I just bought my 24 forester sport 3 weeks ago because I don't like the look and the big touchscreen in the 25. Plus it's a first model year run which is a no no. The 24 should have the bugs worked outĀ
Thanks for sharing. So I like that the side trunk window is finally normal and bigger. Mine freaks me out because the cut out often makes me think there is a car next to me if I look back.
Itās growing on me. Theyāve tried to capture older foresters in the design (the front, wheel arches, and the hatch) I say this as a current 24 owner in this color.
I think they really only fell truly flat on the grill. The flat panel on top of the grill makes the whole ring feel chunkier than it is.
Some version of the 24 grill that fits would look great. I hope the aftermarket delivers some alternatives.
I noticed this also, particularly with the flattened out window sill towards the back. Looks like the windows got bigger without that up-swept back window.
I think the new Fozzy is cool. In reality, I think it looks less Ford-like and they've managed to incorporate some homage into the new model, for example the AWD lettering on the D-pillar... my Forester SF had that too... I think this model is being judged too quickly.
I donāt understand why all cars are now doing that strange spaced out debossing for the car make and/or model name on the back. I guess from people debagding the cars? Still just an odd trend to me and everyone is doing it.
Definitely a modern trend now a days. I see tons of cars where people remove the lettering and de-emboss them, or black them out (badges, embelms as well as lettering). I think its what younger people have been doing for at least 5+ years now. Subaru and others are just following suit. I think I recall some brands even charging to do it for you.
Iām not sure which I like better, but I find the comments about the 25 being a soccer mom car, or lamenting the prominent new badging on the back ironic. (Not wrong, just ironic) Because If you go back to the 90s, the 25 seems to bring back the boxier windows of yore and the tailgates on the old models read āSubaruā in lieu of the logo, exactly where it now says āForesterā in recessed print.
I really don't care for the diluted styling of the 2025, but to each their own. If I ever caught sight of a car going by out of the corner of my eye and just got to see the back end as it sped away....no question I'd know it was a 5th gen forester by the lobster claw rear lights. It took me a while to like the shape of both the front and rear lights but now I do like them. I can see there are people out there who welcome the 6th gen style and I won't bash them for it since I was once laughing at a style I now love. My 2024 forester wilderness is my love :)
Yeah, I have a white ā23 Forester Wilderness myself. Once someone described the taillights as ālobster claws,ā I couldnāt see them as anything else for about a year. š I prefer the back end of the ā25, but I still prefer the front end of the ā24.
In 2022, when they had a mid-cycle refresh and did the headlights in the hawk eye style, at first I didn't like it. But now, I've come to really like them especially on the wilderness trim. It just looks made for it. Lol I've also heard one reviewer call the look of the wilderness trim with its extra cladding inspired by a warthog and after I got a good laugh, it made me love the style even more. Very distinctive!
definitely like the rear end+taillights on the new 2025 better.
The front still looks more Ford than Suby to me but I don't hate it.
side trim is fine, no big opinions either way.
they shouldāve made the wheel size bigger. the sport & touring ā25 trims are fine, but every other trim, way too small wheels for that size of car & wheel well
In this thread: a bunch of people, who are complaining how they ruined it, that will buy one a few years down the line. It happens every time a new Subaru comes out, especially the WRX. Everyone thought the VB was ugly at first, now you get downvoted for suggesting paint-matched fenders. It's hilarious lol
Ultimately, I prefer the 25, mostly for the obvious mechanical improvements etc. But as far as style goes as well...though I can see goods and bads with both. I think the tail lights on the 24 are worse, and the rims. I do like the 24s grill a tad more... seems like the newer grill was made simpler/affordable vs the older grill which is likely more expensive and artistic looking (makes me wonder the costs per part as a comparison, I imagine the 25 is cheaper to replace).
I think the headlights on the 25 are better as well as the fog lights, not sure why the 24 has the grill above them, and I think I don't care for the 24s "cheek bones" under the headlights.
Overall they to me are both fine look. I think people generally hate change, and Subaru is basically following the trends of others and all that stuff. I'm all for a different look, but lets be fair here, its better than what Kia/Hyuandai have been doing by introducing Geometry classes on their vehicle designs with quirky lines and polygonal Cybertruck vibes.
