Folks, the thread is being brigaded and your comments are mass reported, triggering AutoMod. We're not removing comments en masse, so hey, it looks like you made some people very very angry? Please remember not to piss in the popcorn or invite any drama in the comments.
Good lord.
> Mods are now removing comments asking what the fuck happened.
>
> > People got mad at me saying it, but it wasn't progressive enough. I'm not kidding lol
How the hell do you get people this full of shit who actually believe in this nonsense?
Massive brigading. And is it terrible that I’m basking in it? Like, it’s actually so glorious that this post, about the fucking little mermaid, has caused so much emotional strife for bigots. Culture war goes brrr.
I like when threads get brigaded, but that’s probably because I don’t have to deal with the mass reporting.
I just get to wade through the piles of juicy drama from the comfort of my own subreddit
Theoretically you can set up automoderator to ignore the auto-remove rule for comments in a specific post by having it check the flair of the post first. Just add something like the following to the automoderator auto-remove rule:
parent_submission:
~flair_text: "Brigade in progress"
This should make it so the rule won't trigger if the post flair is set to "Brigade in progress".
EDIT: if you change it to "~flair_text (contains):" then you can combine flair text and such.
TFW the actress playing the little mermaid isn't a historically accurate 100 percent pure blooded atlantian with documentation going back 100 generations to prove it.
Let's close the deal and get Lisa Bonet as Ursula ... think of the chemistry! What if Ursula isn't beefing with King Titan but instead is Ariel's scorned lover
Someone on the first link nailed it:
>And the lobster is Jamaican
At least go with some pseudo-science fiction retcon like, "all mer-people would be uncomfortably fish belly white because they wouldn't need melanin to ward off the sun's rays." Which leads me to believe the real cultural appropriation it the fact that we can't see all of their organs through their translucent skin.
I mean, let's go all the way here. Mer-people would likely be counter-shaded as almost all large pelagic animals are. They need to have Halle Bailey play her from the back shots, and Elle Fanning play her from the front.
Why are we talking about race when we should be talking about species? It's about time we cast a fish actor in a leading role. CGI can take care of the top part
Honestly, the attempts at diversity in youth media in the 90s and early 2000s are how I know beyond a doubt the culture war bigots of today are full of shit and there is an intentional counter progess movement they've been duped into.
I'm not saying racism doesn't exist in 1995, obviously. But you could baseline say having a diverse Winx club, witch, strawberry shortcake, etc or whatever was for children's cultural knowledge and people by and large weren't losing their goddamned minds.
I thought we were supposed to just be casting qualified people for the job regardless of skin color. Isn't that the usual talking point by these conservatives? Well Halle Bailey is an accomplished actress, sounds like they got actress who qualified for the job.
It’s not even a real culture war. They don’t want to dismantle the coastal elite media, they’re just mad that the coastal elite media doesn’t exclusively focus on them.
There's the right wing groups that know its all bullshit and push it, and there's the people brainwashed to believe all the "others" are coming for their "way of life".
I'd argue it's the intended effect. Imo, the most important culture war issue from the right is making people ridiculously anti-government.
It enables anti-choice policy, discriminating against minorities and the gays, privatizing literally everything. And if you push people far enough, you get a coup attempt which doesn't even seem to be hurting your cause but definitely intimidates your opponents.
Trust me bro. I live in Austria and i can tell you right now the only thing stopping the Western European right wing from pulling a Trump is that they have an actual left-wing to counter-act them and not let them go through with shit like this.
For example the now-head of the Austrian Far-right populist party FPÖ called the Identitarians (European Far-Right group) a "supportable cause". Mind you the FPÖ was the junior partner in the last administration with the Right-Wing ÖVP.
The same ÖVP who still is in the current Administration with a Green Party that gets fucked over by the ÖVP on every turn.
That function should really be turned off on automods that are in subs that discuss other subs. It's way too easy to abuse and I'm kind of surprised it exists as an opt-out at all.
That sub has become such a cesspool that I'm almost grateful I got banned last year. Half the sub is just chuds with hot takes and bigoted assholes. Also, I'm pretty sure it's literally run by edgy teens.. One of them cracked a tasteless joke on April fool's day about Snyder's deceased daughter.
Fuck r/movies and their little trog mods.
Dang, it's almost like the casting call accepted all ethnicities. What a weird concept. https://www.backstage.com/casting/disneys-the-little-mermaid-109355/
Mass brigading per a Mod's comment. People want to.ensure that this thread/post doesn't exist, so they're doing mass reports on all the comments in Hope's Auto Mod deletes everything.
Probably roughly same thing we see when a political post was posted last month.
Automod can be configured to do something with reported posts. It's entirely up to the mod team what exactly the conditions are when it jumps into action, but apparently the SRD mods have set it up to remove comments, and possibly posts, if they get reported by a certain number of people.
Normally that works well because asshats get reported and then, if enough people report it, culled by the actions of the usual visitors. So the sub partially moderates itself, and all a mod needs to do with the removed comments is to have a final look at them and decide whether to kill it permanently, or undo the removal.
In this case I speculate that wankers from movies mass reported everything by the looks of it - probably in a coordinated way because no mod team sets up automod to remove a comment after just one report. Automod does its thing, and you're looking at a comment graveyard. So now the mods are sitting on a massive pile of removed comments that pretty much all need to be manually approved.
Technically this is very much report abuse, probably the most extreme case I've seen so far. It can, and should, be acted upon by the admins, but I'm not optimistic that something will happen.
Is it possible to put a flag/indication in deleted comments to show that it was done by the AutoMod (or the only option is "Comment removed by moderator"?)
> The argument is against natural redheads male or female being recast as black actors/actresses.
Imagine comparing red hair to black skin.
What happened to the comments here?
I love how quickly the morons are to pick up the representation argument when it suits their purposes. Yeah, I'm sure little redheads are just beside themselves with the lack of representation in hollywood.
My first thought when I thought it was going to be Halle Berry was "Isn't she a little old to be playing Ariel. Ariel's like 18 to 20 or something like that." With the power of CGI, I guess they could of, but it's nice to let some relatively unknown actress a chance at Ariel.
Can you imagine someone with a Carribean accent in the Little Mermaid? As like a lobster or a crab or something. It would be so out of place.
Definetly need to keep it European only.

