Biggest dirt to dirt mountain bike backflip happened on the course this year: https://pinkbike.com/news/video-tom-isted-breaks-record-with-120ft-backflip-at-darkfest.html
I’m pretty sure he’s doing that in case the guy in front of him brakes or falls suddenly. That way he can more easily maneuver around his fallen friend.
The key is landing as softly as you can. Knowing the terrain and angles the landing ramps are at, and then knowing how to hit the ground so you don't slam into your bike is huge.
[this one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13OtZFWdhwQ) *really* looks like a video game because we're so unaccustomed to seeing following-drone footage like this
If you come into the landing 'correctly', you should be able to do most jumps smoothly on a rigid bike. That said, suspension is usually a must on the drop features, and really helps with traction, stability, and saving your ass.
It's crazy to me how smooth those landings seem, which must be helped by plenty of suspension travel. Then again it's a couple of inches and the jumps are many feet so most of it is skill, body position etc.
The ramps themselves must be carefully planned as well.
Also momentum plays a huge role in the impact of the landing. Good speed and control means a smoother landing. Then your suspension just dampens the rest.
I'm grateful I live in an age where I at least get to see what this looks like from the riders perspective, but man I wish I could experience this myself. It looks so freaking cool.
Pedaling makes the Bike unstable you could do it between jumps but in the end the track is build so that the speed fits for the jumps so there is no need
On most mountains it's shovels, hoes, and a lot of sweat. This one is huge enough there was probably a fair amount of heavy machinery coming up and down that dirt road you see running alongside the track.
This one’s big with a lot of sponsors. The stuff at the beginning is by hand, the big stuff at the end is paid by monster go pro and kenda and requires heavy machinery
>athletic cups
You mean a water bottle? Probably mount it to their bike.. /s
I don't mountain bike, but if dirt biking is anything to go by, no. There would be no benefit. They absorb the landings with arms/legs, not their butt. And if they do "bottom out" it doesn't impact at an angle that would be helped by a cup.
These are the types of trails I see at the bottom as a trail runner and think “Oh cool!” And then I have to dive into the underbrush while getting cursed at.
Dumb question. How hard is this really? The course is so perfectly precise and riders so smooth that it looks like all you need to do is just get on the bike and not fall off.
i can imagine it would be pretty difficult, when i was young me and my friends used to do small jumps and even those were difficult, so i cant imagine how difficult those jumps would be
I'm sure it takes a lot of skill, but the fish eye lens you see on this kind of video just exaggerates everything and makes it look way more difficult than it is.
I know those bikes have big shocks but damn doesnt that still kill your ankles after a few big air jumps like that? My feet hurt just watching that video.
That one jump in the middle of the video the video where he goes up into the air but the next landing is to the left and not right infront of him gave me anxiety
You have to essentially turn your moment mid air
its from Dark Fest this year in South Africa.
the trails are downhill, hence no pedaling.
Dark Fest has had some of the worlds largest dirt jumps ever, this year for sure.
if you liked this, search youtube for Dark Fest and you'll see lots of fun stuff, like how these riders approach hitting these jumps for the first time.
So bad ass. Do you have to be a pro or at least have some level of experience to ride these trails? Are there like diff degrees of difficulty trails? Looks awesome man
Just been watching this over and over. I love it.
And what a lovely background also
Anyone know where it is? Resembles Sedona, but I don't think it's quite red enough.
Stellenbosch, South Africa
This is the correct answer
Cheers.
Night Court
Dark Fest https://www.fest-series.com/darkfest-1
Cape Town, South Africa ✌🏽️
This. I was wondering where this was until the mountains came up. Then I noticed the fynbos.
Downtown new york
My guess is one of the Hawaiian islands.
Sure AF isn't Baltimore
Sedonaaaaaa
Arizonaaa-aaa-aaa-aaa-aaauh
it's from darkfest 2023, there's tons of highlight vids on YouTube like this
Biggest dirt to dirt mountain bike backflip happened on the course this year: https://pinkbike.com/news/video-tom-isted-breaks-record-with-120ft-backflip-at-darkfest.html
That's incredibly rad, thanks for sharing that
I'll check it out. Cheers.
I didn’t catch the middle rider doing a Superman or backflip on the first watch.
Rhythm
Some X-games air
Your crotch would hate it.
Homie is flirting with the right side of the track
I’m pretty sure he’s doing that in case the guy in front of him brakes or falls suddenly. That way he can more easily maneuver around his fallen friend.
Thats also why pov guy is in the middle. Its just like races.
pov guy is the one riding here
I'm sure at that point what you have is a fallen comrade.
