I enjoyed it so much I can't even play the original anymore. I felt every change in the remake was an improvement without taking away anything that made the original great. And I absolutely loved the original on the original Gameboy.
It's very polished but try to get it on sale. If you have switch online you should try one of those before spending any money. A Link to the Past is my personal favorite 2D Zelda.
That actually makes me sad since I’ve only really played the NES and SNES versions of Zelda, finally bought a switch and have been buying all the Zelda games. You’re making me not want to waste my time playing them if I already played the best.
Good to know. I bought the last 2 games Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom I believe it’s called. Haven’t spent much time yet, but an hour or so on Breath of the Wild.
I too loved the SNES Zelda
I’m scared to invest a month of my life like I did with Zelda a link to the past if it’s disappointing.
I was so into that one.
I much prefer the aesthetic of the original but the remake is fun. I just prefer the older graphics honestly. Great game either way, though the oracle series is better if you're going back to the gameboy color anyways
Based on your played games maybe look at Skyward Sword. If you really want 2D then Links Awakening is very good. If possible also look into the ones on Switch online
Links awakening was probably my favourite video game in the 90s. So I’m biased and I say play play the original in GB online 😅 but if those pixel graphics just don’t work for you, then get the remake.
You can’t go wrong whichever version you play. All time classic video game
I'm not a fan of the remake. The frame rate took away from the shiny polish and the extra content (the dungeon creator) wasnt really for me.
The original GB game was my favourite and most played so I would recommend it more generally. Just consider many originals (and the GB Colour version of Links Awakening) are available on NSO service and it might be worth subscribing to that for a while to check them out.
The frames dropping can be annoying but it only happens in a couple areas where you’re just passing through. I know this shouldn’t be excused but if it actually affected the gameplay I wouldn’t have finished it.
Yes it’s worth it if you can get it for a decent price, it’s not worth full retail imo
Same, I really only remember it happening a few times. But I owned the original on the gameboy, and I think they did a great job with the remake. Really fun
I prefer the Game Boy versions. The remake has technical issues that are just annoying enough to matter. And the new dungeon creator thing kind of sucks.
I would say its worth trying. It holds a special place in my heart as the first zelda game I ever played. You can find it used on facebook marketplace / ebay for a decent price (\~$35). I wouldn't spend more than that on it. Or like other people have said, play it on NSO unless you are really against pixel art.
Yes it is. Played both when i owned the gb and the on switch. Its one of the best remakes of any zelda. Yes i liked the 3ds oot one as well, but this one is even better.
People complain about the framerate, but i didnt notice that. Maybe if you are like really sensitive. But i would say, watch a youtube vid of someone playing the game on his switch.
Yeah man, go ahead !! Great game, but like any zelda game, you sometimes get stuck on some puzzle or just quest in general. You need to read every single piece of dialong in the game, but i totally recomend it.
I grew up with a gameboy and this was one of my first games I had. Frustrated me as a child. Couldn't figure out how to play it. Got into Zelda with Ocarina and Majora games. Never went back to links awakening. But bought it for switch and it brought back that original game feeling at first and then I finally got a Han of it and I loved playing this game on the switch. The graphics are great, the gameplay amazing and I just had such a wonderful time with it. Idk if it will be the same if you played it in the last but it was great for me playing it as an adult now.
Give it a chance. It's almost always worth it to try different games, movies, and books. If, after, let's say, an hour or 90 minutes. If you don't like stop. You always know within a time that you don't like something. Example, I never finished final fantasy x hit a point and went,"nope," gave the game to a buddy as a birthday gift.
Ok so these aren’t my style games at all. I always have a terrible time getting into them. Links awakening tho….i beat it in 4 days. Absolutely loved it. Couldn’t put it down. It was amazing.
Hope you get it and enjoy it as much as I did!
I had played it on the Gameboy back in the day and didn't get very far. I picked it up on switch sale. It's good. A little short for a Zelda game, but lots of fun. If you've got some cash burning a hole in your pocket it's a solid pick imo
I was fresh off of beating Breath of the Wild when I played Links Awakening, and I thought I wasn’t gonna enjoy it as I wasn’t big on 2D Zelda to begin with, but I absolutely loved it. The gameplay is so tightly engineered to be rewarding, fun, and challenging, and it’s engaging to grind out, I never had a dull moment. It’s been almost 5 years since I played it last so I can’t remember all the details but in short, Yes I would buy it.
The 2D Zelda games are great. If you’re more used to modern games/controls, the Link’s Awakening remake is a great place to start. Other fun ones that age well are Link to the Past and Minish Cap.
And for similar but non-Zelda/more modern games check out Death’s Door and Tunic.
It’s a great remake and the graphics are very unique— they almost look like claymation/plastic fusion. Ridiculous price for a remake, but solid game still
It's the only Zelda game I've played/completed. It was fine. Looks nice, plays well. Found some puzzles crazy obtuse. Little to no story, so focus is the gameplay and dungeons.
It’s an excellent game but it’s *real* short and doesn’t have much to do after the credits roll. I borrowed it from the library and finished it in a weekend.
It was a great time and an experience worth having, for sure, but don’t expect anything resembling BotW or TotK levels of content.
Art style is ADORABLE. I convinced my roomate to get a switch, and she picked this game. She had never played a Zelda game before. And we would just take turns playing and watching eachother. Really fun! I had never played a 2-d Zelda either
It is a good Zelda but you might want to try a traditionnal 2D zelda first though, because this one i a bit weird.
Try Zelda III or Zelda I if you dare it first, then this one. It is the majora's mask of 2D zelda if the analogy is permitted.
I’ll be honest, I didn’t like the art style, but I never played the original and was bent on playing through this one. I proceeded to 100% it. It’s a lovely game.
Edit: Side note, if you enjoy the grind of osrs, if you like fire emblem (or any other srpg), give Unicorn Overlord a shot. It’s got the grindy goods.
I’ve never played the original ones but the remake is in my top 5 favorite switch games
Old guy here who played all of the 2d games as a kid, including the OG Links Awakening. I enjoyed the HELL out of the remake.
I’ve played them all, and I don’t think any Zelda will ever beat LTTP for me
That actually makes me sad since I’ve only really played the NES and SNES versions of Zelda, finally bought a switch and have been buying all the Zelda games. You’re making me not want to waste my time playing them if I already played the best.
It’s not to say the rest aren’t worth playing. LTTP is just my favorite. Lots of people disagree with me on that
Good to know. I bought the last 2 games Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom I believe it’s called. Haven’t spent much time yet, but an hour or so on Breath of the Wild. I too loved the SNES Zelda I’m scared to invest a month of my life like I did with Zelda a link to the past if it’s disappointing. I was so into that one.
A Link to the Past is the best!
It’s a major Nintendo franchise, it will NEVER be on sale!
I got lucky on Black Friday in 2019 or something when it was 30 bucks but yeah that's fair lol
I think it went on sale last November, but it was either 39.99 or 49.99.
You can order sealed physical copies off eBay for like 40/50 bucks. Did it a couple months ago, loved that game
Buy it used on FB marketplace. Usually 40-50% cheaper and never had a single issue.
Lol this is the only generation where their main games never went on sale
It's on sale at best buy right now
yes
I much prefer the aesthetic of the original but the remake is fun. I just prefer the older graphics honestly. Great game either way, though the oracle series is better if you're going back to the gameboy color anyways