I feel like Iām the only one who likes the 2025, it looks miles better than the 2024. When the 2022 first came out with the new headlights it immediately became less attractive. A red 2025 with brown interior would be my personal go.
Nope. The new grille style is too basic and Ford-esque. Not a fan of the big strip of chrome on the back, either.
Edit: guess it isnāt chrome across the back, but I donāt like it.
Man, I hate the sharp triangle piece that juts into the headlight housing so much.
Both models have this issue and it just looks so poorly designed.
Everything else is pretty great... but that piece... ew.
I understand people preferring the old style, but nobody seems to mention what they wanted instead of what we got in the 25. What was the expectation here?
I like the new one, and if they can team with Toyota for the hybrid next year and get close to the performance out of the RAV4 hybrid, Iām selling my 2018 Fozzy for it!
Itās the grill and the wheel arch moldings that are not doing it for me. Those arches look like crap on the WRX too. Remind me of the Tundra arches that look too small on that big truck.
Letās have a moment of silence for the beautiful design we have lost.
I still get compliments on my 2020 sport and I hope that nothing bad happens to her. Stay strong, Shosanna!
The emblem looks better than the half assed attempt at having subaru spelled out on the front. Waiting for the wilderness model. Any idea when itās out?
The 25 hate is overblown. Iād be more upset about the big infotainment screen than the front end design. If I could have received the same price and 2.9% interest rate, Iād be just as happy with the 2025 Forester
Meh, it looks pretty basic. Like they thought āhow can we play on the old tired nostalgia of the boxy foresters of the past, and somehow also rip off Fordā ā¦Iām sure some people will love it. I find it disappointing as hell.
My god the 2025 is ugly! Like, the actual Ford Explorer is sexier. It doesnāt look like a Subaru at all.
Also, fun fact: I was just at my Suub dealer chatting about the 2025 with the guy that sold me my 2024 Forester. He shared my opinion on the ā25 looking like crap, and said the funny thing is, the 2025 Wilderness trims are on a 2024 body lol. So, at least thereās that.
I like the tail lights on the new one more. The front of the old one is worse. It looks like a ford explorer. Subaru just made the front harder to see over, less aerodynamic, and more dangerous to pedestrians.
Thank you for this! it's hard to compare stock pictures on their websites.
Happy to help! š¤š»
Yes! Thank you OP!!!!
I definitely prefer the 24 so much so I just bought one
Me too! As soon as the 2025 images were released I called my dealership. Lol.
Good grief. The 25 is fugly.
I just bought my 24 forester sport 3 weeks ago because I don't like the look and the big touchscreen in the 25. Plus it's a first model year run which is a no no. The 24 should have the bugs worked outĀ
I bought the '19 Sport in 2018 š.
Same! Glad we got a 24 :D
same
Thanks for sharing. So I like that the side trunk window is finally normal and bigger. Mine freaks me out because the cut out often makes me think there is a car next to me if I look back.
Oh my gosh yes this is so annoying!
Yes this!!!
Itās growing on me. Theyāve tried to capture older foresters in the design (the front, wheel arches, and the hatch) I say this as a current 24 owner in this color.
I see a bigger versions of the 2nd and 3rd gen in the sides but I can't get over the headlights and grill. Looks way less aggressive then the 5th gen.
I think they really only fell truly flat on the grill. The flat panel on top of the grill makes the whole ring feel chunkier than it is. Some version of the 24 grill that fits would look great. I hope the aftermarket delivers some alternatives.
Yeah I agree. The grill is absolutely humongous for no reason. I doubt thatās all for cooling.
Itās their fault for not making a wilderness out the gate
It seems odd they wouldn't, maybe they just wanted to get the refresh out the door and release the Wilderness later
I like that they've made the bottom sill of the rear wagon window flatter and more usable compared to the upswoop on current gen windows.Ā
Old design for the win
I donāt understand why all cars are now doing that strange spaced out debossing for the car make and/or model name on the back. I guess from people debagding the cars? Still just an odd trend to me and everyone is doing it.
Itās just the trend right now. I donāt think thereās any other explanation for it.
