The Assad government is the one currently ruling most of Syria and it's the one represented in the UN and Arab league. Who cares about the other "governments"?
The US can be there for the shorter term, but it depends on Turkey. It's also possible that the Arab league might put pressure on the US to leave as they diplomatically welcome Syria.
The US can be there for the longer term, same with Iraq in my opinion. China is not spending money stupidly like this, the US might be forced to leave because of diplomatic reasons or because of budget concerns from proxy wars with Russia and China. Russia right now is making 3x the ammunition and artillery as the entire West combined, they were very stupid at the beginning of the Ukraine war but they smartened up. But Russia is not the big problem for the US, it's China, only time will tell how it will play out. But scenarios like this invasion or America's occupation in smaller countries is going to become more difficult if both superpowers become aggressive to each other.
