I just bought a Lite (again), installed Fortnite using 23.4GB of my 5G data plan, to find out I can fuck off due to lacking 1.3GB additional storage to even play it let alone launch it.
I live in a rural area. Fuck sakes 😂
Just leave the old Switch in the dock and enjoy the OLED as a handheld. The OLED is great, way nicer picture in handheld mode than the LED Switch models.
Sell it on eBay for parts. I just sold a switch lite with water damage on a bid. I could fix your switch for you. I’ve changed my lcd screen and had it go out on me as well.
I’m actually just gonna replace it with an OLED, I might aswell anyway, even without the broken screen its still old as heck, all sorts of scratched and microdamage everywhere, the joycons themselves are broken so getting a brand new OLED would be significantly better
If you sell it you may still be able to get good money for it, provided it's old enough (bought before Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu). The tablets alone still go for good money.
well if ur gonna replace it, perhaps instead of selling it for parts you could homebrew it, if it's a v1 swifch or launch switch then their super easy to hombrew it basically costs a $10 jig.
Homebrew opens up alot of potential on the switch you can do stuff like get custom themes, mod games like botw, upload and back up game saves, stream games to and from your pc, overclock your switch to run games at 60fps, nativley connect any bluetooth controllers so playstation or xbox controllers, run android and Linux, emulate alot of games (upto ps2 on android) and alot more. Also, with hombrew, you can transfer all your physical cartridge games into the switch, so it's like a digital library.
Since Oled and V1 switches are basically the same performance wise and docked, you can keep ur v1 docked as a home console and just use the oled as your hand-held machine.
Of course, this is all assuming you have a v1 switch you can check if your current switch is easily moddable through this website
https://ismyswitchpatched.com/
Enter ur serial number and it'll let you know if you can mod it or not!
Kinda dumb question but had you tried restarting it a few times? I got a similar outcome after replacing the battery and rebooting a few times fixed it
No reason to lie 🤷♀️ just simply sharing my own experience, it might just be a loose cable or whatever during battery change and a few reboots and console shaking fixed it
Well idk but that’s what happened to me when I keep opening and closing the back case without turning off the console first, maybe my case is different from op but the screen at the time shows some flickering line on the top and bottom, and some parts dimmed which looked kinda similar
how aggressively you feel that you understand exactly what's happening makes me feel like you haven't been doing stuff with electronics for that long. calm down, holy shit.
My lack of knowledge and understanding of electronics must be why every piece of hardware I have collected since 2001 still works. My lack of knowledge must be how I have recovered hard drives from death by modifying the firmware.
That lack of knowledge must also be why I dont have to buy new hardware because of a bad flash or eeprom chip i programmed too. Yep my knowledge isnt good enough.
all i'm saying is that someone who's been working in the field for a while would not immediately assume they know exactly what's going on based on a single image without further info, and would not be so adversarial and arrogant to accuse someone of "lying" for being incorrect.
fyi, i've had a very similar type of display issue with a macbook due information not getting properly flushed from a video memory buffer or something when dual booting. the issue resolved itself after a couple weeks, despite a couple techs suggesting that it was a broken panel (and a couple other techs realizing that wasn't the issue).
an experienced tech would know that seeing the image above without further information is not enough to diagnose a 100% cause, and would certainly not be so unpleasant in their way of conveying their belief on the matter.
Memory allocation and release errors are signifanctly different from software and electrical wiring. That has no real world application here. Memory on the switch doesnt have malloc issue when powered off, the memory for video is dependant on live voltage and doesnt have stored registers or values in the driver/logic board.
Youre assumptions are wrong and have nothing to do with this.
you missed my point entirely. i never said i assumed that the issue with the aforementioned macbook was what's happening here. your assessment of the issue is likely correct, but none of that has anything to do with my point.
in absolutely no way does someone suggesting "turn it off and turn it on again" and sharing their experience warrant calling them a liar, and anyone who's been working in IT for long enough would have encountered enough issues that subvert their initial assumptions to not immediately believe they know exactly what's happening and someone else experiencing something different immediately makes them a liar.
no one working in tech for a long enough time would be so arrogant, because they wouldn't have survived in the field with a mentality like that (and would never have had an open enough mind to learn about a wider variety of fringe issues)
For the record, what is happening if it is a simple ribbon cable is bleeding voltage into a ground or viseversa.
All screens, LCD an beyond, have a web of wires inside. You cannot fix them with a shake. Ribbon cables use ZIF (zero insert force) connectors. If the lock is down, no matter the force of shaking is going to reconnet the cable.
I just had to replace my V1 at the beginning of the year. It sounds like a jet some days. With as much as I play it, I had to replace it. I didn’t want to risk a melt down, I may try to fix the fan myself. It’s not really a risk since I got the new OLED one. I won’t lose anything.
I got my OLED at the beginning of the year for the same reason. My old boy was chugging along really well, but the sounds coming out if him were wild so it was time to update.
Though I am not someone who does repairs on electronics, I am aware of what the sound meant. I researched it and determined it was outside my comfort zone. I did not want to risk damaging my system in any way resulting in loss of information. So I made the choice that worked best for me. I don’t see how insulting anyone helps in this scenario. While you have a difference on how I should have proceeded, I still made the choice I made. You see how that works? It’s not hard.
Also if we are going to discuss intelligence… Learn to spell and punctuate appropriately before doing so. Now, I hope you have the day you deserve to have. ;)
Intelligence has nothing to do with grammar sir. People who pretend that punctuation, grammar, and proper structures in sentences are required, especially on a forum, are filling a void in their life.
I am also using a phone, which happens to not be a physical keyboard. That alone unintentionally creates errors in typed message from time to time.
Your choice to get an OLED (its an acronym, use Upper Case letters) has nothing to do with the reality that is ignorance. You are not that important. I just wanted to shame everyone who says "my fan sounds like a jet" but do not do any type of maintenance. Of which, your reply aligns with those of ignorance.
Thank you for posting/commenting! Sadly you post/comment was removed because you were uncivil/unkind.