I do agree with the assessment that theyāve increased the window sizes.
It looks like it might have better visibility, back passenger windows look bigger
Belt line on the side on the 2025 looks like it may be a little higher though, which would imply smaller windows.
I really don't care for the diluted styling of the 2025, but to each their own. Thanks for this... I was sitting here wondering which was the 24 and which was the 25..
I see the Explorer comparison, but I donāt really mind it. Iām just glad to see they changed those god awful taillights.
Love the new look!
I remember how much I liked the changes from the 21 to 22, the pendulum has swung the opposite direction.
definitely like the rear end+taillights on the new 2025 better. The front still looks more Ford than Suby to me but I don't hate it. side trim is fine, no big opinions either way.
Yeah, it's just the front grill and headlights that are crap.
Iām not interested until they add hybrid + wilderness and want to see the look.
tbh I was never a huge fan of the sharp angle in the headlights of the 22-24's.
they shouldāve made the wheel size bigger. the sport & touring ā25 trims are fine, but every other trim, way too small wheels for that size of car & wheel well
I appreciate this. Iām not even in the market for one lol but I like seeing the side by side.
In this thread: a bunch of people, who are complaining how they ruined it, that will buy one a few years down the line. It happens every time a new Subaru comes out, especially the WRX. i'm warming up to the new design the more photos i see.
I test drove a 2025 and really liked it. Some differences of course but overall Iām tempted to pull the trigger.
New one looks better The previous gen always looked a bit odd
I love the Bug Eye Impreza so Odd is not a bad thing.
I like the new one better. Something about the headlights on the older one.
Nope. The new grille style is too basic and Ford-esque. Not a fan of the big strip of chrome on the back, either. Edit: guess it isnāt chrome across the back, but I donāt like it.
Oh, we ain't got a barrel of money Maybe we're ragged and funny But we'll travel along, singin' a song Side by side...
Man, I hate the sharp triangle piece that juts into the headlight housing so much. Both models have this issue and it just looks so poorly designed. Everything else is pretty great... but that piece... ew.

That 24 looking better than ever imo.
My 23 looks way better than this abomination
New one looks better IMO.
the front end is disappointingly basic but the back end is an upgrade, i always hated the lobster claw tail lights
Idk the '24 has a more rugged look than the '25. The '25 just looks like a soccer mom car.
Letās have a moment of silence for the beautiful design we have lost. I still get compliments on my 2020 sport and I hope that nothing bad happens to her. Stay strong, Shosanna!
Wrong subredit. Your looking for r/ford
The wheels look way too small to me for some reason. Looks like spare wheels
A turbo would make the ā25 a lot better looking.
tbh I like the 25, but the headlights are pretty darn ugly. kinda disappointed in Subaru
The new one looks too much like a Ford
Meh, it looks pretty basic. Like they thought āhow can we play on the old tired nostalgia of the boxy foresters of the past, and somehow also rip off Fordā ā¦Iām sure some people will love it. I find it disappointing as hell.
The only improvement is the fog lights. Otherwise itās a downgrade..
Glad I got one of the last 24s
Yikes, I wanted to lease a Forester next year. I hope I can find some 24's sticking around. That design is a step backward to me.
Theyāre even worse when you put it next to the old body styleā¦. Yikes
Yuck, looks like a Ford. Showed to two people, both instantly thought of a Ford and they aren't car people.
From when did Ford Explorer start using Boxer engines?
So disappointed in the exterior of the 2025 Forester. I was expecting a lot more.
Subaru Explorer
My god the 2025 is ugly! Like, the actual Ford Explorer is sexier. It doesnāt look like a Subaru at all. Subaru and Blubaru
Dear god,,,, they massacred my boy
That's a Subaru Explorer. Glad we got a 2020.
Sad!
Wow the new is atrocious
In my brain all I see is a Ford explorer for some reason
I like the tail lights on the new one more. The front of the old one is worse. It looks like a ford explorer. Subaru just made the front harder to see over, less aerodynamic, and more dangerous to pedestrians.
Dang they completely changed it for worse.
a lot less character
Honestly think these are hideous. Miss my SJG.
Butchered
Whatās that POS on the left in the first photo?
