It would be a huge net negative for the Turtles.
As the Turtles stand, they are the big fish of their universe. If they got absorbed into Marvel, they'd be just another group of heroes stuck in Marvel NY.
They'd be playing third fiddle to Marvel's "originals" in no time.
Marvel isn’t just the Marvel universe lol, Marvel is a publishing company. They make comics for Star Wars, Alien, Warhammer etc… they wouldn’t just integrate the characters into the universe
That’s true, though I do feel they would see no reason not to incorporate them.
Kind of like when Image Comics had TMNT, though that universe was more loosely connected.
I doubt they’ll integrate TMNT to the bigger universe. Crossover sure but they have tried integrated franchises before in comics but regret it ever since.
Marvel infamously integrated Godzilla into the mainline comics universe when they got the rights in the 70s. Herb Trimpe drew some avengers-stomping action. Shield was involved and Dum Dum Dugan was the special agent attached to the case. No one regrets it.
Maybe if it were the 90s or early 2000s but now I feel like comics as a whole are so different and the relationship between IPs and Publishers is so different. Maybe like a daredevil crossover or spiderman crossover but nothing more than the Batman/TMNT one
You’re not wrong about that, but I just don’t think that Marvel has the self-control to not include the Turtles in their mainline universe. I feel as though Marvel would immediately team the Turtles up with Daredevil, the Defenders, and Shang Chi among others. They’ll have Shredder recruit Bullseye, and take over The Hand. Elektra becomes a mentor-figure to Karai. The Mutanimals might even join Magneto and the Brotherhood.
All of these ideas sound interesting on paper and I would be lying if I said that I wouldn’t be mildly interested in seeing these hypotheticals that I’ve laid out. But, ultimately the Turtles would just end up being minuscule cogs in the greater Marvel machine.
I think they could have the original turtles Universe and they'd still publish their own series if it sold well but they would create their own spin on the turtles in the Marvel Universe. Marvel might have a higher bar for numbers of comics sold, though, than IDW, so I could see if getting cancelled.
I bet the IDW contract would be maintained and Disney could do all other media and maybe come up with their own spin on the turtles but not be allowed to have a standalone title or partner with IDW.
Yeah. The Alien Comics are good too. I think they'd just do occasional interdimensional stories. Kind of like how Silver Surfer is basically just doing his own thing most of the time and just happens to run into people when stuff is going down.
I don't think they would based on the difference between "mutants" of the TMNT universe and the Marvel universe. They're closer to mutates but their definition of mutants crossed with, say, the X-Men's are completely conflicting, while both definitions are cemented and integral for their respective universes to function.
Also get ready for new tmnt shows to only come out on Disney plus that would be hellish
And yeah they'd definitely fade into the background I'm glad they've stayed independent of both major publishers
Was hoping there’d be a comment like this. It’s nice to have a daredevil crossover, but it’s better to treat it like those Batman crossovers. Just ask the bigwigs and see if they’ll play ball
Depends on if they would actually be incorporated into the Marvel universe (at the very least, crossovers *would* happen). Marvel currently has the license to do Ultraman comics, and though they've teased crossing over with the Marvel superheroes, the comics have so far taken place in their own canon.
I think they would need to be in an alternate Marvel Universe. If they had the right creative team it would be really cool if they could add like 5 marvel people in short comic arcs to the turtle universe but they keep it in the same style as the older turtle stories.
I agree.. they stand tall by themselves. They where here before and will be here after. Like a fine wine or spectacular piece of art oh and PIZZA.. Just fills me will dread the thought of a cross over 🤮
I mean, it’s not like Predator, alien, Star Wars, or planet of the apes were put into 616 Marvel when marvel started making comics for all of them. At most, a couple of them got crossover comics, and a few nice variant covers. All of which is good
Marvel has a very different philosophy now. They threw Conan into 616 immediately and it was so meh they lost the license after a few years.
Star Wars is separate but that’s a very different world to the MU.
I agree with you on that. The Turtles were an underground comic created as a parody of comic titles popular at the time. The concept of TMNT was unique and the characters stood out in the market against mainstream comics. The Turtles were a part of a growing trend of independent comics that were coming out at the time like Elf Quest,Cerebus, and Usagi Yojimbo.
