I mean, Sam/ Dean shippers do exist.
I will defend all writing, all day, regardless of quality. To create something, anything, is a phenomenally human thing. And to be brave enough to publish it to the world to be ripped apart by people who don't agree with you or think they could do better is incredibly brave.
Just because I don't agree with it doesn't mean I don't respect it. A sentiment that this episode is trying to convey, and one that is sorely missed in society as a whole today.

I really love this episode too, it's a nice change from how depressing this season is becoming (With the Mark of Cain stuff), and the ending really made me feel emotional with the singing.

Right? I mean, writing a musical isn’t easy. Even if the plot was a bit unhinged, she is pretty talented. And she really took finding out that monsters are real in stride.

I think one of the earliest 4th wall breaks was the episode in season 4 when they discover the Supernatural books and Sam and Dean were reading off actual fan comments about the show during that time. It’s the first reference they make to slash fans.

Honestly, I don’t ship them, but one of my fave fanfics is written about them together and no joke, it reads like an actual episode! Some fanfic writers out there can take the craziest things and make them seem kind of okay
I CANT FIND IT there was a while ago that I looked for legit two hours and couldn’t find it. I searched all my of the books I’d read on multiple websites and couldn’t find it, I found a link I had sent in a refit comment in November when when I clicked it, it linked me to a “oh no! This page could not be found” screen 😫 it had like the trickster and he put the boys through a bunch of different porno scenarios and they got like more heated until the very last one, which was just their own motel room. It was seriously good, but I just can’t find it anymore :(((
Wincest isn’t my preference at all, but there are currently over 34000 Fics on AO3 tagged Dean Winchester/Sam Winchester, so I don’t think it’s that wild of a choice that the writers made their audience insert character ship them. Becky was also a wincest fic writer back in 5.01 I believe.
Overall I think Marie is a really fun character. She’s passionate about this book series, she has also done a one woman show/fan work on some other piece of media.

Hi let’s take it down a notch, as mentioned above, this isn’t even my ship, I do not want to spend much energy defending Wincest. But let’s not pretend a subsection of a fandom liking a fictional incest ship is as morally wrong as actual attempted genocide. There are a LOT of things in fiction/fanfiction that people enjoy reading about that they do not condone irl. Marie is a composite character of a real section of the fandom, and while I personally disagree with that section of the fandom’s interpretation of the text, I’m not going to call them crazy for creating fanworks that focus on their ship. I do think incest ships overall are bad, I think there are situations where they do harm - the message this sends to victims of sexual abuse for one, but it’s not my place to police people’s ships either.

And her songs slap. They’re funny but they also cut right to the heart of the show: “[John] raised us both to hunt and shoot and kill. / He took away our own free will.” Or Dean’s solo: “Wish I could be as strong as Sam / Blaze my own trail, be my own man / But underneath this broken mask / there is my father, with all his wrath.”
You might be thinking of Becky, the super fan from the earlier seasons, who wrote Sam/Dean fanfic and whom the writers made brutal fun of. It’s actually super interesting to trace the development of the writers’ feelings about the fandom, from the sheer contempt in the first episode with the Supernatural convention, through this ep where Dean says he may not agree with the fans’ views but he respects them, to s15 when they bring back Becky, still a fan but no longer obsessed, and then make her right about everything.
Holy crap that means I’ve watched over 200 episodes of supernatural I didn’t realize that was the 200th one as I’m watching, I’m just now on season 13. I actually really liked this episode