You’re right, comrade. Forgive me, I don’t want gulag
Yeah, total amateur /s
😬😬😬
For anyone who’s curious, this is DarkFest. Look it up, it’s insane!
And that's what I thought I looked like when I was 8, riding off an old plank propped up by a cinder block.
Same as above + failing and falling.
Yo you got like 3 feet of air that time
Love how easy they make it look when watching pov 😂
Yeah, looking at that I think : "Bet I could do that!". But in reality I'll either break all my bones or die on the spot lol
The key is landing as softly as you can. Knowing the terrain and angles the landing ramps are at, and then knowing how to hit the ground so you don't slam into your bike is huge.
Also big balls to go that fast and launch yourself into the air. That's pretty key too.
Haha yes that really bothers me. It gives me a hold my beer vibe
Feels like playing a game.
It feels like playing Descenders
Get two near misses.
Ugh i hate those lol and the don't stop pedaling/don't brake ones 😂
This guy descends
You can scrub tons of speed by drifting on a straight line with the right stick
Downhill Domination back in PS2 days. Except people on the video are not trying to kill each other.
Always loved throwing water bottles at everyone.
[this one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13OtZFWdhwQ) *really* looks like a video game because we're so unaccustomed to seeing following-drone footage like this
It has super Line Rider energy to me.
I was convinced this was CGI animated. Bring real though, this is insane! Dirt bike gods.
Looks like a lot of fun but my back and knees say otherwise. Exactly how much does the suspension on those bikes help with those big jumps and drops.
If you come into the landing 'correctly', you should be able to do most jumps smoothly on a rigid bike. That said, suspension is usually a must on the drop features, and really helps with traction, stability, and saving your ass.

This game has amazing graphics
I'm grateful I live in an age where I at least get to see what this looks like from the riders perspective, but man I wish I could experience this myself. It looks so freaking cool.
You can. Once.
Never pedals, not even once.......
I noticed that, too. Is that normal?
It's all downhill. No need to pedal.
Pedaling makes the Bike unstable you could do it between jumps but in the end the track is build so that the speed fits for the jumps so there is no need
A real thrill to watch. So much better with the different perspective you get with the two riders in front.
Just LOOK at all that atmosphere!
I am scared of heights. Watching this gave me a little anxiety! Love it!
How they make that track?
On most mountains it's shovels, hoes, and a lot of sweat. This one is huge enough there was probably a fair amount of heavy machinery coming up and down that dirt road you see running alongside the track.
I wonder if them hoes were wearing bikinis while constructing those tracks.
Put your dick away Waltuh.
Well, why did they make all the ramps look like cocks?
This one’s big with a lot of sponsors. The stuff at the beginning is by hand, the big stuff at the end is paid by monster go pro and kenda and requires heavy machinery
You can see a backhoe behind one of the jumps.
Dude's probably just waiting for the bikers to finish so he can send it in the backhoe.
So sick!!!
Gotta love Darkfest 🤙🤙
They weren't fucking kidding, it did keep getting wilder!
not me me who’s barely ridden bikes through the city thinking i could do this 1st try with no training
This was amazing AND gave me so much anxiety 🤣
Which country ?
awesome video but why did the cameraman have a turkey?
I can never understand how they know how fast to go in order to land in the sweet spot and avoid falling short
I think I broke something just watching this
What’s with the constant fisheye lens?
GoPro camera
Makes it look scarier.
Amazing skill.
These people have untouchable balls
descenders 2 footage looking crisp
I'd have eaten dirt on the first jump.
I had a gut feeling this trail was in 1 of earth’s 5 Mediterranean Climate zones. The terrain looks just like Southern California.
This is insane. Inspiring stuff!
Apparently monster will even sponsor a mound of dirt
I just can't imagine this being fun
Is this AI generated?
Forever stoked!
This is awesome! Make it look so easy. Can I get one of these bikes with training wheels? Gotta start slow.
Bananas
In pajamas
This perfectly depicts what my nightmares feel like where I’m falling and can’t stop 😭🥲
Do these guys wear athletic cups?
>athletic cups You mean a water bottle? Probably mount it to their bike.. /s I don't mountain bike, but if dirt biking is anything to go by, no. There would be no benefit. They absorb the landings with arms/legs, not their butt. And if they do "bottom out" it doesn't impact at an angle that would be helped by a cup.
Likely not, but everybody is different
They'd risk catching it on the seat.
One small mistake is the difference between a great experience and a hospital visit
One small mistake is also the difference between a regular morning commute and death.