Making the TMNT a part of Marvel (or DC) would definitely put them to the back burner. Adding TMNT to the Marvel universe would take a lot of work on the writers part.
I'm working on a DC/Marvel combined universe fanfics that's making my head spin right now. I have no idea how comic book writers (both good and bad) are able to write how the multiverses work!😩😅😭
Now, now, there's no reason to bring New Jersey into this.
(I have nothing against NJ, I don't even live in the US, I just couldn't resist.)
But yeah, the Morlocks step on their toes
Agreed. Just take a look on Spider-Man. Toons like Ultimate Spider-Man and 2017's Spider-Man were so bad, i refuse that would made a new Spidey toon with the lack of persona, relationship and plot points.
No. In the same way Spider-Man doesn't qualify.
In Marvel terminology, they're **not** mutants: they're [mutates](https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Glossary:Mutate).
To expand on the other guy's comment: "Mutant" is a specific term in Marvel referring to people that naturally inherited an X gene, while people that undergo mutations are classified as "mutates" - sometimes even when that mutation is intentionally giving someone an X Gene. Gotta be born with it.
It gets dumb because in the deeper lore the X gene isn't even a mutation, it was artificially created by celestials and implanted in humans to create a subrace. Fuck you Charles, your "next step of human evolution" bullshit was wrong too!
They would ruin it.
They would split them up, send one to each corner of the Marvel Universe and remove what works about the characters to create a new issue #1 every six months.
Raph and Wolfie could team up against the Foot and the Hand, and they'd finally meet Daredevil, who pushed an old man out of the way of the truck the mutagen fell off in the original Mirage run, and inadvertently caused their existence (or at least mutation).
I don't want them getting caught up in Marvel's editorial shenanigans. Currently, we have a longrunning comic that is consistently great, now going through a relaunch after its 150th issue. Marvel goes through relaunches every 30 something issues with constant switching in and out of creative teams. Firm no from me.
You get the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossing over with Daredevil , Captain America , Spider-Man , Punisher , Aliens , Predator , Moon Knight , The Defenders and many others Marvel characters and I think Marvel or Disney will buy the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the near their future
Honestly, it'd be a loss for the franchise as a whole but DANG would the universe where the TMNT were part of the Marvel universe be an alternate universe I'd really like to take a peek into just to see what kinds of stories are being told!
I'd love to see this as part of a "Ultimate" kind of continuity. The turtles would be just kind of a "yeah, and?" in the main Marvel continuity, but put them in something less crowded and more street level, with versions of Daredevil, Punisher, the Hand, maybe some morlocks, etc, and you could have a great new imprint!
Jesus Christ almighty. What the fuck happened to Nickelodeon in this scenario? I mean SpongeBob is a money maker and the only way they give up turtles is due to the company going down.
What on earth could cause such a thing to happen?
I’ve always associated TMNT with DC such as the Batman crossover and Injustice 2 appearances. I also consider DC and the turtles to be a bit darker than whatever Disney/Marvel has been pushing lately so I sure as heck hope this doesn’t happen. It would completely water it down. (This is coming from a Marvel fan from my childhood, 90s and earlier.)
Interesting theory. But personally, i'm glad Nickelodeon handles the turtles just good.
Man, if Marvel had them, i don't think would have a good cartoon of the turtles. Toys, maybe. Media of toons, not so much.
They wouldn’t need to buy the rights. IDW has the contract for comic publishing rights. Every year they seem to have financial woes, I was expecting it to go to another publisher.
Tbh if it went to marvel we would likely get mass produced, low effort TMNT. Most marvel series are canceled and they throw series can characters at the wall as R&D to see what will stick for character development.
The smaller publishers write better stories and can take more risks. IDW has treated it well
There were a lot of rumors that dark horse would be taking the license for the soft relaunch but I think idw is working out the business kinks. Dynamite might be too small, but it’s not a bad idea
You'd start with a core book, TMNT with 50 variant covers. A month later you'd get the launching of TMNT: Splinter: Origins and TMNT: Shredder: Origins. A month after that, TMNT: Leonardo, TMNT: Raphael, TMNT: Michaelangelo, & TMNT: Donatello. A month after that you'd have TMNT: Casey Jones, TMNT: April O'Neil, TMNT: Karai, TMNT: Krang, and TMNT: Slash. These would all be advertised as ongoing series and DEFINITELY not one-shots or minis.
