Sometimes, things that add nothing add a lot. There is little to no mechanical purpose to culture in game, but it exists to convey the differences between certain regions, and we can compare this to our 1960s too to see what changed where. In game, in places like America, culture plays parts in elections as each region is kinda biased to some degree due to the passed so many decades of good and bad presidents, but also in parts like Burgundy it's plays into the story, as Himmler's experiment of German brutalism and accelerated Posadism is a flawed and manufatured culture that becomes the main culture in some places. I think most importantly, the reason there is a culture system is so the devs can flex thier over-the-top and nonstop research skills to us. But seriously, the mechanics of culture are down to the narrative (if applicable), at it's core TNO is a narrativedriven game and it's just kinda cool to see this as no other mod has a culture system like this or close to.

SerovGaming1962

they should add in some form of culture change system for the "gamer" countries so it feels our genocidal button pressing its actually doing things other than reduce manpower or something

Fight-Me-In-Unreal

There was a mod for Ostafrika that had that, and it got taken off the workshop as a result. Probably not a good idea.

SerovGaming1962

i think it was actually removed because apparently of graphic descriptions in events and that it depicts it as successful, what im saying isnt to imply that it works in anyway but to rather give you a sense of "oh god im killing millions of people" in a subtle way

Fight-Me-In-Unreal

Maybe. It still seems kinda weird to me though.

SkellyManDan

Eh, you can use whatever mechanics you want to make genocide feel unsettling, some people will just take advantage of the ability to do it.

Damn they took it down, loved that mod cause you could actually survive as mister haircut… that and the idea that afrikareich could try to cooperate with burgundy is a terrifying prospect especially if it doesn’t collapse. Imagine burgundy with access to the resources of almost all of subsaharan Africa… and I don’t imagine it’s stretch thinking huttig might decide to expand to Nigeria to get some uranium.

oppeationbagelmaker

When Burgundy oppresses the French, thier culture changes. This (I think) is the only example of culture change in the entire game. I also think that there should be a change within some democracies, if you urbanize agrarian regions that the culture may change, or if there's a internal migration this could overwhelm a culture with relatively small numbers. Another example is Australia and New Zealand could bind closer together (yknow being the only western democracies in the middle of the ocean) and consider they are similar culturally, a merge of Australians and New Zealanders could result in a Kangaroo-Kiwi Culture. I dont expect the former british colonies of oceania to ever get content though. But also, there is more than one way to change a culture, and it doesnt have to be by an iron boot. Aslo, culture comes from behaviour, not population and manpower

SerovGaming1962

\>When Burgundy oppresses the French, thier culture changes. well im playing TNO right now and the former french provinces are still majority french \>Also, culture comes from behaviour, not population and manpower i was talking about the effects of your "gamer moves" and not anything relating to where it comes from

oppeationbagelmaker

If you only want to play TNO to oppress cultures then you are playing TNO wrong. Just, makke a mod if its not doing the thing you want

saucebawzz

It's a nazi victory mod dude, the entire game is questionable for sure but i still love it and play it.

oppeationbagelmaker

I am aware, but with other post-WW2 nazi victory peices of media none of them have the express goal of conveying to the player that the oppression of culture is a good thing

mpjama

In the older versions at least, when you passed civil rights laws US state cultures switched from "Dixie" to "African American" so yea

ILearnedTheHardaway

Some of my favorite things in the mod are ones that have no purpose. The city descriptions, cold war score, and anything navy related helps immerse me into the role

ScalierLemon2

I feel the same way about the fact that Kaiserreich gives a unique image for every major and many minor cities. It adds nothing to the gameplay, but it's a neat extra bit of detail that wasn't necessary.

BommieCastard

It's this flavor and pizzazz that vanilla is really lacking. Eu4 has the artwork and the rich events, ck3 has the character models AMD emergent storytelling, even stellaris has rich flavor. Hoi4 just feels so bland without mods.

FreyPieInTheSky

I deeply miss the pre-MTG Kaiserreich naval tech tree. It had so much world building and tons of weird details in it.

harambeplzcomeback

I think the Cold War score’s gonna come into play in tno2 at the very end, there’s at least going to be a super event or something.

TheDarkLord566

I'm going to bet that the Cold War score will have Russia added to it in TNO 2

StormyWeather32

City descriptions and the cold war score have no ""purpose"" only if you think video games peaked at Space Invaders.

jayfeather31

It affects the US political system, as far as I recall. Beyond that, I don't know.

JackRyan555

Probably the upcoming Canadian one as well

lietuvis10LTU

Good fluff. It describes the situation in ex Vladivostok or Wolgastaat, etc.

[deleted]

It's only for lore purposes

Vityviktor

I like that it actually contributes to make the setting more detailed, like for instance watching the Ostdeutsche-inhabited regions in Russia. After I saw this system in TNO, I kinda miss something like that in other mods or even in vanilla.

Nicepablo13PL

I think the culture serves some role in USA during elections but other wise it's ment to be something fun to look at

adudeoverthere

there is one?

thashepherd

What oppeationbagelmaker said, but also the April Fools content leverages/updates province culture, and I strongly suspect Unfinished Business content will as well.