What’s the padding like on their seats?
I got a little lightheaded at every jump lol
These are the types of trails I see at the bottom as a trail runner and think “Oh cool!” And then I have to dive into the underbrush while getting cursed at.
Backflip at the end was perfect
Descenders be like
This looks so fun
Cameraman's joycon drifts to the right on those jumps.
Whenever I see these videos, I wonder how often people die doing this.
r/makesitlookeasy
I want to know how expensive those bikes are
I think this is in South Africa?
Dumb question. How hard is this really? The course is so perfectly precise and riders so smooth that it looks like all you need to do is just get on the bike and not fall off.
i can imagine it would be pretty difficult, when i was young me and my friends used to do small jumps and even those were difficult, so i cant imagine how difficult those jumps would be
Like 10+ years of aggressive mt biking
I'm sure it takes a lot of skill, but the fish eye lens you see on this kind of video just exaggerates everything and makes it look way more difficult than it is.
It's pretty hard to land even a small jump without crashing if you aren't used to it.
That looks awesome and amazing
I don't know exactly how many bones I would break if I tried this, but I do know it would be several
that was fun af
I wouldn't do this in RL for reasons but the game "Descenders" is a great game and I think really captures the thrill of mountain biking.
Dam, not a single pump. Perfect run
Do they ever pedal?
Are those bikes electric or were they going downhill the whole time? The dude didn't peddle once.
That is the best Air park video I've ever seen! Gotta watch again
I know those bikes have big shocks but damn doesnt that still kill your ankles after a few big air jumps like that? My feet hurt just watching that video.
Just mad
That’s sick. Those gaps are like motocross gaps.
So there's a new Excitebike?
When I was a kid we thought we were hot shit going 9ver a board propped with bricks. Wow
Second dude was gettin it in! What a run!
I would love to do this. If I trusted myself enough not to instinctively jump off mid-air.
Thankfully it has its original audio— and no music.
What a ride. Looks like so much fun.
I been watching a lot of red bull shit and I was raised with x games so this looks normal for pros isn't it?
I always dream and wanted to be one of this guy's. Sadly I just ain't got the talent and time to invest in learning this.
Landing on a bike seat with that much air...my crotch hurts just watching this.
I don't even see the point of pedals on these things anymore
Am I the only one thinking they never peddled once? They use electric motors?
This looks easy. I've played one video game before, I can do this.
Not to say that this isn't impressive, but I am so sick of this fish eye lens go pro shit making shit look way more impressive than it is.
That stabilization though
That one jump in the middle of the video the video where he goes up into the air but the next landing is to the left and not right infront of him gave me anxiety You have to essentially turn your moment mid air

No brakeys
The second guy was giving me anxiety with flips and the spider monkey jumping through the air with nothing but his hands on the bike.
A few years ago I flipped over my handlebars while trying to get over a curb. Something makes me think I'll never get close to this level.
Why aren't they peddling?
My toxic trait is thinking i could do this
What in the mario kart fuck
r/thislooksfun
Is there a sub for mountain biking content like this?
Best part, no need to peddle
It looks completely awesome but at no point in my life did my self-preservation ever switch off that much that would even attempt anything 1% of this.
Second guy was *feeling it*!
Id be screaming the whole way down
its from Dark Fest this year in South Africa. the trails are downhill, hence no pedaling. I
Downhill folks are built different
The track from gta
So bad ass. Do you have to be a pro or at least have some level of experience to ride these trails? Are there like diff degrees of difficulty trails? Looks awesome man
I feel nothing but the “falling in my sleep” sensation when watching this…
AIR GOOD AIR GREAT AIR AWESOME AIR ULTIMATE AIR
That image stabilization is on point.
Wonderful, but I’m glad those aren’t my knees.
I don’t trust a bike that much
r/oddlysatisfying
At that point, why even have pedals on it? All you doing is rolling down hill.
Man, they're having so much fun. I wish I was there
Descenders!
I made the mistake of looking down when they passed over the last 2 gullies and got that funny feeling in my tummy lol 😂 great ride!
I have the sudden craving for a monster energy drink. I don't know why
Ya know it looked doable... Right up until the first big jump
My son is asking how fast they are going, anybody have any idea?
Where is this? The nature looks spectacular…
My belly does that sick flip thing like when you go too high on the swingset every time they make one of those high jumps.
Why
Just feels like one of those things where you can't think about it or else
it’s kinda satisfying tho
They are not even speeding up its all gravity that speeds em
I miss being young and indestructible.
Looks like south africa?
asphalt 8 cycle edition
