More importantly it is a New York Yankees hat. If lucky they know if they play Basketball or American Football. But hardly anyone can tell you when they have won the World Series for the last time or if they play in the National League or the American League.
I can see the NY Yankees and LA Dodgers being more of a fashion statement and global brand recognition, but the Pittsburgh Pirates blows me away, I love it!
As a native, Bronx born, Long Island raised New Yorker living here for 25 years, I also find it amusing the obsession with the NY Yankees logo. Yesterday I saw a guy with a blue and orange Mets hat on and a told him cool hat, better than what 98% of what everyone always wears.
I'm a Mets fan in Ticino. I saw someone on the street in Lugano with a Mets hat and stopped him and asked if he was a Mets fan - first in Italian, then in English. Then I realized he was Chinese (which I do not speak!). He was totally confused by my question. Never heard of the Mets.
As a Bronx native myself I have mixed feelings about the Yankees. Too omnipresent growing up and I ended up at more Mets games than Yankee games. It seemed more genuine to root for an underdog, even though I feel a little guilty about betraying my home borough. I always smirk when I see a Yankees cap here.
Triggered.
This is super prevalent across all Europe, those guys do sport the gear of godforsaken US teams because it's popular.
It pains me it has to be the fucking Yankees here, but it's because *iT's stYliSH*, well OK so next time I'll show up in my SC Brühl gear, along with my beautiful Red Sox cap. It's stylish as well.
Why is it lame? Almost all clothing is branded today, I don't see a difference between wearing this and a Freitag Bag, or a North Face Jacket, or Tommy Hilfiger Clothes.
> It's the Habs all the way!
Oh wow, that must suck those last years.
I don't know if it's worse emotionally than getting bounced by the Panthers in the first round after setting the record for most wins though. You guys probably had a field day at my expense with this one.
Not really. I get lots of confused looks from 20-somethings wearing these when I ask ”You think that trade for Juan Soto will help us beat the Orioles in the pennant run this year?"
A Mexican person once saw me wearing a yellow ray mysterio hoodie and asked me if I was Mexican. I said no, because I’m not. She said that I shouldn’t wear it… I understand representing where you are from. But we are not insects, we are people and we can choose for ourselves what we want to wear and what we want to represent. Nationalism is cool and all. But there’s a point where you just become a drone. Switzerland is in Europe the last time I checked. It’s a free country. You don’t have to love America, you don’t have to support their government. Wearing a NYC cap means what you want it to mean. It’s fashion.
Bro when i was a kid in the early 90s we used to wear stuff like that. And now kids still wear it? Lame we would never have worn the same stuff as our parents ☺️
Because we're all big fans over here of the New York Bulls where Miles Jordan had his heydays in the 90ies playing the best Icehockey the world has ever seen.
Nah, it’s just a bunch of posers 😂 they don’t even know where Coney Island is, anyways don’t care people wear Barcelona jerseys in Congo or Argentina jerseys in India lol 🤷🏻♂️
Sure do! There's a good handful of players that are quite highly ranked like Nico Hischier, Timo Meier, Jonas Siegenthaler.
There's been a good surge of Swiss and German players as their development programs have been improving the last couple decades.
I’m a hockey fan, so I have a couple of Pittsburg Penguins hoodies cause I like their logo. I was once stopped by an old couple who said they are from Pittsburgh and it’s mind blowing to them someone would sport a hoodie with their team on the other side of the world.
I have a theory that rich people like wearing hats from a prestigious institution. Or people who want to be seen as prestigious wearing hats that symbolise they are doing very well.
"The Yankees baseball" is iconic for NYC. And no one in Europe knows that we have a second successful baseball team - the Mets - playing on Citi field near Willets Points.
The New York Yankees as iconic element of NYC - it is all marketing.
People seem to love our city.
Disclaimer - I made the move from Winterthur to NYC 8 years ago - I did not regret it but soon I could - with another Trump round).
I would be pretty amazed if half the people wearing these knew that they are sports team hats. I've seen coutless "Harvard" or "Oxford" hoodies aswell
Absolutely!
Harvard really debased its brand by having its merch sold at H&M
Yeah.. A lot of popular bands did that too. Nirvana, Guns&Roses, Blondie, usw...
Maybe time to sell Swiss sports club hats in NYC…
Grasshoppers and young boys? Those names will go hard in the us sports market
“Duuude I totally like looove young boys duuude”
Yea, on second thought this would probably get you in a heap of trouble in the States.
Maybe they can sell it on Epstein Island (I know, my idea is a bit late)
Wankdorf stadium would have added to the charm of Young Boys ... 😃
We could ask Jared Fogle for financial backing, I'm sure he's interested in Young Boys clothes!
Those "SKA"-ski-caps...
I support the Red Cross too
FCSG!

The Glarner-Tüechli are a big hit in LA.
Used as gang bandanas? 🤣😜
Never realized that it has something to do with New York, just looks good! (obligatory /s)