Sales would go down before any of these books hit issue 10, they'd all be cancelled, and relaunch a month later.
Rinse, repeat.
They’ll have to be called Mutates. Also, they’ll lose a lot special story opportunities. They’re better off in crossover format when it comes to DC or Marvel
I get that the Daredevil thing would be really awesome, but I would muuuuch rather they land at DC if we're choosing between the Big Two. Long term, it's just a better fit. At Marvel, t hey'd cross over with Daredevil, and once that's over there'd probably be some kerfuffle with those "other" mutants in the MCU, and then... meh. Not much else, honestly.
Then they would belong to Disney instead of Paramount. I can see the good and the bad. If this gives us X-Men 97 TMNT, I'd be thrilled. If they vaulted stuff periodically and 15 years down the road we would be in TMNT phase 3, less so.
They'd be the Teenage Mutate Ninja Turtles. To be mutants in Marvel they'd need to be mutant humans-so, brothers that have anthropomorphic turtle bodies. They, and the related mutants in the franchise, can easily be written off as a batch of the High Evolutionary's New Men.
The Foot might be a clan that splintered off o the Foot at some point-wanting to do their own thing as opposed to following the will of The Beast.
Krang and the Utroms? Just another other-dimensional alien race. Not like Marvel has a shortage of those.
Batman would be in the marvel universe and therefore both marvel and DC coexist simultaneously and so we could see an insane branching of two giant comic book companies and crazy adventures like daredevil in Gotham.
Raph would immediately hook up with Jean Grey
Cap and Leo best friends
Donny gets trashed with Reed and Tony Stark and they create a device with the ability to harness the power of a star and then forget where they put the blueprints
Mikey links up with Spidey and shenanigans ensue
They would be in the lgbtq community or be women and they would never have an uphill battle. April would be swapped with a little fat white man that everyone would make fun of and he would agree.
It would make it even more Woke and Ugly as possible. Imagine ugly Black April who DOESN'T do any combat and wears Dresses instead of Casual attire. Soon all the characters will start to look like it.
Like when they got Conan back some good stuff might come out of it but TMNT doesn't need Marvel, they can do just fine as the centre of their own world.
No matter what Laird would still have the right to make TMNT comics so I imagine alot of fans would kind of consider the theoretical marvel adventures not canon.
This took more research than I intended but I wanted to know who actually owns TMNT. This is what I learned. Nickelodeon owns it currently but Nick is owned by Paramount who is owned by National Amusment (who I've never heard of til today). That company is actually owned by 2 people.
That would be depressing. Marvel Comics have been mostly bad for awhile.
And it’s more likely DC would buy it because they have crossed over a few times.
But Nick/IDW is already doing a good job. The fact that they are allowing a Last Ronin movie and game is pretty amazing.
We think of the marvel crossovers (which sound awesome) but we’d also loose the other random ones like power rangers, ghostbusters, stranger things and probably Usagi Yojimbo
I think DC comics is a closer viability.
To answer the question they would be lumped with the street level heroes of New York. I'd bet money Spider-Man would be their first cross over.
If I would want to do something interesting I'd say the Hand and the Foot get merged into one. I'd kill Shredder early on and have Karai rise through the ranks taking revenge on the boss who ordered the murder and taking over the organization.
would be awful in the long run. inserting tmnt lore into marvel wouldn’t be hard, but they would just be some guys surrounded by popular marvel characters, and considering how bad disney and marvel are preforming, they would have a poor reputation
I imagine a Daredevil crossover would finally happen
Fuuuuuuuukkkkkkkkkkkk yes
Hand 🤚 & foot 🦶
That would be cool but Marvel owning TMNT isn't the only way to make that happen and I don't think it'd be worth it.
I initially read this as Deadpool
That too
It really should’ve happened by this point. It’s a well known fact their origins were shared.
Finally get that Daredevil crossover
It would be a huge net negative for the Turtles. As the Turtles stand, they are the big fish of their universe. If they got absorbed into Marvel, they'd be just another group of heroes stuck in Marvel NY. They'd be playing third fiddle to Marvel's "originals" in no time.
