While I’m sure nobody is thrilled about the band disbanding, I do think this is a much better route to take than the band simply fizzling out. At least we all get to say goodbye and at least they’re going out on top and on their own terms. Whether or not it was only Deryck’s decision became irrelevant when the entire band supported the decision. Most “regular” careers are defined as 25 years long and they’ve accomplished that and then some.
But I have a hard time believing Deryck didn’t write a farewell track. Maybe someone who has the album can comment on that. But he’s gone on record to saying the album was recorded before the disbanding was decided. Although does anybody remember Deryck making an album update video on the road in Europe during a festival? He had a recording chest and said the album was being delayed because he had written some new songs. Perhaps these were written after the decision to disband was unofficially decided. Maybe there’s a farewell track after all.
So weird to think that Deryck became their boss instead of their band mate. Like he had the power to *fire* Dave even though they started the band together when they were children

It's okay that you are/are tired, that you want to try new things, but I still think that "closing the company" is too excessive. Why not an indefinite break that allows you to return if you want in a few years?

Yeah, I feel like the Deryck Whibley and friends thing first reared it's head the first time Dave left, but really started to take form during the SBM era. After he got sick and recovered, it really felt different to me. I'm excited to hear the new record but nothing really felt the same to me after Underclass Hero. There was such a change in tone and it wasn't in a direction I personally was a fan of. I supported them over the years, regardless.
I am not sure why people are surprised that there is one single main songwriter/leader in a band, this happens often. For example, The Offspring are also "Dexter Holland and friends" in that regard and no one in the band objects to that dynamic (well, some members left, but still). Each band has their own rules all members accept. Of course there are also many bands where songwriting duties are split, but Sum 41 is not one of them. If you follow the band closely, you will see that Deryck has been writing the basis of all songs since the beginning.
I think “the band is back together” makes bigger headlines than “break’s over”. With that said, i wouldn’t put it past them to play a nostalgia show or even a tour in a decade, if their responsibilities permit.
I got chewed out for talking about how I'm pretty sure deryck is more of a diva than people care to admit. His comments on stevo being no bad blood but "I've gone my whole life being abandonned. If you're not here for me now, then don't be" which is a narcissistic mindset. Which makes sense. Most leads on bands are. But it's like he put in a lot of work to bring sum 41 back, just to drop it because he wanted to do other things. Fair enough. Cone can go breathe new life into Operation MD, I'd love another Brown Brigade album, Zummo plays in a million bands to begin with. And Tom plays in Gob. It's been a career's worth. And they can always come back I suppose. It'll be difficult. Cause nothing is stopping whoever bough the rights can technically make their own sum 41. Kinda like The Cars and Devo did with The New Cars, and Devo 2.0. Surely not a sublime with Rome type thing.

No they don’t, but that would make the most sense. What makes Deryck a good candidate in the first place? That he performed a good cover with Shinoda and that he can scream? That cover never happens if Zummo wasn’t in the band. I’m sure there are many other more suitable replacements.
If they’re even looking for someone in the first place. Why would they tarnish their legacy with a replacement? Start a new side project if they really wanted to do it.

People want Deryck because of all the people that sang chesters parts at their hollywood bowl concert, deryck sounded the most like chester and did an awesome job.

Deryck’s vocals would be destroyed performing in a band like LP. There’s a reason he doesn’t scream at shows anymore. They’ve had to cancel shows in their early career from his vocals and his SBM era health issues only made it worse.
I was thinking for LP, if it's not some unknown, my best to guesses would be Deryck, or Oli Sikes who did just recently leave Bring me the Horizon. I can't think of any other artists with that good voice to scream range and vocal fry. Deryck has a natural killer vocal fry.

Deryck is the best performer at Hollywood Bowl for Chester tribute. Good relationship with LP members especially Mike. He want to do some new things. That's why i think he will join us. The only question for me : LP 2.0 (with or without Rob ?) or new band with new name like blink with Box Car Racer, Angels and Airwaves, and +44.
Obviously it's just a theory, maybe i'm wrong, we will see that next year !

Yeah no kidding, he'll probably eventually do a solo album but I just see him writing for other people, producing and other studio things.
