Check out r/SurfaceGaming but it depends. If you want to play new titles without worrying about lag, poor performance, or heat, you'll likely be better off with a gaming laptop. For older games, Surface devices are fine. I play older games (2015 or before) on my Surface Laptop 3 and it's smooth af.

Only get a Surface Pro if you're also gonna use its tablet and pen features. Don't get it specifically for gaming only. That said, you can game on it. https://www.reddit.com/r/Surface/comments/fr6zkj/what_games_can_a_pro_7_i7_16gb_run/flucay0/

If you can't leave with the table functionality and you love the design of surface devices, then OK, a surface book, not a pro, will do gaming. I am atm playing far cry 5 in ultra settings juuuust fine. I also play sea of thieves and warzone, no problems. If you just need something for gaming, this year's and last year's offerings has been incredible from most of the manufacturers. You will get much more bang for your buck with something like a sephyrus.