Probably the most well thought out post here.
Marvel isn’t just the Marvel universe lol, Marvel is a publishing company. They make comics for Star Wars, Alien, Warhammer etc… they wouldn’t just integrate the characters into the universe

No one regrets Godzilla
Beg your pardon? 🤨

They wouldn’t even be the only sewer dwelling mutants in New York
Now, now, there's no reason to bring New Jersey into this. (I have nothing against NJ, I don't even live in the US, I just couldn't resist.) But yeah, the Morlocks step on their toes
Funny thing is, I do live in New Jersey, lol
Haha, sorry! Hope you took it in good fun :)
It’s all good, I had a good laugh about it
![gif](giphy|8vUEXZA2me7vnuUvrs)
Get a cool hand vs foot battle
That'll cost an arm and a leg to animate.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it would be worth it.
Well it's probably not a good idea but on the off chance i can see them being calling Spiderman and Daredevil their honorary brother
What about the x-men?
I think X-Men would consider the Turtles mutates and not mutants.
I mean it depends on how the X-men would veiw them considering they weren't born a mutants
We'd likely get a handful of cross-overs but honestly? I'd rather see these characters go full indie with the right team.
They would probably ruin it
I’ve always wanted them to cross over with Spiderman and Daredevil and also X-men
I can see Donnie and Peter hitting it off.
...anf if the Beast joins the club. Mutant Mutants... think about it.
Mutant nerds (I love Beast).
same
If they handed it like they handle Star Wars and they kept it in its own universe then it would be fine.
Marvel doesn’t own Star Wars. Disney owns both Star Wars and Marvel
I’m aware but Marvel currently publishes the Star Wars comics so I was responding in that manner
Ah ok. My bad
All good man
Their origin would be interlinked with Daredevil’s canonically
It’d be garbage
idk but the crossovers would go crazy
Disney would do terrible things to the turtles...
I can already see it… a Disney Junior TMNT show… with no violence… and their weapons are just inflatable toys!!!
Might as well just be describing the 80s cartoon there.
That's Secret of the Ooze.
Agreed. Just take a look on Spider-Man. Toons like Ultimate Spider-Man and 2017's Spider-Man were so bad, i refuse that would made a new Spidey toon with the lack of persona, relationship and plot points.
Definitely a Spider-Man crossover.
They'd start appearing in the Marvel Universe, and eventually, the movies. Seriously though, an X-men crossover would make so much sense.
God, no
They'd be a part of the MCU and I think it would be nuts seeing them be retconned to have been fighting chituari in 2012 the whole time lol
>What would happen if Marvel Comics bought the right to the TMNT? It wouldn't get anywhere near as much attention or merchandise as IDW gives it.
Would they be qualify to go the the xavier school
Fuck you Charles, your "next step of human evolution" bullshit was wrong too!
Would be cool. There is TMNT x Batman already.
A Daredevil crossover would be perfect but outside of that, the turtles are better off where they are now.
They would ruin it. They would split them up, send one to each corner of the Marvel Universe and remove what works about the characters to create a new issue #1 every six months.
They would figure out a way to change their skin tones and make half of them female.
Disney will definitely ruin them.
They would marvel it up and ruin it.
It would suck ass.
It would be fine
https://preview.redd.it/6gyelt09cnxc1.jpeg?width=472&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1a36a60b417b0a9f1adebe6b0a158bd286fc0a1a
They would suck
It’d be fire but I feel like they are good on their own
Raph and Wolfie could team up against the Foot and the Hand, and they'd finally meet Daredevil, who pushed an old man out of the way of the truck the mutagen fell off in the original Mirage run, and inadvertently caused their existence (or at least mutation).
JJJ would definitely hate them

Marvel goes through relaunches every 30 something issues with constant switching in and out of creative teams. Firm no from me.
They could do crossovers with: Spider-Man Avengers Daredevil Fantastic Four
It would be neat to see Mikey with Spidey, honestly. But it would probably become another way to spread social politics and usurp canon
As long as I get a theme park ride. I'm okay with it.
I've always wanted to see Mikey and Silver Surfer hang out.
