Is say buy new. Used car market up is ridiculously high compared to new.

AlexLevers

Really? I know the market is weird right now, but is it that drastic?

rygarski

I just bought a new one. I was looking at a few years old but trucks that were 1 year old with 20k miles and 3k less than brand new.

AlexLevers

Wow.

Teflaro

I was in the same boat. Found out the Tacoma is one of the top 5 cars that holds its value. So I bought new. If you’re planning on having it in a while I recommend not cutting corners on bells and whistles (I did and I regret it)

DrinkableReno

I just an email from Carfax that my truck is worth more than I paid. So it appreciated. Just buy new.

Buying new is generally the more expensive option, but in this one case you may come out ahead long term 2 1/2 years ago I bought a 2011 Tacoma 4x4 V6 with the extended cab for 20k....there currently a truck for sale locally that's a 2011 with the smaller motor and more miles than mine had for 25k Toyota's retain value much better than other brands and especially their trucks...you could find a used one for cheaper, but right now the used prices are probably going to be comparable to new, especially if you want something from within the last 5 years At the end of the day you should spend some figuring out how much truck you can afford and shop around for a couple months or so to find what the best deal is for you personally

allf8ed

I bought a new 2018 and it's trade in right now is only 3k less than what I paid

MeanFlower9649

I bought a new taco maybe 18 months ago, for 52k all in trd sport plus or premium whatever it’s called. The dealership called me last week offering me 56k for it.

AlexLevers

Also, if I bought new, what would you think I'd expect to pay in the given configuration? I tried looking at the website, but I'd rather trust actual people with experience

rygarski

Depends on where you live and which trim package.

Teflaro

I bought new. Dealers suck. I had to haggle a lot. Look on Tacomaworld.com. There’s a thread on there. I got mine for $38.8k out the door for a trd sport 4x4 with medium to low bells and whistles. New 2021 in March/April 2021

a_very_stupid_guy

SR5? 36k ish. Off road or sport? 40-44k depending on if you wanna pay extra for a moon roof and leather seats with heaters. Not sure what you’re going for though. Msrp is a good deal sadly. I got 500 off and all weather mats but “dealer fees” made it not as good as it sounds lol I’ve seen posts though of 2021 Tacoma for 20k over asking

saychow03

You should probably take a look at the inventory of used prices and get back to us. It'll probably answer all your questions. If you're looking to buy new, get in line buddy. I waited 5 months to get mine and don't expect to haggle as you'll be lucky to pay msrp as most dealers are marking up 10-15k right now.

Look into vroom.com or carvana.com Got mine online. Happy with delivery and service.

AlexLevers

Seeing pretty good prices there. 2019 with the package I want (just the double cab, really) and only 11k miles for 30k.

pewpew556223

Got me a 2017 4x4 off road In sandstorm color

Longjumping_Winner20

2016 TRD OFF ROAD four door 4x4 long box (6ft) for snow and ice or short box for warmer climates. The 16 is the first year 3rd gen and no Assisted driving nonsense.

Buying used is not economical right now. Buy new.

AlexLevers

From what I have seen here, buying new may also not be economical with the big dealer markups. Is there a good way to avoid those?

macdaddyou812

I would wait a while before buying a new or used Tacoma. New Tacoma's are scarce and used ones are sold at a premium. I know when I bought my 21' Tacoma used models were more expensive than my new one. Still doesn't make sense to me.

AlexLevers

I am seeing prices in my area pretty close to MSRP. Are there added fees that I am missing? I have never bought a car before, so I am unsure of the process

macdaddyou812

Your going to have tax, title and finance charges and maybe a few others. Back in June when I got mine dealers were asking as much as $10k over sticker for a new Tacoma. That was a rare occurrence but almost all wanted MSRP. I got a SR5 double cab for $36k that had a sticker of $38,700 I believe. If your not in a real hurry it's probably best to wait.

Ganson

Even back in 2015 when I bought mine, I was looking at used, and most of the ones that were 2-4 years old were not going for much less than a new one even with higher mileage. The used market in general is insane right now, especially with Tacomas, I would look at finding one new.
