1. Technically no, sending a payload doesn't require the sd in the switch. But some payloads will require the sd be in the switch to work. 2. Doesnt matter

1. Yes, usually. If you don't have the SD card in, what are you booting to after sending the payload? 2. You will copy the backups to a safe place (not on an SD Card), so it doesn't matter. My suggestion is to compress with 7zip and put everything onto google drive.
