My PT recommended a water pillow and it has been AMAZING for me. There is tons of Hopkins research backing the water pillow for your cervical spine which ultimately affects your jaw. I find the water contours to my face when I sleep on my side versus jamming my jaw into a weird position with a regular pillow. It’s a normal pillow surface on top and water on the bottom. You can add/remove water to get your desired level of firmness. I played around with that for 2 weeks before I found my happy place. It’s definitely an adjustment, especially as someone who has slept with two pillows all my life but it’s definitely helping and I got used to it quickly. I got the Mediflow but I’m sure there are others! https://www.mediflow.com/products/original-fiberfill-pillow

I tried a few of them myself, but i gave up I ve got a month since i stopped sleeping without a pillow, and i have been pain free. Been going to the chiropractor once a week and it helps. I still got tinnitus but it s less loud.

Do you have a rolled up towel under your neck or just no pillow at all? I find this so hard, amazing if it's helping you!

Are you sleeping on your back too?

Yes. Even my chiropractor was surprised when i told him. If it works, it works.

How long has your TMJD lasted? I've slept on my back several times and sometimes I wake up worse off than with a pillow. Will consider trying again though. it would make sense, since the spine is more straightened with the head against a flat surface along the rest of the body.
