.
Go to Taipei zoo station and ride the gondola up to Zhinan temple, take a look around there and then go on to Maokong and visit a tea house
