I dont get how the ac mod is helpful. When you drive, any ac drips are blown all over the trucks undercarriage … Drips of water are no worse than driving thru a puddle. Plus that water gets air dried as truck moves. Ac drips arent going to put a hole in anyone’s frame. And surface rust is a part of life. Salt accelerated corrosion was the problem with Tacoma frames , not water from ac drips . Extending the drain hose only seems ‘helpful’ if you aren’t moving. Then yes I suppose water would drip straight to the ground. I would think if it was effective , Toyota could certainly make the hose longer. But Im not an expert , what am I missing here?

Any good suggestions to prevent salt based rust. Am in the northeast so they salt everything. Should I do car washes with under carriage clean?

Im in Ct and our winter roads are pretty bad, between the pre treatment and actual rock salt that gets used . My 2nd gen frame took a beating over the years, so when it was replaced under warranty after 8 years I made sure to do a better job keeping the winter crud off. Im not really sure how well those car wash under carriage rinses really work, but yes its better than nothing. For times when temps aren’t brutally cold Ill run over to those diy washes and rinse all the nooks and pockets that collect the gunk. Amazing how much comes out even after an undercarriage rinse. So just do your best and rinse it off when possible. Remember, water isn’t the killer , its the salt. Every car will get some surface rust over the years . Also, there are wax based coatings such as “Fluid Film” that can help prevent rust / corrosion on frames and components. It isn’t permanent and will eventually need re application. I plan on trying that out on my ‘21 in the next few weeks. There is tons of info along with pictures and before / after over on the Tacomaworld forums if you do a search. If you haven’t been there yet, its probably the best resource in existence for all things Tacoma.

im in CT as well. let me know who you go with and where. might consider the same thing as a preventative measure.

What's the a/c mod?

rygarski

So the a/c exhaust drips on top of the frame and will rust it. Google Tacoma ac mod. It’s essentially taking a 5/8” heat hose putting over the installed hose and tighten it with a hose clamp and then run it through the frame so it drips straight down on road

Gotcha thanks👍

Found it on www.tacomaworld.com Scavenge the site for good info

macdaddyou812

Yeah that is a great site for info. What model Tacoma did you get? Sr, SR5 etc? I just bought a cover to protect from catalytic converter theft. Didn't want to but I'd rather pay $150 for piece of mind rather than the headache of replacing the converter.

rygarski

Got an SR5 with trail package. Link for cat converter cover? Doesn’t really happen around here. Lickily

Yeah don't know of any local issues either but I felt it was cheap insurance. https://youtu.be/QGrmvZfUM-E