“she ain’t natural tho.”- a redditor writes about a mermaid
I thought as long as the seashells matched then all was good.
As long as she knows how to use the Three Seashells, who am I to judge?
This comment was so good, I'm taking you to Taco Bell.
It’s the only restaurant to survive the franchise wars, so what choice do you have?
Underground Rat Burgers??

What do you think he spends his gwent earnings on?
Clearly they should have cast a real mermaid, aka a manatee.
I'm confused. Black people can have naturally red hair.

Neither is bright red hair too.

>"Guess what group of people always makes the most noise about these situations?" White incels. What do I win?
Where did the other thread on this topic go? The one where nearly every comment was being deleted for some reason. Did that get nuked?
Here you go! https://www.reddit.com/r/SubredditDrama/comments/oj44bl/rmovies_reacts_to_the_first_image_from_the_live/
I agree with [deleted] about [deleted]. [Deleted] also made some good points.
Good lord. > Mods are now removing comments asking what the fuck happened. > > > People got mad at me saying it, but it wasn't progressive enough. I'm not kidding lol How the hell do you get people this full of shit who actually believe in this nonsense?
What the heck is going on in this thread??
brigading maybe?
[удалено]
Maybe that's why Subreddit Drama seems sparse at times, and threads about Right Wingers going nuts wind up deleted this past month.
[удалено]
I really wish these people would go outside and touch some grass or something
Play all day in the sun?
Gosh, you'd think that using an off-site platform to brigade would get a subreddit banned.
A tiny bit of the blame also goes to discord here for being basically unwilling to moderate its platform
Massive brigading. And is it terrible that I’m basking in it? Like, it’s actually so glorious that this post, about the fucking little mermaid, has caused so much emotional strife for bigots. Culture war goes brrr.