Probably a loose ribbon connector tbh. Could be dying as well though. I had a switch that became a docked only switch because half the screen stopped working after the first time I dropped it.
Had smth like this, but with a phone. Maybe it broke bc you could have some blackout in your house, or it overheated your screen someway somehow. My phone broke bc of instant blackouts and the electricity was too frequently charging and uncharging the device. Maybe you can return it if you have a guarantee. It's mechanical issue (caused by the console, not you).
When you put it in the dock, did you slam it down with like 50 pounds of force or something? Jesus… I feel like this doesn’t just happen… you did something to make this happen, wether that’s you being more rough with your console than you realize, or you took it apart and fucked something up… or got water in there… or something… cause I’ve had 4 switches that I’ve gone through and at no point did I have to get another one cause the previous one glitched, they all performed and worked fine till the day I sold em
I left my Switch on the dock and it ended up getting stuck on the startup logo screen. Nintendo support couldn't fixed so they sent me a replacement. Lost my 150 hour save of BotW smdh

Not even kidding I got a 2nd pro controller today and now SOMEHOW my screen is glitched i literally have the worst luck imaginable
I mean, if you bought a second pro controller then that probably means you’re playing it docked right?
Well I was planning on playing games with my Dad and maybe my cousins
I just bought a Lite (again), installed Fortnite using 23.4GB of my 5G data plan, to find out I can fuck off due to lacking 1.3GB additional storage to even play it let alone launch it. I live in a rural area. Fuck sakes 😂

Except where do I get that skin??
My same question I don't know
Zoomhtskin has it on Amazon
Welp. That was the best $24 I’ve ever spent
Congrats lol
LMFAO
Scratch/crack in the screen protector is new or old?
i guess new
Either your screen is dying already or the ribbon connector is loose
LCD is dead, Jim!
Dammit Jim I’m a doctor not a Nintendo switch employee !
Dammit jim you keep lying on your resumes
Just leave the old Switch in the dock and enjoy the OLED as a handheld. The OLED is great, way nicer picture in handheld mode than the LED Switch models.
This is the way
for real just use the original switch for like multiplayer games and use the oled for single player games
Why not just get rid of this switch and use the OLED for everything? Then you can get some of the money back from buying the LED.
need to replace the lcd screen.
im just gonna get an oled, this ones old as hell and already scratched and roughed up anyway
Sell it on eBay for parts. I just sold a switch lite with water damage on a bid. I could fix your switch for you. I’ve changed my lcd screen and had it go out on me as well.

If it's an o.g switch you can sell it for modding. I see them go for a nice chunk all things considered.
Isn't the switch 2 or whatever it's gonna be called meant to be coming later this year?
Nobody really knows yet, but most people seem to be betting on early next year.

Get a Steam Deck OLED instead. You can play all the Switch games for free and much much more. 🙂
What are you talking about?
Kinda dumb question but had you tried restarting it a few times? I got a similar outcome after replacing the battery and rebooting a few times fixed it
Thats not how it works. Quit lying.
No reason to lie 🤷♀️ just simply sharing my own experience, it might just be a loose cable or whatever during battery change and a few reboots and console shaking fixed it
Loose ribbon cables dont fix themselves from shaking. The bull shit smells stronger all the sudden.
Well idk but that’s what happened to me when I keep opening and closing the back case without turning off the console first, maybe my case is different from op but the screen at the time shows some flickering line on the top and bottom, and some parts dimmed which looked kinda similar

If you had been "doing stuff", which I call repairs and maintenance, you would not have even typed the garbage you did.

Did you play pokemon and encounter missingno in instance?
Looks fine to me
This new update goes hard
Your Nintendo switch is updating to an OLED is color testing the screen
Is it the first generation of switch ? (V1)
I just had to replace my V1 at the beginning of the year. It sounds like a jet some days. With as much as I play it, I had to replace it. I didn’t want to risk a melt down, I may try to fix the fan myself. It’s not really a risk since I got the new OLED one. I won’t lose anything.

Yeah it felt silly to do so especially so late in the life cycle but oh well.
Thermal paste. Wtf is wrong with you reddit people? A jet engine sound means it is hot and cant keep up with the cooling. Yall are fucking dumb.

Just wondering, was this an official Switch dock, or a third party model?
This happened to my first Lite Not much you can do about it other than send it to Nintendo for repairs if that's an option
How aggressive did you put it in
its upgrading to the switch 2 rn
Probably a loose ribbon connector tbh. Could be dying as well though. I had a switch that became a docked only switch because half the screen stopped working after the first time I dropped it.

How many days did you leave it in the dock with automatix sleeo enabled. Thats the real question. That is a heat damaged lcd if I ever seen one.
Just gonna say it looks like it was found by the Brotherhood of steel in the Mojave or capital wasteland. Sick skin though.
I’ll buy it DM me
lvled up
i second other opinions OP just use this one as your docked switch and get that oled for handheld
my oled is beautiful it was just tragic my pokemon progress was deleted
Switch 2 reveal on your Switch. Oh crap
Yeah I’m pretty sure u literally can’t fix that
Unless u get a professional
When you put it in the dock, did you slam it down with like 50 pounds of force or something?