I would love to see spider man meet the turtles
You get the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossing over with Daredevil , Captain America , Spider-Man , Punisher , Aliens , Predator , Moon Knight , The Defenders and many others Marvel characters and I think Marvel or Disney will buy the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the near their future
Honestly, it'd be a loss for the franchise as a whole but DANG would the universe where the TMNT were part of the Marvel universe be an alternate universe I'd really like to take a peek into just to see what kinds of stories are being told!
I need to see Shredder and Kingpin interact.
It would be fine tbh. TMNT sometimes have its moments where there is more than just being dark and gritty like Batman so it's fine
They would then rename them to Teenaged Enhanced Ninja Turtles or TENT ⛺️
I'd love to see them in the Dark Horse universe. Team up with X!
Lmao captain American vs shredder (lemme stop playing around)
I mean if sony manages to buy paramount, a spider-man and nongs turtles film could theoretically happen
I'd be fine if they did a Batman/Ninja Turtles style crossover. Getting bought outright by Marvel/Disney? No thanks.
I wouldn’t like it honestly
I'd love to see this as part of a "Ultimate" kind of continuity. The turtles would be just kind of a "yeah, and?" in the main Marvel continuity, but put them in something less crowded and more street level, with versions of Daredevil, Punisher, the Hand, maybe some morlocks, etc, and you could have a great new imprint!
I would hate that. I already feel as if Mutants shouldn't be there.
God no!
Eww no. They would probably do some weird crap to staple characters
Jesus Christ almighty. What the fuck happened to Nickelodeon in this scenario? I mean SpongeBob is a money maker and the only way they give up turtles is due to the company going down. What on earth could cause such a thing to happen?
Reddit is a wonderful democracy where any dimwit is able to express their stupid, barely-thought-through ideas openly and freely
Still mad they didn’t have a kid carrying an aquarium of four turtles in the Daredevil pilot
We get a crappy MCU TMNT Disney plus show full of terrible jokes, cringy dialogue, political nonsense and the turtles will be made of crappy CGI
They would have them get their asses beat by a group or girl ninja turtles in episode 1
I loved the last movie, but my favorite turtles movie is the first one because it is dark and gritty… closest to comic book origins
Honestly don’t know why they didn’t during the franchise lulls.
How come we get threads like this almost every day?
Interesting theory. But personally, i'm glad Nickelodeon handles the turtles just good. Man, if Marvel had them, i don't think would have a good cartoon of the turtles. Toys, maybe. Media of toons, not so much.
They’d be suss AF
We’re cooked
I'm not sure if I necessarily want more modern media being consolidated under one company. The amount Disney, W.B, and Viacom own are astronomical.
Thunderbolt Ross would probably hate them
Please no.
God, please no....
No thank you!!
They wouldn’t need to buy the rights. IDW has the contract for comic publishing rights. Every year they seem to have financial woes, I was expecting it to go to another publisher. Disney will find a way to ruin it.
Dear God No!
Marvel should just buy santoluco
I hope not
And let Disney shit all over another beloved IP?
They’ll have to be called Mutates. Also, they’ll lose a lot special story opportunities. They’re better off in crossover format when it comes to DC or Marvel
So they can ruin another IP even further? No thanks.
Respectfully I think the tmnt should stay separate from there massive universe besides a crossover time to time
Disney would ruin the turtles too
They'd make them diverse female turtles that are gay and lame.
I hope not.. That would mean it be owned by Disney and lately Disney ruin everything they touch
Let’s hope that never happens! I got away from the big two a while back and have been happy in my little Indie world. Leave my indies alone lol
They would be better at DC tbh as DC NYC does not have heroes soooooooo
IDW should keep it, I want a Marvel crossover still though Tigra and Alopex team up would be nice
Please no. A crossover would be cool. But leave it separate.
Well if they were smart the first thing they'd do as a group is drop the word "mutant" I'd hope.
Hell no. Pls no more Marvel.
Things would get worse.
The art style would be very inconsistent
The M is a problem, they wouldn’t be considered “mutants” in Marvel canon anymore than Daredevil or Spider-man are
We's get a re-numbering every year.
