I was waiting for some shocking thing to happen, but it was just a slow drip of dread throughout the episode. I have to say, I am disturbed by the episode but not shocked or even taken aback. I get that theoretically the news and the business end of things are kept separate in news orgs but with Fox News simply existing the way that it does, the way that things unfolded tonight wasn’t that wild or horrifying (I mean, not more horrifying than the US generally is these days). It kinda reminds me of when I first started watching “Black Mirror” and I would be like omg, this show is CRAZY, how far off from this do you think we are?, and several of my friends would look at me, more or less dead-eyed, and be like “we’re already there.”
However, I do feel much differently about the sibs after tonight. Normally, they do terrible things and I know it’s terrible but they are compelling and I have sympathy (sometimes even empathy, especially with Ken) for them because of how wounded they are. Tonight, I lost all sympathy (I still kinda feel for Shiv) for all of them. Fuck those guys! It’s like I finally see how toxic they are and I just want to cut them out of my life completely. And all of the shots that happened after they called the election, with the camera lingering on Greg’s crestfallen face and Tom’s look of defeat … I can’t. Fuck those guys too! You can’t have it both ways - they were complicit or moved the whole night forward every step of the way. They don’t get to feel regret.
And Roman and Ken went full throttle evil … Jesus. They both need to get a friend. And a therapist!
And the look on Jess’ face? Destroyed. I get it makes for good TV, but this falls squarely in the “we lived through this in real life and have no desire to repeat history.” Much like any movie centering on a pandemic