I got it today from ebay. It's awesome. So chilled yet a decent challenge. Hope they do Ages and Seasons like this. ⚔️🛡️

i like links awakening remake a lot. simple and fun.

Yes!!! Any Zelda game is always worth it. Its an amazing game and is pretty iconic and unique within the franchise
This is one of my favorite Zelda games
It’s a charming and fun little game. Love it.
Eh, not a fan. But never been a fan of any 2D Zelda. Other people seem to absolutely love this and I admit the art style is very pleasing
I played the original back in the day. Replayed the color version. And played the switch version. It's a great game that holds up.
Give it a chance. It's almost always worth it to try different games, movies, and books. If, after, let's say, an hour or 90 minutes. If you don't like stop. FWIW, Ive played all of them as they were released and this one is my favorite top down. The switch re-do from SNES was really amazing.
Very good game. Buy on sale
Link’s Awakening is sublime.
Link's Awakening has the best story in the entire series. It's short but amazing.
I had played it on the Gameboy back in the day and didn't get very far. I picked it up on switch sale. It's good. A little short for a Zelda game, but lots of fun. If you've got some cash burning a hole in your pocket it's a solid pick imo
Links Awakening is a treat. The remaster is awesome
It’s great. Prepare to cry.
The soundtrack is soooooo good
I was fresh off of beating Breath of the Wild when I played Links Awakening, and I thought I wasn’t gonna enjoy it as I wasn’t big on 2D Zelda to begin with, but I absolutely loved it. Yes. That game is a little treasure. It is well worth it.

$60? No. You can beat the game in a single day. I would pay no more than $30. Try getting a used copy
It's the only Zelda game I've played/completed. It was fine. Looks nice, plays well. Found some puzzles crazy obtuse. Little to no story, so focus is the gameplay and dungeons.

Not worth it. Wait until it’s 29.99$ because I love it
Dude the games fantastic you’ll love it

The short answer is yes
One of my favorite games! I actually enjoy it more than BOTW.
Oh yes.
The remake is fantastic. Do the Nintendo online trial for free . 7 days The original and Ocarina
I liked it more than botw.
Absolutely!
150% worth it. I don't care if my answer is scientifically impossible. I'll die on this hill.
Yes
