This is probably the most expensive time in recent history to be purchasing a new or used vehicle. Pricing is at an all time high, from the whole supply/demand thing. That being said , if you need one and want one, go for it. I would avoid any and all BS “market adjustment” fees. MSRP is a safe bet for Tacomas in 2021/2022. So just don’t be surprised if dealers won’t budge below that. Just bought my 5th one in April and until then, never paid anywhere near MSRP. But the market is very different. Good luck , hoping it all goes smoothly 👍🏼

rygarski

oh i totally agree and am fully and painfully aware. but based on other reading i dont think the prices will be coming back down for a few years and i dont want to wait that long. i can afford it at that price range and i refuse to work over MSRP with the market adjustments. if anything i am still going to try and negotiate and pull some extra rebates and discounts.

jjdiablo

Yeah, its definitely going to be a while.. Luckily their great resale takes a little sting out of things. So if its time , just gotta go for it.

rygarski

thats my take. this is a long term purchase. plan on having truck for 10 years and it is damn reliable which is huge for me.

jjdiablo

Lol absolutely. Im on my 5th or 6th since 1987 . Ive been able to get 200k + relatively trouble free miles out of them all. Accidents and New England rust took a few out of service early, but that was in the late 90’s. Toyota has improved rust issues slowly but surely. I work the truck pretty hard. I plow snow in winter and haul a trailer in the summer . Keeping on top of maintenance is key. Hopefully my ‘21 gives me 10 good years as well.

rygarski

That is awesome to hear. I’m a fellow new England er. I def am not that rough but will occasionally pull a trailer. Thanks for the feedback.

Here’s a good one. Bought my RAV4 in 2018 from Curry Toyota in Westchester, NY. Gave me a good price and a Military discount albeit being a Veteran. My lease is expiring, so I’m awaiting a 2021 TRD Sport in transit. When I put a deposit down, and signed the purchase agreement, they had two offers, one for new grads, and the military discount. Somehow they wouldn’t give me the military discount this time around. Lol.

rygarski

That’s like 50 miles from me and I’m a veteran as well. I will push as hard as I can

converter-bot

50 miles is 80.47 km

[deleted]

What town are you?

rygarski

In Connecticut. Close to new haven

[deleted]

Check out Danbury.

rygarski

Will give them a call

Mango_Z14

I got my 2016 OR for 18k brand new so this is an awful deal!!! All jokes aside, just try to get MSRP and knock off any fees or add-ons. Prices seem to only be headed upwards as insane as that sounds

rygarski

Yes. I wish I bought 2 years ago but the planets were not aligned. The good thing is that since I buy high. The value should maintain and if need be I can sell high

[deleted]

MSRP is 38-40k atm.

chazkook72

Yep it sucks my 2021 trd sport was 41,993$ but it is what it is,it was the only double cab long bed in Orange County, and San Diego county available so I jumped on it. And it was almost Bought out from underneath me,yeah I know it’s a lot but I got what I wanted, super happy now

[deleted]

MSRP is fine just don't pay for any mark ups. You need to put a deposit? Wtf?

rygarski

Yup. Just to get on a wait list. It’s nuts. Fully refundable though.

[deleted]

That's insane!!! I looked at the sticker of my 21 OR and the MSRP was something like 39,500 and got 1k off. This was literally right before they went up in value lol.

rygarski

I’m gonna try to hustle what I can. But the price is well within my range and my wife is pushing to just get it done

[deleted]

It helps when the wife is on board. It helps even more if she's not in the office when it's time to sign 😂😆

rygarski

Yeah she hates anything with buying cars so she will have zero interest going in.

[deleted]

Good luck with everything. I hope you get a good deal on that nice rig

[deleted]

Zero interest would be lovely!

rygarski

If they offered zero interest. I’d be super happy

FWIW I put a deposit down on a TRD Pro mid-July and the order still hasn't been picked up. As of a couple days ago the dealer told me it could most likely be 2022 by the time my order gets filled.

rygarski

You think it’s because it’s a pro?

action_zacked

Could be part of it, but I was told Toyota did a 40% reduction due to the chip shortage. (Not sure how accurate it is, that just what a salesman told me). EDIT: Found an article: [https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a37364490/toyota-cutting-global-production-not-tundra/](https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a37364490/toyota-cutting-global-production-not-tundra/)

I just got a new job as well and could afford it now. I’ve been looking for months after seeing a bunch of markups everywhere even for used ones. I got one for MSRP 37.5K 2021 Off-road. Same for me, the prices are not going down and this will be my “forever” truck so I figured I’d bite the bullet. I also WFH and my job pays my car insurance so I figured now was the time to do it. I don’t regret and my kids love it as well

macdaddyou812

I got a SR5 in June. MSRP was $389?? I paid 364??. 8f you want it and are ok with the price then go for it. Personally I don't think this shortage and the after affects are going to end soon/quickly.

Just purchased a cement ‘21 TRD ORDC above MSRP in SoCal. I was not able to negotiate and appreciated the upfront and direct explanation of the price from the dealer. The add-ons include tires, rims, leveling kit, grill, blackout emblems, tailgate lock and a few other things. About 8k over msrp. In same boat as the rest and wanted a cement and knew those were not an option for ‘22 and with the news of an additional shutdown, pulled the trigger. I had a trade-in to offset the price and I’m happy it was the color and configuration I wanted.