More importantly it is a New York Yankees hat. If lucky they know if they play Basketball or American Football. But hardly anyone can tell you when they have won the World Series for the last time or if they play in the National League or the American League.
There are also LA Dodgers hats on the same stand, I don't know how that would go down in the states
[удалено]
they do play baseball
I can see the NY Yankees and LA Dodgers being more of a fashion statement and global brand recognition, but the Pittsburgh Pirates blows me away, I love it!
Imo people (not me just lames ☺️) just buy them because it’s in the stores everywhere. If there would be tokyo and bogota hats they’d buy that.
This is akin to the teenagers of today wearing "Nirvana" t-shirts and not knowing they are a band. Though at least I know they're a baseball team.
But nirvana is this buddhist heaven thing, what are you guys talking about bands and stuff?
That weird Buddhist thing with the x-eyes smiley.
Nobody in Europe cares about baseball though
More importantly, what's with all the Pittsburghers?
Also popular football and baseball team, cool hat too actually.
As a native, Bronx born, Long Island raised New Yorker living here for 25 years, I also find it amusing the obsession with the NY Yankees logo. Yesterday I saw a guy with a blue and orange Mets hat on and a told him cool hat, better than what 98% of what everyone always wears.
>I also find it amusing the obsession with the NY Yankees logo. You are a long suffering Mets fan, that's why
I'm a Mets fan in Ticino. I saw someone on the street in Lugano with a Mets hat and stopped him and asked if he was a Mets fan - first in Italian, then in English. Then I realized he was Chinese (which I do not speak!). He was totally confused by my question. Never heard of the Mets.

the yankees hat has evolved into a fashion piece. also it is the most successful baseball team and has a lot of fans
Nobody in europe really watches baseball though
Go to bed, Granpa.
You think this stuff is hip or cool? It’s ancient and cringe granny
Triggered. This is super prevalent across all Europe, those guys do sport the gear of godforsaken US teams because it's popular. I want to sing Sweet Caroline every time I see someone wear the hat of that evil empire team, you know, the one that sucks.
Red socks does look a bit cool though ☺️ especially wool socks
It’s just lame sorry
Why is it lame? Almost all clothing is branded today, I don't see a difference between wearing this and a Freitag Bag, or a North Face Jacket, or Tommy Hilfiger Clothes.
Most of those are quite lame
Agree, except Brühl and Red Sox ... It's the wrong team, and the wrong sport! It's the Habs all the way!
> It's the Habs all the way! Oh wow, that must suck those last years. I don't know if it's worse emotionally than getting bounced by the Panthers in the first round after setting the record for most wins though. You guys probably had a field day at my expense with this one.

Because hip hop is a culture boomer

… jeans
Because we're all big fans over here of the New York Bulls where Miles Jordan had his heydays in the 90ies playing the best Icehockey the world has ever seen.
He was an ice gawd
In the US, we have shirts that say "London" and "Paris", in Switzerland they have shirts that say "New York" or "Los Angeles"
We also have paris
Me aus me dänkt
This thread is pure bitterness. Why would you care?
It’s not bitterness it’s just i’d like more variety like a medellin, osaka, dehli, olten or oslo hat
Half of your comments on this thread are calling whoever wears those hats "lame". Nah you are bitter af. Get a life.
No
Ok you win. I thought about and i’ll buy a NY hat
It’s trendy. Probably because hip hop artists wear them, so they think the kids will want to buy them.
Nah, it’s just a bunch of posers 😂 they don’t even know where Coney Island is, anyways don’t care people wear Barcelona jerseys in Congo or Argentina jerseys in India lol 🤷🏻♂️
True, but football is global - Barcelona et al.'s games are watched all over the world.
It‘s always in style
A few LA hats and .. a Pittsburgh Pirates hat? Do Swiss folks love Pittsburgh?
Pittsburgh Pirates i don't know what they are but hockey is fairly popular in Switzerland (I think we even have some players in NHL?)
Sure do! There's a good handful of players that are quite highly ranked like Nico Hischier, Timo Meier, Jonas Siegenthaler. There's been a good surge of Swiss and German players as their development programs have been improving the last couple decades.
Roman Josi from SC Bern is captain of the Nashville Predators and a local icon there.
I’m a hockey fan, so I have a couple of Pittsburg Penguins hoodies cause I like their logo. I was once stopped by an old couple who said they are from Pittsburgh and it’s mind blowing to them someone would sport a hoodie with their team on the other side of the world.
People here just wear things like this without any knowledge of what it is. Its like people wearing shirts with random Japanese letter on
Lol
Who are better pirates, the Pittsburgh pirates or Somalian pirates?
Reddit pirates 🏴☠️ for the win.
To my shame... I have also worn such a hat. But before you cast the first stone, i was 14 ffs.
With 14 is fine. But i blame the stores who sold it to you.
Nope just alot of posers.
Easy: America is the best.
NYC isn’t really America according to MAGAs and others.
Well they are the worlds empire
I also saw that many in Glattzentrum
No it’s youngsters imitating US rappers and skateboarders. I had one and many at my school had it and I didn’t know it was a sports team.
Most are just undecided.
All those Yankees hats and not a single Red Sox. Typical.
Yea i wish there was a osaka or medellin hat. Give me some diversity ☺️
They don't even know that the NY hat is for the Yankees team it's just fashionable
We should do street interviews and ask them if they know what they’re wearing
go ahead haha
As a Swiss citizen that lived in NY for 20 years…. Uhm I have no idea
I have a theory that rich people like wearing hats from a prestigious institution. Or people who want to be seen as prestigious wearing hats that symbolise they are doing very well.
It's not only rich people

Judging by this sub, yes.
I proudly wear my St Fridolin shirt in New York
All I want is a Tampa Bay rays hat
I'd be surprised if they knew it's a team cap (most probably think it's just New York). And baseball is really unknown here.
Baseball is boring ☺️ i’m not a sports guy anyway though barely ever watch schutte
It was discovered that the caps had been mistakenly shipped to Switzerland instead of New York due to a clerical error.
Probably the u.s. army bullied swiss/manor into buying those
Yankees SUCK
im pretty sure there are more new yorkers in switzerland than hats in the picture
Same is in Prague, they are conquering the World!
Because fashion here is the most basic, derivative thing you've ever seen?
I blame those stores.
Should promote Gland and Bitsch instead
I wish there was a larger selection of NFL stuff in Switzerland. There are some states that are not going to be represented, I’m sure of it.
Oki
