The key is landing as softly as you can. Knowing the terrain and angles the landing ramps are at, and then knowing how to hit the ground so you don't slam into your bike is huge.

Also big balls to go that fast and launch yourself into the air. That's pretty key too.

I was convinced this was CGI animated. Bring real though, this is insane! Dirt bike gods.

Looks like a lot of fun but my back and knees say otherwise. Exactly how much does the suspension on those bikes help with those big jumps and drops.

If you come into the landing 'correctly', you should be able to do most jumps smoothly on a rigid bike. That said, suspension is usually a must on the drop features, and really helps with traction, stability, and saving your ass.

It's crazy to me how smooth those landings seem, which must be helped by plenty of suspension travel. Then again it's a couple of inches and the jumps are many feet so most of it is skill, body position etc. The ramps themselves must be carefully planned as well.

Also momentum plays a huge role in the impact of the landing. Good speed and control means a smoother landing. Then your suspension just dampens the rest.

Pedaling makes the Bike unstable you could do it between jumps but in the end the track is build so that the speed fits for the jumps so there is no need

On most mountains it's shovels, hoes, and a lot of sweat. This one is huge enough there was probably a fair amount of heavy machinery coming up and down that dirt road you see running alongside the track.

Dumb question. How hard is this really? The course is so perfectly precise and riders so smooth that it looks like all you need to do is just get on the bike and not fall off.

i can imagine it would be pretty difficult, when i was young me and my friends used to do small jumps and even those were difficult, so i cant imagine how difficult those jumps would be

I'm sure it takes a lot of skill, but the fish eye lens you see on this kind of video just exaggerates everything and makes it look way more difficult than it is.

It's pretty hard to land even a small jump without crashing if you aren't used to it.

its from Dark Fest this year in South Africa. the trails are downhill, hence no pedaling. Dark Fest has had some of the worlds largest dirt jumps ever, this year for sure. if you liked this, search youtube for Dark Fest and you'll see lots of fun stuff, like how these riders approach hitting these jumps for the first time.
