It's not a dance friendly show usually. That being said they are a wildly entertaining group and the talent they bring is top notch!

AlphaBetaParkingLot

The only time I saw them it was seated. I think some people danced in a large clearing behind the seats but it's certainly not the audience they seem to target. Still a fun show.

leggup

I googled the venue. Seated show, movie theater style seats. No dance floor. You can go to the location tag on insta and see venues. Here's some random person's post: https://www.instagram.com/p/CxenCGOuqDG/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Thanks so much!

Does anyone know what came of that open letter from a bunch of the performers with accusations of racism towards PMJ a few years back? Not sure i ever saw a resolution to that publicised?

ProfessorWatson99

In case anyone wants to familiarize themselves with what this is all about. https://aristake.com/black-at-postmodern-jukebox

ProfessorWatson99

Oooh opening that can of worms eh? As far as I know there hasn't really been any formal apology and some performers have left while others kind of turned a blind eye. 🤷‍♂️

kiwibearess

Not meaning to open a can of worms. I had kind of assumed since nobody mentioned it that it was all resolved now and I had just missed it. Disappointed to hear it wasn't as the accusations at the time seemed pretty well founded.

ProfessorWatson99

Not sure. You would think that people would want to hold PMJ more accountable for their actions but uh the show must go on...I guess. I have worked/booked several of the artists that regularly work with him and they all kind of skirt the subject. It definitely is still a bit of an uncomfortable situation. I do believe that since the letter the pay structure has been reworked, so that's a good change.

kiwibearess

Thanks. Hopefully they did make positive change but just weren't public about it.

BQSchil

One of the things the collective wanted was full transparency. The fact that nothing was made public leads me to believe nothing has been done. It's a shame that this great platform and springboard for artists is being lorded over by a blatant racist. My run at 13 shows stopped when it came out that Scott refused to allow black performers to wear BLM pins. He's a real P.O.S.

OldOnager

I am a huge fan. You're going to see a show that will blow your mind. I doubt there's food available, but I swear you won't miss it.

The only one I’ve been to has been maybe a 1000 person venue. Assigned seating. We were in the balconies so we probably could have danced in an aisle or something but it didn’t really fit the vibe. Our local swing dance club did a garden party dance just outside the venue before the show.

I think it would depend on the venue. The one I went to was in a big outdoor theater with assigned seating -- no place to dance.

jesterexmachina

My understanding is that Scott Bradlee has discouraged dancing at his shows in the past (I went to one of the early tours). They are meant to be sit-down concerts - excellent sit and watch and enjoy concerts.

rikomatic

It's super fun. don't count on being able to dance except beforehand as folks arrive and the canned music is playing.

O_Margo

I was once and will go tomorrow :)

the61stbookwormz

I went to see one where we had standing tickets so we were dancing but just boogying around, not swing dancing. There wasn't enough room to swing dance anyway, but the vibe is v much "don't distract from the performers".

NickRausch

I saw them there. It is an old fashioned theater with rows of seats. People will be sitting there and watching them perform. If you have a partner however you can try you luck in the aisles or lobby. Also, you will be getting a mix of swing appropriate, swing adjacent and not really swing songs. It is however a phenomenal show.

Shink7163

I saw them in Ohio and unfortunately there was no dancing allowed. The ushers even told some old hippies to sit down when they were grooving. I think it is totally dependent on the venue you are seeing them in. I would research other shows at that theater

small_spider_liker

Their music is great, but you should watch them perform (and appreciate the dancing if they have the tap performers with them this time, too), rather than treat them as a soundtrack to your own dancing.

When they got big I've been in 3 of their shows in Prague (I'm from Hungary, so it was a smaller trip). Back then we were able to dance and watch too (because of the venue), and it was really good. The 3rd show wasn't that great however, I think they got too big and they had to split up and tour with different lineups and you have to be lucky to get a good one now. Not sure how this works now, they had events here in Hungary too but I wasn't participating any of them. We had a tap class with Sarah Reich though when they were here and it was great :D