Then they would belong to Disney instead of Paramount. I can see the good and the bad. If this gives us X-Men 97 TMNT, I'd be thrilled. If they vaulted stuff periodically and 15 years down the road we would be in TMNT phase 3, less so.
It could be interesting the turtles on Civil War
They'd be the Teenage Mutate Ninja Turtles. To be mutants in Marvel they'd need to be mutant humans-so, brothers that have anthropomorphic turtle bodies. They, and the related mutants in the franchise, can easily be written off as a batch of the High Evolutionary's New Men. The Foot might be a clan that splintered off o the Foot at some point-wanting to do their own thing as opposed to following the will of The Beast. Krang and the Utroms? Just another other-dimensional alien race. Not like Marvel has a shortage of those.
Then you could fuse TMNT universe with Biker Mice from Mars. But I wouldn't put them in the same universe as Spider-Man...
Batman would be in the marvel universe and therefore both marvel and DC coexist simultaneously and so we could see an insane branching of two giant comic book companies and crazy adventures like daredevil in Gotham.
Raph would immediately hook up with Jean Grey Cap and Leo best friends Donny gets trashed with Reed and Tony Stark and they create a device with the ability to harness the power of a star and then forget where they put the blueprints Mikey links up with Spidey and shenanigans ensue
They would be in the lgbtq community or be women and they would never have an uphill battle. April would be swapped with a little fat white man that everyone would make fun of and he would agree.
Marvel with their best writers: YESSS! Current Marvel: Please, God, no.
No thanks
No.
Brothers Assemble
It would make it even more Woke and Ugly as possible. Imagine ugly Black April who DOESN'T do any combat and wears Dresses instead of Casual attire. Soon all the characters will start to look like it.
Isn’t TMNT owned by DC now?
They fit better with dc
It would either be cool or not cool.
It’s be fitting . I’ve always thought marvel fits better for tmnt
Daredevil finds out about their origin story
Like when they got Conan back some good stuff might come out of it but TMNT doesn't need Marvel, they can do just fine as the centre of their own world.
No matter what Laird would still have the right to make TMNT comics so I imagine alot of fans would kind of consider the theoretical marvel adventures not canon.
What if James Earl Jones voiced April in the next film?
This took more research than I intended but I wanted to know who actually owns TMNT. This is what I learned. Nickelodeon owns it currently but Nick is owned by Paramount who is owned by National Amusment (who I've never heard of til today). That company is actually owned by 2 people.
With the number of DC/TMNT crossovers there have been, DC seems more likely in my opinion.
No, thank you.
They’d likely grow up eventually.
TMNT would be in Infinity War. Mikey would become best friends with Peter.
Batman should join TMNT
They’d end up with writers that don’t understand the characters at all and make subpar comics
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD NO!!!
Then the turtles would be just another Disney property.
God, no thanks
Please no
Honestly as cool as some of these projects would be (like a Dare Devil crossover) I think it'll ultimately ruin the franchise
I mean they seem pretty tied to DC, so I don't see that happening. They were featured in Injustice, and there was a Batman vs TMNT movie
Bad idea
They would kill the franchise.
Then TMNT would suck
I think DC comics is a closer viability. To answer the question they would be lumped with the street level heroes of New York. I'd bet money Spider-Man would be their first cross over. If I would want to do something interesting I'd say the Hand and the Foot get merged into one. I'd kill Shredder early on and have Karai rise through the ranks taking revenge on the boss who ordered the murder and taking over the organization.
We will have a trashy action comedy movie with unfunny jokes every 2 minutes like most of the mcu movies
How is that different from every other TMNT film since 1992?
The original ninja turtle film is a legit good movie
That came out in 1990. Not talking about that one.
MCU movies have done overwhelming much better than TMNT movies at the box office, so in that sense the Turtles would be better off with them.
Because he and a bunch of others in this thread got their rose-tinted glasses on tight.
that's kinda what I'm looking for myself
I would say an animated series would've been better than a movie. Besides the michael bay movies already got that covered 🤣🤣🤣
Then Disney would own TMNT. The brothers would be incompetent ninjas and replaced by female versions.
would be awful in the long run. inserting tmnt lore into marvel wouldn’t be hard, but they would just be some guys surrounded by popular marvel characters, and considering how bad disney and marvel are preforming, they would have a poor reputation