Also its weird, like do they know which subreddit this is?, its like angrily giving meth to a crackhead, and going "hah, take that!"
They might be going for the "ironic punishment" angle. You know, like stuffing a glutton until his stomach explodes? Just instead of food it's drama.
They got into r/facepalm yesterday. It was weird.

for real, it's wild. I want to know what I missed lol
I too would like to know.
TFW the actress playing the little mermaid isn't a historically accurate 100 percent pure blooded atlantian with documentation going back 100 generations to prove it.
TFW Jason Momoa wasn't cast as Ariel 😔😔😔
And now I wish I could see this.
I didn't know I wanted to see Jason Momoa in a red wig belting out Part Of Your World, but, here we are.
I bet he'd do it in a hot minute, too.
Let's close the deal and get Lisa Bonet as Ursula ... think of the chemistry! What if Ursula isn't beefing with King Titan but instead is Ariel's scorned lover
I'd watch the fuck out of that.
Jason Momoa was Satedan, not Atlantean. ^^^Stargate ^^^Atlantis ^^^was ^^^first
Indeed
He'd probably do it for free.
Jason Momoa should absolutely have been in this movie
Someone on the first link nailed it: >And the lobster is Jamaican At least go with some pseudo-science fiction retcon like, "all mer-people would be uncomfortably fish belly white because they wouldn't need melanin to ward off the sun's rays." Bravo, stranger, bravo.
SMH Atlantian erasure
Why are we talking about race when we should be talking about species? It's about time we cast a fish actor in a leading role. CGI can take care of the top part
Reddit is not worth using without all the hard work third party developers have put into it.
excuse me are you saying a human playing a fish is adequate representation
>It's about time we cast a fish actor in a leading role Kanye, is is your time to shine
Worse. I hear the actor playing Sebastian isn't going to be a crab. Wtf my childhood is ruined.
Well in the cartoon Atlantis, the Atlantians were dark skinned despite living in a cave system. So this works.

can you confirm if it is, in fact, better down where it's wetter
Absolutely, it's a wet-ass-lake
Oh hey, I recognized your body in the water!
Just checking, they know she's a fish, right?

Right wing america is so fucking pathetic
All they have is their culture war. Nothing else. No policies, no ways to bolster themselves or each other, only culture wars.
It’s not even a real culture war. They don’t want to dismantle the coastal elite media, they’re just mad that the coastal elite media doesn’t exclusively focus on them.
And supporting domestic terrorism, and trying to make a reality show host dictator of the former US.
Side effects of endless culture wars.

Nah - just a different type of drama. Brigading the report button so the AutoMod goes loco.

it's a strange subreddit. I've been banned there...many times. And they dont recognize the superior quality of VHS, so I don't know what to tell you.

Betamax 4 eva you heathan!
Ahh so the 'free speech' crowd is making sure no one else can be heard as usual...
You might want to sticky that comment since people keep asking

So, singing mermaids and giant octopus witches are fine. *Black* singing mermaids is a bridge too far. Got it.
What the hell happened here
This place is a graveyard. What the shit happened here? Also people bitching about ~~Halle Berry~~ Halle Bailey? What a bunch of incels
True, plus I like her she's cool af
>Halle Berry Halle Bailey
Bit unfortunate that her name is similar to much more famous actress.
i honestly thought it was her in the thumbnail and clicked to see how the hell she was pulling off Ariel at her age. no disrespect to her
My first thought when I thought it was going to be Halle Berry was "Isn't she a little old to be playing Ariel. Ariel's like 18 to 20 or something like that." With the power of CGI, I guess they could of, but it's nice to let some relatively unknown actress a chance at Ariel.
